🏷️ About:
TempSpike is a wireless bluetooth barbecue temperature and time monitoring program, connected to wireless bluetooth, you can remotely set the temperature or time, when the temperature reaches the specified time, it will remind you immediately.
Everytime I attempt to click on the therm in TempSpike to adjust the settings/temp, TempSpike crashes. It’s pretty useless if I can’t set the temp parameters…
New app release is two steps back

by Danielc0307
It’s almost like some app team sabotaged this product. Or maybe they had to remove features because of legal action by a competitor feeling it was too similar to a patented app? Whatever happened, it’s so disappointing.
I had high hopes for this product but now the user interface is so clunky that I’m returning it.
Horrible and annoying

The spikes work well enough but TempSpike is almost nonfunctional. Make changes to max and minimum temps but TempSpike just ignores these. Click “ok” when it reaches the meat temp I set but the alarm just keeps coming back over and over and over and over until you force quit TempSpike . Trying cooking something when you have guests and this thing demands so much of your attention that you feel rude. I can’t believe it gets any good reviews.
Won’t work

by Profyi
I just got this let it charge. Then downloaded app hit add . But then it’s shows temps but can’t change anything. There no selection for beef chicke ect like stated or timer ect. I have del app many times still does not work. Also charged it for 8hrs and probe light still flashes slow like not fully charged. Base light went out but not probe. Yes it connected to blue tooth when you take probe out of case just can’t get any settings.
I purchased this based on reviews. I used it once and worked ok. Got about 5 hours out of the battery. Went to use a second time and the probe would never hook up to the base. I would highly never recommend this. I get most issues are user related but not this time. Look for another brand. Hopefully my overnight cook won’t go bad! Shame on them for an inferior product!!
Can’t add new profiles
2024-04-03
by Gramsterix
App is broken. You can click + to add new profiles and enter them and press Save, but they never show up in the list. So you have to keep editing existing profiles to set different temperatures.
doesnt work on my 15 pro max.

I got this when I had a 12pro max. upgraded the phone a couple of months ago. Went to use it yesterday, needed charging, my screw up, but today, after charging all night, isn't getting recognized. Pulled out an old samsung, downloaded TempSpike , connected in seconds. How about fixing the problem.
This thing is useless

Worked great for the first 4 uses…They did an update on TempSpike and now it won’t pair with the phone. What a waste of money. Don’t buy this product! Thanks app peeps for messing it up!
Keeps crashing

by TexasCharles
Crashes every single time I open it. If I restart my phone it works for about a minute then crashes.
Temp spike worked great before the new update. Now it doesn’t connect to my IPhone. Tried everything to resolve myself. Very disappointed as it’s useless now.
Updated to garbage

Was great. 3/6/23 updated within last week and now it’s horrible. Doesn’t save previous. Barely even functions now. Great job with updating guys…
Love the device. Hate the app.

The device itself is fantastically useful. Put something on the bbq and get notifications from inside the house with the doors closed because the AC is on, yes please. But TempSpike is awful.
It’s massively over complicated. Like having to choose a meat type. It constantly forgets settings. 300 sounds is overkill (most of them annoying or repeats) and I had to save a note of my choices elsewhere because it keeps losing them.
The reality is, most of the time I want to just use my old dumb probe thermometer because it’s simple. That’s what I need from TempSpike . Forget the profiles. Slim the settings. Unclutter the UX.
I want to be able to just open TempSpike , set a target temp, and get an alarm. My old dumb probe doesn’t care what I’m cooking, just the temp. There’s way too many steps and choices involved for this.
Missing functionality

by Steelie2
I don’t know if it’s just a lack of experience cooking that creates a very narrow approach to companion applications for these thermometers, but there are some glaring issues that could easily be fixed.
First, why in the world do I have to select a meat type just to choose a target temperature? OK, fine. I can either create my own or use “No Profile.” Regardless, it’s ridiculous that I have to go BACK into the settings THREE LAYERS DEEP into the selected cook just to change the target temperature. Make it simple! Let me tap a button on the main screen, adjust the temperature up and down with a plus and minus, and that’s it! Don’t make me go back into a menu setting just to change it. Argh.
Second, why do I have the ability to set a low and high alarm for the ambient temperature, but I don’t have the ability to set the same low and high on the internal temperature? I know it seems silly to some, but when I am resting something like a brisket, pork shoulder, etc., knowing that it is not dipping below a certain temperature is important to me! It’s such a simple concept. TempSpike could be so much better improvements. Also, to some other reviewer’s points, signal strength on Bluetooth connectivity is super helpful! Hopefully the developers are listening!
Temp not working?
2025-02-19
by Rchie74
Unless it only updates a few degrees every 10 seconds mine is not working properly! I have a cord prob in, and the smoker temp gauge both are reading 248 and the this app is still at 145 and climbing steady at a few degrees every 10 seconds…….why?
The interface on TempSpike is horrible, it took me a few minutes to figure out how to set the temp. I get notifications that my phone disconnects from the probe and it’s hard to tell when it connects again (I just wait for the temperature to change). It is not intuitive and the layout is cluttered and hard to follow.
Great idea, needs a lot of work.

