Love this app! It is perfect for brains like mine!

Update as of 2021: Notifications for any bills created before this year seem to no longer provide notifications?

Here is the thing...I am impatient with bells and whistles. I like things to look nice, but when something starts getting multiple moving parts that are necessary in order to have the basic function that I need, I get annoyed. I tried so many financial apps before this app. All I wanted was to enter the date bills are due, be reminded when they are, and keep a logical historical record of when they were paid and how much was paid. Mint, Quickbooks, Microsoft Money, etc., etc. all are just too much for my purposes. And, having to connect my bank account to an app, especially to some of the apps whose developers I have never heard of, is NOT ok. That is never going to happen. So, this app is easy to look at, simple enough to navigate, backs itself up like apps should (many do not), and keeps me on schedule for monitoring both my and my elderly mom's bills. I can even look at just her bills or my bills thanks to tags. Chronicle is perfect. If features are added in the future, maybe those would be a great addition, but for now, I am a totally satisfied customer. The customer service has been top-notch every time I had a question as well. How many apps can boast about those last two items with their customers?

Simplicity is Best

this app checks all the boxes. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to specify which checking account paid the bill.
Other than that, this is the only bill reminder app that I have found that actually keeps a historical record of when and how much was paid and if a partial payment is made, it subtracts it from the current due amount with the option to not advance the date to the next month. Perfect.

Definitely needed this app

I like how Chronicle has your bills listed out what’s coming and what’s due. I wish it was a little more aggressive with notifications or have different options for notifications aggressiveness. (More often, less often, important) also if it had an option to adjust bills for payment arrangements for a balance certain bills, would make it so much easier to work with. Also if their was a option to log what card you used or want to use. But Chronicle is very good and has helped me log all my bills in one spot and keep track, im just a very customized person and I like things that hit the small details and Chronicle is almost perfect for me. Great interface btw its not hard to understand.

Like the app. Bug when viewing history

Have used Chronicle for years. Fits my needs and more. Just one thing…I was viewing payment history of one bill and then tapped another bill while in payment history and Chronicle just closes on me. Guess I have to hit the back arrow before I can view payment history on another bill. Otherwise, have been very happy with Chronicle.

Best Bill Organizer Ever!

I’ve had this app since at least 2011 and it has helped me organize, pay, and keep track of payments and confirmation codes. It is extremely easy to use and keeps track of upcoming bills and payments made. Customer service is excellent; any time I have had questions, I receive a response quickly. I highly recommend this app!

Responsive developer

Hi everyone, I’ve used Chronicle for a couple years now.I just wanted to leave a comment here that the developer is very responsive if you have any technical issues.

One recommendation - please provide a way for us to export our bills into Google sheets or Microsoft Excel— thanks!

Almost Perfect

It would be nice if Chronicle would show a little number on it when a bill is almost due. Just like an email app shows when I have unopened emails. It does this only when I open Chronicle . If a bill is almost due… when I close it a little number pops up. It should do this without me having to open it.

Otherwise this is great to use. And at this point I only use the free version.

Great Way to Track of Bills/Payments

I’ve been using this for years and it’s super helpful at keeping track of all your bills and payments in one app! (Review updated after awesome assistance from the developer.)

Great App

I have tried other apps to keep track of paying my bills. This one is by far the best. It is simple and intuitive.

Nope to subscription!

User response to Dev: you say unobtrusive? The whole bottom bar on Chronicle has four icons that are “PRO” use only.

Bought Chronicle and now it’s a yearly subscription. I’m sure the dev will say, “but everything you paid for your receiving”. Yes, that’s true, but every time I click on something in Chronicle I’m reminded of the “PRO” subscription! No thank you, I found another app that’s excellent and moving on.

Simplicity and Functionality meet.

I have been using this app for some time now and have been consistently pleased with Chronicle on both my iPhone and Mac. I have suggested Chronicle to friends and family that want a simple and easy to use method to track bills. This does not replace your traditional methods but enhances it and should be added to you bill organization rotation.

There are many things that this app simply does right. No muss, no fuss UI means that the main purpose of Chronicle is to log and track bills, payments and due dates. Isn’t that all that we really want in a Bill Reminder app; no need for the rainbow of colors and charts. All this serves to do is make a flashy app that tends to fall short in the areas that mean the most.

I do wish that this app added a few features, the most important for me would be a way to export my logs into an excel, numbers, pdf or document format for storing or logging outside of this application. With that said it is a truly functional app that delivers, in a beautifully simply UI.

App keeps crashing

Chronicle keeps crashing when I try to edit the income. Not worth what I paid if it can’t even work properly

Won’t automatically mark bills as paid

I use Chronicle in conjunction with Bills Monitor Because I like the view of Bills Monitor better (it’s so much simpler and less busy) but as a paranoid person I enjoy having a back up app. I only use this to keep myself on track with bills and not to actually integrate with accounts and pay the bills. However, in the past month, all of my bills in Chronicle that are set to pay automatically simply won’t do so. They are all now showing up as 20 days late even though when I click on the bills, they are specifically set to pay automatically.

