Satisfied customer

I have had this System for about a year and it is infinitely better than other systems that I have used. Is there room for improvement? Yes, but they do seem to be consistently working to make a better product. Their customer support has always been friendly, speedy, well trained and informed.

Avoid This

Avoid this package at all costs. The dashboard and back office design in the new version is a complete stab in the back to current users. Much of the functionality has been obliterated making this virtually unusable from an accounting and business management standpoint. You will spend many more hours trying to get simple summaries made of data that we all once got simply by using the drop downs.

Had it since the beginning ...

I've had POSLavu installed since almost its inception. At first I liked it so much that I put it into 5 locations. Functionally LavuPOSPointofSale does a good job. There are big glitches when the internet goes down though; reconciling tickets when this happens becomes a laborious nightmare. Slowly I started switching locations to wired systems that had better failsafes.

Recently they've raised their rates about 200% for me and then billed me incorrectly. Addressing that was its own massive nightmare. As the company has grown the customer service has become some of the worst I've ever dealt with. I've been in the industry since 1979 for the record.

Normally I don't bother with reviews but I'm hoping this helps someone make a better choice. I definitely DO NOT recommend LavuPOSPointofSale because of the customer service that you will at some point need given the minutia it has to track.

DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE A RESTAURANT

Terrible service, can’t keep up with all the technical issues and glitches... won’t take anything off your bill if you lose business due to their mishaps (which happens as often as once a week)

Stop begging me to rate your software

It asks too rate so often it gets in the way

Bad bad bad

Crashes constantly, not easy to split checks,

New app is trash

Great app

Lemongrass loves LAVU!

So good in some ways... not so great in others.

I have been a customer for about five years with Lavu. I am writing this in response to the latest “glitch” that almost cost me over a thousand dollars over the course of a week.
There are a lot of things I like about them. They are always trying to improve, great tech help, great reporting- My restaurant runs pretty smoothly with this system.
What I don’t like is their LACK OF COMMUNICATION. I was actually recently was asked to review them in g2, and said pretty much this very same thing! And that was before this latest issue! When there is an issue- you find out in the middle of dinner service, or in this case when I went to go write my servers checks for Mother’s Day and noticed something was off. The glitch is causing double auto-gratuity to be added. If we knew about this, we could be in front of the situation. I could talk to my servers and we could figure it all out- but I don’t get that opportunity.
And that is what is so disappointing.

Very happy

This is a great system. New employees have no problem using it right away. Very intuitive. It makes other super expensive systems like micros and aloha dinosaurs. I had a couple of issues at the beginning but all were easily resolved. Technical support has been great too. I love the backend real time reports and how easy it was to set up and change menu items. My servers are also very happy with poslavu and they love taking orders on iphones. I don't understand any of the bad reviews, I believe the issues must be user error not the system itself.
POSLavu is releasing updates all the time and I'm excited to see what else I'll be able to do in the future. I believe this is a great company who is dedicated to improving an all ready great pos system.
I do recommend getting a Mac mini local server.

I have been with Lavu for 4 years

If I wasn’t so committed at this point having wasted tons of money I would switch systems. They have been promising features like online ordering since I started using them. They claimed it was a working feature which still does not work. They are very slow to fix bugs and basically just tell you to wait indefinitely. They have also raised their prices to about 3 times what I was paying. In the beginning there was a licensing fee which I paid like $800 dollars and he cheap monthly fee. Now they charge me 3 times the fee so my licensing fee was for nothing. They need to get their priorities together. They have a message board that they never use, if there is an outage they don’t tell you unless you call and tell them there is a problem. I could go on but steer clean save yourself the regret and hassle.

Has Problems but Improving

Thanks to dev for Improvements in stability (still unstable, just crashes half the time now) and ability to merge checks. Still cannot recommend as full replacement in a high volume restaurant, however would probably be quite useful in retail environments.

Review and stars updated to reflect progress and admission that although I still hate it at work, I can see its use in less strenuous arenas.

Very Sophisticated Software

Not to be confused with other simple point of sale systems in LavuPOSPointofSale Store, Lavu is a powerhouse when set up correctly and even better than had hoped. It took us a while to realized we need help and then a local Lavu specialist set us up right. He customized our system to improve efficiency and order accuracy and then we started seeing the reports and profit we expected from having a good pos system.
After using it now for over a year I'm still learning new things it can do.
Definitely the best pos system I've ever used, and the local on site support is the icing on the cake.

Restaurants DO NOT USE

I have been managing a busy city restaurant with this POS for over a year and a half now. My servers have an acronym for the system Lousy Asinine Virtually Useless Piece Of S***, and I agree.
I could talk about the constant flip flopping between Lavu and Lavu retro (to compensate for terrible updates), or the constant lost checks, orders, items, menus, but I won't.
I will focus on time. Between opening Lavu, waiting for the screen to load, waiting for the tables to refresh, waiting to load the tables order, waiting for each item touched to appear not the checks, navigating the useless menus after the order is sent, waiting until the order sends and lastly checking to make sure the order made it to its destination. The whole order process has now taken 3 minutes of your time.
This may not seem like much to non restaurant people but this process happens at least 4 times per table. At a busy restaurant like mine, servers have 15 or so tables a night. So 3 min x 4 times per table x 15 tables = 180 minutes spent at a computer every night.

RESTAURANTS STAY AWAY. You get what you don't pay for. Time is money and this system takes too much of it.

LAVU ..Great POS System and Still Growing

I have installed the POS System at my Restaurant and have no complaints. A server based pos needs a good reliable and secure internet to work well . We served 3 hundred guests on thanks giving with zero issues. We are located in bucks county and will happily recommend this system . Only issue is timekeeping isn't up to standards and minimal drivers used for compatible pos printers. Buy Star printers from Zepher and you won't have issues. I tried Ebay and they won't work with lavu .
