Want to love it but I really DO NOT like that I can’t start the program whenever I want too and rearrange the workouts and days. It’s very challenging and not user friendly at ALL.
by NTM2525
GAINSBYBRAINS is down daily. I only work out an hour a day and every time I do, GAINSBYBRAINS just keeps giving an error. I looked at my work out plan earlier today, and it was fine but when I go to the gym in the evening, I got singed out and get error on sign in and can’t use GAINSBYBRAINS . GAINSBYBRAINS wasn’t working yesterday, and the day before. Please fix this. I am so close to requesting Apple for a refund, what’s the point of having it but can barely use it.
by EBR1
I beyond disappointed in GAINSBYBRAINS. I spend more time writing the support team sharing the same issues. Unfortunately I cannot get a credit as I’m outside the window. Do NOT purchase GAINSBYBRAINS. Something that is to improve health has increased stress troubleshooting.

GAINSBYBRAINS isn’t bad, I still think it needs improving but I decided to cancel my subscription this past weekend. I’ve been using GAINSBYBRAINS since late November/early December and at first I really enjoyed it despite how horrible the bugs were but regarding the program I was doing, hourglass, I don’t really understand why only one upper body day was scheduled within that program. I’m looking to strengthen my upper body while maintain an hourglass figure and I just feel like only having one upper body day and 3 days for glutes doesn’t make sense. I ended up always creating my own 2nd upper day but I just don’t think GAINSBYBRAINS aligns with my goal anymore. I also feel like I don’t need to be in the gym for almost 2 hours to get good results. I still think I learned a lot from being on the program and it definitely gave me the confidence to use the equipment in the gym but I think along with this and other things I feel about GAINSBYBRAINS, I’ve decided to move on to another program with someone else. Thank you anyways

It looked like it was working at first, but after trying to load GAINSBYBRAINS today - you can’t even scroll down the home page without GAINSBYBRAINS crashing and exiting out, let alone try and view any of the recipes. When loading the workouts, they’re very slow to load and there’s no description to give a more in-depth explanation of the workout you’re doing. The functionality of the buttons and pages are not easy to click on/switch between, and it doesn’t make clear which workouts are the warm up and which are the actual workout. Other apps I’ve used had that feature and it’s 10/10. Whoever coded GAINSBYBRAINS did a very poor job. I love Sophie’s workouts she posts on insta, but until she gets a better developer, I won’t be using GAINSBYBRAINS. I would not recommend downloading GAINSBYBRAINS until all of the bugs are fixed.
by Egkf5
I love Sophie and these workouts have been game changing. HOWEVER, I have resulted to writing them down in a notebook and taking that with me to the gym. It seems like whenever I’m about to start my workout, GAINSBYBRAINS crashes, logs me out, or my days get all mixed up on (ex. I selected workouts on M W F and now they are T Th S). This is so frustrating. I thought GAINSBYBRAINS would be more convenient for me but honestly if I can’t see my plan for my workout I just end up leaving the gym or doing excessive cardio bc I’m ANGRY lol. Please please fix this!!!!
by Rubyben13
Keeping it bc I think the results are coming in but GAINSBYBRAINS has a lot of glitches and it messes up days and your workout…
by Gabi11271202
There are a lot of things need work on. 1. I like the idea of quotes in the title of different workouts, but it is very confusing. I’m expecting to know what this workout is by reading the title, but now I have to click and go in to see. 2. You cannot delete a sequence of workouts from the planner, which makes you edit all weeks manually. 3. Workouts are very redundant. I tried beginner and intermediate, every week the same workouts repeat almost three times. 4. You cannot edit your level unless you do the survey question again. 5. When you are exercising, you have to click on the next exercise to start, which is very inconvenient. But overall I think GAINSBYBRAINS has lots of potentials, the meals look delicious too.
