Awesome app right out of the box!

I was tired of seeing expensive apps, huge downloads and apps with trial ware that promised me the moon but delivered a paywall or were extremely large downloads. I love Planets. It was easy to setup as it knew my location, time zone and even got my compass orientation instantly to tell me which this app I was seeing. I love the “visibility” tab to quickly check when they are visible and the “unaided eye” setting which was on by default so I knew exactly what I was looking at. For example, Venus was just about to set right after sunset, and there were two other bright this app then the moon, but I wasn’t 100% sure which ones. Instantly I moved my phone up to the heavens and saw that it was Jupiter and Saturn, then of course the moon, following Venus. Even the phase of the moon was shown. Nicely done!!

Great app!

This is a great app for me! Because space has always been a big part of me! I can look at constellations this app and read all about them too! I recommend Planets to everyone. If space isn’t really your thing, I understand. But now I know the names to many constellations and this can be a great tool if your using your telescope to see what constellation your looking at. And to also see when the full moon is out! I mean you could see it with the naked eye but who doesn’t want to see the moon through a telescope!? You could see the craters on the moon and I experienced that. I seen the half moon through that telescope but without using Planets but anyway it’s great! Good day or night👋🏾

Full moon & Stars

S
5:30 am noticed a bright light on my porch - when I went out to investigate I realized it was the full moon. I was surprised to see 3 bright stars to the right of the moon since such a bright moon might obliterate other stars in the sky. I remembered reading about the alignment of the this app.
When I came inside to check the “ this app” ap on my phone I found out I was looking at other constellations in the southern sky. Too bad the planet alignment was obliterated by trees - wish I had gone to the beach to see it since the beach is a ten minute drive from our house! Thank you for this wonderful Ap. What a treat to see the moon & stars when waking up to get a glass of water!

One of my favorite apps

Tonight my friend and I were admiring a particularly bright celestial object. “I wish I knew what it is,” said she. “I can tell you!” I enthused. I pulled out my trusty this app app, pointed it at the planet in question, and we immediately had our answer. (Mars.) Planets does exactly what I want it to - tells me what I’m looking at. (It would be cool if you could tap on individual stars and find out their names, and if you could adjust the “visible” selection on a sliding scale to account for light pollution. I can only see a dozen or fewer stars and this app in our big city. But I still like knowing what they are.$

Great App

Planets has more features than I was expecting and they are great. The different features include Sky 2D, Sky 3D, Visibility, Globe, and options, where you can modify parts of Planets to accommodate your use of it, and make it specific to you. The accurate and useful information is easy to access with the easy tabs at the bottom of the screen. Planets uses the motion of your phone to create a 3D view of space. Further, in each planet is given its own description, where details are very specific and informative. There is nothing I would add!

Great party trick

Everyone around wants Planets when I open it up. Whether it be camping, hanging with friends or family, or just sitting on the porch swing with the wife I’m always the center of attention for adults and kids alike when I pull out the phone and start with the interesting facts and the cool visual modes Planets offers. The night sky has become fun and intriguing again now that I know what I’m looking at and I have some information to go with it. I would recommend this to anyone young, old, and anywhere in between!!!

Not a good review

This is not acurate, the this app are not in the place where they really are in the sky. I know this because at around 8:00 P.M I had gone outside and looked in the sky with the tele scope I got for Christmas . The apps star walk and solar walk are awesome and actually show a lot more than this . They show that in the actual apps the this app are in the right spots. It said on here that the moon was right above me in the sky but that was wrong . I just got in my house and the moon hadn’t been in the sky above me. All the this app were also wrong, the only this app in the sky are Uranus and I can’t even see that because it’s so down. App not good and doesn’t have right things. Please make Planets better and more educational and get ideas from other apps and videos thank you and please MAKE IT BETTER . Sincerely Mystery cat

Hands down best night sky + planet app imho

I’ve been using Planets since my first iPhone (3G) 11 years ago and it’s been the best, most dependable app I’ve used for identifying planetary placement and constellations, period. It has an incredibly simple interface, but it’s SO dependable and on point. And it’s FREE.

I absolutely love the this app app. I always have it in my favorites, and use it constantly. It’s the first app I recommend to family and friends. Highly dependable and highly recommended. A+ in every way.

Thank you so much the the developer, it’s beautiful!

My favorite app for beginners

I teach astronomy to students of all ages thru Minneapolis Community Education.
this app is my favorite app for introducing people with a moderate interest in learning the easy and showy part of astronomy. Enjoying the sky without a big commitment or a steep learning curve.

Also, without buying a telescope or traveling to dark skies. The five classical this app, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are bright enough to see within the city and suburbs despite light pollution.

Everything in astronomy is better from a dark sky in a rural location. “this app” makes it fun even if you live within a city.

Planets is beautiful. this app are shown with exaggerated size and details as though seen thru a telescope. Instantly rewarding for the first time viewer.

