🏷️ About:
The Newsweek app is a weekly magazine that provides readers with a month's worth of news, culture, and ideas. It features award-winning reporting and commentary from some of the world's best writers, giving readers an in-depth take on the week's events. The app is available for download and subscription on both iOS and Android devices.
Did everyone on the design, IT and editing teams get laid off or something? The this app app used to be great, with interesting stories with an easy to use and interactive design. Then the last update came. The redesign is so terrible I can't help but wonder if the staff made a bet to see if they could create the worst app ever. Not only have I experienced the tech issues mentioned below with issues disappearing or failing to download, I was shocked by the degree to which the new layout and design makes the magazine almost unreadable. They eliminated the variety of different length stories, features, etc. and now only have several stories that are giant blocks of text. Not to mention that you lose your place every time you close Newsweek . I have also notified an increasing amount of glaring typos in each issue that make me wonder if anyone is even proofing the magazine? I kept waiting for this app to release an update to correct the horrible changes, but it never came. I have grown up reading this app and will miss reading it each week, but I am left with no choice but to cancel my subscription. Shame on whoever is responsible for these changes for ruining a great publication!
Unbelievably bad

This is the worst magazine app ever. As a this app subscriber for twenty-five years, I have been disappointed at this app's slide into a celebrity gossip rag over the last two years, but this digital implementation takes the descent lower still. It just doesn't work. Despite having downloaded Newsweek , it's icon doesn't appear on the iPad (it's there if you type in a search for it). Once it does open, though, it doesn't offer any issues other than the free sample issues, and it won't even download those. When I go into my online account, it indicates that I have one, but then it asks me to subscribe. When I try to subscribe it says I already have an account. I have called the magazine's custom support, and have been assured at everything is hunky-dory, but still nothing works. The last this app issue I received was the final print issue. It's hard to believe, given the fanfare surrounding this app's shift to all-digital delivery, that they could have done such a poor job of implementing the change. Next step: getting my money back.
It’s a scam to steal your money 💰

Don’t get Newsweek or their services 🤬🤯😡someone sign up for a subscription in my name behind my back and now there’s no way to call them because there’s no toll free phone number for customer support service to call to get my money back so Aware that they are nothing but no good scammers 🤬😡😤
How did this get past testing?!

I’ve downloaded Newsweek three separate times, and have had middling to no success getting it to load the issues. Forget the fact that the magazines are presented in a bland way that looks like somebody pasted the text into a scroll view and stuck an image up top— I can’t even get Newsweek to reliably download my issues. For instance, the last time I downloaded Newsweek , I tapped restore purchases. However, nothing happened, the latest issue still read “buy” instead of “download”. Figuring why the heck not, I tapped subscribe. An alert popped up informing me that I was already subscribed. Still however Newsweek wanted me to buy the latest issue. Ridiculous. So I decided to see if I could wait out this problem. However, exiting Newsweek , I found that it still had a new issue badge. With no way to download the latest issue, I couldn’t dismiss this badge. And with it there Newsstand would constantly have a new issue badge of it’s own, regardless of whether I had a new issue I could actually read. Disgusted, I deleted Newsweek for the third and final time.
Nice easy to use app. However, I cannot seem to find a way to change the size of the font. Please let me know how to do that. 5 stars if it can be done.

Don't start a digital subscription w this app! At least until they sort this out. After 1.5 yrs of digital subscription w minor issues, I encountered the problem tt most reviewers of Newsweek encountered - Newsweek won't recognize my subscription so I can't download new issues. What made matters worse was when I tried getting help from the this app app support staff, they referred me to the iTunes support staff. Something about them (this app) not having access to my iTunes account details and hence they cannot determine if I am a this app subscriber. And iTunes staff reiterating that the issue is with Newsweek developer, not them! I felt like a ping pong ball in a game. Back and forth we will email with me getting more exasperated and angry. In the end, iTunes/Apple support won my admiration for 1-being courteous the whole time, 2- emailing me to ask if there is still a problem and finally 3-partially refunding my subscription when they realize this situation is going nowhere. this app support just stuck to their spiel (did the guy even read subsequent replies?) and eventually replying in CAPS the same spiel as if I could not READ and understand them. Hey, I can read just fine but you need help in communication and customer service. Mind you, the refund fr iTunes didn't cover all the issues I will never get to read. So folks, subscribing here is a money losing venture. Stick to the hard copies folks.
Where's this week's issue??