Edit: I will not subscribe to GAINSBYBRAINS after the trial period. My biggest complaint is that the workouts are basically exactly the same every single day for entire 12 weeks. They claimed there will be big change after 3-4 weeks. NONE. The workouts still remain the same. I just cannot justify the price for all the repetitive workouts GAINSBYBRAINS provides. Save yourself some money and get other workout apps which have more varieties.
by Bububusinkaaa
I was really excited to start the workout program with this app. Started from intermediate level but then on the week three decided to make some changes to program, that’s when problems with GAINSBYBRAINS appeared. My week now starts from Saturday and it there is nothing you can do about it. Restarted GAINSBYBRAINS , deleted it and still doesn’t work right.
by Ericamejia04
Very confusing, doesn’t save workouts added to planner. I was so excited to use GAINSBYBRAINS and program at the gym but when I was there it was giving me a different workout from what I had added to my schedule. It was awful trying to figure it out. I just decided to do my own workout. Very disappointing
by Lkn96
love sophie but GAINSBYBRAINS is terrible. logs you out and crashes constantly during workouts making it so frustrating and near impossible to use some days. also don't love that you can't adjust which days you want to do which workout. definitely regret purchasing the yearly subscription after having such high hopes for it. i've had it since the first week it launched and it's somehow only gotten buggier
by Wrstlr247
I support Sophie and I really wanted to love GAINSBYBRAINS but it keeps crashing and it’s just reset everything in the middle of my workout! Really disappointed.
by Lola657C
Was really looking forward to getting GAINSBYBRAINS. It won’t go past the 3rd screen
by @saratyler__
I wish this wasn’t so, but GAINSBYBRAINS won’t load. Every time I go to use it I have to close out of it, go back in clip around to see if I can get the workouts to load.
by A11n1cknamestaken
When setting up GAINSBYBRAINS there is a screen that asks you “on which days do you want to work out?” I selected the days and the “next” button would never “ungrey”. No matter how many days I selected or what I did the next button never became active so I couldn’t use GAINSBYBRAINS at all :( I just blew my free trial so if they flix the glitch I’ll next get to try GAINSBYBRAINS .
I wish she would use an existing app like Playbook. That app is awesome and works.
by Cindy_flores101
So many glitches. I hate how long the workouts are and they’re the same every week. There’s several things they can work on. I cancelled my subscription and got GAINSBYBRAINS Ladder! It’s like having a personal trainer walk you step by step. If anyone’s looking for a different app!
by Golden..ration
I love gains by brain but GAINSBYBRAINS can do a lot better. Tip Weglow is wayyyy better. Once GAINSBYBRAINS becomes that I’ll consider switching over
by Gmiller4804
GAINSBYBRAINS is extremely buggy and it’s very hard to pick and choose which program you want to participate in (kicks you back to a survey). I’ve found that there is little to no variety in the types of workouts and I haven’t mad much progress with this plan compared to others that I’ve tried. Won’t be renewing.
by Kittycatlina
It’s very user unfriendly. I couldn’t figure out how to navigate the fitness program. Please update and I’ll resubscribe.
by Jhernelle
I was so excited to learn GAINSBYBRAINS was released! After downloading and looking through a few features I have some feedback.
- There is no way to view a full recipe. Actually anything that has too much text has ‘…’ after it and there is no where you can click that shows the complete text.
- The first few days there were a TON of recipes, which I was really excited about because they looked great. Now, a lot of those recipes seem to be missing.
- Also, if you favorite a recipe there’s no way to go back and find it.
- Since Sophie has her workout YT channel and home program on her site I assumed there would be some home workouts available for GAINSBYBRAINS , but sadly there aren’t. For days I don’t go to the gym GAINSBYBRAINS won’t be very useful.
- I love the motivation behind the workout titles, but it’s very confusing to know what the workout entails without clicking on it which is a bit cumbersome.
- A weight tracker with each exercise would be great to track progress.