The alarm feature is terrible. On/off don’t seem to have any real effect. Once a temp alarm has been set it’s on forever regardless of the on/off buttons in TempSpike . The battery life isn’t good enough to smoke anything longer than about four hours, and the food temperature control is cumbersome to use.
Hoping for an app update

I’ve been a fan of ThermaPro instant read thermometers for years. I believe this product is a great value and quality, however TempSpike is not intuitive or modern. It feels like it was built by a hardware/software engineer and not a proper product designer with a solid understanding of what the user experience should be.
As others have mentioned, you have to select a meat before setting ambient hi/lo temps.
I wish I could do this for the meats including three internal temp settings: a low setting for the chance my heat source goes out, internal temp when I should pull the meat off of the heat source, and a resting temp for the expected rise in temp after pulling meat from the heat source.
Having preselected and custom settings for each meat type is good, but I’d like to skip the meats and just enter the temps mentioned above.
Next, I love the idea of the graphing but almost every time I start a cook, I forget to start the recording. The buttons are not intuitive and easy to gloss over.
If I were to define the best flow for myself, I’d walk the chef through a series of steps: 1) set the necessary temps,
2) insert probe and check Bluetooth connection with temp readings,
3) start button to begin the recording (and stop button for the end)
Poorly designed up

I like the this app probe, it has better range than the Yummly. But navigating TempSpike is confusing. I don’t understand why my it automatically creates multiple cooks
Make it go landscape mode pls

by Ehllan95
I love the thermometer and TempSpike . My only request is to have it be able to rotate
I’ve been noticing every 30min or so, I go back into TempSpike and the recording has stopped and I have to reset. I’m still connected and haven’t gone out of range, but the recording seems to cut out.
Why remove stuff?
2024-02-27
by Krashhole
I’ve only been using the Temp Spike a short time, but I liked some of the stuff y’all had on the previous version. But they’ve removed some features and I don’t get why. They removed the Bluetooth signal strength icons, they removed the timer, they also changed the way you could set a high and low alarm. Before, the numbers were on like a wheel. Now you have to drag the line up and down which makes it hard to select the temp you want. Hopefully they will add the signal strength back and the timer. And please make it easier to adjust the high/low temps like it was. Also. The estimated time remaining is not working either. It worked fine on the previous version.
Functional but UX needs some work

by J|o|h|n
App does what it needs to but the UX is straight out of 2005 and could use some work — it just “feels” clodgy. Nearly bought a Meater probe (which is a shoddier product) just because they have a nicer looking app!
No resting alert/ capabilities
2024-05-03
by Prime Rib Lover
TempSpike is just ok. My only complaint is that it does not have an automatic resting period for the meat. If you take our your meat at the set point, it will continue to cook and overcook. You have to manually take the meat out before it reaches the set point. Other competitors like the Meater app has this function, and tracks/alarms when tested properly. TempSpike could learn from the Meater app.
Handy app, but extremely annoying notifications

by Loaded Dice?
I really enjoy TempSpike and flexibility to create your own settings and track cooking profiles.
As I write TempSpike review I have notifications turned off for the temp spike app and my phone is continually beeping and vibrating because the temp spike is disconnected. Using TempSpike outside the range or near the edge of the range basically renders your phone impossible to use because of the constant buzzing and vibrating. Very frustrating. I would not recommend to others
Evert since the last update my temp spike disconnects after a few minutes. I’m constantly worried I won’t get an alarm at the desired temp. It use to be flawless until the last update.

I can’t find a way to turn this device off for storage. Therefore, you have to remember to charge it well before using. Works great when using.

So far so good…will this have an app for the Apple Watch soon?
I haven’t used it long but it comes really handy. The only thing I wish you could do is make it where you can add a widget to monitor easier instead of opening app
Feature removal
2024-09-11
by SSpilot14
Like others have mentioned , why remove features? TempSpike has a small footprint so that cannot be why. Items like the timer are useful in a smoke/cook for reminding when to spritz/mop, wrap brisket, change temp etc
Also, more pre-alarm temps would be nice. Actually, a free-form field for whatever temp would be better than a pick list. Development wise this is easy , so please consider.
Works like you’d expect it to

This thing works great. I had an issue with the first one not charging fully. It only goes to one bar charged. I get about 3 hours of life. I’m supposed to be getting a replacement. The only thing I don’t like. Is that you can’t just set alarms. Like if I’m cooking chicken. I get set an alarm at 145 to sauce the bird. It’s a one an done profile. I just wish with one profile you could set multiple alarms
Works great!

Great app but some of the switches are confusing to tell if they are on or off.
The apple watch app is very useful but scrolling doesn’t work when selecting the item currently cooking therefor hiding some information.
New version March 2023

Still a pretty handsome app. A couple of disappointments though. When I opened TempSpike today and found it had updated, all of my custom profiles had disappeared. Fortunately they’re easy enough to recreate. The change in setting the ambient range is much harder to use precisely due to the new slide setting.
This system has fabulous range and great flexibility. I can set it up to alarm if my ambient temp inside my smoker gets too low. Something you can’t do with MEATER. I only wish they had an Apple Watch app so my watch could alert me.
I wish this app supported Apple Watch

Supporting the Apple Watch will allow hands free temp checks. It’s really the only thing I don’t like about the product.

this app is accurate and easy to use. It's great to have both meat temperature and ambient temperature. You can customize a cooking range for your personal preferences. Customer support is great and easy to access. The range of the signal is more than adequate. Over all great product and I give it 5 stars!

I’ve used other thermometers that are like the Temp Spike by ThermoPro. I can honestly say this is the best one I’ve ever used. The other 2 I own always lost connection when I went indoors. Temp Spike doesn’t. It works perfectly. I only hope they come out with support for the Apple Watch. Proud to own another product from ThermoPro. They never let me down.

This thing is awesome my only gripe is it need to be on the phone screen when the phone is in stand by so I can see it without having to open TempSpike every time
Like the product so far. Wish there was watch functionality so as to not have to open app on phone constantly. Especially if just need quick glance at temp on the go.

I use my this app witn my Ninja Woodfire grill to make pulled pork from a Boston But. It saves me time by not having to worry about the meat. You set the temperature that you want to cook to and go about your life. When it hits the preset temperature it sends a warning to your phone. Easy peasy! Just be sure to keep it charged.
