App good, not so much on provider

Amwell was fine, but the provider I got Amwell chose because I wanted to see the soonest doctor available. The doctor was kind of not the friendliest of people but I guess that’s ok, I don’t know what kind of day he was having. He had an accent and that was kind of hard for me to understand but maybe my American accent was hard for him to understand too. Anyway, I listed in Amwell I am allergic to penicillin. During the video chat he also asked me my allergies and I stated penicillin. He ended up prescribing me augmentin. When I called the pharmacy to see if they received the script she said yes but asked me if I told him my allergy. I said yes and she said well you can’t take augmentin, it’s a form of penicillin. She knew that but I wondered why he didn’t? There was no way for her to call him back so I had to contact Amwells customer service. About 4 hours later, after my pharmacy closed, an this app rep told me they could t get ahold of the doctor and offered for me to see him again for free or see another provider for free. Initially I chose another provider but later decided to email them and just ask them for a refund instead. I’m new to this tell doctor thing and it just kind of worried me to not know if what one of their providers are prescribing me is okay for me to take or not. The this app customer service reps were great though.

Dr. Gray

My Dr. was very nice and professional. Because of the photos I took he was able to diagnose my pink eye in 5 minutes. He was quick and to the point, I really liked him. This service is awesome for issues like Pink Eye, because it made it possible for me to be seen by a Physician, without having to risk the Dr’s. Office during the Coronavirus outbreak. I would recommend this service for a number of conditions that are fairly minor, or even to do a coronavirus screening. However, if I was having any serious symptoms I would just go to the ER, less serious but bad enough-Instacare. Pink Eye is very contagious, and like coronavirus, it isn’t something I want to spread. I hope this type of service grows in order to eliminate the need for going to the Dr’s office, especially when you you aren’t very contagious. Pink Eye has made me feel self conscious, it hurts, and I don’t want to keep my eyes open. I think this is a great way to get screened for covid-19 also, cutting down the unnecessary spread so we can all be more safe.

Such a great experience

This makes such a difference to me! I used to put off having to go to the doctors for infections because of the hassle it was and during a time when I wasn’t feeling well to begin with. this app was so easy to use, so fast, and the experience with the doctor was great. The doctor asked all of the right questions to make sure everything was covered and was easily able to gauge my own familiarity with my condition (something I’ve dealt with chronically) and addressed me in the most fitting manner. There have been countless times in the past I’d suffered through having an infection until it became so bad I needed immediate treatment, all because I wanted to avoid having to go into a doctors office, take 2 hours to be seen for 5 minutes, then give a lab specimen, all so I could get the antibiotic I already knew I needed. Thank goodness for this app. This service truly makes a difference in our population’s overall health and well-being.

Not Great

Both times I’ve used Amwell I’ve had issues. The first time I signed up for a visit with a doctor and waited an hour to never receive a call. I called customer service and they said that the doctor must have logged off for the day or there was an error. The second doctor I got assigned to was very nice and helpful but it took over 2 hours for that to happen when it should have been 10 minutes or less according to the wait time I was originally given. The second time I used Amwell I signed up for a visit and was only on the phone for 30-60 seconds with the doctor because they advised they couldn’t treat me for the same issues if it was more than once in less than 6 months. Why was I not advised this when signing up for the visit when I specifically put the same issue I had been seen for through Amwell previously? So I get charged the visit fee for no service provided to me? I requested a refund through customer service and they said it may take a few days but also said if you don’t hear back in like a month contact us again. So it’s not sounding promising.

A True God-Send!!

Having this service is a true God-Send for me!! I have been in and out of therapy for years now. In because I needed it and out when I could no longer afford it. When my insurance told me about their partnership with this app for Behavioral Health after an attempted suicide, I was more than willing to try it. I have no co-pays or limits! I am so thankful!! Plus the convenience of not having to take the time to drive to an office, wait, hit just the highlights to try to get the most out of my visits before I couldn’t afford it anymore and hope for the best. For the first time, I am getting deep into things and getting to the deep core of things and not fearing if I will have the money for next week. I am really getting the therapy I need and have needed most of my life. The problem with the mental health crisis is affordability of therapists, Doctors and meds. Thank you this app for doing your part in making me whole!!

