JustRun is free to use and has no ads! It’s perfect and rare!! Please never change!! My only complaint is sometimes I forget to reopen JustRun after I finish a run, then hours later I’ll open JustRun to see it reset itself to the beginning of my run for that day, so I have to let it run through in the background, and make sure I’m there when it’s over to properly end it, so the schedule will stay on track and all my previous days will be marked as complete. It actually just happened to me for the second time right now that’s why I’m writing this review. It mainly just annoys me because it only happens when I’m tryna go to bed, and this time I was too late and it threw off my schedule by a day.
Overall, I’m pleased with JustRun and the program. It’s worth the small price for the upgrade so you can track yourself while in locked screen. Would also love to be able to add to my smartwatch.
My only downside is that it says couch to 5k, indicating you can go from no running to running a 5k by the end of the program. While some may be able to run a 10 minute mile (30 min 5k) by the end, I would expect the majority of us cannot. The program helps you progress from running a minute at a time to running 30 minutes straight. That’s great. But if you haven’t progressed to 10 min mile pace that quickly , and you are planning to participate in a 5k race, that 5k is going to be rough on you. Luckily, I have some experience with running and I used another app to track my distance, so I had to actually kinda go off JustRun in my last week . 5k race in two days :)
I’ve tried (and paid) for a few other C25k apps and while they worked for me at first, over time they got bloated with features I didn’t need or converted to subscription models. I was looking for a barebones training plan that can cue me to run and walk when I needed to as I worked through the program, and this app is IT! I used the free version of JustRun for a few weeks and ended up paying for Premium, not because JustRun is lacking without the premium features, but because I wanted to thank and support the dev for creating such a useful app!
My favorite (free!) feature is that each run has a recommended scheduled date based on when you completed your last run, and if you “miss” a day or need to push things out by a day or two, the program auto-updates these recommended dates. This reduced a lot of the friction from feeling like I was “behind” or not meeting my goal, and I’ve been able to stick with the program for over three weeks now. I’ve never been so motivated to work towards a 5k before, and I know if I ever have to take a break or life gets in the way, this app will be right there to help me get back on track.
Simple app with exactly what you need. It is very easy to follow and I appreciate that there’s no ads too. I can tell I’m improving a lot and I’m about half way through the 5k plan. I will definitely continue to use this as I work my way up to 10k!
The only downside is that I’ve noticed sometimes it doesn’t alert me to start running until a minute to a minute and a half later or until I open JustRun back up.. most of the time it works properly but it kind of glitches in that way. It’s not a big deal to me, I try to be aware of my timing and keep checking as I expect this to happen but it is something to be aware of. Otherwise JustRun is a 10/10 :)
I’m in my running girl era and let me tell you it is changing my life. I’ve never been an endurance runner, and I always found it difficult but JustRun has been helping me so much by timing the intervals and prompting runs and walks. Im honestly surprised at how much progress I’ve made and the runs just get easier and easier. It’s such a straightforward app, which I so appreciate. No marketing, no ads. I look forward to going on my runs. I paid for premium to support the developer (thanks Gary!!) and I’m aiming to run a 5k in the next couple of months. Wish me luckkkkk~
I used a different app for 5K training a few different times over the years. I started the program over again only to find out there was now a payment required on a subscription model. I am glad I found JustRun to continue my training. I didn’t even mind paying the optional premium upgrade for a $2.99 flat fee as I felt that was a fair and reasonable price. I am happy to support developers who should be compensated for their work, but I didn’t like the “gotcha” tactic used on the other app. I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a great app for your running training!
Finding apps that don’t bombard me with subscription fees and ads (not to mention bells and whistles I don’t need or want) has gotten to be a rarity. I am trying to tackle my health and the other popular running apps have been ruined with ads and monthly fees that rival Netflix. Why?!
I went on one run with JustRun and it was everything I wanted. Told me when to run, when to walk, and let me listen to my audiobook along the way. It’s not fancy, but I also didn’t need it to be. If I continue to have a good experience, I will pay for premium to support the developer.