It’s hard to pay for a subscription for an app that has small but really noticeable bugs/issues that need to be addressed. I’ve been waiting what feels like years for GAINSBYBRAINS to drop so I’m hoping there are some updates to make GAINSBYBRAINS more user friendly!
by DorotaP12
I was so excited to get GAINSBYBRAINS, but I am so disappointed. There was so much potential, but I think this was released prematurely. GAINSBYBRAINS needs some work with seamless loading of content and actually displaying the recipes in full. It’s not cheap, so I expected it to work well. Unfortunately, the recipes don’t include a full comprehensive step by step list, you have to click through pictures to get through the whole recipe. The workouts don’t always load and there is no clear separation when you’re done with the warm up and transitioning to the workout. It would also make it easier if there was a way to view the workout on your apple watch in a list format with the tempo and reps included so there was no need for clicking on each workout to get the information. Even if it wasn't on the watch, this could have been an option within GAINSBYBRAINS instead of having to click individually on the exercise to see the tempo. For people who don't want the video demonstration, it should be easy to just see the workout steps in a list format to check off with the tempo and reps.
by Julesdora
I want to like GAINSBYBRAINS but most likely won’t keep my subscription once it’s over. GAINSBYBRAINS has a lot of bugs that make it too frustrating to use. My calendar doesn’t align with the actually day it is. Also when I add a workout to a certain day or mark a day as a rest day, it selects a different day. Some of the exercise videos are a different video of another exercise. Some of the exercises workouts are the same but called something different. Disappointed very simple things were not properly UATed before GAINSBYBRAINS when live.
by BVC1990
I love the trainer and I follow her you tube and instagram but GAINSBYBRAINS needs some help.
1. If you click out of GAINSBYBRAINS it closes out of your workout and doesn’t allow you to get back into it.. I just lost my whole workout because I had to answer a text In the middle of it. So frustrating.
2. You have to manually add every set, no way to easily drag and drop or repeat what you did previously.
3. No timers for sets that have length attached.
4. The biggest complaint is that I cannot adjust the days and schedule for which I want to do a workout.. I don’t follow a typical Monday to Sunday schedule and I need to be able adjust my schedule accordingly. GAINSBYBRAINS doesn’t allow you to assign each workout to the day of the week that you want..
5. There is no way to swap out a workout if your gym doesn’t have that machine or you need to make a modification.
by Yah Or Nah
Hi, I’m a fan of Sophie and she was the first person I thought of when I committed to go to the gym. Downloaded GAINSBYBRAINS and I only made it to the 3rd screen (10 seconds in) before it froze one the screen asking me how often I’d like to workout. It wouldn’t let me click ‘next’. I had to close out twice and reopen it. Not sure if I’m going to make it pass the free trial.
by Jennay858
GAINSBYBRAINS has a good portion of workouts & I really like the trainer a lot. Oftentimes the workout days don’t load but it’s a simple click on another icon. I missed a Black Friday promotion and tried working with their customer support to get the 20% off but didn’t have luck after almost 2 weeks of emailing back & forth. I really love the programs & her workout style & I ended up caving in and bought the yearly subscription. GAINSBYBRAINS froze & I wasn’t able to load my program until I forced a log out from my Apple ID. Now I find out that there is another 50% annual subscription but I’m afraid I’ll lose my progress in GAINSBYBRAINS . Great trainer, good recipes but I wish they would honor the discount for returning customers or people wanting to switch from monthly to annual.
by Sm_21
Let me start by saying that I used GAINSBYBRAINS during the free 14 day trial and while I enjoyed the workouts GAINSBYBRAINS is extremely glitchy.
The main problem for me is the calendar which a lot of other reviews complain about as well.
As long as you don’t make any changes to it, it’s fine but the moment you do, it loses its mind and the days no longer match.
I hope that in the the future there is a way to save recipes and they need to add some sort of alert when your rest time is a few seconds from ending
I just can’t justify paying 100 dollars for an app that has so many glitches and seems like it was released before it was completed.
I hate that most of the reviews were right about it.
Anyway, I hope that some major changes are made to it and maybe I will try it again.
by Eew20
I would love to love GAINSBYBRAINS and it has so much potential! There are some things I wish would update. I love all of your guides.
Countdown timer with beeps at (3,2,1) then move directly into the next exercise and the rest between different workouts that automatically go into next workout. It’s a pain to have to click next when you wanna go directly into the next set/or workout.
I would love for the warmups to be timed instead of reps but that’s personal preference.
Right and left sides with reps.
Running workout timer at the top to keep track of how long workout is.
Apple Watch reflects workouts because most of the time I look to my watch to see how many reps this exercise is for. Also, for the rest between sets. It’d be nice to see that on both the watch and the phone.
