App Crashing

v3.0.0 keeps crashing randomly while studying for the NCE. Super frustrating.

Can’t make test on app

Your not able to create test o TrueLearnSmartBanks and you should be able to copy and paste the answers for digital note taking.

Missing crucial features that competitors offer

I’ve only been using TrueLearn for a little while since I recently started anesthesia residency, and while the TrueLearn questions and explanations for the Anesthesiology ITE/Boards seem good, TrueLearnSmartBanks leaves a lot to be desired, including a couple of critical features.

1) The option to download your quizzes so you can study on the go without an internet connection.

AMBOSS has offered this feature in their QBank app for several years and it is extremely useful. Whether you’re in the airport, on a flight, on a vacation, on a long car ride, in a dead-zone within your hospital, etc. AMBOSS lets you download quizzes so you can use some of your precious spare moments to study, but the TrueLearn app is completely inoperable as soon as you lose your internet connection. The TrueLearn app seems like it doesn’t even cache the question(s) you were Currently studying so you can at least review the last question you did or finish the last few questions in the quiz you were already taking.

2) A mechanism for providing specific feedback on questions or explanations in TrueLearnSmartBanks .

The only feedback you can give in TrueLearnSmartBanks is a thumbs up or thumbs down for the “quality” of a given question. There should also be a mechanism for users to provide some free-text feedback on questions, even if it has to be categorized by the user first by choosing an option like “incorrect answer” or “typo in question”, “typo in explanation”, “missing information”, “technical issue”, “unclear explanation”, etc. For example, if a question is good and almost everything in the explanation is correct and helpful, but there’s a significant typo in the explanation, then a thumbs up or down is not sufficient to clearly communicate the issue with the question and it will take longer to identify and correct the issue with that question.

Err how do you highlight

Above

Needs support for landscape mode

TrueLearnSmartBanks works fine and has great graphics, easy to use interface, yet TrueLearnSmartBanks does not support landscape mode which is a big factor when is comes to IPad since many cases and covers have keyboards. I would definitely give it 5 stars if it not were for that.

Good

I like the interface but I’ve noticed two flaws so far. It gives a demo to tap twice on an answer choice to strike through it but then it doesn’t show that that answer choice is striked through until it shows your answers at the end of the quiz. It also at times is stating that I am getting some questions incorrect then stating that they are correct

No highlighting on mobile

Cannot highlight on mobile, makes it hard to review questions, bc you have to reread the whole question. UWorld mobile has a feature where pressing and holding and dragging lets you highlight on mobile, wish TrueLearn could implement that.

Can’t create tests based on clinical subject

Overall, TrueLearnSmartBanks is decent. However, it is very frustrating that we are unable to create test based on clinic subjects like surgery or internal medicine on TrueLearnSmartBanks , but we are able to do so on a computer.

Okay but could be optimized

It has the question bank and the content is the same along with the media. If it stopped right here, it would be a 5/5 for me. However, it seems to not be optimized. I have had several times where the exams/quizzes crash, I reboot to find my quiz submitted(?) with all of the remaining (blank) questions submitted and missed.

The other main complaint is the use of emojis within the score review percentage. I have to be honest, I have no idea what any of them mean beyond the giant smile. It seems gimmicky and it’s unhelpful. In its place, I feel that if it gave peer’s performance by your score, that would be more useful. I think this is a sign of many things trying to increase brevity and dumb things down to emojis but it comes off as superficial, gimmicky, unhelpful, and I end up opening the quiz to see what my percentage compares to my peers (in numbers - not emojis) anyway

Needs some work

Yes you can do questions but you should be able to easily highlight things especially in the explanation (since you’re usually not around your notes when using the online app — it would make it so much easier to review your questions and add info to notes later)

Gets the job done

Overall, does what it’s supposed to do. It does not go into landscape mode, no cross out feature, and I constantly need to log into TrueLearnSmartBanks (most frustrating). Hopefully at least the log in feature will be included in the next update. I use my laptop if I want to use the other features.

iOS 18 update

So much better with app overhaul. Easy to use and looks really nice. Keeps crashing now when taking notes during exam reviews. Possibly since iOS 18 just came out.

Almost perfect

If it had a highlight option it would be 5 stars easily

Not bad!

Solid start, team. Would love a highlight feature and would also like to suggest development of a wrong-answer flash card study tool. Easy to use in the car and on the go. Notification reminders like the old text feature would be a cool way to increase traffic!

Really helpful to have on the go!

Being able to have access to my question bank while on rotations has been really helpful so that I can squeeze in prep time even if I’m not on my laptop. I like that all my work carries over between my computer and TrueLearnSmartBanks and I can see my main performance information.

True Learn helped me PASS and that’s all that matters!

I used TrueLearnSmartBanks religiously along with its recently improved website and I just barely passed my FNP AANP exam! The questions helped me learn how to answer, find patterns, and master a lot of content! True learn is the best!

Very good question bank, bad app

Dashboard doesn’t even work to show you any stats when you pull up like the web browser version does. Does fine when you create a new test and answer questions on it, but frankly is not very slick, lacking in features, and occasionally buggy especially when considering how much the overall question bank costs to subscribe to in the first place

Great for test prep and the app is clean

I had heard from previous reviews and others TrueLearnSmartBanks was not worth using but they re-vamped it recently and its great! It has all the functionality of the website with some extra convenience and features. The content of the questions and explanations is great practice.

Needs a landscape mode if they’re advertising for tablet or ipad

Overall TrueLearnSmartBanks is fine, gets the job done but definitely only really usable on a phone. I had a total of 3 assessments that I had done, but because perhaps because I downloaded TrueLearnSmartBanks only after I did two of them, those didn’t show up on my phone so I was not able to review them on the go. Overall, the one BIG fix or update needed is a landscape mode for the iPad, even if it’s just the same dimension but rotates when the iPad is horizontal.

The app works fine

Not sure why TrueLearnSmartBanks has so many bad reviews it works fine. Can’t figure out how to cross out answer choices or go landscape mode but its a mobile version. If I needed all the features i’d use my laptop