Amazing! Changing the way we deal with health issues!!

Through my provider US healthcare and my company Amex - copay was not bad and got a dr to “see” me over Amwell /video in minutes. I was super impressed, the DR was very knowledgeable and asked all the right questions to get my sinusitis diagnosis. They sent the prescription to my pharmacy right through the system and I picked it up 15 mins later. Amazing vs. going through all the hoopla of making an appointment, waiting for availability, driving to the DR office, filling out paperwork I’ve filled out 6 times before (at that very same office), waiting in the waiting lobby, then waiting in the actual waiting room, and then driving to the pharmacy and waiting there for 20 mins, then driving back home.
I will sooo pay the copay for this from now on!! Thank you this app for this service you’ve just made being sick a little less miserable!

1 no show, 2 cancellations, unacceptable

Let’s pretend you’re in need of professional help but can’t get to see a same day doctor. That’s my situation, no thanks to this lousy experience trying to secure an appointment on this app. Amwell earns 3 strikes. I deducted 3 stars, assuming everything would have gone excellent had it worked. this app offers no explanation or specifics to me on why the 2cancellations or 1 no show. They just give a customer service number to reschedule. Perhaps it was unfortunate timing and luck but that shouldn’t matter. When this app offers a professional patient care service, three chances is enough to judge it by.

My first doctor wasn’t online (or didn’t pay attention) and I waited 30 minutes before logging off with no consult. The next appointment cancelled the morning of, which at least allowed me time to find another slot for the same day. 10 mins before my third appointment I received a cancellation alert.

This is akin to a Skype consultation and I can guess it would be ideal you need a care ASAP. Don’t get your hopes up, though. Any patient would get discouraged after three failed attempts to get help. Not a good start!

Middle of the night savior

There is nothing fun about waking up in the middle of the night due to a severe toothache. I wasn’t going to be able to see my dentist till the next evening due to availability and I knew they were going to prescribe antibiotics for the infection. In my town you have the choice of going to your PC or DDS, the urgent care which is not 24 hours or the 1 star rated hospital. Thanks to this app and my wonderful visit with the Dr., I was able to get the medication I needed NOW instead of 18 hours later. Sure, the price may not have been covered fully by my Ins, but it was still a massive savings over urgent care and of course the ER. The doctor understood right away the pain I was in and wasted no time getting to business. I cannot thank this app enough. I just wish more insurances covered visits like this.

Updated: excellent customer service

Before I used Amwell I went looking for a review like this, but didn’t really find one. So I’ll specifically mention that this is not a service for help with migraines. They will just say, I can’t help you on this platform, you need to see a neurologist. I’m trying to get them to give me at least a partial refund, since I didn’t receive any service at all, but I’m not terribly optimistic. I’ll update my review if they do offer a refund of some type.

* update * I explained my issue and they’ve offered a full refund. This is generous, since I did spend time talking to the doctor. I was hoping for a partial refund. I’ll definitely use this service in the future, for other issues.

Better than Dr On Demand

Never write reviews, but I waited 40 minutes to be seen by Dr On Demand, I couldn’t quite hear them, and with probably 5 seconds that doctor disconnected. Maybe Amwell is less viral/well known at this point, so the wait time was less, but I was signed up, insurance info entered, and on a video chat with a doctor in the this app app within five minutes. Call quality clear, doctor was friendly (nurse practitioner) and understanding. Just needed an inhaler refilled, I don’t much like doctors and the whole health care never ending circle (meaning I don’t have a primary care physician), and the doc I talked to here was understanding, didn’t give me a hard time, simply wrote a prescription for my inhaler and gave me an extra refill when I asked. 5 stars all around.

Could be better

Jaime Martinez was the last Dr I saw and I don’t recommend him. He acted annoyed or bored during our visit and talked to me like I was clueless. I knew my daughter had an ear infection and have an otoscope I can use to check. I told him her ear was bright red inside but instead of asking me about her eardrum he asked me what her “tempranic membrane” looked like. I didn’t know that was the medical term for eardrum so I was confused about what he was asking and he basically dismissed what I said I had seen. I don’t feel like he made any effort to communicate effectively with me as a patient/layperson, he was not overly friendly or personable. Also, during our visit he appeared to be sitting in front of a window and I could see someone walk past during our appt. Not sure that’s following confidentiality requirements for working from home in the medical field.

