Won’t even open.
AstroShader works well, apart from it randomly crashing on you. But this is not what this review is about, for some reason, I can only take one second exposures at a time. I don’t know if I messed something up but that is the max I can take no matter what. If this is a bug, please fix! If it’s some feature, please help me turn it off, thanks!!
this app exposure can not be triggered remotely with a Bluetooth trigger device (instead, sound volume goes up or down). Other than this the delay trigger helps prevent some wobble (but not all). Overall AstroShader helps clean up telescope images somewhat. A stacking/overlay function might also be helpful.
The functional layout is great.
There doesn't seem to be a way merge the stacked photos. The point of taking multiple pictures in low light, which is a key feature in AstroShader, is to combine them into a single picture to multiply the light gathered by several images.
I used this on my iPhone X and got some pretty impressive photos for what it was, but I upgraded to the 15 Pro and now AstroShader crashes whenever I start it.
AstroShader is simple and straightforward. the ui is easy to navigate and it shows you the important stuff without obstructing the viewfinder. the first few tries have worked extremely well on my 14PM, with andromeda galaxy visible in a bortle 6 area, but recently, the images have become blurry and low res. the first attempt got me 12MP but now i get a resolution of some 192x256, which isnt even 1MP. it happened when i turned on pixel binning and left the phone outside for about 10 mins in subzero (34F) temperatures. pls fix this since im really looking forward to seeing AstroShader succeed
In my opinion I think that it is missing some more functions. Such as automatic white balance, iso, and exposure time. If you could make it set the white balance by what filter you are using. Also AstroShader really need’s better editing and the ability to stack photos manually and automatically aligned stacking.
But this is a very good app for of what it is and it has so much potential. Thank you for reading and please make these features!
This is a great app but the one thing I wish it had was the ability to remote trigger from my apple watch. I can do this with the iphones built in camera app but not with this app. I would prefer not to touch the phone and cause any vibration. At least there is a delay you can use but an apple watch app would make this perfect
Hello, I really use to enjoy using AstroShader on my iPhone 13, however since upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro my screen will either go black while still being able to access the settings. Or the camera works fine but won’t take a photo. I contacted Apple and they suggested I reach out to you about this issue. Is this a known issue so far with the new phones with this app or will there be a new update coming out to fix this?
AstroShader is the greatest free astrophotography on the market by far. The UI is easy, and it takes amazing photos when used right. One issue. The thing crashes when taking long (like 40 sec+) exposures. After a certain amount of time it just kinda quits. Still an amazing app, and I would absolutely recommend to others!
No complaints since it’s currently free and I have an older iPhone but the stacking feature (which is what I was really hoping would work) only works maybe 60% of the time. I have a new iPhone adapter coming for my tracking telescope so I’m hoping to get it to work on some shots of Saturn!
If it works this would be fantastic!!!
Very cool app but operability with the Apple Watch would make framing and triggering a lot more convenient.
AstroShader actually force restarts my 16 Pro, works great on my 15 Pro though.
AstroShader is crazy good at Astro images with a phone mount on a telescope. And for free it’s absolutely worth the 5 stars. A way to save each frame to camera roll as they are taken would be great but I can’t complain at all about AstroShader in its current form
Honestly if you combined AstroShader with a plate solver like astrometry.net has this would be the best astrophotography app by far. You’d be able to see where you are and where your target is without 2 hours of being lost, especially in high bortle skies. Regardless AstroShader is amazing for astrophotography and is so much better than the other subscription needing ones. Only nightcap is a real competitor but I feel it works better outside the telescope.
i can see so many stars in a bortle 9. i can see AstroShader succeeding in the future so please dont stop working on it
I really dearly ask you that yall work more towards makeing AstroShader like a stacking software such as registaxx. It could allow me to stack and process space objects the auto align feature works well but please you will be a one of a kind app if you take that path towards becomeing a software for stacking and processing images. And I can assure many others will be looking for a app of this style. Also could you allow videos to be imported from camera roll to be aligned and stacked that would be very helpful even if all this becomes payware I will get it in a heartbeat please consider this! Thank you~ a loving supporter.
There’s a commercial that pokes fun at the iPhone, saying how it can’t see any stars. With the default camera app, a blurry black screen was the result.
(It even tried to use the flash. 😆)
But with this app, there were so many stars in the picture. 🤩
It can take some practice getting used to the settings, and I didn’t use a telescope, but AstroShader is powerful. It adds practical Astrophotography to the iPhone.
I did have some trouble seeing AstroShader in the dark though. The “Close” button – Black text on a red background was difficult to read. Perhaps the interface could be larger or have different color themes.
this app is a great way to introduce someone to Astrophotography. 🙂
I am new to astronomy and EAA and have struggled with getting decent pictures. I have two dedicated eyepiece cameras but I have yet to master image capture and post-processing; the learning curve is very steep. This application is exactly what I was looking for; something that allows me to get great looking images quickly & easily. I was starting to get discouraged with the whole process and AstroShader has rekindled my enthusiasm.
its hust insane, i thought i didnt need editing for space photos for my iphone, oh boy, got AstroShader and my god, its insane

AstroShader collected the following data from you:
AstroShader functions differently to traditional astrophotography workflows by aligning and stacking live during the image capture process.
• You can open images directly to use the edit tools in AstroShader - rather following a new image capture.
All you need is a stand, tripod, telescope or rock (to lean your phone on).
• Use a stand, tripod, telescope mount (or lean your iPhone on a rock).
