LG Soundbar App

I can’t believe how incompetent LGSoundbar is! I have the latest LG soundbar “LG SN11 something” and from the start it asks if the soundbar has a Wi-Fi button, it does not. Asks if it has a Bluetooth button it does not, and it asks if it has a Google button in which I do not want to connect with for reasons that will make this comment too long. I worked around it and went to my phones Bluetooth and found the speaker there and connected but LGSoundbar tells you to return and continue to work and does absolutely nothing. It stinks because with the previous version I was at least able to customize sound settings for the back and front speakers and this cannot be controlled through the remote. LG, I’m very surprised! Do better!

App won’t connect

At the time I’m wanting this LGSoundbar has a 1.6 star review. Like nearly every other person has started I can’t get LGSoundbar to connect to the speaker. My phone is connected via Bluetooth and plays music just fine. LGSoundbar asks to connect via WiFi then while searching asks to connect to Bluetooth ( even though I’m already connect). I’ve had it twice actually start to connect to WiFi asking for my password and the speaker actually says connected, but nothing from LGSoundbar . Then it starts over again repeatedly asking me to connect to Bluetooth ( again even though it already is). Seems like this has been an issue for a while with no fix in site. Come on LG app developers!

LG 55 QLED and LG sound bar SP8Y on HDMI ARC - still not working

LG 55 QLED and LG sound bar SP8Y only 3 months old (both) - tv cannot even start sound bar from HDMI ARC port 10% of the time. Terrible much more to say… I’ve tried everything and even when it comes on with the tv the sound gets out of sync all the time the longer I use it.. so it seems like a piece a junk technology in one or the other devices … or both. I changed out two older Samsung and Onyko receiver devices that would not start up together … thought using the same company and a simpler direct connection would surely fix it… WRONG $3500+ waste of time and money… still same issues.

Not recommended.

incredibly bad

LGSoundbar is minimum effort garbage that may work for you if you are lucky. For context, I'm trying to use it to configure an SP9YA soundbar.

To be clear, my desired result of using LGSoundbar is to have the bar connected to my wifi so that I can use it as an AirPlay speaker or whatever. LGSoundbar doesn't let you do much configuration that you can't do with the bar's remote, and the stuff unique to LGSoundbar seems of marginal benefit (at best) anyway.

So what's the problem? Well, the process of booting up LGSoundbar , connecting to the bar via Bluetooth, and getting it to connect to your wifi is poorly documented, poorly presented in the UI, and *incredibly* flaky. The first time I tried, it took ~5 tries and then worked for no apparent reason; then my cat somehow managed to factory reset the bar by walking over the buttons and then it took me ~10 tries to get it to connect again. There was no discernible difference between these attempts, and it's clear that the bar has no fundamental issue with being connected to my wifi, so what's the problem? Well, that's something only LG can figure out, and they obviously don't care.

Seriously, it's bad. Steer clear unless you *really* want to be able to AirPlay to your LG soundbar. And if you proceed past this point, may God have mercy on your soul.

Confusing and infuriating sums it up.

Purchased an LG SL8YG Dolby atmos soundbar a while back and LGSoundbar was already a huge headache, got it to work without using to a soundbar but I purchased the rear speakers yesterday which had its own connect box unit and connecting it was a nightmare as well, couldn’t even sync it let alone test out the rear speakers or customize the sound. I think I’m getting rid of the whole thing and going Sony or Samsung next. I’ll do my research to make sure they actually get some good engineers that can create a functioning app, Unlike this trash which I don’t understand why there’s a thinQ app for appliances and the tv but a completely SEPARATE app for the soundbars that don’t even work to begin with.

Won’t connect sound bar to wifi

LGSoundbar is junk. I mean come on, LG is a huge established company. They should be able to hire competent developers that can create an app that works especially when it’s an intrgual part of the experience of the device. I’m supposed to use LGSoundbar to connect my LG SP8YA sound bar to my home wifi. I can find sound bar with LGSoundbar but when I try to connect it to my wifi it simply won’t work. I’ve tried using on iOS 14 and iOS 15 on 3 different devices and it just doesn’t work. I also tried on two different routers, 2.4 and 5 ghz and nothing. LGSoundbar can’t get the sound bar to connect. This sound bar is expensive, it work with Alexia, Google, and Airplay 2. None of witch works if it can’t connect to wifi. Also, LG’s customer service is joke, the first rep I spoke to did t even know how AirPlay works.

