I can say that Dawnbeat and koala are the two best sampling apps on iOS. I have at least 10 different sampling apps, and these two are the tops out of all of them. I’m not going to compare this to koala as they are both different, but they both have awesome features that make both of them must haves. I played with this for about 10 minutes before I just ended up purchasing it because it’s so deep. From the sequencer, the AUV3 instruments that you can pull right in to sample, the effects, and the plethora of samples that come with Dawnbeat, makes it a no-brainer. The only issue I have and this isn’t really an issue is that the memorizer function. I wish it had an undo button. I like how you can set how many samples you want to memorize but if it just had a quick undo or at least a way to delete a few samples in it, that would be awesome. I know once you transfer what you’ve played in the memorizer to the sequencer you can dive right in and edit from there, so it isn’t a dealbreaker but for some of us lazy people, it would be nice to be able to quickly delete or undo the some of your samples played in the memorizer. However, the memorizer is an amazing feature and it’s cool that it even has it so honestly, that’s my only complaint and it’s not even a complaint.
Oh- one more thing-if you don’t save your project, you will lose all of the samples you’ve loaded on each pad. That is one actual complaint. sometimes I load up everything and then I have to quickly close Dawnbeat and I forget to save and there goes a half hour of loading samples onto the pads.
Dawnbeat has a lot of features, and it is so deep that only a few hours into playing it on my iPad and my iPhone I have found so many interesting features that I can’t believe are in an app at this price point. Dawnbeat could be five times the price and still completely worth it. I own hundreds of iOS audio apps, and I’ve been beta testing iOS audio apps since 2010 -I still get shocked when great apps, like these are released with such a good price. It’s so wonderful to know that a developer cares about music and helping other artists make music instead of putting out an overpriced subscription money grab.
Thank you for this wonderful app and at this price point. In my opinion, it is a gift. Between Dawnbeat and koala, I have not used my SP303, SP404, Korg volca sampler, or Korg ES 1 sampler in months. All I can say is download Dawnbeat and I guarantee you will play with it for about an 15 minutes and then you will end up buying it.
