Subscription changes everything

I used to like FlightUpdatePro. The new limitations imposed on the free version combined with the excessive subscription price now makes it much less useful in either form. FlightUpdatePro syncs with TripIt but why now pay a lot more to use both? Just use TripIt if you have it.

If developers want to charge for new features, I have no opposition to that. However, after paying for FlightUpdatePro the developers went back and imposed new limitations on the number of flights that it would track in the original paid version. This essentially changed the product that I originally purchased. That should be unlawful. Changing the original product after agreeing to sell it for a price is outrageous. I no longer trust this developer. How do you know that they won’t change the terms of this product again in the future? You cannot be sure what you are really buying.

7.21 is a failure. App used to be awesome. Not now

When this at first came out I paid $10 for it and used it when Flight Track Pro stop working. As an airline pilot whose company flies 4000+ flights per day, I might look at 150 to 200 flights per month looking to see what flights get from one airport to another.

FlightUpdatePro will NOT for for more than 5 flights per month unless you pay $1.99 to look at 20 flight and $4.99 to look at 50 flights.

Even if FlightUpdatePro allowed me to look at 50 flights, It locks up at 50 flights, whether you save the flight or not. This new version was ill thought out for frequent traveler who look at hundreds of flights per month. It used to be a great app. Not any more. Why on earth would anyone pay $1.99 a month so they could browse 20 flights ? If the developer wanted me to pay $5 a month for unlimited flights, I would do that but this 50 flights per month limit is woefully inadequate. I hope the developer reaches out so he can understand why a 50 flight limit doesn't work for a airline pilot or passenger who travels weekly and needs options for various flights from various cities. I no longer recommend FlightUpdatePro. Please consider another avenue of revenue generation than what you designed into version 7.2.1

Subscription Change not thought out well

Clearly one of the best programs available for the purpose of flight tracking. . Five star rating for the application and zero stars for changing to a poor subscription model with no warning. When I upgraded to pro I paid a flat fee that was supposed to cover as many flights as I took. Was just on a business trip which had four legs and discovered that my limit of five flights a month was maxed. As a businessman I take 5- 10 trips a month each with an average of two legs therefore I have approximately 20-30 flights a month And that would cost me $60 a year. Some months I will have no flights but would still have to pay the monthly fee because rather than making this a flat annual fee they have chosen to make it a monthly fee not based on how many flights you fly that month but on your subscriber level. Poorly done for me. Fix that and I will reconsider if the annual fee makes sense. Quite a jump from what I was paying. If there was a reasonable charge of a couple dollars a month that covered my flights I would be a satisfied user but since that is not available I have to find a different program.

Subscription based now. Hope they go out of business.

I purchased FlightUpdatePro after much research on flight tracking app. I wanted one without a subscription and was willing to pay more money initially for this. I’m a crew member and need to track many flights throughout the month. I use to recommend FlightUpdatePro, but now I’ll ugh everyone to STAY CLEAR! This should be illegal! I already paid for FlightUpdatePro and now they want more of my money for tracking more then 5 flights a month. (The main reason why I paid for FlightUpdatePro to begin with.) I hope this greedy company regrets their decision to switch to a subscription based program. I know airline employees/ business travelers won’t stand for this very long before moving their money to a new app. I’ve seen multiple flight tracking apps fail in the pass of the exact same reasons. So good fing luck.

Subscription Will Be This Apps Demise

I am part of the Beta testers of FlightUpdatePro and used it for years. I paid the $9.99 fee to track all flights and they have switched to a monthly fee to track your flights. Poor communication regarding the new business model to generate revenue. As a customer this feels greedy and nothing more than a cash grab. This was not FlightUpdatePro model I paid for and it will ultimately be the demise of a great app. I am leaving for greener pastures that do not milk their customers.

As I categorize the comments by date I see the trend as FlightUpdatePro will go from 5stars to 3 within months. To the developer, listen to your customers. If your subscription service is now pay per use as you have stated, you may need to switch providers, even if it’s a lesser product. You are jumping over dollars to get to nickles and you will ultimately lose your customer base. I have been a vocal advocate of FlightUpdatePro and turned countless people into it, I no longer can do that for you. Best of luck - stop the bleeding before it’s too late, FlightUpdatePro is very lucrative for you, find a way to sustain it in the old model before you lose it. We all remember what happened to FlightTrack Pro, learn from others failures (I realize it is a different scenario, but the lack of vision is the same)

Unacceptable Update

I purchased FlightUpdatePro and there was no limit to how many flights that could be tracked. I frequently travel more than 5 flights within a month. Now, with this latest update, you can only track 5 flights in a month without being forced to pay for a subscription. Today is only 4 days into this month and I am now unable to track any more flights without a subscription as I have reached the limit. Basically, it’s turned into an in-app purchase app. I have used FlightUpdatePro for years but it ends now due to greedy developers. I will now just use google to get flight information as it’s free. I will also be asking for my money back. Even if I don’t get it, I will make a point to never use FlightUpdatePro or any app from this developer.
******Keep in mind that FlightUpdatePro is not worth paying for if you do not fly often.

