Useless

Maybe it’s the latest update but all I get is a white screen when I open glinet. Have reinstalled ,turn my phone off and back on. Nothing works. glinet is garbage.

App has potential, but needs work

glinet could be good, but isn’t yet ready for Prime Time.

Firstly, it asks for the router password, which is understandable, but it isn’t clear whether it’s phoning home with that password (as it apparently offers a cloud service for syncing passwords). So i have a trust issue with glinet.

[Note: Apple offers free iCloud syncing for app developers, so at the very least, they should be using (or at least offer) iCloud rather than “GoodCloud.”]

Secondly, while it’ll run on an iPad, it’s not designed with iPads in mind. Granted, it doesn’t purport to be an iPad app (only an iPhone app), but it would be so much more useful if it played nicely with iPads… and operated in landscape orientation!

Perhaps they figure that using the web interface on a larger screen eliminates the need for glinet on an iPad? Might be. But i think glinet could be very nice to have on an iPad, if for no other reason than to monitor router status, etc.

And wouldn’t it be nice if it had a Widget for the Home Screen, showing Network Connection and VPN status?

It would be useful if glinet — and the Widget — had a red dot indicator, if a firmware update was available.

I can understand them not offering a Luci interface in glinet , but at the very least, they should offer a web link to the Luci interface, so it’s a one-click operation to open in Safari.

Finally, how about a few more screenshots on glinet ’s page in glinet Store?

App not showing teathering activity while web interface will.

Download glinet to help configure my Slate router while traveling. Finding it will not show the correct teathering status. Finding the web interface works much better.

When the app is set to Chinese, the VPN menu does not appear.

2024年11月20日的update

When glinet is set to Chinese, the VPN menu does not appear.

glinet claims that it does not collect user data, but based on my experience, it definitely collects user data and reports it to China’s Great Firewall system. If you configure a VPN through glinet while in China, it usually won’t last more than 72 hours before the Great Firewall blocks the corresponding port.

Eventually stopped working

Money down the drain and some settings in glinet simply never applied. I literally threw the router away and moved on to a better product because even returning it would have been a hassle.

What was wrong with the old app that worked!?

The old app allowed you to manage a local device. The new one is completely useless for a traveling router. Why change something that works for something that does nothing!?

Option to manage local device is gone

In the old app if you were connected to a device with no internet access glinet gave an option to manage a local device so you could configure the internet. glinet does not give that option making it pretty useless for a travelling router.

Couldn’t use to setup any of my devices

I own many GL products as I think they are fantastic devices (creta, beryl, brume 2) but glinet can never connect to them or find them. The old app they have before this one used to work perfectly but this one is no go. I have to do everything through the admin panel which always works.

No admin web

There’s no way to reset your router and reach the proper admin page, it just says for you to put in a password which you don’t have because you weren’t able to set it up in the first place. Support is nonexistent and this product is quite bad.

Became useless recently

Wonder if the devs even test the releases. For example on Mudi devices (their flagship) if you go to cellular settings you just get a white screen. Used to work fine before 🤷‍♂️

App is very limited administrative access

Download app. Put in required information and my router ID. That’s as far as it let me go. No option to go back to main dashboard for editing or review. Maybe another universal app available?

Junk app

Got my router today and downloaded glinet to set it up. It didn’t work so I just followed the instructions with my router. Use the local ip address to control everything. glinet wants access to your location to run. Deleted after it forced me to keep it on.

Admin web page on router works, app does not

For all but the simplest use cases glinet does not help you connect the router. If there’s a paywall, it never works. However the router’s admin web page always works. It scans the available networks, finds them all, and connects to the one I choose without any drama. glinet does none of those things.

♿️ non-standard app UI

2023-07-27 update: They’ve finally added dark mode! While this fixes things for me, glinet ’s UI remains non-standard (for example, the toggle switches don’t obey the “On/Off Labels” preference), so users with different accessibility needs may still encounter problems.

[Previous review: This is the first app I’ve encountered where its bright white UI color scheme couldn’t be fixed by using the Smart Invert per-app accessibility override. Please provide a UI which respects your users’ accessibility needs.]

Won't connect to Brume 2

I follow the steps to add the MT2500A Brume 2 VPN router using the 'Sub Router Mode', but glinet won't go past the 'Power up the router' page. I keep selecting the 'Next' button, but glinet does nothing else. They say in the help to add the IP manually, but glinet never asks for a manual IP, nor could I find anywhere in glinet to enter one.

Can’t be just for an iPhone?!

Be nice if glinet can be used on iPad. Easy to navigate on an iPad, then an iPhone.

Very good app to setup GL-Inet router, although missing an important feature

Really like glinet , good UI and functionality to setup router from scratch or adjust common configuration settings!

I’d like to see one very key functionality in the future, pretty much a reason I bought the router - travel.

If only glinet could automate the most common common workflow dealing with captive portals and internet connection.. Today it is totally up to a user and app isn’t helping at all, and even confused me as I was expecting it offer some help. Something like this would be awesome:
- router and app should detect if there are internet issues and detect captive portals automatically
- then router needs to prohibit clients from connecting to the outbound internet for security; disable DNS settings, AdGuard and VPN
- then iOS app would prompt in a separate
window to deal with captive portal, similarly how MacBooks and iPads and iPhones do today
- alternatively offer an option to import MAC address (the only reliable option in my experience so far)
- once connection to the internet is established, enable back all the DNS, AdGuard and VPN settings and after that enable clients to access the internet securely.

Something like this would make this the best secure travel router friendly to everyday users!

Works well.

Using glinet with an AXT1800 and it has been solid.

Not sure about the other reviews, the app works great

I almost didn’t download glinet based on the negative reviews, but I’m glad I did. It has all the settings I can foresee one needing and it’s all a lot easier to use than trying to do the web interface from your phone. Simple things like changing the SSID and password for the router are readily available, as are the VPN settings. Overall I think it’s definitely worth it. Especially if you travel frequently and will be connecting your router to other WiFi.

Does the job

I have no issues managing my Slate router with glinet.