Also, wish the days of the week would go away, or could skip all together and just follow as able. I work a different schedule each week, so it’s hard to set my workout days.
I love the exercises and the vision of what GAINSBYBRAINS has the potential to offer!!
by Noname7274748
I love the workouts but GAINSBYBRAINS itself is lack luster. It would be nice to be able to track how much weight I’m lifting and how many reps I made it through. It would also be awesome if I could actually see all the steps and ingredients for the recipes. I can’t actually try any of them if the instructions are cut off.
by Maryy_2023
I had the free trial to see view the programs. However, once it expired most things in GAINSBYBRAINS do not load. I can’t view the programs. It just shows gray boxes loading but now nothing works. I paid for it because I assumed it was because the free trail ended. And then nothing. I can’t view anything on it. I’ve tried deleting and redownloading GAINSBYBRAINS and restarting my phone. I’ve tried connecting to different internet sources. I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue?
by Lizi524
I could only do one workout on GAINSBYBRAINS because the bugs were just too frustrating, videos not loading the days of the week are off and just overall too many issues for me to continue using.
by All Nicknames Are Taken 52
GAINSBYBRAINS keeps defaulting to some random workout schedule that isn’t mine. I also wish it included some kind of tracking system so I could input the weight used and reps for progressive overload. It’s a pretty expensive app and I’m just not sure how it’s worth it with so few features. I would rather just adhere to a workout program I pay for once and fitness recipes that are typically free of charge. I wanted to like GAINSBYBRAINS but I’m just confused as to what I’m paying for exactly.
by DHoskin
My app never loads anything.
by Teeni
Constantly have to refresh GAINSBYBRAINS and restart for it to work properly / load / update
by Izza BKT
App keeps changing the workout days and i sometimes have to reopen and close GAINSBYBRAINS several times. Needs lots of tech improvement to be a seamless experience
by Chellybell37
The workouts are amazing. I am enjoying those a lot. GAINSBYBRAINS is pretty glitchy, but it is worth the patience. Some recommendations for the developers: if we can log our weight amounts, if the timer can beep when it’s completed and if the timer can still run if we have to swipe away from GAINSBYBRAINS during rests. Also for the sprint/easy run splits, it would be really nice if it just flowed straight through with beeps so I wouldn’t have to spend time fussing around with timers. Really excited to watch GAINSBYBRAINS continue to develop!!
by Gspi97
Good workout but has some problems. I’m in week 4 of the advanced transform program and some of the videos do not align with the exercise. For instance, for the DB Incline Chest Press and Chest Supported Row, the video is of Sophie doing a body weight squat. The rest timer also does not run in the background (I have the latest version) and workouts are scheduled Sunday-Friday when I have “Monday-Saturday” set as my workout days and I’m not able to change it. It is also really difficult to move workouts around. Please get these issues fixed soon! Thanks!
by Heyyylinds
I wish there was a timer that would go off to let you know your rest is over!
Loving it so far though
by LittleWhittle92
GAINSBYBRAINS , workouts and meals are awesome except for some of the bugs in GAINSBYBRAINS . It takes a while for GAINSBYBRAINS to load my days workout plans, GAINSBYBRAINS crashes quite a bit and is slow in maneuvering through it. I also wish there were exercise alternatives as I only have a small town gym to work out in and it does not have a lot of the machines and equipment required for some of the exercises so a lot of times I have to search alternatives myself.
Great app, just needs some working on.
by Annnnnjela
I love the workouts and have been seeing results with following the program, but my issue is that it seems like with each new update GAINSBYBRAINS gets glitchier and glitchier. The dates don’t match up to what I have set for my workouts, the preview workouts are completely different from what’s shown in the live workout and GAINSBYBRAINS constantly either completes a set, skips a set or completes a workout all on its own when I’m going through my workout. Gotten into the habit of just screenshotting the workout and keeping track in my notes, but kinda defeats the purpose of having/paying for GAINSBYBRAINS . Hoping these bugs and issues get resolved soon because I’m on week 7 and want to restart the 12 weeks once i complete the first round. Also would be nice to add a feature where the program can be paused. Took a week off due to thanksgiving and family coming over, but didn’t have an option to pause and come back the following week. GAINSBYBRAINS has a lot of potential and holding on for now.
