We Investigate the app owner's website (Compasscoffee.com), verify their legitimacy, and uncover hidden scams and complaints.
1. Need to be able to remove or update payment methods. App keeps re-loading from an old payment method I can’t remove.
2. App should verify store location before submitting order.
3. Users should be able to store favorite orders for quick re-order.
I can’t cancel an order and it doesn’t confirm my location before I finalize the order. CompassCoffee has terrible customer experience. I can’t even contact someone to get help with cancellation.
CompassCoffee is a scam and I am honestly curious how it does not violate Apple’s TOS. The minimum amount you can add to your account is $25. If you have less money left in CompassCoffee than your order you cannot use it. You cannot add custom amounts. And you cannot spend the money in your app in store. So it just stays locked in your app, totally useless. Maybe it is time for a class action lawsuit this cannot be legal.
Can only load money in $25 increments. If you have a balance for less than the cost of your purchase the only way to use it is by adding an additional $25. You can essentially never use your full balance because you typically end up with like $4 remaining, which doesn’t buy much with their increased prices.
On top of that, you can only use the money you add by placing mobile orders. There is no way to use it for in-store purchases.
Point system isn’t very generous either.
Overall a job poorly done.
Just downloaded CompassCoffee , tried adding my card and it won’t save the information. I wanted to put in an order and have already put all my card information four times, hit save and it’s just not there. What is going on??
Recently CompassCoffee just won’t load. I’ve tried for an hour to load, so I could upload funds and place an order. But after an hour CompassCoffee still won’t load. I have also tried being on data or Wi-Fi. Read downloading CompassCoffee , and nothing works. I think CompassCoffee it’s just not equipped for a lot of traffic.
Hard to be happy with an app you are constantly pushing with $5 incentives when I have to dump $25 minimum into it. It leads to too many situations of money stuck in CompassCoffee , not quite enough to pay for a nice coffee, so then that quick coffee you wanted to grab turns into another $25 and its locked away for compass. I go all the time, you dont need to do me like that.
Really want to support Compass, but we should be able to use our app wallet in-store versus only having to place an order ahead. So many other coffee shops have the ability to have customers scan their app wallet for us to use on-site. I can’t do things like refill my growler on CompassCoffee . I won’t be adding anymore value to my app wallet until we can scan it in store.
I typically love compass, its near work and the coffee/pastries are good. That being said in the past two weeks CompassCoffee has been super buggy (broken at 9am on a Tuesday) and I got spoiled oatmilk at the Chinatown location. What’s up gang?
CompassCoffee won’t allow you to pay directly if your funds are low or to load less than $25!! You can’t get your money back either. Don’t use this unless you’re a frequent customer who likes to order ahead.
Stellar coffee but an app that seems like someone tinkers with it in their garage without doing any market research. $25 minimum to reload and then your money is stuck hostage. Can’t use CompassCoffee to make purchases in store, only to make mobile orders in advance. This is bad when the stores in the District are not actually open regardless of posted hours or mobile ordering being turned on. No other competitor requires minimum reloads. Also, the rewards program, which has never been good because you can only redeem points for specific items. Now it’s even worse with the redemption amounts being so high that it can be as many as thirty purchased coffees before you earn the same free drink, and even then it’s not going to be exactly the same unless you drink one of the dozen or so beverages on the redemption list. In sum, the coffee is great but there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to use CompassCoffee .
You have to load $25 at a time, which is unreasonably high in my opinion. I also get texts with coupon codes all the time, directing me to use them in CompassCoffee , but CompassCoffee has no clear way to enter them.
If I need to order ahead I end up ordering from another place because CompassCoffee just seems clunky to use.
I have a Compass account yet each time I go to use the ap and enter in my phone number it tells me it's invalid. I went to a Compass location and showed them the error yesterday. Waiting to hear from someone. I keep getting the emails and text alerts to add the $5 bonus to my account, yet since the Ap has bugs or issue with my account it's not working.
There are multiple drawbacks using the Compass App:
1. They force you to add a minimum balance of $25 to place pickup orders, it’s not pay per order
2. They mess up orders, I received a matcha latte instead of maple latte and CompassCoffee doesn’t have an option to report and ask for a refund
3. If you call the store, nobody picks up the phone to fix messed up orders and provide a refund. So the only option one is left with is go back and ask for a refund or redo it for you.
