Core functionality is there but always disappointed

I’ve been using JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog for a few years and while it does the key basic need for me, tracking and organizing my lifts, it leaves me frustrated over something new every time I use it. They update and changing JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog frequently which is great but each iteration seems to lose something or make something less intuitive. More and more pop up prompts are added each time, asking you to make more and more decisions before you can actually get to the reason you opened JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog , exercising. The set counters were removed from the training outline page so you can’t see how much you’ve done at a glance anymore. Inputting your weight and reps has become more convoluted, resetting itself each time to a less intuitive scroller option instead of just using the keyboard, which was fine. The graph to track your progress makes no sense either. When I want to see graphs of my progress I have to take this data and put it elsewhere, there is no easy and intuitive way to see my weight progress on one specific exercise in a clear linear graph.

There are many other little things that have changed for the worse since I started paying for JEFIT but these are the ones that smack me in the face every day. There is a lot of good in JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog however and I just wish they asked users what they like/dislike or need/don’t need so they can avoid bloat and keep JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog tight.

Good app but deleted all my logs

I really like JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog . It keeps track of everything I do during my workouts and I like the rest timer feature. I've been using it since February and it's worked great. Until today. Today I noticed that the logs haven't been syncing with my online account since April. It's not a feature I normally use but I wanted to check something on the website. The problem was that JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog wasn't logged in properly to my account and it wouldn't let me login again, instead instructing me to logout first. Once I did, it was able to log back in successfully but now all my workouts that hadn't synced are gone with no apparent way of retrieving them. I workout 3-4 times a week so that's about 70 sessions that I no longer have a record of. I'm going to keep using JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog but I think there shouldn't be such an emphasis on the cloud. Or at least be able to save the data first to your phone before deleting it. On another note, I'd also like a feature to distinguish reps for each arm/leg for single arm/leg exercises. My right arm is stronger and sometimes I can't match the same amount of reps on my left. It's not often that that happens but it'd be nice to have a way to note that.

App has a lot of bugs and problems with apple health

90% of the time the first set isn't saved. Even with fresh app start and phone reset, after starting workout i would have to save my first set, exit the exercise to see if it saved the first set (usually not saved), and then start the exercise again to have it properly save it. This needs to be fixed.

Another problem is that you need to MANUALLY select sync to Apple health every time you finish a workout or else there appears to be no way to sync your workout time to Apple health after you save. If you forget to click "sync to Apple health) after the finish workout screen, you're out of luck. There needs to be a way to default syncing or manually resync later.

Lastly, if you forget to click "finish workout," next time you login it will say a workout cannot last longer than for hours. This is fine, but it will actually log the ENTIRE TIME since you last opened JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog . This results in 70+ hr workouts being logged (and if you remember to click sync, a correspondingly long workout being logged in Apple health). This needs to be fixed. Perhaps allow manual changing of workout time or automatically end workout after a user defined time out.

Best out! I always come back

I found JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog years ago, just needed a something to keep track rather than the ol paper and pencil. And I have always worked out pretty regularly, but I have fallen in and out of being serious. JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is not only free, but better than most apps you pay for. This is most customable app, most exercise and variations. Great community and reward program. Most other apps I have tried, (and I have tried a lot) tend to ask super generic questions then push you into its own routine. Or the customization is limited and has preset days/ limit to muscle groups. Isn’t a “free app” for only three workout. Everytime I try another app, I always kick my self for doing it. JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog lets you save all your workout routines... so you can switch specialization phases or bulkin/ cutting, etc.. The progress tracker is insane! And detailed! On top of all that, they never settle and keep upgrading and adding exercises with awesome tech support.

Great app, questionable changes

I think JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is great. It's always been my go to app for tracking workouts and I have stuck with it for a few years now. Has pretty much everything I want/need. I'm a little disappointed in the new update. For starters, the new timer seems rather intrusive. It's not bad intuitive to minimize it as it was before. Also, although a minor annoyance, I don't like how you can no longer adjust the weight for the upcoming set while the timer is running. At least not by scrolling..you now have to type it in. Something minor, but it was convenient/a feature I found beneficial. Along the same lines, once you finish the last set for an exercise, the screen no longer advances to the next exercise while the timer is running. Again, not a big issue or deal breaker, but more of an inconvenience. I felt like that functionality helped you see what's up next better to prepare/make adjustments. Otherwise, I'm still satisfied with JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog and don't see myself looking for something else because of this.

Amazing!!

JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog has what every bodybuilders want. Type in what body part you want to work out and pick any of the machines or weights you have access to and it will give you many options for the muscle and machine. You can also save many workouts that you have. For example you want to work out arms? Pick the day and see many options for your arms you have it’s that simple! It also has a rest timer so you can rest between sets. JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog also has many other bodybuilding that you can have as friends and post your workouts to other friends. If your tying to find the best bodybuilding app try this one. I’m been using the free version of JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog and it’s actually very good and useful. There are ads in the free version of JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog but they are not ads that are annoying and keep popping up. You can use the free app until want want to upgrade to full member. Recommended to anyone who’s wants to get in good shape.