by Birdyrobyn
It would be nice to restart your workout plan/my schedule is starting on week 2. I initially started the program a week before I got my gym membership because I wanted to check out GAINSBYBRAINS . Now it continues to progress the weeks on my schedule even though I haven’t started. Not sure how to restart the program from week 1 day 1. I tried switching program regiments and it started me on week 2 on the schedule (my original plan was on week 3 at the time). Both programs seemed to skip week 1 on the schedule.
by Akxbeiwndakgb
I’ve been doing Sophie’s workouts for a while now and I absolutely love them , the only thing is GAINSBYBRAINS is not very customizable at this point . I chose the transform program and gave it the days I wanted to workout and it chooses default days. I went in to try and change it manually and it won’t allow me to do so. It doesn’t save the changes . Going to try it out for a while anyway to see if they make any changes and updates to GAINSBYBRAINS . Here’s hoping they do.
by AKLWC
Still needs a lot of work. For example, I marked what days are my rest days, but GAINSBYBRAINS still puts workouts on those days, and it’s not user friendly switching around days for the workouts. It would be better to have a general list of the workouts for that week and we can pick what days to do them.
I do love the programs, and I think it has a lot of potential, but there are a lot of bugs and it’s not completely user friendly.
by Maishebaa
The meals section is loading and been stuck ever since I subscribed to it. Extremely buggy
My issue with it the lack of alternatives for certain workouts .Not suitable for users who have their own home gym (lack of certain machines) This is great for gym use100%. The treadmill run lacks 0 information about the incline &suggested speed. I hope GAINSBYBRAINS gets better and offers more workout that is suitable for home/gym users.
by Litchat
The workouts and exercises are good but I really dislike that you can’t pause between different exercise sets. I don’t have a private gym and I have to hop around a busy one sometimes needing to skip the order. GAINSBYBRAINS doesn’t allow for that with ease. For almost $20 I would think you can pause as needed
by METAMNDST
Let's get one thing clear from the start: I LOVE SOPHIE. I think she is so smart when it comes fo working out and nutrition, It's literally why I got GAINSBYBRAINS - to have an easy to use, direct plan as to what to work out and what to eat.
The content is good mostly - i did not use the recipes so i can't speak on that but i am happy that there was a whole recipe book and sometimes there were triggers like "Are you hungry?" "Don't know what to eat?" And it would redirect me to the recipes.
In terms of the workouts, here's a summary of the PROS:
• Guided walkthrough of exercise
• Clear distinction between warm up, exercise, and cool down
• GIF/short videos to demonstrate the motions
• In-app timers for reps
And here is a summary of the things i think COULD BE IMPROVED (not cons):
• App kept crashing (i understand it's new and this will stabilize with time, just want to be transparent)
• The calendar was not accurate, it was like 2 days behind (i.e., today was Sunday but GAINSBYBRAINS thought it was Friday and gave me Friday's workout)
• I wish the logging of an exercise was more in-line with the workout. For example, when i finish a set, why not ask there what weight and reps and then go into a timer? Rather than having to press a separate button to log my weights and reps.
• One last note, as I went through the exercises, I noticed in the beginning of my plan, I had two leg days with different titles but they were the exact same work out. It is pretty misleading and maybe i did miss a small differentiator, but I think it's clearer to just have the repeated workout title. Because overtime I know what to expect and I associate the exercises with the workout title - minor suggestion but still.
Anyway, thank you for creating the content and putting it out there for us!! I'd love to redownload GAINSBYBRAINS at a later date when GAINSBYBRAINS is no longer crashing (-:
by Narwhal Fairy
I really want to keep GAINSBYBRAINS but it’s so annoying to use. On the one hand, I like the exercises and the small amount of guidance but it would. Be so much better if it had a little more explanation about things.
For someone who doesn’t have a lot of knowledge of workouts, equipment or nutrition, it’s not very good.