Disappointing app

The sound bar I bough SP8YN was an upgrade from the previous 3 year old model LG sound bar I had. Got WI-FI hopping the Atmos would be great. However the tuning feature won’t work because WI-FI like everyone else won’t connect to LGSoundbar . I’ve tried everything. Only thing that works is to connect directly to the Wi-Fi from the settings in your phone. LGSoundbar will NOT connect no matter what I do. This causes you to lose all internet functions on your phone since obviously the Wi-Fi on the sound bar is not connected to the internet. Disappointing especially considering LG is a top tier electronics manufacturer. DONT get a LG sound bar if you want any internet connected functions.

Room Calibration Fails

I've tried to use the Room Calibration feature numerous times and it always fails. It says my subwoofer needs to be near my soundbar. It's maybe 4ft away on the floor. When I first bought my soundbar it ran fine. Then almost a year into owning it, the subwoofer wouldn't connect so I sent it into LG for service. They sent it back and Room Calibration hasn't worked since. I've factory reset my soundbar and have re-paired the subwoofer. It connects and works fine and has a solid green light and even makes noises when the calibration is running, but LGSoundbar ALWAYS says it's failed because of the subwoofer. Contacted LG about the issue and they told me I'd have to pay for a repair even though both devices are working fine and it only stopped being able to calibrate AFTER they sent the unit back.

App always disconnects from internet!

Have the sp9ya LG soundbar. LG decided it was wise to not have features on the remote for a $1000 sound bar. Can’t turn on and off night mode easily or DRC. Have no choice but to use LGSoundbar. After 24 hours, it disconnects from my network and I have to waste 20 minutes of my life to reset the whole sound bar and reconnect LGSoundbar to sound bar. If I’d known LGSoundbar was needed for the features of my sound bar and that LGSoundbar was extremely unreliable, I would have never purchased this LG sound bar. It’s a shame, because it sounds great and is a good match with my LG Oled. Get it fixed LG or, let me return your soundbar for another brand that has a full remote. Very unsatisfied…..

Soundbar Doesn’t Stay Connected

I will be returning my new LG soundbar because of how useless LGSoundbar is. I have a Bose soundbar and went through all of the steps to connect to LGSoundbar . I did it once and have never had to do it again. I decided to go with LG for another room since it’s slightly cheaper. LGSoundbar is fine when you’re connected, but I have to set it up *every* time I turn off my TV and come back. It is very annoying! I also don’t like that I need two different apps for music and soundbar settings. I can do all in one through Bose. The music app won’t work for my soundbar. Through tricky wording, the soundbar is advertised as wireless, but it really isn’t. I can’t connect my music through LGSoundbar . Returning my soundbar for something with a working app.

What were they thinking…or maybe they weren’t

I’m relatively new to all this new digital technology, arc Dolby, Atmos, etc. but I do know that I just shelled out over $4000 for a new LG TV and a new LG Sound Bar. The sound bar has been nothing but problems since day one losing connection frequently, confusing to operate and not reliable. LGSoundbar is buggy and that’s being kind. A complete confusing mess. Highly recommend trying to return your sound bar. If you can. I am unfortunately stuck with it pounding my head against the wall figuring out what’s going on… run don’t walk from this sound bar, let alone this sad excuse for an app that you literally need to make the sound bar work for the brief time that it does.

Always defaults to second Lg sound bar

After waiting and waiting for an updated sound bar app so I did not have to rely on Google assistant to check for firmware or to setup from scratch, this all arrived but always defaults to my other LgSk6 that is in the game room instead of my main and newest sound bar in the den, the Sn10Yg. Why can’t I set a primary startup sound bar and it retain it. Multiple steps to just adjust volume…

If you have trouble connecting read this!

Let me just start off by saying that the execution of an intuitive setup is terrible and has failed miserably.