Tried all day to get an appt

Yes I know things are not normal with COVID-19. But I have literally been trying for 8 solid hours to get a visit. First selected the “call me” option. Three hours later I got a call that said “the provider declined your appt” and transferred me to customer service. I waited a few minutes and hung up. Tried again and Amwell randomly kicked me out at one point. No clue what happened but I was 7th in line and then I was out. Went back again, waited another two hours and was down to 5th in line and suddenly it hung there for over 1/2 an hour. Amwell is not well designed. It apparently puts you in line with a specific provider instead of just giving you first available. If that provider goes on break or leaves apparently you are out of luck?? Also you have to keep Amwell open which is incredibly annoying. Probably fine with low wait times if it’s a few minutes but definitely not when you are waiting for hours. So. Frustrating.

Very Impressed!

Just used this app for the 1st time (had never even heard of it until I was checking my insurance benefits online & saw that I only have a $15 copay for telemedicine & was connected to this app)...great experience! Easy to get started, cheap, & Dr. Emily Clagg was very nice & helpful! I had cold symptoms for almost 2 weeks recently & was clearing up, but started having a pretty rough, intermittent, chesty cough a few days ago. My doctor didn’t have any openings & they don’t take walk-ins, so I decided to give this a try versus paying $75 for an urgent care visit. Dr. Clagg had me give her a deep cough, & she immediately said she was leaning toward bronchitis (which I’d suspected), & sent Rx’s for a steroid, Mucinex, & antibiotics if I develop a fever to the pharmacy of my choice. I will DEFINITELY use this app again!

So thankful for this app!

I’ve had Amwell downloaded for about a year, but haven’t had to use it. I’ve been so sick the last couple days. My doctor has been dodging my calls and I really didn’t want to go to the ER (it wasn’t an emergency, I’m just sick) I decided to give this a try and I’m so glad I did! I saw Dr. Lim and she was seriously the SWEETEST woman ever. She listened to me, asked me questions and was very thorough. Made me feel extremely comfortable and like I’ve known her my whole life. She’s wonderful and I know if I need to use this again, I’ll be looking for her, haha. I definitely suggest Amwell, especially if you can’t get into your doctor and don’t want to go to the ER (if it’s non-emergency*) 5/5 stars!

The answer to a busy lifestyle!

I am one of those people who puts off going to the doctor because it’s not convenient to me unless it was urgent. Not to mention I’ve never had a primary doctor so the thought of going to see a stranger and have to give them my entire health history for every ailment is annoying. If you share some of these feelings then Amwell is the answer. I’ve used it several times and every doctor I’ve talked or video called with has been nothing short of professional, friendly and fast. Not to mention has saved me hundreds if not thousands in costs related to urgent care or emergency room visits. So worth the time and money. Best invention in my opinion.

Convenient but...

I was away from home and miserable with a cold that had gone into my ears. I knew that if I went to urgent care the visit would be $100 and they’d just tell me to wait it out because it wasn’t infected yet. As I thought the Dr. I spoke with here said just that and didn’t prescribe an anti biotic. but was able to call in a steroid and only cost me $40 for the visit. My own Doc. Costs me $150 a visit so I don’t even go there. I rated Amwell a 4 because there are 2 things I don’t like. One the dr had a slight accent that was a tiny bit hard to understand and two I wish they checked back in 3 days to see if symptoms have lessened or there was a way to ask the dr. A question that I missed when I was on the phone with her. Otherwise is has been a good option for my budget.

Dr. Cornell explains to you in English terms so you understand.

This was the first time using this service. From the time they answered. Rachel was very nice, patient and was able to calm me bf even speaking with the doctor. I understand his oath. He wasn’t able to help me with my prescriptions. It’s rough. My doctor left the practice and left me without my meds. It’s mind blowing to me. I’m bipolar, PTSD, Agoraphobia, depression, anxiety. I’ve been on them since 2005. It tells you not to stop them any of them without winging yourself off. Yet these Doctors do what they want. We need a change. I’m not talking about this this app. I’m speaking of our doctors we go to they know us. Unexceptionable.