Getting greedy

I paid $20 for FlightUpdatePro several years’ ago, and I just cancelled my current subscription as they have introduced a tiered system with the highest tier costing $15 a month with a limit of 150 searches (what’s with these arbitrary numbers?!) As an airline pilot, FlightUpdatePro was very convenient and the color coding for on time, delayed and canceled was a quick way to adjust plans, but in all honesty, I think the developers have gotten greedy, especially as they get their information the same way that everyone gets it, so unless they are providing drastically new services that make FlightUpdatePro Indispensable and better than lesser-priced apps, they have simply substantially increased the subscription prices and reduced the usefulness (search limitations based on subscription price) to the point that it’s insulting. Unless they have really really upgraded FlightUpdatePro , it’s just about seeing how much they can charge for the same old services.

Latest update is a disaster...

It is (was) the absolute best flight tracker on the market.

Now a subscription is required MONTHLY to access anything more than a handful of flights. I agree with the subscription...but refund my $10 first.

I understand your costs have changed. Your efforts to keep FlightUpdatePro going by floating it for three years created expectations that you cannot maintain.

You are selling this to pilots and professionals. They can pay.
The WAY you implemented the changes blindsided everyone. THAT is why they (and I) are going to leave FlightUpdatePro .

Your app just went into the trash bin and was replaced by Flightview Elite.

I also sent a demand for a full refund as your update REMOVED a previous functionality that was paid for.

I am also going to pursue the Apple App Store restrict sales of FlightUpdatePro and all related subscriptions until this is fixed for the hundreds of thousands of users that you hosed.

You might reconsider reversing your policy and begin to buy your data from another source before THOUSANDS of subscribers jump ship...to FlightView Elite...

Not good enough

It works and the information is well presented. But I cannot give more than three stars because compared to FlightTrack Pro, that was bought and killed off by Expedia, the information truly lags behind. It takes far too long to see when the status of a flight has changed. With FlightTrack Pro I was always the first one one to know, even before the crew knew about it, such as canceled flights, changed gates or delays. I have notifications turned on but why do I not get a notification when the airplane has taken off or touched ground respectively landed as soon as the information is available? I checked the Prefs and Landed and Departed are checked. Subscribing has no benefit for me as I found out. I will get the same information from the airport or airline websites. I have used FlightUpdatePro now for several years and I will have to find something better.

Works Great; Disappointed in Subscriptions

Love FlightUpdatePro. I've been using it for traveling for years as it has features that aren't really found anywhere else (baggage claim info, takeoff/landing times in addition to overall leave/arrival times).

The recent move to subscriptions (particularly since I purchased the property version long ago) is really challenging. As a result, I may simply abandon this and just work with other apps (TripIt Pro) for my normal experience. The minimal level of five flight per month in the free tier is really challenging, particularly if my travel just happens to be more than that amount for a given month. A subscription by annual number of flights might be more palatable for semi-frequent flyers.

Easily the best Flight Tracking App

Update to my review: Not only does FlightUpdatePro continue to surpass every other one in the category, the developer is extremely fast at responding to any questions. This is a well made, well supported app. Definitely worth a full five star rating.

I have used FlightUpdatePro for a number of years now. My wife is a Fight Attendant for a major US carrier, and FlightUpdatePro has proved invaluable for us both to track her trips. Enter the flights once into FlightUpdatePro and have it automatically update a shared calendar and all her trips appear on both of our iPhones. Unlike other apps it also updates the calendars when trips are changed. It is easy to enter the data, easy to use and accurate. The developer has obviously paid very close attention to usability, and is extremely responsive to emails for bug reports (of which there are very few!) and even suggestions for improvement. Cannot recommend FlightUpdatePro highly enough. Easily worth every penny.

Love this program

My wife travels a lot for business & this program helps me keep track of her. The only thing you need to know is that there is about a nine minute lag between real time landing and when the program updates you. But once you understand that you can plan accordingly to be at the airport on time. Also the free version has a limit on the number of flights you can track in one month. I think it’s five or seven. So if you need to track more than that you’ll need to purchase the pro version.