I've been subscribing to this app for decades and have loved the magazine. I'm open-minded enough to appreciate their move to all digital. However, I felt like the biggest luddite on the planet when I can't seem to navigate the issue properly, nor understand how the archives work, get logged out somehow, etc etc. I came here to see if others are having problems and I'm relieved to see it's not my ineptness that is causing the problems, but rather this app's! This is my first foray into digital magazines, burt let me just say it's not a good one. But all that aside, (I'm assuming they'll figure out they have to do a much better job with the whole online experience), where is this week's issue?? Here it is, Wednesday, and it's not out yet. I ALWAYS received my print issue in the mailbox on Tuesdays so how in the world is it that the online issue apparently isn't ready? Once again, I figured I'd somehow screwed up and wasn't doing something right since I couldn't find the latest issue last night when I looked for it, but alas, from what I can tell, there is no issue this week! I don't recall their EVER failing to get an issue out on time so this is really unacceptable. Figure it out, this app. It pains me that you're trying to be trailblazers here in the digital age and are screwing this up instead.
BEFORE (back when it was print also and they had just added retina): The latest release is awesome. Full retina support. The text is crystal clear now and the images are now done full justice. They didn't go half-way with the retina support as some others have. It all still works very well too as it had before.
NOW: Terrible update that broke a basic tenant and deleted any and all previous issues you had without any warning! WTH! This is also why I generally dislike all cloud/online downloaded media that is protected because it always tends to suddenly disappear on you at some point and there goes everything you ever paid for! Simply a horrific update and to not even warn anyone beforehand.... Who the heck decided to waste time and money writing a new app that is one of the worst ones ever written when the one they already had had been among the best ever written? How can a struggling magazine afford to pay to have an app that did not need to be rewritten to be rewritten? And how can they dare risk releasing something utterly bugged and messed up and poor when they can't afford to lose a single subscriber? It looked better when it was styled as it had been she it was still a print magazine too, much better then.

This new app does not work for me. I have tried restarting my iPad, performing a forced restart and even deleting Newsweek and downloading again. And yet I still cannot access any of the issues. this app needs to fix this problem. Update: I have been using the this app app update (6.0.1) for a few weeks. It still stinks. How can this app say this is an update? It takes a long time for EACH page to load. In the past, an entire issue could be downloaded in the same amount of time it now takes to load one short article. I will not renew my subscription if this problem is not fixed. Another update: I downloaded the latest this app app update (Version 7.0.0) and I must say that I believe you got it right this time. An entire issue can now be downloaded quickly. Thanks for correcting the previous horrible app.

As a subscriber I should be able to access this app on the Apple+ platform without having to pay again. Also I think some of the articles on Apple+ do not appear on Newsweek .
I thought this app was a evenly balanced site but I’m finding it’s not. There are more left leaning pro-Biden articles than anything favoring Trump.
How people could prefer Biden and his Socialist cronies and supporters makes me sick. This country isn’t perfect-no country is.
But to destroy our time-honored traditions and institutions and thrust America into Socialism is absolute lunacy.
That being said, I’m glad I’m not paying to read the articles on this site and will discontinue reading them as of now.

this app: you have redeemed yourselves. The new version of Newsweek is a vast improvement! Congratulations. I am back to reading every week thanks to my ability to easily access issues. What's more, this is an actual app as opposed to the previous PDF download. Thank you.
this app: you're losing me in so many different ways. I've been loyal for a long time (since I was a kid watching my dad read you) through your various editorial iterations, some good, some not so good. The current version is not so good, but I appreciate the effort to reinvent. Now it seems you are actively trying to prevent me from being a reader. I bought a year subscription, but your app never remembers that I'm a subscriber. Right now I don't even have the option of doing the stupid email reset. Please fix this mess of an app. There are so many other options out there that it's not worth it anymore to come to you.
I like the NEW Newsweek!