Short story - if you some employee messed up your order, you are gonna have a terrible experience. Hence, please DO NOT USE CompassCoffee
CompassCoffee is ok, but it could be better. My biggest complaint is the fact that you can only reload your account with a minimum of $25. Initially, you had the ability to load any amount, but they got wise to this and disabled it. That’s when I stopped buying their coffee. I like ordering on CompassCoffee bc I can pick up my order on the way to work. What I don’t like is being forced to load $25 minimum to my account in order to do this. Why can’t I choose how much I want to load my account with? It’s not worth it to wait in line. Since they’ve disabled the feature to reload any amount, I’ve stopped drinking their coffee. I’d rather go to Starbucks where I can reload any amount. Most (not all) of the baristas at the eye street location are rude and grumpy also.
I was visiting DC recently and Compass Coffee was across the street from our hotel.
I loaded money on CompassCoffee but after ordering was told they had no way in the store to allow me to pay for my purchase using the money I’d loaded onto CompassCoffee . They said the only way I could use the funds was to order and pay all in CompassCoffee .
Ok. So the next day we needed an early evening coffee boost so we placed an order via CompassCoffee and then walked over to get it, only to be told that even though CompassCoffee accepted and processed the order, the store had cancelled it because they close on 10 minutes.
I am now back in MN with money on CompassCoffee that I was never able to use. They have too many kinks to work out before I’d recommend CompassCoffee.
Also, I’ve reached out to their customer service which claims to respond to all requests in 24 hours. It’s been 2 weeks and no response.
Overall this is just poorly executed and frustrating.
I’ll start this with a true ‘ I love Compass Coffee.’ It’s my daily shop, we keep their Nespresso pods on order and pick up coffee tins monthly.
But CompassCoffee is subpar - issues in no particular order:
- mobile app cannot be used to pay at the register, forcing you to mobile order.
- the mobile order tracking is awful. I never know if my coffee will be there in 15 minutes or 3 minutes, and I’ve stopped ordering breakfast sandwiches as when I arrive at the 15 minute mark they have been ice cold. In quiet hours Rosslyn processes their orders in 3 minutes, McPherson can take 15 - if they check the order slips.
- I am a sugar free vanilla cold brew fan, selecting “no” milk appears as “none” when printed at the store. This has lead to milk in my coffee several times as the baristas have thought that just meant “no speciality milk.” Nice to remake, but CompassCoffee needs to be fixed.
Having the minimum option to add funds set to $25 is shady because if I buy 2 drinks for $13, I have to add $25 every time. Why? Can’t there also be an option to use Apple Pay for payments as well or 1 time payments?
I tried to log in with my number, but it says it’s invalid phone number.
Apparently, I am not the only one with having same issue.
I’ve had trouble using all coupon codes I’ve received, including one for $5 on my birthday. Basically any promotion that cam via email had a code that did NOT work in CompassCoffee . App also needs item descriptions (ingredients, flavor profile) and nutritional information. Finally, a $25 minimum reload is very high, would much prefer lower (like $10). Otherwise, it’s a pretty good, easy to use app.
App is easy to use but I am not a fan of having to reload a compass card instead of being able to pay with mine. Also having the minimum reload be $25 is crazy when other companies let you do much less.
Love being able to order ahead! But I can use my rewards for any appropriate item in store but CompassCoffee only allows for certain ones? Can this be fixed please ?
App is easy to navigate and my drink has always been ready when I get to Compass. It seems like every time I log in I have another reward waiting for me!
I am so glad that I can order coconut latte via app like how I order from starbucks. Hope to see more rewards options in the future.
Great app. Can better track my points, which means more free cold brew. So I’m a happy camper.
Love the order ahead + customization options. Makes it so easy to get good coffee!
Love how easy it is to find my favorite drinks, set my pickup time, and skip the line! 10/10
Love this payments app! Excited for Compass Coffee to add more locations. Waaaay better than that other coffee place that rhymes with Narbucks
The Compass app makes it fast and easy to order coffee for pickup on my way to work
I think this has such negative ratings because customers are expecting Starbucks style interface and functionality. Compass should get there eventually but it’s not time. It’s functional and fulfills it’s purpose.
App is easy to use, good coffee. I like that I can schedule a coffee for when I’ll have time to grab it.
Compass Coffee is very safe to use.
