iRhino 3D Reviews

This is a very good update. iRhino3D performs the way you’ve always wanted Rhino to interface with a touch screen device. I’m excited to see how it develops further!

Note: a zoom select tool would be very useful. It can be difficult to lock on to specific items in the file while panning around.

I’ve been waiting for years for an update like this. It’s everything I was hoping for. Great work!

I was able to open V5 files after all, thank you for that. However what happened to the file thumbnails . In the old V5 version there was a nice pictorial list of my files each time I entered iRhino3D .

Could I know how I could use iRhino3D not crashing always?

It's a fact that touch screens are entering the classroom at ever increasing rates. We teachers have to adapt and incorporate this new technology. Now students can view 3D teacher-created models to enhance their own understanding. The teacher must first create the model in Rhino3D, then save it to a shared drive (I use Google Drive), and then students can view it on their iPad or phone. For the teacher who is not experienced with CAD, it will take a bit of learning on your part, but it is totally doable. This is a worthy professional development goal. Inspire your students by using high quality industry tools that have no limit, such as Rhino. This could be a career altering experience for a kid in your class. (I know, it sounds like I work for McNeal, I don't.)

I loved the idea of Rhino on my iPad but just a brain dead viewer. I’ll wait for Blender.

This works well. I am surprised how fast the 3d manipulations work. It is about the same speed that my thinkpad will rotate a complex object.
For an improvement I would like to see the ability to measure distance between points, getting a dx dy and dz like in rhino. That would require all the same point selects of course. This would be useful because I'm a machinist and it's such a pain to document every conceivable measurement so I end up using a pc with the 3d model and measuring features out in the shop. It would be neat to do this on the iPod.

App works great! I can't wait to try with 3d glasses.
The store description page says email attachments for iPad only, I can view them just fine on my iPhone 4.
Tap the attachment to download file. Once you see the rhino icon next to your file name, touch and hold until it says 'Open in "iRhino 3d"'.

Things I would like to see in an update:
It would be cool to change object colors from iPhone, or maybe just change layer colors.
Also lighting and textures would be nice.

But honestly, I have zero complaints. I am very happy with my purchase of iRhino 3d and would recommend it to everyone who uses Rhino. Now I no longer have to render my models in several views to show a client a concept. I can show them in 3d without lugging around my computer.

What can I say, this has been a solid reliable viewer of Rhino’s .3dm files. In your desktop (windows/mac) Rhino application make a nurbs object or import a mesh. Place it online, even in dropbox. Copy that URL, run to Rhino 3d and view it. It works!

Please note at this time it does not support textures. But the devs indicate that this may be an upcoming feature.

For those that use Rhino in their workflow this is a great handheld application.

I use iRhino3D to review models with clients. Of course there are things I'd like to control like layers, wireframe or ghost viewing options, but I'm sure that's coming. For now, I use Dropbox to download the model files and this program allows you to spin, zoom, and move around smoothly... Even with demanding complex models. This probably the most useful app I have for my business as a furniture designer.

iRhino3D does one thing and one thing well. It demos Rhino 3D models.

So far I have not had any problems although not LOTS of experience.

I like to get my files to the iPad using Dropbox and that works with Rhino. I go to the Dropbox app and attempt to view the file in that app which will, of course, not work. But Dropbox will get the file, tell you that it cannot can not open it but then give you the option to forward it to Rhino. It will offer that option under the forward button. It is aware that this is a Rhino app.

It would be nice to be able to get the file from within iRhino using Dropbox but I do not see that as an option at this time.

The cool thing is just how nice the fingers are for viewing 3D models. It is very natural and easy and intuitive.

Works great, and I can even open files that have been emailed to me since the last update. Love it. Could use some improvement on the "spin" of it, as it is now, manipulation is a bit "dead", in that thnigs have no inertia at all, like you expect things to react on an iPhone when you move them (think of scrolling). That's the only real downside that drops it to four stars for me.

iRhino3D works smoothly and I understand it is meant to be a presentation tool but it is nonetheless extremely limited, I think Rhino jumped the gun on this release. Currently, it doesn't render curves or polylines, so forget about showing line drawings (on a related note, Render is the only view setting, no Wireframe or Shaded). It also doesn't have preset top, left, etc views like the software, so forget about showing plans or sections easily and don't even think that you'll have access to the Named Views Panel. It also contains absolutely zero editing capabilities, can't even annotate.

I use Rhino, Matrix and Counter Sketch. This is a wonderful entry into tablet viewing and shows the potential just waiting to be realized. Works well with both DropBox and Mail as methods to get your models onto your iPad. Images look great and movement is intuitive! Great first step into a new world of CAD! If you have Rhino or Matrix, and an iPad get iRhino3D!!!

I Would give it 6 stars if it had the option to change the color of the background.
Great useful app.

It's a pretty slick application for not having a lot of functionality. It's a synch for me to open my files on dropbox, and then show them to my teammates. No fuss work required, and the default render settings will do for now. I just wish I could change them a bit. Layers too, for sure.

iRhino3D worked for like the first week, I wasn't crazy about it to begin with because there's only one theme you can view a .3dm file (white plastic item and blueprint background.)

The convenience to quickly review a .3dm file on the go made it convenient enough but now it's not even opening. I tried everything but I think ever since the new iPhone update I can't even use this. What a waste! At least give me a refund!

Does just what it says it does. Good, if somewhat opaque integration with Dropbox.

Other reviewers apparently didn't bother to read the description or limitations. It's a simple viewer, nothing more but that's still really useful!

I was amazed at how quick iRhino3D is displaying 3D models. I am happy to see the Rhino 3D team jumping on the iPad so early! I have a feeling its only going to get better from here! I think iRhino3D is heading in a good direction!

I love iRhino3D. It was easy to setup, easy to use and required no instruction. iRhino3D can only get worse through feature creep.

iRhino3D keeps getting better and better. Smooth and feature rich. Game changer for showing my designs to clients, getting feedback, and reviewing my work. Being able to have access to my files on my phone or iPad when I am away from my Mac is awesome. Love the new features and improved stability. Keep the updates and improvements coming!

Crashes any large files that i have which are all my “real” projects that I’d like to view. Not currently usable.

I have iRhino3D on my iphone and I was wondering why my model color layers don't show up in iRhino3D when they are there in the model file? Anyways it's a cool app and very convinent for quickly showing models

iRhino3D has come a long way. Sadly it still needs some development love and attention.

iRhino3D crashes every time on IPad Pro object scan mode. Scanning a room works great.