For the workouts, it doesn’t explain any kind of form or definition of tempo or reps. When following the workouts, it doesn’t automatically go to the next exercise (or give you a choice) so you have to stop what you’re doing and mess with your phone to go to the next set.
The whole app doesn’t run smoothly. I have to reset it several times before it gives me the correct day. I also find it strange that when you start a program, it takes you to the beginning of the month. Wouldn’t it make make sense to have the calendar on the actual current day? It would still be able to keep track of the weeks you do your workouts but it wouldn’t be so hard to read. When it’s the 27th but the workout calendar is telling you it’s the 1st it’s kind of hard to keep track of your days.
It’s a bummer because I really want to like GAINSBYBRAINS but it really isn’t worth the workouts you could find other places if you’re someone who needs a bit more guidance.
I will say that I am committed to finishing the program I started and because of the things I had to learn for myself to get use out of the free trial, I have learned a lot more about nutrition and health and exercise so I am grateful for that. I think if a bit more time and work was put into GAINSBYBRAINS it could be really wonderful.
by Katewbkatewb
Really wanted to try GAINSBYBRAINS , so I immediately downloaded and signed up after hearing about the release. But guess I didn’t get my pw right when signing up and now I can’t log in. After clicking the reset password button in the pw reset email, it took me directly back to GAINSBYBRAINS , but the reset pw screen slid right back down, which made it impossible to reset pw. Hope that bug can be fixed soon.
by Chichiii Esmabe
I want to love it but it’s so glitchy. For some reason, I think GAINSBYBRAINS doesnt know what day it is. When I select the days I workout, it picks the wrong days. Also, when you try to favorite a recipe, sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn’t. Ive exited GAINSBYBRAINS once and all my favorited recipes were gone. Also it’s so hard to add / plan workouts. i want to love GAINSBYBRAINS but it’s so frustrating. I paid for a glitchy app
by Mviillegaas
I’ve been using gym apps for years so I’m very familiar with the UI experience behind these apps. I feel like GAINSBYBRAINS should start on a more friendly price based on all the bugs you find around.
1. Very inconvenient names for workouts. I don’t really know what day is each. Upper body? Lower body? No idea
2. Times stops when I exit GAINSBYBRAINS . There is no an alarm or anything to let me know I have to continue.
3. I have to click on the next exercise which I find very annoying.
4. If I like a recipe, where does it go? Is so hard to find your liked recipes
5. I know some changing are coming but for now I don’t really want to pay 100$/year with all these inconveniences.
by QHorses Rock
It has potential! I did the first week of workouts as advanced but after the second week it automatically sets the workouts back to beginner. I tried resetting it multiple times but can’t get it to stay on the advanced workouts. I will definitely try GAINSBYBRAINS again once the kinks are worked out!
by Stace0829
I wish that when you went to the next exercise it would restart from the beginning. I wish it also had a feature to track the weight that you are doing. Also the timer doesn’t work unless you stay in GAINSBYBRAINS .
by Jujubees009
I got GAINSBYBRAINS over a month. The warm up exercises are not in the training program. The option to record the weights for each week is not there.
by Yvesh123
I like the workouts in GAINSBYBRAINS as well as the meal prep options, but it’s a little slow in loading your workout for the day, it would be cool if the timer continued when you exited GAINSBYBRAINS , and would love to see a weight recording option!
by Englbirg Himperdinkt
Not bad for a new app but would like to see the following features incorporated:
- Pausing workouts
- Restarting weekly plans
- Audio tempo beats (hard to look at the screen to make sure I’m on tempo while working out)
by Tessie131313
Unable to view full cooking instructions for meals. Instructions don’t fully “extend” out. Can only see them partially per step.
by Mags.kay
I’ve been following Sophie on IG for forever and was so excited to see that she released an app!
I’ve done 2 workouts so far and flipped through the rest of my program to see what changes there would be in the coming weeks. I chose to do the hourglass program and it looks like the workouts are the same for 3 weeks, then keep changing a bit every 3 or so weeks until you hit 10 weeks. I don’t mind that the program is repetitive, because that’s how you gain muscle. However, I’m not sure if I’ll keep GAINSBYBRAINS after the 2 week trial because of a few things:
1) I don’t like that the rest timer doesn’t let me leave GAINSBYBRAINS lol when I’m resting, I’ll usually go on my Instagram or check my emails. I’d like it better if the timer could keep going in the background and go off when it’s ready. I’ve been setting my own timer on my phone’s timer to do that.