This is completely ruining the experience for me and rendering Chronicle useless. I can’t delete the bills and re-enter them because then I would lose the entire history of them that I have tracked for the past few years and that is not acceptable. Because all of these allegedly unpaid bills are showing up at the top of my list, I cannot quickly open Chronicle to see when my next actual bill is due.

Within Chronicle , there is no easy way to contact help or support. I am finding a common theme amongst developers where they issue glitchy apps and then make it exceptionally difficult for you to actually communicate with anyone about it. I was actually considering upgrading to the pro version of Chronicle but given the major flaws already and the inability to actually get support, I will not be wasting my money.

Automatic payments not marked as paid

Edit after the developer contacted me: If you have automatic payments that showed as due soon, then fell off your due bills list (because it was automatically paid) before Chronicle had a major update, you now need to go into Settings and make changes in the Automatic Bills section. The text below the two buttons says “If off, automatic bills will not be included in in [sic] the count of due soon bills on badge, and will not be shown in the home screen widget.”
This is confusing because I had both sliders set to what is typically the off section. When I click them, they go green which indicates on. By setting them to green, the “overdue” bill does disappear. But I could absolutely understand someone else reading it the way I did and not toggling them on. I also don’t understand from a customer/UI standpoint why this was added to Settings with no notice as automatic payments behaved just fine before. I would not have known to look there if the developer hadn’t responded.

Like other reviewers, I have a bill that is on automatic payment. Since the last this app update, the bill is marked as auto pay in the settings but is still in the overdue payments section. It should not be. Please fix this. I am very happy with Chronicle otherwise.

Simple, yet Effective!

I cannot express how much Chronicle has changed our lives when it comes to staying on top of bills! I very rarely leave reviews on apps, but after using this one for a couple months, I feel the need to express my opinion. It is a very simple app to keep track of your bills. Nothing fancy. It sends out reminders to me when things are due, I love how everything is color coded, and you can pick icons for each bill! One of my favorite parts is after I log a bill payment saying that I paid a bill, a voice comes on and say “Great Job!” and “Way to go!” 😂😂 Even as an adult, I love the positive words of encouragement for paying my bills! Adulting is hard! Must have app! I even upgraded to the paid version (6 bucks a year) to be able to see the history and track how much I am paying every month in bills. It’s pretty neat and well worth it. Thanks for creating a great app! 😊

GREAT UPDATE!

I was waiting for Apple Watch support and also the Touch ID support for quite some time.
Apple Watch app could be native for faster updating and access which is a slight negative but some progress is better than no progress.
My biggest want for the longest time for the iOS version was getting the Touch ID entry support. This was literally the last app I had that didn’t see that update, it took an entire year to get it, but its here and I love it.
Syncing is clunky at times, however it’s better than nothing. I’ve switched between Dropbox and iCloud frequently because eventually one stops working and there’s really not a notification this has stopped working unless you see that bills you have paid have gone “unpaid” on another version even after restarting Chronicle or hitting the sync button and nothing happens.
Stocking with them though as Chronicle keeps me on top of my bill pay game an works well with my workflow of making sure I don’t fall behind with a payment. Makes that grueling task a little more bearable.

CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT!!

Over the years, I've struggled with organizing all financial obligations. In the past I've used spreadsheets, calendars and numerous apps but could not get a good handle of all my debts. After trying out the this app iOS app... I found it's an app I can't live without!! Entered all my debts and now I see everything coming due. I can now plan my pay periods accordingly. It's been about 6 months now and I haven't missed a bill. Saved me from those late fees! Chronicle works well with my Apple iWatch and macOS app. Syncing is seamless!. All data is sync'd between all my devices. Its also great that you can see the complete history of all your payments and confirmations in case you run into a descrepancy. Had a small issue with the macOS app, but their customer service was quick to resolve my issues. If you have a lot of bills and are having a tough time juggling them, I strongly recommend the this app app!!

Horrible

Was excited to integrate this into my life after reading all the positive reviews. Bought for both Mac and iPhone. Instantly thrown by the inability to add certain bills to the Mac while I could in the iPhone, but I have both apps and the sync worked well enough to use both at once so I kept trying. What killed it for me was trying to add historical payments; it counted as a future payment and reduced the current balance. Plus an annoying vocal "bravo" or something that makes you wish you had been late on a payment rather than hearing that voice! I read the manual for adding historical payments and you have to hold the Option key while pressing Log Payment: It registers as a Partial payment and STILL deducts from Current Balance. Oh, and it will all need to be entered manually, one payment at a time. If I wanted to spend a week trying to tweak it maybe I could get everything sorted but I'd always wonder if it was going to mess things up. Ultimately I wanted this to simplify my life but it's just going to complicate and frustrate. I may as well stick with the banks lousy system - it will be more reliable and less work than this. I give up.

What am I doing wrong? I can’t get chronicle to “accept” the amount paid. It changes itself to $1.
