About Castlerama

In order to have the app run on all devices, we had to compromise quite a bit, pushing the old devices to their limits (risking crash if other applications are left running) while keeping the new devices well behind their capabilities.

While developing Castlerama, we had to face the fact that newer devices such as iPhone4s and iPad2s are very different from their predecessors, iPhone3GSs and iPads, in that the former have twice as much memory.

Merging real and imaginary elements, it draws inspiration from the charming town of Assisi, in Italy.

Castlerama takes you on a photorealistic walk through a beautiful, detailed and accurately lit 3D setting.

Exploring a whole world becomes a matter of lifting your fingers.

Our goal? To fool your eyes and brain considering it all real.

You are left to find your own way around by touch and sight alone.

Update it please!

Just like the description says, my memory of walking through this city has stayed with me for almost 10 years. It feels like a dream.

I wish I could walk those dimly lit cobblestone streets again, feel the peaceful solitude, listen to the sounds and music, and say hi to the cow (or horse?) in the barn. I remember looking out at the field in the cold, dawn light. The quiet square felt like it would soon be filled with people, but for a moment paused in time, it was yours to explore.

I would like to go back :,)

Okay

I just downloaded Castlerama because I love architecture and thought this would be cool. I read the reviews, and it sounded like an okay app and there were slim to none problems. But when I tried to open it, it brought me back to where the home screen was. I am giving Castlerama three stars because if it opened for me I would love it I played it on my friends phone. I will give it a couple more tried because I really enjoy this. Who knows, maybe it's me.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Awesome!

Download Castlerama and enter into another world. Fabulous graphics, hypnotic sound track, hidden nooks and crannies, Castlerama has it all. Beautiful, serene. Stunning. Wait until you crawl deep into a tunnel, with human skulls and long forgotten statues, and find the key to the church. Be sure to download Castlerama and anything else by unreal engine and coderama. Two thumbs up.

Stunning

Beautiful environment.
No crashing at all for me. Maybe too much for older devices to handle?
Beautiful update. Love it.

Update App

I know the odds to get this game/demo updated are low, but the scenery, architecture, and music was amazing.

Ehh...

It is good but is small and a promotion for return to this app.

Good enough... I suppose.

Castlerama looked very promising before I got, and it was- but I still was slightly disappointed. The lighting is too dark, so you should probably have the sun come out, maybe even a day/night cycle. I also hoped there would be more to explore than Epic Citadel, but I was highly dissapointed- only the town square, church, stable, and catacombs- embarrassingly small. I was done exploring in less than five minutes! I really like the animals in the fields , but the horse's neck looked splotchy because of bad lighting. I also saw the "hug the wall" in the catacombs glitch- annoying. I still recommend Castlerama, though, because of the amazing graphics. It also has good pricing- free (all tech demos should be free). But Epic Citadel is still better.

Going places...

Castlerama shows the technology is really going places. Amazing what you have shrunk down to iPhone size in fully rendered graphics.

Some constructive comments. The swipe control felt backwards. When I pull from L to R I expect to turn L. But you can make an easy toggle option for that. Similarly I expected to be able to pinch in and out for zoom. May even add an option to control direction using the accelerometer. Like in Jenga.

Overall beautiful graphics and music. Felt like I was walking through Myst.

9.0/10 Amazing

Ok read first,
This game is deep and it make you feel loney.
This game makes you explore a dark village.
But this game isn't great yet, it has issues when it loads an area, it lags a little, it's not a bad thing but it takes some fun out of the experience, I have experienced a black screen before.
This game make you explore a village with no life which makes this game good but it lacks loading screens, lag, and black screens. But this is a must play if you want a unforgettable game. I love every moment of it. That's why I gave it a 9.0/10

Crashes on startup

Nevermind. Castlerama deserves so much more. you have to reboot your idevice completely before you start this app. If you don't do that, your idevice will run out of memory and Castlerama will crash. That is because so many other apps that you opened beforehand take up the memory on your idevice, restricting the amount this app can use, which causes it to crash.