Almost perfect , missing some key features

Let me start out by saying that I LOVE JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog. It’s the perfect gym companion , and I love the ability to track my workouts , and create different routines.

One of my favorite feature is the ability to add a custom workout, however, this feature would be SO much better with the ability to add pictures or videos to these, much like the built-in workouts. Sometimes I come across a unique move that I’m afraid I won’t remember if I don’t add the visual to go with it.

Also, there is a glitch with the super-set feature. When I link two workouts together as a superset, and I just completed the second/last one in a set, the rest timer shows the exercise I just completed as “next” rather than the exercise that actually should be the next one in the set.

Finally, the ability to complete HIIT workouts with JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is a little lacking. The interval timer is great, but I don’t like how it defaults to 60 seconds with no ability to change it. For example , I have a set of 4 workouts linked together to perform HIIT style, for rounds of 40 seconds each. For each round, I have to manually change the interval timer from 60 to 40, which gets real annoying when I’m just trying to be in give flow of my workout.

That’s about it, everything else is perfect ! Thanks for such a great app !!

Great app - couple of issues

Been using JEFIT for years and it’s great! With that said, I have one small issue and one that is more problematic. The first is the rest timer. For years, when the timer reached four it would start to beep, now I get beeping on four and between numbers, almost like an echo. And it doesn’t matter if it’s Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth speakers, iPad speaker or iPhone speaker. Just curious if something can be done about this.
The second is the session timer. For the last three days, the next morning when I open JEFIT, it says the session was too long (hundreds of minutes). Not sure why the sessions are continuing after I’m done. Once I “Save and Share”, I always review my workout to make sure any changes were correct. And at that time, my workout session time is correct and ended. Not sure if others have had this issue, but lately the session timer is kind of worthless if it’s way off.

6 years with this app and it just keep improving!

So I love JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog. I’m 42 and have tried every new exercise app that comes out and I always feel they are lacking compared to Jefit. You can search their workouts or user created ones. Then you can change those to create your own. I’ve been using them for about six years now and it helped me recover from rotator cuff surgery about 3 years ago.
The only missing element was just added and I LOVE IT! All these apps have one flaw, there may sometimes be an exercise that isn’t in the database. I’ve been with Golds, planet fitness, YMCA, lifetimes, 24 hours, la, and they all sometimes have a weird machine that you can’t use cause you can’t track. no more; Jefit added CUSTOM WORKOUT! you name it, add in images, add in reps or time based, pictures of exercise and integrate any exercise into your routine! No more trying any other apps I’m set.

Awesome app - been using it for 9 years

Great app, I've been using it consistently for 9 years. Primarily for lifting, but lately I started in my cardio too.

Some things I would like to see added:
- allow notes for each individual workout log. For example when you go “running”, and input a workout, it would be nice to be able to add a note tied to that specific workout. I know you can add a note under the notes section, but I want to be able to see which workout that note was for. For example, I could input my data “5 miles, 37 minutes, etc” but also add a note tied to that workout
- calculate my pace for a run when I input my distance and time
- when creating a custom workout, please allow me to create an aerobic workout without forcing me to select “cardio” as the record type. I would like select “reps and interval/duration” as the record type. For example, I like doing sprints on the rower, and “reps and interval/duration” would be perfect because I could add my distance rowed as my reps, and the time it took me to row it as the duration. Same goes for doing sprints on the Jacobs Ladder or the ski erg.

Overall, love JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog . Appreciate you guys!

Very user input intensive

Could be 5 star with some easy fixes, but I’m constantly having to input data to make this work and even still it often puts the wrong thing (what it suggested from a previous workout with different rep amounts). This is incredibly annoying in the middle of my workouts. If you try to put your next sets at the proper numbers and then leave that screen for any reason before they’re logged as complete, it resets all the data. It is also very bad about pushing the numbers to your next set after you log the first set. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.

It should also base the rest period off my profile set rest number. I don’t have time for 120 seconds rest so I halve them all one at a time. Would be nice if there was a way to divide all by 2 at once so 120 becomes 60, 90 becomes 45, etc. I use premium workouts that are already set up.

Pros: my ensuing rage at JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog pushes me to work harder than I would have before.

Great app, little buggy

I’ve been using JEFIT since about 2012, and at first loved that it was a simple no frills way to keep track of routines, reps, sets and weight progression. The features that have been added over the years are probably very useful to some, but it has been at the expense of functionality elsewhere. The interval timer no longer makes an audio cue when it’s finished, causing me to stop exercising to check it frequently. And flat out forget trying to use the watch app. Over the course of three phones and two watches I’ve never been able to make it work.

