Pretty basic

The way it switches between brain areas (page turning animation) makes it hard to really compare location. 3DBrain will highlight 29 different brain areas — you switch between them by clicking on the list entry, and you can’t navigate by clicking directly on the brain area in the 3D view. The ordering of the brain areas in the list isn’t particularly intuitive (it’s alphabetical). 29 brain areas is not enough. Where are V1, V2, V3, etc.? Where’s the fusiform gyrus? Neuroscience is a field where we don’t know what the correct objects to be discussing really are. 3DBrain ought to distinguish between “neuroarchitechtonic regions” and things like sulcus/gyrus based regions (don’t know the right term). And for didactic purposes, a drawing of the motor homonculus and sensory homonculus would be fun.

Great for neuropsychology. Do Not Upgrade!

Absolutely FANTASTIC app for graduate students in psychology, clinical psychology, and neuroscience! BEST BRAIN APP. I absolutely love it. It’s great for studying for the psychology GRE also.
BUT, DO NOT UPGRADE. The upgrade was terrible. I was happy to pay for the upgrade, and I had to delete it and reinstall the old version. All my neuropsych friends said and did the same thing: upgraded then had to downgrade. App designers, why? :( You have a giant world of grad psychology student who would gladly give you their money if the paid version was actually better.
Stick with the basic version, peoples, and you will be very happy!!

Very informative, easy to use!

I'm a student learning about the nervous system for Science Olympiad, and let me tell you, this is a fantastic tool for getting to know the brain. It has information about the different parts of the brain and has options for labels. It's also pretty easy to learn how to use. The only issue is that the images are a bit low resolution, but that's not even that bad, and the pro version has better resolution. Overall, awesome learning app.

Where is the back button?

Good app, nice 3D rendering. I think 3DBrain UI could be substantially improved by a simple "back" button. Now, once you move to another section (e.g., by following a link) there is no way to quickly get back to the previous one. Instead you have to go to the main screen, and start again from there. And that time adds up quickly.

Student

Overall, I really like 3DBrain! I had no problems figuring out how to operate it and it was very easy to use. I enjoyed 3DBrain because it helped me with my psychology app and my anatomy classes! 3DBrain was filled with useful information about the brain and a fun way to learn/memorize the information.

AMAZING

I love 3DBrain :D It's very useful and allows you to see the different sections of the brains such as the temporal lobe. In addition, it also provides information about each part.

Very helpful

3DBrain is very helpful when learning the different parts of the brain. It will show you where everything is located and give you a brief description of what it does.

Love it!

I wish I had had this when I was a student! I downloaded it 5 minutes ago and already recommending it to my students. Best 99 cents ever spent!

Very difficult to exit out of

I love 3DBrain - although it’s just not very user friendly (or at least for me). I can never exit out of it - I have the new iPhone and there is not home button. So you swipe up to exit apps but 3DBrain does not allow you to close it that way. It’s very frustrating so I have to delete it.

Only landscape mode

I love this so much I swear by it and tell everyone to open it.... but it’s a nightmare to have 3DBrain open on split screen on the iPad pros. Makes it frustrating to have to keep opening and closing 3DBrain for reference.

4.5 stars

It would be perfect if there was a place to quiz us over different parts of the brain and their function.

Can't close out!

Useful app for my psych class, but there's no way to close it out once you launch it on iPhone - I have to actually shut my phone down to get out of 3DBrain , which is deeply irritating.

This is CRAZY!

A bit laggy overall, but a great production nonetheless. A- in terms of grading 😼. Professor talking here

Please add the Insula

Great tool. The 3D Brain visualization is a must have for understanding the physical structures of the brain. Please add the insula. I was surprised that the insula appears to be lacking.

By

Overall not bad

Includes a lot of information and helps with visual placement of structures. Would be better if they had option for axial and coronal views and if they could label cranial nerves.

By

Rough viewing controls

The camera perspective does not respond smoothly to movements in the touch input. The camera often resets to a different orientation instead of rotating in the direction of the touch input.

By

Pineal gland

Why is the pineal gland missing it is even mentioned

By

Update ASAP

Good app, but needs to update. The UI is old and does not work well with the new iPad and also it needs to update the information in every brain structure.

By

not the best-phs

I had to get this for my psychology class when we modeled a brain out of play dough. It wasn’t the easiest to use

By

No able to open

I’m not able to open the application

Love it

Use it for psych. 10/10

Very thorough--interface could be improved

I enjoy how thorough 3DBrain is! I have access to a TON of info offline just by having this on my phone.

I would like to see some imrpovements made to the navigation and interfacing of info within 3DBrain :

-The toggle button between different parts of the brain at the bottom-left corner is in the way at times. Being able to turn that on and off would be nice, especially since I can search the structures in the right sidebar menu anyway.
-Scrolling through and making sense of some of the descriptions of parts of the brain as well as studies done on them can be confusing and esoteric at times. I have extensively studied psychology and neuroscience, and I am familiar with much of the terminology, but I feel the wording is a little clunky and the references are confusing to sort through.
-I would like to see the 'Labels' option remain constant even while rotating the brain. Sometimes I'd like an underside view with the labels intact instead of only being able to view them from one angle.