After sever hours I finally figured out that in order to connect you need to connect to the sound bar as a wi-if network. For instance, on IOS, go to settings> wi-fi> then select the soundbar as the actual network. Once you do this, you can use LGSoundbar to connect and adjust settings. I lose access to the internet by doing this, and I am sure there is a way to maybe setup as air play or something but haven’t figured that part out yet. I just switch back and forth as needed. I hope they improve LGSoundbar soon, but looking at how long this has been an issue, I highly doubt it.

No guidance on how to resolve issues

So I paid like $800 for this system to use with my LG TV, both of which are advertised as having WOWCAST. speakers have connected to WIFI perfectly fine. TV is also connected to WiFi. Yet for some reason the TV cannot connect to the speaker. It doesn’t see it. No instructions through LGSoundbar or anywhere else. I’ve also tried using the AI room calibration and it’s failed every time. LGSoundbar is almost useless. For $800, I really expected more. Or at least for the thing to work as advertised. Last time I buy from LG.

Doesn’t work with WPA2 or WPA3 security

LGSoundbar forces you to the ThinQ app, which doesn’t let you specify WPA2 security. It won’t connect to WiFi router unless I lower security setting to WPA. My LG G4 OLED wont register with the S95TR soundbar since latest update. This makes it impossible to use the built in wireless WOWCast feature. I’m regretting buying the S95TR.

Note: I was able to set the WiFi password and security by using my iPhone WiFi settings after putting the soundbar into WiFi setup mode by pressing the soundbar WiFi. Button until it blinked three white leds. Then I used the iPhone to enter the password.

The ThinQ app needs fixing to allow this or the instructions should explain the alternate method which I actually found in an internet search.

Quality of life feature missing

I just got the LG S90QY, which LGSoundbar supports. Setup went fine, if a bit clunky. Options are sparse - but the soundbar is fairly simple so this makes sense. One huge missing feature is the status of signal information. LGSoundbar will tell you when it’s getting atmos, presumably when it’s getting dts as well - though my source (Apple TV 4k) isn’t setup to send that. What it doesn’t tell you is anything regarding the channels when LPCM is sent. It just says PCM. It would be super helpful for LGSoundbar or the bar to report if that PCM signal is 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1. This is frustrating especially when setting up as you want to make sure things are working the way you expect and as far as I can tell there’s no good way to do that.

Just ok, needs some more work from LG

The LG soundbar remote app is okay overall. It’s pretty nice that it allows you to control all the functions of the speaker directly from your phone, which makes for a more seamless experience. However, one drawback is that LGSoundbar disconnects every time the TV turns off, which can be quite annoying. The workaround is to refresh LGSoundbar and manually reconnect the TV to the soundbar, but it would be better if this issue didn’t happen in the first place.

Works perfectly fine 🤷‍♂️

Not sure why all the bad reviews? Unless the issues were fixed recently. I used to have the old LG Wi-Fi sound bar app and it was discontinued. Installed this today and I had no issues connecting my sound bar. Yes you have to connect to sound bars Wi-Fi when first trying to connect to app, but after that you get connected right back to your home Wi-Fi. So not sure why some people keep saying you have to stay connected to sound bar Wi-Fi to use app to control bar or change settings. Haven’t lost connection with the sound bar yet. Everything works fine.

This app has no reason to be this low

LGSoundbar must been bad a launch not now LGSoundbar is amazing I been trying to up my bass and I did it thanks to LGSoundbar I could adjust my speaker and woofer to how I want it also quick tip after your done the sound bar may not play on your tv turn off your tv and the soundbar and then the TV only and it should be like normal and with the new settings installed YOUR WELCOME

Better than I had expected

When an app is this lowly rated, I was concerned I might be downloading a scam or broken mess. I wanted a way to turn off the display of ARC, which seemed to always be on, and I thought there had to be something else useful given the remote settings button is terrible. I was able to download the latest software updates, change some sound settings, and changed the display to auto-off. So much better than I expected given the low rating, but I’m glad I used it and made those changes. Feel free to use this review because it’s insane how many bad reviews LGSoundbar has given it does everything I could have asked for.