App worked well, visit went well, UI issue

I was able to see a doctor fairly quickly. The doctor had reviewed the information and pictures I submitted. She asked key questions, did a great job of listening and did not finish the session until she was sure all of my questions were answered. I was satisfied with her diagnosis, suggested treatment and plan if things did not get better.

Only issue was with the UI as I was entering all the address info, etc. (iPad 2017). The keyboard would cover buttons and checkboxes and you could not scroll to them. (You have to collapse the keyboard to get to these things - not terribly intuitive and could cause some to bail on Amwell .)

Working Mom

I just used Amwell for the first time and it was LIFE-CHANGING! Less than 5 minutes for something I would have had to take off of work for, drive across town, wait at the Doctor’s office, see the Doctor, go to a pharmacy, wait some more... (you get the picture). Sign me up! Where has Amwell been my whole life?! Doctor was super nice and knew exactly what I was needing. I thought it would be weird, but it wasn’t. SO EASY. I even enjoyed it from the comfort of my bed, at 10:30 at night. Dr. sent in my rx and I will pick up tomorrow morning (without having to take off work). Mommas KNOW how precious sick leave is when you have little ones!! I say WINNING. Thank you this app :)

won't let me message my therapist

I've contacted customer service 3 times & they have not emailed me an answer or solution to message my therapist directly through this app. The 1st reply did not seem like they even read my question - they only emailed me how to start my appt with her when we met.
I emailed again to ask HOW to message my therapist b/c I can't find her by search to get more options.
The profile that pops up when I click on our appt time only gives me the option to cancel, but there is no way to message her directly.
I'm very disappointed with them not reading my actual question & providing a solution!
I also dislike that it isn't tailored to only therapists that accept my insurance! I almost booked an appt with a therapist that didn't accept my insurance. Luckily, I could cancel up to the last minute without having to pay a fee of any kind.

UC Davis is the best

I started using UC DAVIS online health to speak with a Doctor when I had no insurance and couldn’t afford to see Walk-In clinic or the ER. The Walk-In clinics always have a super long wait times as well. The Docs were super friendly and it was only 35$ at the time to speak with them. With the new app it’s 69$ but still cheaper than anything else and I don’t have to leave my house.
Fast forward I moved out of California and down to AZ downloaded Amwell and within 30 mins I had a Doc on the phone with FaceTime and she was super helpful and friendly and I was done in 10 mins. I live out in the sticks now so not having to go sit in a waiting room for 2 hours was so nice.

For your typical sinus infection/ cold and other simple things this is the best way to go.

Best way to see the doctor 24/7

I almost never write reviews but this was such a great experience! Dr Charles Wallace was polite, asked relevant questions and completed my visit quick without making me feel rushed. I waited maybe 10 mins to video chat with him which is less time than it would take me to drive to urgent care! I would recommend this to anyone with a mild medical need and avoid the long waits and often rude office staff at a regular dr office, urgent care or emergency room. It cost me $69 because I have a high deductible health plan. Going to urgent care is around $80-$100 for me. Worth every penny! I got to see a doctor at midnight from the comfort of my own couch!!!! Fantastic!!!

Traveling for work

I woke up Sunday morning with a cough that had gotten even worse than it had been the last few days. My dad is getting surgery this week, so on top of leaving town for work I was concerned about walking into his recovery room with something contagious. The doctor I saw was understanding and nice. He asked a lot of questions about how I am feeling now and how I have been feeling. Basically, he determined it is likely viral - which is contagious but will likely only last for another few days. He also told me what to look for in the event that it wasn't viral and I could use a prescription. The visit was great and certainly put me at ease!

Mother of Special Needs Twins

THANK YOU SOOO VERY MUCH for putting together QUALITY SERVICE and AVAILABILITY for those of us who are caring for the rest of our family and cannot just get up and go to an Urgent Care Clinic whenever we are in need but we know things are going to get worse if we don’t get professional help! This whole app, service and process just has been a lifesaver and makes me feel like I can still take care of me too! You really have a great app, great doctors and a greater understanding for an experience I’d rather have from home to pharmacy and back skipping the clinic all together forever!!! Thank you again and again! Can I say: THANK YOU📣📣📣