BTW, ALL 2G IDEVICES AND BELOW. CANNOT RUN Castlerama. THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH MEMORY OR PROCESSING SPEED AND THEREFORE WILL CRASH NO MATTER WHAT.

This is a great app! I Just wish there was more to explore, and that you could open more doors

Absolutely Gorgeous

this app is a beautiful environment that I can't stop exploring. Seriously, this is really cool. It's not huge, and you can only really explore the open areas of the town, the church, and the catacombs (although if you hug the right wall on the way down to the catacombs a mildly amusing bug will become apparent). Even though it's small, Castlerama is free - so it's more than worth the download. Honestly, it makes me hungry for a Myst-like experience in this virtual world, and I'm excited to see where this developer takes the Unreal engine.

Works fine on my 3Gs

The light is a bit dark. I see nice screen shots on the sample pictures but it's hard to locate them. I had to give up on searching after sometime of not finding them. Hope to see an update soon. It takes up too much space just to have you walk around with nothing to do.

The graphics were nice for an iPhone/iPad app. I love Unreal Engine Technology since way back on Unreal Tournament on Dreamcast.

Hope to see an update soon.

Pretty disappointing

The idea behind this app is enticing. A virtual tour of a "real" castle rendered in the Unreal engine? Sign me up.

Unfortunately, the 'tour' portion of Castlerama is only a visual journey through a few small areas in the castle. I would've liked to learn about the castle rather than viewing it with no prior knowledge of the location which it's apparently based off of. It would've been a nice touch to scatter some information booths around the castle, just like they have in a real museum. Or better yet, an optional virtual tour guide to show you the different parts of the castle.

I was very disappointed with Castlerama. The scope is very limited and the developers did not put any effort into it besides the gorgeous visuals. I understand that it's not supposed to be a game, but if you're advertising a virtual tour, I would expect some obvious additions (information about the castle, a tour guide, etc.)

If you're planning to make more of these apps, I suggest you keep my suggestions in mind.

Amazing and worth a look

An amazing example of the capabilities that the iOS devices can achieve. 2nd to Epic Citadel, this application shows room for improvement but still worth the time to explore; especially the catacombs.

However, there needs to be slight improvement in lighting in certain areas such as by the horses and especially in the chapel. I had no idea you could enter it until I noticed pictures on Castlerama site. Perhaps a torch or light over the door would help. It is still amazing.

A pretty good "brainchild"

Castlerama is the developers showing the talent of making a good app. The graphics are very good and the map is very well laid out. If you are looking for a game this is not a game it is a Photorealistic tour (as they make clear in the beginning of Castlerama start up). I gave it 4 stars because when the user uses both analogue buttons there is a slight lag. Also the map is somewhat small and dark, but other than those problems a very good app.

I would pay for...

Flash light
Random Ghost or Demons
More to explore
This would be an awesome haunted castle with scary stuff that randomly appears. No story no puzzles just you a flash light and demons. Like the kind that if you stalk from a distance you live but if you try to attack or harass they kill you. Even add like a photo option for catching them on camera and sending it to game center for view and ranking by the world. Random, Scary, Evil.... I would pay.

Works fine

1. The people who are writing bs about how this program doesn't work are wrong. I am running an iPhone 4 and it works without a problem.
2. I'm kinda a tech geek and can appreciate the huge amount of work it must have taken to make this program work. It pushes the graphics farther than any other app I've used.
3. Great concept, I'd like to see it used in future products. Well done.

I like it. Lighting a problem.

Sure, this is a bit boring, but this is a good start for a popular 3D Maze, or search and find kind of game. However. The lighting, I found, was a big problem. I could barely see where I was going. In conclusion, with a goal, better lighting, and couple of hidden trapdoors and the such, I'd be willing to pay at LEAST 0.99. Bravo.