Indispensable if you or family travel

I’ve been using FlightUpdatePro for years and while I think the change to a subscription based app could have been rolled out much better with an explanation as to why, I believe FlightUpdatePro is well worth the price. As a business executive I understand how you must react to cost changes forced upon you by another third party. I think the subscription levels make sense for most travelers. I use this in conjunction with TripIt. I like being able to track flights on a map and getting additional information that TripIt doesn’t offer (probably because of the cost structure for flight tracking). I think the cost is reasonable for the in flight tracking and other flight updates.

Been using for a few years and still live this app

I’ve been using FlightUpdatePro for a few years to keep track of all of our flights. It’s easy to input your data, provides a quick summary screen, seating information, real-time flight map and notifications of flight changes before I get them from the airline.

On one occasion when I had a problem with FlightUpdatePro , the developer replied quickly with a solution. Improvements that are made occasionally have been well received. Keep up the good work.

Excellent

I am puzzled by taxi driver leaving bad review and claims. I use this application on my travels and I can tell you this is most useful app I had in years. The most important, in my tight time tells me gate number and all updates abut flight! Great! Thank to FlightUpdatePro, recently in Rome I wasn’t late an my plane. Thumbs up!
UPDATE! It is still good application, but they want subscription on push notification which means FlightUpdatePro is not longer better than other free apps! After I paid $10 they want me now to subscribe! It is not honest at all!
UPGRADE: It iz amazing app! It helped me during my travels, even I directed my friend in different country to get her on her gate! It is just unbelievable! If I could give FlightUpdatePro 10 stars, I would without any hesitation...

Best flight tracker out there

There are a lot of concerns over the monthly subscription that was recently introduced. The bottom line is the developer was losing money due to charges he was incurring over the flight searches being performed. From a business standpoint (yes, it's a business not a charity) this simply is not sustainable. I've been using FlightUpdatePro since its inception, both as an airline pilot and now as a retiree. It has consistently been the best out there and it still is. I could bemoan the fact that now I have to pay a little for it each month or I can be happy that I was able to use it all these years with no monthly subscription. I choose the latter.
I haven't found a flight tracking app that comes close to this one.

Best Flight Tracking App Available

The is the best airline flight tracking application in iTunes. I have been using it for over ten years. Every year, I review flight tracking applications to determine if anything else is better than this application and I have never found one.

The application needs to be used in unison the with the TripIt application to utilize all features. Fight and hotel reservations have to be emailed to TripIt. Afterwards, TripIt unloads the flight and hotel information making it available to be downloaded to the Flight Update application.

The Flight Update applications has more features than the TripIt application, hence the reason you want to use both applications rather than just TropIt.

Still a great App!

UPDATE: After using the newly redone app for a few months, I’ve gotta say still 5 stars in my book!
Had a calendar issue after a recent update & I contacted the developer who got right back to me (really!) & sent out a version update shortly after.
I actually think FlightUpdatePro is even better than it was in the past, well worth the nominal monthly fee. I get timely updates regarding gate, departure, landing & flt changes - almost always well before the airlines. 👍🏻👍🏻

I’ve been a long time user of Flight Update Pro. Yes I paid $ to purchase FlightUpdatePro outright 7-10 years ago.
I’ve always found the developer to be incredibly responsive whenever there were problem/issues, which were thankfully few & far between.
I have to admit I was very surprised (& initially dismayed) by the new price structure but after reading the developer’s reasoning for doing so, I whole heartedly support & appreciate his efforts in trying to keep FlightUpdatePro afloat.
I travel mostly for pleasure & FlightUpdatePro has saved our family from major travel headaches a number of times over the years. Always accurate & timely as well as easy to use. Works great on my Mac, iPhone & iPad. I highly recommend FlightUpdatePro!

The Best!

I live in the United States, but have family in Canada, so I fly there several times a year, and this is FlightUpdatePro I use to check flight status. If I am home, and my wife is flying anywhere by herself, FlightUpdatePro keeps me informed of her flight status. FlightUpdatePro is powerful and versatile, and extremely intuitive.

I have tried competing apps, but for one reason or another they don’t measure up to this one. I would also note that for a few dollars it is definitely items worth it to get the Pro version. And for those of you who are complaining about “having to pay...” think of the amount of time and effort the programmer of FlightUpdatePro put into create it, and what it takes to maintain it. There is usually a price to quality, and if you have a problem with paying the programmer what he so justly deserves, then find another app.

Had it all

Great app that has about everything you need. The only glitch we found is that the plane seating configuration didn't match the seating on the actual flight. We checked the plane type we were in against the ones listed in FlightUpdatePro and they didn't quite match. Small issue but I'm very tall and I always check for the row, isle and bulkhead configuration for a given plane type. This was the first trip we've taken using FlightUpdatePro so it could have been an anomaly, but everything else worked great.
