WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm purports to have an "over-the-air" feature where you can access broadcast content in real time. That's also what was said in the promo which aired many times on the lead up to Hurricane Irma. Part of the pitch was that if you download WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm you can watch on a personal device even after the power goes out.

On opening it you are, in fact, presented with a YouTube-style video interface which says something like "WATCH LIVE." This is complete bunk! When the video finally loaded what we saw was from four hours earlier (per WPTV's own time display at the screen's bottom right). What's more there was no slider to advance or rewind the video.

I tried it again this morning when there were no threatening conditions and much less demand, one would think. Same results, except now the delay was over twelve hours! Full disclosure - No other station has anything better to offer.

What really burns me is how all these stations represent themselves as the most up-to-date, tech savvy operation in the market, when in fact even the engineers and IT guys are every bit as amateurish as the beginner reporters they foist on us.

Do not waste your time! Especially when it really counts. Like in the teeth of a bad storm.

I started using WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm during the beginning of the Covid pandemic when most of the TV news was overwhelming to watch the explosion of sickness and death. WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm enables me to scan the headlines and read what I choose. And it has news often I’m unable to find anywhere else easily. Thank you for a great app!

We follow the station locally for news and weather information. WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm is similar to the actual TV station, meaning it is predictably good. WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm loads quickly and has the basic information I need for news and weather.

If you follow what is going on in Palm Beach county, the WPTV app is a trusted source that does not have some of the sensationalism other outlets have. WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm consistently works well.

After all this time the “X” in the top left corner of every article still doesn’t work for my always updated iPhone. Nor does the article disappear if I swipe down. There is no “up” arrow for the articles so when I reach the bottom, I don’t have to scroll forever back to the top in order to press the “X” a random # of times before it finally catches. Fix all of those functionality issues and WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm is 5 star, but at this stage it should work much, much better.

It’s a great app, the notifications aren’t annoying like other apps at all.
I get all important information early, I’ve even received a few ahead of CNN’s app before they sent out the notification!

Today it's extremely Republican... it has become just one political article after another disguised as "news". Even the simplest of things is phrased as partisan, with frequent articles praising surveillance and law enforcement -- to the point that we should treat convicted criminals who worked in law enforcement differently. Soooo many articles about combating homelessness (by driving them out), and non-citizen employment (by promoting harsh laws and penalties along with jails and employer penalties).

You can keep your fascism, it's disgusting. I'm sad that the party I once considered legitimate has been corrupted to these hate-preaching fearmongering extremists.

I have lived in PBC since 1961, have watched News 5 my whole life, have driven a tractor trailer in So. Fla for 27 years all in So. Fla the people of our Area have no idea what it takes to deliver to our gas stations, grocery stores and big time businesses, I am disappointed in the a—hole you put on the 6 o’clock news about the overturned tanker, I would like to see him do a better job, please consider your viewers when you put BS like that on the news. I started using WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm when Comcast was under repair for 7 days. I Was able to always watch my fav morning news. I can always count on it. It’s xfinity that’s not reliable.
I also like the screen alerts, sometimes there’s a lot but so far not too bad. Keep up the good work Guys 👍🏼

WPTV is my favorite channel/app. They’re always right on point, and the weather is always spot on as well. And then the news anchors are extremely personable and friendly and upbeat. Love them all around! WPTV is my only source for news and weather, and I plan on keeping it that way!!😁

I like that I can swipe through to the next story without having to go back to the home screen. Also like that once you've read a story the headline is a lighter color. Seems to be more stable too and video loads faster. The best news app in West Palm Beach.

Aside from some valuable emergency news every once in a while, WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm is riddled with click-bait links (Outbrain et al) that take over 50 “next page” clicks to get to the headline of interest. This is not news and delegitimizes WPTV5 as a news outlet. Also some of the pop-up notifications do not link you directly to the news you want and drop you in the main page for you to find the news of interest. Clean it up guys. It is good to have local news but not like this. Deleting WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm .

Now they’re offering us some sort of premium service. They can’t even get the free part right. This latest update brings blurry thumbnails, you have to scroll up then scroll back down for the picture to clear. It’s all biased media anyway. I learned a long time ago to weed out the BS from the real, so as far as local news goes, I get the truth. The rest of it is just CNN’s opinion. Thank the Clintons for deregulating the media... funny how that didn’t work out for Hillary. Guess we’re not as stupid as they think!

Love WPTV but WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm could really use work! Have had it since it came out and followed up with updates. Now crashes constantly half way through scrolling along with way too much strategically placed click bait. Also some editor's errors here and there that put a damper on the WPTV reputation. Nonetheless, WPTV still remains my go to...would just be much less frustrating if app could be improved!

I am fairly new to the state, and am thrilled to find a local station I can enjoy. The news app keeps me up to date on issues here. When I travel or can’t watch live, I count on WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm. Glad It’s offered!

Quick information ready on your hands especially the weather!!

Great app for local news/weather/etc for palm beach county and the treasure coast in south Florida. Minimal ads and just the content you need to see to be quickly informed. Great weather section and even special sections for entertainment and business which I have found very informative.

Let's me know traffic and weather with notifications right to my phone. I don't have to worry about remember to check because it automatically alerts me with the latest and updated information. Very useful and handy!

App force closes now after latest update. I am not receiving any pushed notifications about news. Awful! Thinking about going to rival news’ app. Used to be a great app but now it doesn’t work and is taking up space. So long? I hope not!

I’ve had WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm for a long time and use it every day. I’m mostly very happy with the info provided. My one complaint is the articles need to be updated more often. A story from two days ago is no longer news. Thank you.

Love the layout of the ch. 5 app. I can scan thru the stories fast and videos do not automatically play unless you want to.
Easy to forward articles I want to share. This is the only news app I keep on my iPad and enjoy reading every day.

I’m not one to watch a lot of news, however I like to know what’s happening on my community, Country, and the world. With WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm I can check out the news whenever and wherever I please. Easy to navigate and has the “personality”of the WPTV team!

So far it is an easy to use, effective local news app.
The ads can be boring and frustrating when in a rush, but there are other apps much much worse with respect to ads preceding a video.

I find WPTVNewsChannel5WestPalm helpful when
I can actually see the push notification send to my IPAD. The only thing
I would do is keep the notifications on the screen longer so that I can read it.