I’m sticking with JEFIT for now, since it has literally 9 years of workout data for me, but I’m not a serious lifter or “gym-rat” if you will. I just need something that keeps track of my routine, interval timer, rest timer and history. Everything else is superfluous for me.

Please develop watch app

This is a great iPhone app. I’ve been using it for about a year and a half, and it has been great to track my progress in the gym. It is easy to use, has great built-in workouts that can be downloaded and is easy to add custom workouts as well.

The downside- the watch app. I just bought a Series 3 watch, hoping I could leave my phone in my locker at the gym, but as of now the watch app is not stand alone. Please, please, please work on developing Jefit for Watch. The Apple Watch has many great built-in cardio apps, but there is nothing that tracks weightlifting. Since Jefit is the best weightlifting app for iPhone, it also needs to be for Apple Watch.

Please develop- even if only one workout program is available, or if it needs to take up Watch hard drive space, that is fine too. I’m just tired of holding on to my phone throughout the gym every day.

Great free work out app

I’ve been lifting weights 3-7 days a week for over 10 years. I’ve been looking for something different to do and my brother in law recommended JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog. It’s been a nice change for me and I like that I work every muscle group twice a week. However, I have to look ahead and change the workouts (substitute some moves, add in a bunch). It will neglect to hit certain parts of certain muscles. For example, for the chest workout it only had me doing 2 different moves for my chest, 5 sets each but it didn’t have me doing anything to engage my upper chest. And I’ve had to do that for every workout. So as for a training tool, it’s great. But I wouldn’t recommend following it as is. I also wish that you could put in what equipment you have to eliminate some substitutions and narrow down your searches when you are scrolling through looking for moves to add.

Perfect Lifting App & Tracker for Me

JEFIT is an easy to use application with a wide variety of exercises. Whether you’re using equipment, free weights, or body weight, there is what seems to be an unending list of exercises to choose from with straightforward visuals on how to correctly perform them as well as muscle groups worked. I only use the free version and I’m more than satisfied. There are a number of programs you can start as well. I’m currently using “lifting for weight loss” and I’m quite happy with it. There’s room for editing within the set programs as well (I’ve added quite a few more exercises to each of my 3 days, as well as another day). I don’t use the community or challenges feature so I cannot comment on how well that works. I’m satisfied with just lifting. Try it out!

Best app I've seen so far

It took me a little while to get used to the user interface but JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is very versatile in letting you build the perfect workout with every exercise that you want to include in your sets. It's also the best I've seen for tracking strength progress which is important and many other apps don't do well (you can see what your reps and weight amounts were from the previous week as well as go back to your whole calendar of old logs). I just wish the search feature for adding exercises was better. I had to type in various slight different names of certain exercises before they finally popped up and I could add them to my routine when I first got JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog . Other than that, it's amazing

Keep up with the times, devs!

Update: Thank you for getting back to me, dev. I should have prefaced this review with the fact that I was using the Jefit "Pro" app, which I paid the one-time payment. It wasn't listed in JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog Store so I left my review on JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog version. Apparently the "Pro" is considered a "legacy" version (Read: Not as lucrative as subscription-based apps so we 86'ed it).
The ubiquitous "subscription" app models have seemed to replace the "pay-once" apps.
Fortunately I was able to migrate my "Pro" status to this newer version.
The only qualms I have about this newer version is it doesn't log the last set of the last exercise of a group. I have to manually tap the check mark beside the last set. I have notified the devs. Once that has been rectified I'll give it five stars.

I've used JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog for years. I like the ability to have default reps and sets (I don't utilize the rest timer), and the ability to just tap on a workout to start it in lieu of pressing the green bar at the bottom. The rewards for upping your reps or weight is a nice touch as well.
However, not having the ability to add your own exercise to the list is quite irksome now that I've been using a Total Gym. Fitlist, Gym Hero Pro, and many others offer that feature.

Exactly what I was looking for!!!

JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is AMAZING for amateurs, pros, and workout addicts alike! Before finding JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog, I had the intention of working out for SO long, but alas, just like most of America, my procrastination got the better of me. Upon finding JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog, however, I was easily able to set up a workout schedule and setup which days I wanted to work on a certain part of my body. JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog itself is so easy to navigate, and with the thousands of selections of workouts that they have available (with visuals too!), you’ll be able to make your perfect workout schedule and get into shape! If you’re looking for the perfect free workout companion app, look no further my friend. You have found it.

Almost perfect.

I’ve been using JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog since November and I think it’s pretty solid. I had been using another app before that I loved, except it didn’t have the ability to create custom exercises, and the developers said they had no intention of adding that capability any time soon. So even though I had 100+ workouts logged, I cancelled that subscription and switched to JEFIT.

