Al Jazeera Reviews

I found out today that the original Al Jazeera English app is no longer available and so I reluctantly downloaded the new Al Jazeera app, which advertises its new dark mode design. However, this new dark mode is not only default, but it’s the only screen mode. Also, I find that the stories and the programmes are very much cluttered. There is no organisation across this new app and it’s quite frustrating. I like to stream “Inside Story” and when I type the title of the programme in the search bar, nothing appears. On the original app, you could tap the “watch” tab and scroll through every programme Al Jazeera offered and even read descriptions of each installment. I hope this is fixed in a future update because it makes for a frustrating experience.

No doubt it is an amazing app. My frustration is when I open AlJazeera in Arabic it always as me to get the newest version and so I did but without any use. I am able to open it but if I need to come back to it , it will ask the same exact updates. I would definitely give it a 5 stars if it worked properly when opening AlJazeera

Al Jazeera has been the only “clean” news source - trustworthy, factual, relevant. BUT the new app…….no. First, the portrait mode is too frustrating to use on my iPad - it needs to go back to landscape. MORE importantly, there’s now no way to load breaking news or up-to-the-minute reporting that I want to read. Having to wade through a mashup of opinions (🤮), guess content based on a pretty picture isn’t for me. There’s no organization now. I can’t tell if what story I opened is hyperbole or editorial until after I’ve opened it.

I’ve stopped using AlJazeera , relying solely on Reuters as my news source. I hope the Al Jazeera developers quickly give us back the old app - it was fabulous: “latest news” categorization and landscape mode on ipad.

This is an impressive use of the technology, and works flawlessly on my iPhone 13 Pro.

Scrolling through headlines and summaries is fast and easy. Want more details on one? Simply tap to expand to the full report. Finished? Tap again and the story instantly shrinks back to its summary so you can continue to scroll to other stories.

All this functionality is tied to a beautiful screen display. (The news of late is horrible, but at least AlJazeera is pleasant to look at.)

It's a UI that I've seen nowhere else, so perhaps the novelty/unfamiliarity has prompted some less-than-stellar reviews. But I couldn't be happier with it. Other news apps should consider using a similar way of posting reports.

Al Jazeera does great when it comes to reporting, and although I do enjoy the layout of your old Al Jazeera app, the one with the orange icon, AlJazeera makes it even more simple and easy to use for any age. This is one I would recommend to people who love to catch up on the latest coverage, people who support Al Jazeera, and people who tend to enjoy a minimalistic feel nowadays.

First of all if it ain’t broke don’t fix it ! Why do you make a app that that is more difficult to use and then say it is much easier to use ? Make it make sense ! And you can’t find what your looking for compared to the original Al Jazeera English app ( the orange colored app ) fix and update the original and take this nonsense down. The original used too be better esp when looking for older documentaries like Al Jazeera world…. Would have given AlJazeera 0 but the lowest is 1 star and it’s not even worth that !

One of the most important features in today’s app is landscape mode, and this one does not support it. So videos look tiny in cellphone and tablets. I will keep the old app!

I enjoyed and had the orange app Al Jazeera as one of my go to news apps, this I can’t seem to use landscape on iPad. And I use it mostly on an iPad attached to a keyboard so having to turn the iPad just doesn’t work for me. Hopefully this will be added or if already added will be made default instead of the portrait it currently only is. Leaving this review in hopes they fix it as the news is one of the less biased I’ve found.

Al Jazeera has become my source of information for news and documentaries. Documentaries are so structured so well. You guys in this app make me feel as if I am there when news break. I am sick n tired of political crap found in major news network like CNN, fox news MSNBC etc. good job great journalist work.

The old app was perfectly fine. Why would they force us to switch from an app that works great to this piss-poor thing tryna combine some unlimited scrolling feature with news. i just wanna see whats hot, read some opinion pieces and then go about my day. who wants to just keep scrolling thru content until they pass out? Please bring the old one back.

AlJazeera is a MAJOR downgrade from the previous well designed and constructed app balancing essays, printed news with audiovisual content. The new app requires a language selection every time it is opened. Can language settings be permanent? Such an annoying and inconvenient step. AlJazeera rigidly opens only in portrait orientation? Can it be configured as the previous app that adapts to the devices orientation?

This new version of AlJazeera does not work at all for me. I am a hard core AJ fan and used the prior version all the time but this version is a disaster: the text is unreadable and nothing works. I have bad eyes and use a large font which could be the problem but the prior version had no problems with large fonts. Anyways it is virtually unusable for the time being,

The new app is much less versatile than the old one, which already wasn’t great. Specifically, the old app had the option to filter news by region — this was my main source for Africa news. The new app can’t do that, and if you search for a term (eg “Africa”) there’s no way to filter by date. Al Jazeera is a fantastic news source — why can’t they make a decent app???

If you guys want to release a decent app please keep updating it, and keep responding to our comments and feedback, otherwise just stay with the website.
This new app most of the times stuck on the opening screen, and never loads.
When it loads it’s not easy to personalize sections, still very hard to navigate.

This is actually worse than the english app they got rid of. Make sure your new app is bug free and ready before killing the old.

No landscape for tablets after reporting that the view was bad. So instead of fixing, they are forcing/limiting. Hire some new developers that can actually do a good job.

Making useless app, lose client. Deleting app.

Dark back ground, not having option to change is big negative the whole setting and when want to maximise the picture in segment not working till,
I am not happy, since your new app after few days lost interest . Your old logo and arrangement was great, who ever came up with new version did not pay attention to the cross section of your app user

I lost my favorite new app

I am a terribly disappointed loyal viewer. Contrary to what the description says, the new app is a huge downgrade compared to the old one. It does not provide easy access to content, programmes and archives are simply inaccessible - you can only stream the latest videos. Search is a disaster. On top of it all, it does not support landscape mode. This new app is simply bad!

First fail. Design favors broadcast video over print compared to the prev app. But the videos don't play. Also, the design -- tap once to exit a story -- could use a lot of improvement bc sometimes a scroll is perceived as a tap, so it's pretty annoying.

I’ve been avoiding downloading this version because it lacks landscape view, but was finally forced to as Al Jazeera no longer supports the previous version. C’mon guys, it’s the 21st century! Every app should have landscape view as an option.

Very biased against Israel, and to a lesser extent, the United States. News from the Islamic Militant point of view.

Black background is not easy to read. There’s a lot of space for articles—too much. I want to look at a news app and see lots of options, not scroll forever. Don’t like AlJazeera at all.
