What is StopTheMadness? StopTheMadness is a Safari extension that prevents websites from disabling user interface features in Safari and protects your privacy on the web. It offers unique features not available from ad blockers or any other apps. It is made by indie developer Jeff Johnson and provides documentation and email support.

Features

- Re-enables user interface features in Safari such as opening contextual menus, selecting, copying, cutting, and pasting of text, drag and drop, and AutoFill/autocomplete of passwords, emails, etc.

- Protects your privacy on the web by stopping Google AMP, removing tracking tags, stopping clickjacking, hyperlink auditing, tracking beacons, using the Page Visibility API, and URL shorteners.

- Bonus features include stopping videos from autoplaying, stopping sites from pausing your audio in a background app, showing native video controls, automatically selecting the highest video quality on YouTube, hiding annoying popup banners, adding your own site-specific CSS and JavaScript to web pages, custom URL redirects, stopping keyboard page zoom, enabling pinch-to-zoom on sites that prevent it, stopping "Are you sure you want to leave this page?" alerts, forcing external links to open in the current tab or a new tab, forcing images to the front, and warning when you paste or type beyond the maximum length in a password field or other text field.

It works!

I really wish the UX/UI was easier to understand without reading the long help page. Maybe the developer could add some hints ( like hit return to add a custom site; or nothing happens).

But overall this is a power user Safari extension.

Total gem!

The macOS version of StopTheMadness may be my favorite piece of software so I’m thrilled to have it on iOS too. Possibly the best deal in the AppStore. (Glowing review notwithstanding, I am not in any way affiliated with developer—aside from being a huge fan.) Seriously: a great deal for a great app.

Is it working?

Honestly can’t tell what it’s doing for me. I purchased on a whim and now keep trying to find the benefit. Maybe it’s obscured by my existing ad blocker. A better UI would help too. Whenever I change options , I can’t tell if I’m changing global settings or a specific site’s settings.

3 stars until features are better observed.

Amazing Developer Response

I emailed the dev with a request to add a feature to override the zoom settings of a website and within a week he had implemented it in the extension and it works perfectly. 5 stars easy!

So excited to be done with Google amp links. All of the other privacy features are really excellent to have as well. Will probably have to get this for my Mac now too.

Videos still chase me, but at least they’re not autoplaying!