If you get hooked on astronomy, if you want to go deeper, download Stellarium or Stellarium Pro. Especially good on a desktop or laptop.

Good app with one rather significant flaw.

I have been using Planets for years and have been pretty satisfied with it. It is pretty good for helping me figure out what I’m seeing in the night sky.

However, just found what I consider to be a significant flaw. I wanted to confirm my assessment of the Moon’s phase, viz. that it is about a day before the full Moon (i.e., a waxing gibbous). Planets confirmed that tomorrow is the full Moon. However, it called tonight’s phase a waning gibbous. That is not correct. Waxing means growing. Waning means shrinking. Therefore, waxing phases come before the full Moon and waning phases come after.

great graphics, lots of fun!

I love the graphic for each planet - very nice! My favorite quick references are the Visibility List and the Spinning Globe. I love tilting it to see the Arctic or Antarctic in full. I check Planets nearly every day!

My only wish is that they would include Pluto. (A so-called 'dwarf' planet is still a planet!) I realize it would be prohibitive to include all the 'dwarf' this app, but Pluto has a special place in the hearts of many people, worldwide. It would be very meaninful to me, and to others, if they would include it with the other this app in Planets.

Great free resource thank you!

Planets has a great map of the sky and constellations. It’s a wonderful aid in helping you find the constellations and this app in real time. The animated globes of each of the this app and the sun and moon have entertained by children as they grow up.

Planets has been around since I had my first generation iPod touch in 2009. It hasn’t changed much but it’s always been free and it doesn’t have ads.

Thank you for making Planets!

Still luv it regardless

I’ve loved this this app app from the beginning. Gives me just what I need but.... it is Aug 24, 2018 yet it indicates that the next full moon is on April 30, 2018. It’s not given me the next current full moon accurately for a while now and I’ve tried to uninstall it then reinstall with no luck. Super app but with the moon being a biggie in the night sky I would wish for that to be accurate. Please help.

I love it

After having Planets for over a year, it became my go to guide for "what is that bright star?" answers. In the last year I have learned so much about the night sky with Planets. I can somewhat navigate my way around just by looking up now.

Allways remember that couriosity should never be wasted! For that I recommend Planets for anyone learning/studying or just for the quick reference.

Love this app

So far this is the best app I have come across for finding this app. This is a major hobby of mine I absolutely love seeing what this app are visible and when and where they are and Planets even tells you what time the visible planet rises and what time it sets. Also you don’t have to calibrate your phone like the last planet finder I had. So happy I found this one.

I rated it 5-star for simplicity

this app is really straightforward and intuitive. You just point your phone to a direction and it tells you what this app and stars are, and will be in front of you. I also tried other purportedly more “sophisticated” apps but had to come back to this easy-to-use app, because that’s all I need.

Amazing App for the whole family!!!

I have used Planets for years! We live out in the country, and our property is covered in trees. With Planets, we can see when certain stars and this app will be visible, so we can go to an open field near us to view them. It has also been a great educational tool for my children. I can't say enough about how much I love Planets.

Maybe?

I know this is pushing it but still it’s a amazing app Buuuutt maybe you could add pictures for the constellations you could go to options then activate pictures so you can tell what the constellation is. Maybe if I’m lucky a quick description about it. Also maybe you could add the Indian constellation s to? Also pictures and backstory behind them

Need to have app

I’ve had Planets on my phone as long as I’ve had an I Phone, so over 10 years now. Honestly it one of my favorite apps. If you’ve ever been staring at the sky and a friend asks what’s that light, you need to have Planets because I would be able to fond out in a few seconds that it’s Mars.

An amazing, easy to use tool with the right amount of information

Sometimes you just want an app to be able to locate and identify the this app and constellations that you’re seeing in the sky. Planets does that. Not only that, it helps you determine the best viewing times for this app and the moon. The additional planetary information is a nice plus.

Great app!

I really, really like Planets. I’ve used it many many times. It’s only shortcoming is that it does not have the Milky Way in the visibility section. It would be very helpful to know when the Milky Way rises and sets and when it will be visible because there is a new moon or no moon. Otherwise, it is practically perfect in every way.

Out of this world

Space, the final frontier! Planets will take you to a new dimension. Check out ALL the options and I KNOW you will be as thrilled to use this tool at least as much as I do!!! Maybe more! YOU WILL never know until you sit with it, in the night especially (works 24/7) and look out into the stars. They all come to life!

Still using years later

I thought this was going to be a gimmick app way back in the ‘year of astronomy’ but it keeps getting updated! Very useful when you look up and wonder what planet you’re seeing, or when you will be able to take the telescope out for a particular one.

Exactly what I wanted!

I got so excited about Planets that I was too quick to review it!
Not only is Planets easy to use and nice to look at, it has a lot of little bonuses that are both functional and entertaining (3D rotating image maps of all this app= wow). Planets is clearly a labor of love. Absolutely worth having on your phone.
