Overall it seems to “work”. Sometimes it will show something like can’t connect or searching for and it will leave details blanked out while searching. Going back and reopening a few times tends to get it to load though. When setting temps or other settings(goal temp for sensor, time etc) it will lag and not show the change for a couple minutes unless I go back and reopen device in app. So cleaning those parts up would be helpful.

Some wants I would have for it are fan control when changing temp to save charcoal. Instead of feeding like crazy for fast temp increase to be able to set different fan speeds or “heat up” speeds when changing temperature. While it can get to 500+ in under a minute to slow that process so less is burned up would be interesting to play with.

I have a this app 800. This is a pretty convenient app... When it works. A lot of times, Masterbuilt will either "lose connection" while I'm viewing my smoker's settings and I'll have to back out to Masterbuilt 's home screen and re-open my smoker. That's the most annoying of the problems since it never works on the first try. I usually have to open Masterbuilt , click on my smoker, get told it's lost connection, back out, and try again. I'm lucky if I have to do that only once. Other times, I'll sit and try to change the temp but it won't update it after I hit "confirm." It's annoying.

Edit: the smoker itself is great.

What Masterbuilt does, it connects to smoker, albeit with difficulty. It lets you set temperatures and times. It lets you monitor temperatures….. Until… The phone sleeps, you go to a different app, take a phone call. Then it tells you it can’t find the smoker. In this case you must quit Masterbuilt relaunch Masterbuilt and select your smoker again.

No idea if it gives you alarms. I have never had it work long enough to find out. Edit to say after 8 hours of smoking I got an alarm to say my preheat was complete.🤦‍♂️

Was using the Classic app for over a year with no issues. Upgraded to Masterbuilt and found no improvement on features and actually looses actual temperature display often. Rebooting fixes it, but then it happens again. The Classic app is much more reliable On the plus side the graphics on the display have improved.

1. Why can’t I favorite the recipes I want to come back to?
2. For the recipes I want to use why can’t I click a button and it sets the this app to those initial settings?

Also: stats for cooking please! How long have I used the grill? When do I usually use it?

The smoker itself is amazing. Masterbuilt on the other hand needs work. The main issue being it’s constant drop in connection. I will be happy to revisit the review when the issue is addressed.

Masterbuilt is so useless they might as well not even have it. It disconnects from the smoker all the time and most of the time you can’t even set the temps from because nothing will happen.

Love the grill. LOVE it. Masterbuilt on the other hand is awful. Explain to me why I have to completely remove the grill from Masterbuilt and start fresh EVERY SINGLE time I use it?!

Cool idea, but Not working in synchronous with grill. The timer on the grill goes off well before it does on Masterbuilt . Patch work needed to fix this

Masterbuilt works when it wants to work. Constantly shows my smoker connected but says “looking for device”

Overall Masterbuilt works pretty well. I do find that sometimes I have to close out the grill and click on it again on the home screen before it will show me the temperature of the grill again.

One HUGE quality of life improvement would be the ability to set a custom sound for the alert. The iOS default can be hard to hear and gets lost among other app sounds being the same. Hopefully I’m not missing something obvious to set this. If I am, I’ll gladly come back and bump up my rating.

Looking forward to future releases keep it up. The alerts for the 4 individual meat thermometers was a nice addition.

Masterbuilt is too buggy. It was a huge selling point for this grill. But as soon as I lock my screen or go to a different app on my phone Masterbuilt loses connection with the grill. In order to get it to work again I have to delete the grill from Masterbuilt , then pair it again. I have already done this multiple times every time I use the grill. I don’t see other Wi-Fi enabled grills with this problem.
I see their was a recent update, so I deleted Masterbuilt and re downloaded. To make sure I have the latest version, and it still crashes. I am very disappointed to say the least, and hope there is a real fix soon. Before I push this to the curb and buy something else.

I have deleted and re downloaded Masterbuilt 5 times and it still will not connect. It will connect to my phone, but when it tries to connect to the internet, it has a connect alert. I also just bought a smart humidifier and it paired perfectly in a different app with the same internet connection and my phone so I know there’s nothing wrong on my end. The main reason we got this smoker was because of the uniqueness of the gravity feed and the blue tooth. So if this is not fixed soon, I will be returning this $800 smoker and telling all the bbq people I compete with at competitions to not buy it.

Masterbuilt looks much better than the old version, everything is on one screen and it finally works without having to constantly reconnect every time Masterbuilt goes to the background. Really excited to see what the new features are going to be when they come out!

I really like the new recipes update, however, I wish that when I clicked over to the Devices section on Masterbuilt and then go back to the recipes, that it would hold its place on the recipe. For now I have to go back and search for the recipe again which is a bit inconvenient. If they could update this it would be 5 stars!