I do not get all the naysayers. This is a solid, easy to use app. this app has taken a bold, brave step into the future of publishing. It is all going to end up online eventually and this app is breaking the ground for others to follow. I love having the added feature of videos; can't get that in paper. It is so easy to navigate and I found the sign up and user guide simply and straight forward without a problem to get started. The articles are the same this app quality as we're in print and the graphics are excellent as is the lay out as are the photos. There is nothing there not to like, at least not for me and I've been a this app subscriber for decades. So, while I am of the boomer generation, I am enjoying the transition into the realm of digital publication. I warmly recommend Newsweek.

Nothing but trouble most of this last year. I am never recognized as a subscriber any more. thanks
The last update was horrible this one is even worse. Only reason I updated was because the last update was so sluggish downloading - every time you resumed download, it would erase everything that had already been downloaded. The new update doesn't even allow you to sign on initially and when it does allow you to sign on, it doesn't recognize that you are already a subscriber - it keeps asking you to buy the issue for $4.99. When you call tech support the digital's tech-support isn't even available until 9 AM. Doesn't this app test their new apps or upgrades before they offer them to subscribers? Quality control is nonexistent for software here at this app. I have been a this app subscriber for over 30 years and aside from some false sense of loyalty I'm not sure why I haven't already canceled my subscription -this is strike two on Newsweek upgrades.
New update has big problems.

My this app app was just updated and has major problems. On my full sized iPad it does work but downloads each page separately (instead of downloading the entire magazine at once like it used to). So you have to wait for one page to very slowly download and when you go to the next page you have to wait again for it to very slowly download. Very painful to try and read taking much longer than before to read the entire magazine. On my iPad mini, it doesn’t even get to the main library. It just gets a spinning wheel saving that this app is updating. Net result is it only works at all on 1/2 of my devices and way too slow to tolerate. Unfortunately I just renewed through iTunes and unless this gets fixed I won’t renew. Best that can be done would be given a choice to revert back to the last version that actually worked.
ok, but not great

My print subsription to this app was expiring and I just got my iPad. The in-app subscription was slightly cheaper than renewing the printed version, so I went for it. It's basically a PDF of the printed copy of the magazine that's still arriving in my mailbox. The nice part is having it with me wherever I have some time to read. Also, absence of ads is nice. But reading multi-column articles on an iPad is ridiculous! Why not make single column text that you can scroll down until you're done with the article, then swipe to move to the next one? The most frustrating, inexplicable thing is the "extra insight" at the bottom of some pages: "Visit the 9/11 Memoraial website for...." is crying out to be a tap away, but is not clickable.
To this app: Please make the digital version more iPad friendly and interactive.

I signed onto the this app website and followed the directions for converting from the print edition to the digital one. I then download this apps and signed onto it. Everything worked smoothly and I spent the hour reading the latest this app.
I am not sure why Newsweek's ratings are so awful, but it may be due to the instructions. There were several times when I was unsure of what to do. Fortunately, I chose correctly and all works well.
Get real about the price of this, folks. These kinds of news outlets are a dying breed unless we support them, and this is a great price for a great news source. I like the fact that you do not have to purchase eve issue, so if you do not have time to read one, just don't buy it. A yearly subscription would be great and I hope they provide that, but meanwhile, this is a great start. I dropped my kindle subScription to this app because of not getting the photos and color, so I am thrilled to see Newsweek. It does need some improvement in terms of the display ... It needs to have a better method for enlarging the print so that it is readable, but otherwise overall it is a great start,

To everybody who is saying that the latest update leaves them unable to sign in and access more issues, you need to check your email. A few days ago, there was an email from this app with "The Refreshed this app is Here" in the subject line. Part of the email reads "...in order to make this enhanced, multi-platform experience possible, we have to change the way we deliver this app to you. And that means we need you to create a new password so that the new system recognizes you as an active subscriber (to protect your privacy, we cannot change your password for you)." I hope this helps some people!
