Lifesaver

I have dietary fructose malabsorption and FoodIntolerances ’s been a big help in three ways:

1) The obvious way; when I come across a new food or want to look something up, it’s great having a convenient trusted source (and one that keeps comments)

2) What I can and can’t eat is pretty complicated and I don’t expect others to keep up with it. This can lead to some problems when others cook though - I don’t want to refuse my in-law’s Christmas dinner or seem difficult. They’ve downloaded FoodIntolerances now too and it’s easy for them to make sure there’s something I can eat (especially since they only need to think about my weird restrictions occasionally).

3) Fructose malabsorption isn’t especially well known - FoodIntolerances can be nice for establishing a bit of credit when I need to tell someone about my restrictions (“good odds he’s not entirely making this up”).

Thanks for the great app. Has definitely been a quality of life improvement.

Nice app but disagree with some foods

It’s nicely organized, and I like the shopping list. The descriptions of different studies in things like bananas and avocados and peanuts is great, I love being informed to make my own choices.

But the colors of “danger” level are clearly subjective. You NEED to read the actual description, not just avoid every food that’s yellow, orange or red. Example: labeling “polenta” as VERY HIGH in histamine is disingenuous. They explain it’s because it’s “usually made with Parmesan”. Uh maybe some recipes? But that doesn’t mean polenta itself is high in them.

You also need to update your MSG guidance. “Chinese restaurant syndrome” as you call it is founded in racism and not science.

The Best

I have many food intolerances and found so much conflicting information online I was frustrated. I thought I would have to create my own spreadsheet to sort it all out. I purchased several other apps that were a complete waste of money. Then I found this one. It has everything thing I need to determine safe foods.
It is well researched, has extensive notes about individual foods, easy to use format.
Just buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome app!!

This is an awesome app! I just started embarking on a low histamine diet as well as no gluten, no dairy, and no yeast. FoodIntolerances allows you to put all those filters in and to which degree you’re sensitive to it as well. Then it rates everything by color to make it easy. And you can click on a food to read the details about how much histamine it has and if it’s a histamine liberator. Some of the foods also have a little history on them health-wise. This is great for MCAS or HIT and food intolerances!

Very Helpful

Great for planning meals at home and for eating out especially. Love the way you can sort foods by your particular intolerance. Really well designed. Lots of detailed notes on each food explaining things to watch out for and be aware of. Definitely the most helpful app for food intolerances of all sorts, and especially good for situations where you aren’t sure what is bothering you and want to try more than one elimination diet. Lets you do it all with one app! Thanks for a great tool.

Extremely helpful!

FoodIntolerances has helped so much. Finding out I have intolerances was really overwhelming and I felt like I couldn’t figure out what to eat without help. FoodIntolerances helps me tremendously and I reference it all the time. Without it, I’d be struggling to figure out what my triggers were and what I can eat. I recommend FoodIntolerances for anyone who has food allergies and/or intolerances.

It's a start

I can't find the part that explains what "ASA" means, and the foods are rather unorthodox to an American palate (ostrich?). But I still reco it bc it helps keep a lot of info straight when your dining out or grocery shopping. Also - can we add our own foods ? That would solve some of that issue of unusual foods. UPDATE: I can't seem to update FoodIntolerances - anyone else having this problem? All my other apps are updating just fine...

The best app I’ve found for MCAS and food sensitivities

As someone who has struggled with adverse reactions from histamine, salicylates and FODMAPs, FoodIntolerances have been a godsend for me. I have books and lists, but FoodIntolerances helps me quickly and efficiently search ingredients and foods so I can make better decisions about what I eat and is helping me as I slowly reintroduce foods.

Saved my life

Thank you for making FoodIntolerances my life was a disaster looking online item after item and write them on paper and all the hard time I’ve been through, thank you for doing this and you earned every penny i spent on FoodIntolerances, thank you so much.

Love this app

I am so happy to have found FoodIntolerances. It is extremely helpful and informative. My only complaint is there needs to be a much larger food database especially when adding recipes. Also more “everyday” foods. Then I would give 5 stars.

All in one for food related health

I've had FoodIntolerances for five minutes and already love it. I took about three minutes to decide to go all in with Pro and Nutrition. It really has it all and in a neat and tidy package. When your on a low histamine, low FODMAP, low calorie diet this is a lifesaver!

Lifesaver!!

FoodIntolerances has been so helpful in managing my various food allergies & sensitivities; life and the chore of eating has become easier since I downloaded it a few years ago…thank you so much for being here!

Not trustworthy?

I’ve been diagnosed with fructose malabsorption. Two of the main problems with this intolerance are onion and garlic, but FoodIntolerances says those are in the green area and fine to eat. That’s not true for me and it makes me believe FoodIntolerances is not reliable. When I went to email them through FoodIntolerances I got a pop up saying email was not available. I may try to get my money back from apple directly, as I can’t trust the info on here.

No way to report errors? Re: Olive Oil is very high in Salicylate according to many sources.

Would rate it much higher but FoodIntolerances says that olive oil is low in Salicylate which most articles online say is actually very high. Many people get sick from olive oil. If the programmers fixed that error, had a way for us to submit a report, or would explain why they think it is not high, I would change my rating. Hope that this is the only possible mistake.

Was not what I expected

I thought I was going to submit what I ate, and it would let me know what’s in the ingredients...not the case.

I’m giving a 4 because the information for each item is useful...but not in the way that I needed it. Inexpensive for an oopsie and perfectly priced for the useful :)

Very helpful!

Edit: I forgot to mention how helpful it is to have all the info re the different intolerances. I’ve learned a lot thru FoodIntolerances.

FoodIntolerances has been very helpful as we have been learning about and trying to navigate multiple food intolerances. Thanks!

So helpful

I use FoodIntolerances several times every day. It’s indispensable in figuring out what I’m able to eat without distress. I set the filters to my specific issues.

Good app, but why does it cost more?

When FoodIntolerances already costs $4.99 in FoodIntolerances Store, why are you charging for the nutrient information additionally? You really shouldn’t charge more for that information. FoodIntolerances doesn’t contain enough useful information to warrant the price —then the addition of some nutrients doesn’t really warrant an extra fee.

Great Food App - helps me daily

This is a wonderful app. The information and reference links are extensive.

I like it’s flexibility to tailor to my specific needs. I set it up to track FODMAPS, gluten, lactose, Vitamin K, fiber, and manganese.

I was able to find all the cheeses that have no or very little lactose.

I also found that the fruits and mushrooms I was eating every day are not acceptable for FODMAP restrictions.

One request: could you add a setting to track foods that help and hurt my campaign against inflammation.

Keep up the good work!

Needs a search function

FoodIntolerances has been essential in figuring out my histamine intolerance. However, you need to add a search function. Who would think to look for squash under “w”?