If you’re having issues connecting Bluetooth, download the this app Classic App. I tired for hours on this one. Contacted customer service and he told me download the classic and it connected right away.

I appreciate the addition of the notification saying the grill has reached temp. But I get it repeatedly. Have opened Masterbuilt , pushed all the buttons on the smoker, can’t figure out how to acknowledge the alert so it doesn’t come back.

Hours long cook and I’m getting a notification every 3 minutes - pretty much have to turn those off.

App works fine except for its lack of alerting for when your internal temp is reached. It also fails to alert you of any major temperature drops due to running out of charcoal or loss of power to fan. These are rare occurrences for me, but the grill alerts you to the fire going out, and the internal temp being reached, so why doesn’t Masterbuilt relay that? You’re better off with an after market Bluetooth temp probe that actually alerts you to these things.

Love that I get notifications now when the grill reaches temperature, but I’m now getting too many. Every time the smoker/grill reaches close to its set temperature it tells me. I end up getting a notification almost every minute.

Probe temperature notifications are probably the most important to me; not so much a notification when the grill itself reaches its set point.

This is my 3rd or 4th this app Smoker and I paid extra for the Bluetooth connectivity. It took me over 30 minutes to get my iPad to connect the first time despite following the instructions. Trying on my iPhone as well. Deleting and re-installing Masterbuilt , and it finally connected and worked on my first cook. Now is a week later and it will not connect.

It will not let me connect to the pre-connected device, and will not connect when i try to Pair Again. It simply times out and says to contact support….which of course is a lame portion of Masterbuilt that makes you enter a lot of unnecessary information.

When you cant connect with Bluetooth you have to “try” to read the ridiculously impossible Blue display.

So disappointed in the quality so far.

App works great but it’s missing one key feature that is common on every other app like this. It needs notifications/alerts when a probe reaches target temperature. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to have an alert for when the grill temperature falls far below the set temperature. This will signal when you’re out of charcoal during a long smoke. With those features I’d give it a perfect score.

App worked perfect the first time I used the grill. After that it the grill won’t connect. So I removed my device and tried to re add it. Now it won’t connect to my Wi-Fi. I’ve deleted Masterbuilt several times even tried three different Wi-Fi networks. It won’t connect. Cannot connect the grill at all now.

Was told to uninstall the gray app and only use the orange app by the developer. This is laughable considering I only ever used the orange app hence why the reviews is here and not on the other app.

The this app app was working flawlessly and stayed connected to my gravity series 800. The overall design is much better and I can finally multi task while using my phone to monitor my cooks!! Nice work

Only thing it shows correctly for my gravity series 800 is the set temperature. Current temperature showed 253 degrees even though the smoker itself showed around 275. Probe showed 151 in Masterbuilt but 90 on the smoker. Verifying with a different thermometer the smoker was showing correctly on its display. How can you have an app that reports different temperatures from what’s displayed on the device itself?

Very surprised this app put this useless app out. Disconnects almost immediately when running the background, doesn’t track and display grill or food temperature, and zero customization. Absolutely worthless.

Worked briefly after installing but now won’t work. Wants to connect the grill to wifi after adding (even though it’s already on wifi). Fails to connect every time and then won’t add the grill. Profile page just spins with no end.

Old app worked fine with same network, continuing to use that.

Masterbuilt does not give audible notifications from the phone when the target grill or probe temperature is reached. The actual grill does give audible alerts, but I can’t hear it from inside my house. The old version of Masterbuilt handled this perfectly. This is horrible! Please fix asap!

Still having connection problems. Works a few times, then wont connect.

And probe temperature reading was made with the smallest font possible. Is this an eye test? I would like to see it on my iPad that I leave on my counter 6 feet away.

Can see the device is clearly connected to my phone. However, Masterbuilt doesn’t see the smoker at all. Could be better!

Bought this smoker specifically for Bluetooth connection and it won’t connect. Not very impressed at all. Seems like this issue has been going on for a while given the reviews. Disappointing for sure.

Easy to use with an uncomplicated interface. Works great to control the Gravity Series grill.

App is good at making adjustments and being convenient but why doesn't it alert me when my probe hits a target temp? What's the point of having it in Masterbuilt if it won't alert me?

Really need to improve Masterbuilt by providing notifications. Notifications when probs hit selected temp, when grill reaches set temp, when timer is done, etc.

Bought a new Materbuilt Smoker, attempted to connect via Bluetooth with 3 different phones. Within the Bluetooth settings of the phone, it shows connected, however Masterbuilt says it cannot find the smoker. Garbage app.

Masterbuilt needs review. I’m since installing the new app, I can’t set temps.