I have done couch to 5k twice in the past using an app that now charges $20 every 3 months. JustRun uses the same time proven progression that the other apps use but completely free. The premium option is only $3.49 and gives you extra voices for the trainer and more color themes, nothing needed to fully utilize JustRun and reap all the benefits of learning (or re-learning) to run.
This time I am doing the program with my two oldest children (10 & 12) and the progression is gentle at first and suitable for anyone who has the potential to run 30 minutes strait. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love JustRun. It is giving me exactly what I need, just an indicator of when I need to warm up, when to run, and when to walk. I like that it is very low profile and doesn’t shout motivations every 3 seconds, waking my neighbors when I run at 7am. Also great interface, just click the next day and run. First app that made me stick to running. C25k actually went too aggressive when I tried it and I got discouraged when I had to keep stopping short. JustRun seems to take it a bit more easy in week one, so I was able to complete each run. Been using JustRun for a month and have not missed a run :)
I could actually become a runner. Past mid-life I needed a way to build muscle to offset a health issue. I’m so glad I found Just Run: Zero to 5k. I trusted the process and followed each day’s running plan. And I was able to complete it; running 30 minutes straight. I paid for the premium plan and that was the best $5.00 I’ve spent in a long time. I really appreciated the 9 week schedule, the option for voices, the turn around reminder, and how I could press play and know throughout each workout when to walk and when to run. Very glad I downloaded JustRun. Not ready for 5k to 10k yet, but it’s on my vision board now!
I was looking for an easy to use, C25K app and I was dismayed to find that the majority were subscription based. I stumbled upon JustRun and was surprised to find an app that was so opposite of modern day app designs. It wasn’t subscription based, it wasn’t bloated down by unnecessary features, it didn’t even try to collect my data! What it was, was exactly what I needed: a free way to organize my running schedules and alert me when to start walking and when to start running. I’m only 1/3 of the way through the plan, but I ended up buying premium even though I didn’t need any of the extras and I would encourage you to do the same if JustRun helps you reach your goals.
I came here after finding out C25K started charging a subscription. I am getting back into running again and JustRun used to be free. JustRun is simple, to the point, and a great running companion. Because it’s completely free it’s better than C25K. I went ahead and bought the premium to support the developer. Offering extra features that are not necessary but cool to have or a fun upgrade is the way to go. This model makes people want to support an app that they love when they can. This is the same type of model for my favorite phone game Shop Titians uses. I don’t have to spend money and can play the entire game and not loose out at all. I pay for the subscription and an occasional mega pack because I love the game and find value in it. However, sometimes I have to cancel the subscription, but that does not affect gameplay at all. There are also no ads. The game advertises its own products like JustRun does. I can see JustRun growing a large and loving health oriented community as long as it sticks to a model something like this. I love what the the developer is doing here! I will be recommending JustRun!
Loaded this due to the zen labs C25K charging these days. But JustRun is so perfectly efficient, I’m thankful to have made the switch!!! Did my first workout, loved JustRun . Already have recommended to friends. I am using this to work on speed training. I am capable of running a 5k now, but I have a finish time goal I’m working towards. So, I’m doing JustRun and working on pushing myself to go faster pace on the “run” prompts than I usually would for a steady 30:00 run. Looking forward to following the plan! To the designer of JustRun , God bless you for making this free. Seriously, life is so expensive right now, this was such a treat for me. God bless you for your generosity in making JustRun accessible to everyone.
It used to be one someone made a good app, they set a price and you paid for it and that was it. Now everything has shifted to subscription models and obscured fees and contracts. I’m glad this developer didn’t do this. He made a great app that’s completely usable free and set a ONE TIME purchase price. On principle I bought it because I respect the transparency. Furthermore JustRun itself is solid, it does everything I needs to and nothing it doesn’t. It simply is an interactive version of the very simple C25k program. A program one could do without an app, but it’s nice to have everything preset and ready for you. I especially enjoy the “turn around” feature. The voices are solid as well. Thank you, sir!