2) when I mark the exercise as done on my day’s workout plan, it should go to the next exercise — not back to the workout list. It’s kind of annoying having to mark done then scroll down to find your next exercise. I also noticed GAINSBYBRAINS maybe glitches a bit and the exercise I marked done is no longer done, so I mark it again.
3) I wish there was an option to mark down what weight I used at each set as I go through the workout. This would help me remember what weight I can use next time or even what weight I could push it to next time. It would also make GAINSBYBRAINS double as a fitness journal!
4) what does tempo mean?! I know from following Sophie that she likes to play around with the tempo of the exercises to maximize gainz… but there’s no explanation for what those numbers mean??? Not even when I press the little question mark next to it. If you’re going to incorporate exercise tempo into the workout, there needs to be an explanation for what each of the numbers mean in “3001”.
I haven’t gotten to try any of the recipes yet, but they all look great!
I want to love GAINSBYBRAINS and keep it, but we’ll see how I feel after my 2 week trial is over.
by Apple-land
I like the workouts.. I like the plans.
I don’t like that there isn’t a variety of short workouts to choose from. Like if I do 3 leg days I want to have maybe 2 ab and 2 upper days that are like 10-20 mins.
Wish there was better filters when searching
Wish the planner was more extensive
Wish there were video workouts to follow along with like her YouTube at home workouts. Idk. I wanna have GAINSBYBRAINS but for what I see, the price isn’t worth it. Just lacking a lot. Feels like it should’ve been tested more.
by Maeuschenmaedel
I’m becoming more frustrated with GAINSBYBRAINS . $18 is too much a month for an app that is not record properly when I finish exercises and has glitches nearly every time I use it. If they don’t fix more soon, I won’t be buying again
by Kikstartrunjunper
The workout programs are great as always! I’m really excited that we will be able to log our weight on workouts now. There are some bugs with GAINSBYBRAINS but Sophie’s team is really on top of everything. I’ve had to email for help to get access to the programs and her team was incredibly helpful and responsive.
If I could make a recommendation in addition to the changes they just made, I would ask for descriptions of movements/how to do them properly on each exercise.
Overall, it’s a great app and I’ve already seen improvements in my body from the workouts. Sophie’s team listens and responds well to feedback and I can’t wait for when GAINSBYBRAINS reaches its full potential!

I am very happy with the program, workouts, meal ideas- I’m seeing changes after just 3 weeks. With it being a brand new app I totally expect bugs- and it does have its bugs!
Buttons that don’t work, but should. Loading meals for particular days that then never show up again. Not being able to move my workouts to different days. My schedule I set has randomly shifted completely.
I’m happy and sticking with it bc it helping- but definitely looking for updates!

Personally, I think everyone is far too harsh reviewing GAINSBYBRAINS. I wouldn’t give it a 5 because there are some personal gripes I have with it, such as not specifying if the single leg workouts/stretches are each or you’re supposed to split the set, and that you can’t choose to start on a Saturday it automatically starts on a Monday, and I’d also love to be able to put what my
PR is for a weight on that workout. HOWEVER, I’ve been using it for a month and already have results! I’ve been doing the hourglass program 6 days a week (not super consistently, I missed some days here and there but I was fairly consistent) and I went from a 27-38 to a 26-39 :). Regardless of some technical errors that are way fewer than the reviews lead you to believe, GAINSBYBRAINS gives results, and I think thats the most important takeaway here.

There are places where it can still be improved. A better description of the workout and a timer on each exercise that automatically goes to the next one. GAINSBYBRAINS is still very bare bones but I think it’s a good foundation for the future. I’m excited to see where it goes but it needs to be constantly updated.