I do wish JEFIT would differentiate between quads, hamstrings, and glutes, instead of just using “thigh” and “glutes.” I would like to search hamstring specific workouts instead of having scroll through all the “thigh” and “glute” workouts.

One other great thing would be the ability to have JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog generate a workout based on what muscle groups you wanted to work out. Like, for example, select “back” and “biceps” and it would generate a workout based on those. This was my favorite feature from my last app. I currently use the free version of but I would pay for the subscription without a second thought if this feature was added. 😬

JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is still really great, and I’ve tried almost all of the ones available (strong, fitbod, shred, iron train, fitlist, stronglifts 5x5) and JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is the most complete.

I wish one thing

I love JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog . It has a massive inventory of exercises so I can actually track my full workout. I enjoy the premium features as well. The 1 rep max calculation gives me a good baseline of what my next PR should be. I am very active and track most of my workouts though Jefit. My BIGGEST problem with JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is that it is not yet compatible with Apple health. This is a major let down for me. Prior when I was using the StrongLifts app it was compatible and allowed me to track how many calories I burn and also use it I conjunction with other apps to track my macros. However because JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog isn't compatible Apple Health, I have to track my exercises in another app just to accurately track everything. For the next update please let me on Apple Health compatibility.

GUI looks different/Lost Screen Lock

Hey. So JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog continues to improve, which is great. Couple concerns (not necessarily complaints)...
1. My GUI (within the individual exercise screen) looks very different from what I see depicted in both JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog Store and your website. Seems updated. Is this a beta version you’re testing? So far, I do see how you’ve integrated *adding addt’l sets* option into the main exercise screen, and put previous log records into the current weight/rep fields; seems to work out so far. I also like being able to slide to other exercises from the top of the screen w/o extra navigation as before. So is this the new look? Or just a beta version to see how ppl react?

2. Did you take out the “lock screen” button? That button was very useful. It now seems to lock automatically during the rest clock (which it uses to do in the distant past), but I can’t tell if it locks any other time - which the “screen lock” button allowed me to do when it was convenient. (Also, I really like the new clock’s look and ‘swipe down/low profile’ option which allows me to use other parts of JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog while still tracking my rest time. I saw immediate benefits with that.)

Great app but I’m hesitant to update

I’ve been using JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog since it came out.

That said. Despite this being my favorite workout out apps that I always recommend to people. Lately, there is a cycle of updates that fix bugs, but also introduce worse bugs than the ones the update fixed.

For people that are serious about fitness that’s a little disheartening. When I workout I want to workout, not fight against bugs and a broken app. As a developer, I also know that bugs are going to happen, but some of these bugs are so obvious I can’t see how testing didn’t catch them.

With the latest update JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog seems to be pretty solid again.

One issue I do have is using the phone app combined with watch app. IPhone XS Max and series 4 non cellular watch for reference.

When you log a set with the watch you’d expect to see the rest timer counting down to your next set. 9/10 the log button appears as if it’s performing no action, yet when you open the phone app you’ll see the timer is actually counting down.

Also, often when you log a set on the phone, you never get a notification on the watch that your rest is over.

Keep up the good work but please do more tests before releasing updates.

Terrible functionality

UPDATED REVIEW: For everyone, don’t be fooled by the average 5-star review (assuming they’re even real), the developer review replies or the numerous recent updates. The developers have simply ruined JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog by adding lots of unnecessary layers and confusing clicks. You’ll see a bunch of “we hear you and promise our latest updates will fix everything!!” from the devs, it’s all garbage. As soon as I find a new app that lets me do the following with the least clicks — pick an exercise, enter weight/reps, finish — and does so without badgering me on “are you now done with your workout? Great workout ending regardless” [app quits while you’re pulling your hair out], then I’m done for good with JEFIT.

JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog has been ok for years to track basic lifting metrics. For some awful reason though, the latest update introduced numerous layers of clicks and confusing prompts. You get presented with nonsensical choices that read like “continue workout or remain exercising?” and similar bizarre pop ups. Next thing you know JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog goes all “great workout goodbye!” even though you’ve only done one set. Would be happy to find an alternative.

Get this if you need motivation to go work out!!!!

I love JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog. JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog great for people like me who workout alone/with a friend. It has a huge database of different exercises and which muscle groups they work. What I found extremely useful was the preset workouts. I used to go to the gym 1-3 times a week, always doing the same workouts, but with JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog, you can learn so many other exercises!! It tracks what you do, and I feel myself SOOOO much more motivated to work out. I only with they showed more in depth on how to do certain exercises, or allowed you to track your “off time” in between sets. All in all, JEFITWorkoutPlannerGymLog is all you can want/need from a fitness lifting app.