I love JustRun so much! It’s streamlined and simple to use. As someone who just started running, I found that it was easy to keep up with the schedule and it hasn’t once felt like I’m overdoing it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s challenging sometimes because running is challenging! But being able to use an app that is free, effective, and easy to use helps so much. I purchased the premium version just to show my support and it’s totally worth it in my opinion to change the colors and have the timer show up on my lock screen! I’m currently on the last week of the 5k program and can’t wait to switch to the 10k version after I finish. I feel like JustRun has helped me enjoy running, which is truly a miracle!!
I love JustRun so much. I’m currently in week 9 and have gone from barely able to run for a couple minutes, to the full 30 (before week 9).
Pros: audibly tells you to walk/run and gives a halfway cue; no interference with music; the program itself was well planned out; count down timer that stays on screen if you’re in JustRun ; and encouraging notes from the developer (thanks coach lol)
The only thing I would like to change is some indication of what “set” you’re on when you’re in the interval weeks. When I was starting the program and would get really tired, I wanted to know how many runs were left. There is a timer in the top right that kind of helps but it’s not the same thing. But honestly this is such a small note. Overall 10/10 and I suggest JustRun to every one.
I switched to JustRun because i didnt want to pay for the subcriptions they had. JustRun does not force you at all to buy anything. All there is, is a voluntary donation. JustRun has no ads AT ALL and i could easily just start my training. ui is simple which I like. The thing that I really like about JustRun is that it just focuses on training up your endurance. Other apps include other things but personally, I just needed an app to guide me.
I was a beginner when i used JustRun for the 5k and it really did help me. At first I didnt see any progress and had a lot of setbacks like side stitch and poor breathing technique, but if you really be consistent with JustRun it WILL get you to a 10k.
The only thing that could make JustRun better would be more training. I finished the 10k and I am trying to find what to do next.
I finished Zero to 5K today (my 5K is in 2 days) and I feel completely ready! I love that JustRun has a Lock Screen feature, so that I’m not constantly hitting pause on accident and pausing my run. The interface is user-friendly, and the fact that this creator offers these fitness plans for free makes me willing to pay to support (a feature in JustRun that works like a donation.) It is so nice when you’re just getting started on your health journey to have free tools and resources—the cost of healthy food alone is difficult in this day’s grocery economy, needing new running shoes if you’re going to do this, etc… it was a stress taken away not to pay for an app that I had no idea whether I was going to stick with. But MOST IMPORTANTLY, it works. I feel physically ready and so excited for my 5K! I’ve already signed up for a 10K and will be continuing with this program to train.
I’ve been looking for a free app that will get me started on my journey again. Two years ago I went from being a non-runner to a person who hit the trail three times a week doing about 2 miles each time, which is incredible for me. I’ve never been a runner and I am now age 65.
During my first year and a half of running, I did suffer a minor setback with tendinitis in the hip, which required me to rest and exercise, not run. Once I got back on track, then I suffered a foot injury. Now that that is recovering, I wanted to get out there again and JustRun has been helping me to do that. It’s easy to use. I just hit start and it gives me a five minute warm-up, followed by prompts for running and walking until I complete it.
I am excited to be running again and I look forward to getting back to doing greater distances. Thank you so much for creating JustRun for people like me to continue with a healthy lifestyle.
I don’t remember how i found JustRun but I am glad I did! I am almost 40, 320lbs+, and work a desk job. I needed a change, and JustRun helped tremendously! For a time i was using the timer on my phone to time my interval runs. I found JustRun and fell in love with it instantly. Just do what it tells you (take rest days if you need to) and you’ll be golden.
Only complaint I have is that it assumes a 10 min/mile pace. There is no tracking of your actual pace to adjust the run times. But not a big deal, just run longer if you need to hit more distance.