First off, I want to say that I just finished the free 2-week trial and decided to pay for the 1-year subscription and this is why. Overall, I enjoyed the varied workouts. I was tired of my own routine and loved the idea that a routine was being made for me. I opted for GAINSBYBRAINS instead of just a PDF because I liked that it included timers and logs my workouts. I also did a quick scan and it seems that even within the same program on a different week (I’m on Hourglass) that there will be some exercises that are swapped out which I like because it keeps it interesting but consistent enough that the first 3 weeks so far are the same.
Although I enjoy the workouts, but only issue is with GAINSBYBRAINS itself. GAINSBYBRAINS is supposed to be used during your entire workout and there are lots of areas for improvements:
1. Provide alternative exercises.
I find that it is inconvenient when my gym doesn’t have that exact machine needed or it is being used and it is my last workout that I can’t use it. So I google alternative workouts myself but it would be nicer to have a button where it opens up a list of alternative workouts that hits the same muscle group.
2. Show recent rep/weight for workouts.
So when you log your workout, it always shows a “-“ which makes sense if you never done it before. But after the first time, it would be sensible to display what you did the most recent time.
Ex:
Hip Thrusts:
(12) x (50)
(12) x (50)
(12) x (70)
That would be 1) convenient to remember how many reps and at what weight you did them last time and 2) help you modify if needed instead of guessing
3. Allow autofill for repeats when you add information for rep/weight
It would be nice if GAINSBYBRAINS allowed you just hit “+” for the same rep+weight you did the last set instead of inputting it one by one each and every time
4. Automatic pop up to log rep+weight
Once you finish a set, the log for rep+weight would automatically pop up
5. More fluid counts/timers.
5a) once you finish one workout and click “next workout,” if it is timed, the timer will automatically starts and more likely than not you’re not ready. It would probably make more sense to have a transitional period when you end one workout for you to hit “next” and just get a preview of what the next one is, head over to the next machine and then to hit “ready” whenever you’re ready to start
5b) After starting a workout, it would be nice if it had a 3-second countdown to start and sync with Sophie’s video to you can do with the tempo. Then once it’s done, it should automatically start the rest timer and when it gets close to starting the next set, it should have a “get ready” by the last 10 seconds of the resting timer and then countdown to start again. This would be nice as it would feel like we have a trainer with us, which is GAINSBYBRAINS . This small but super engaging feature would create a more interactive experience for the user.
Overall, I only paid for GAINSBYBRAINS because I need something more engaging than a PDF of her workouts. But still, I think there needs to be lots of room for improvements for the user experience of GAINSBYBRAINS especially because she made this into a subscription instead of a one-time payment. I hope to see these improvements to see if it would be worth for me to resubscribe for the following year or not.

I like the countdown of time in between sets but I’d prefer not to have to check my phone to see if the time is up but just get a sound when it’s time to start the next one!

One issue: I can keep liking a recipe and the like count will increase - so essentially I can like then unlike a recipe.
Wish there were at home workouts with weights too

App is great! Very versatile. My only issue is that it freezes and sometimes clear out the work I did for the week
by Almike95
Love GAINSBYBRAINS but I wish it made sound to indicate when timers were up.

I’d been following Sohpie’s Elevate guide and was so excited for GAINSBYBRAINS. So far, it’s amazing. I know the updates are coming and I’m looking forward to weight logging, alternative exercises and maybe a timer.
I would like to see the timer keep working while my phone is turned off and even have a buzzer or sound. Another cool feature could be a log for weight or measurements. Can’t wait to see all the future updates.

Awesome app, love the improvements over the past few months. But there’s still a few bug, one I see is workout days, they always seem to be one off. If I put Monday as a workout day, I’ll see it as Sunday. The date also seems to be wrong. For example today is Monday but in app it says today is Sunday

Hello Sophie, I have followed you for a long time and GAINSBYBRAINS is a major milestone. I’m very proud. I already have 3 of your guides as well.
I checked out GAINSBYBRAINS and wanted to point out some improvements or bugs.
On Meals page nothing shows up in filters. And the option categories is unclickable.

I've been following and buying GB workouts for quite some time. The workout plans are thorough and very easy to follow even for beginners. Sophie really adds so much attention to posture and pace which sets you up for success!
I would love to see warm-ups and cooldowns associated with the plan, especially for those new to GB.
