Server in your pocket

I received and email this morning, “server in your pocket” I am intrigued. So I open the email, which I rate for me. I mainly read the titles and that is it, if the email is from a company. But who doesn’t want to install Plex server on their phone. So opened it with anticipation. Only to find that it was a server monitor and controller. Sad that it isn’t what I wanted but easier access into my Plex server would be helpful. And it does and I do like it for what it does but please someone make a Plex server version for iOS I will gladly buy a second phone to have a mobile server or better yet when my phone ages out I will use it for the mobile server.

Just ok

I like the idea of having a way to monitor the server remotely. PlexDash helps, but it’s got the potential to being a better app. Having the server graphs is very nice once you figure out how to find them. I like Varys because that’s a button right there, but that’s an enhancement request really.

I hope to see better reporting in PlexDash. Varys allows me to see down to who is playing what on what device. PlexDash seems primitive to that feature. To be honest you can’t even manage home users or friends to the server from PlexDash .

When you view the server logs in PlexDash , it infinitely loops the log and you have to crash PlexDash to go back to the previous page. It makes it useless when it comes to troubleshooting issues.

To be honest and I know this sounds dumb, but I’d just add this to the original Plex app for admins profiles. It’s sort of silly to have so many apps to do something so simple as this. I can almost see a need like plexamp, but even that app seems like it could be migrated to the original app too.

I still use Varys to monitor my server and for a couple bucks I was able to unlock some great reporting features that are very handy actually. Keep up the hard work and I know this can be a much better app!

Currently Broken.

Update: App functionality has been restored, can once again recommend PlexDash, and the premium Plex pass subscription required to use it.

Unfortunately PlexDash is currently in a non-functional state. The developers are aware of the situation, and a cofounder of the company joked publicly about having to catch up on updates first, after ignoring this ‘Premium’ app for over a year. Just kinda disappointed after having finally decided to buy a Plex Pass last week after debating it for months. (As always the main apps and media server are best in class, and getting better almost by the day)

Great quick access but lacking with History details

This really does deserve 5 stars because it does what it needs to with showing you statistics and live Plex Server stats. However, there really should be a change made to this. I really think that recently played should include everything played, even if just for a minute. Not only display files played in there entirety. No one watches credits for 10 minutes unless dozed off or away from the screen. So it really is extremely inaccurate.

Plex Rules

There’s always ‘I wishes’ in any app. But this one’s useful as a run a plex server for my family / friends and this has most of what I need to maintain quality of service for my users and manage things on-the-go without having to remote in to my server or pull up a web browser to access certain settings and view status reports. Please continue development on this incredible useful and stable app!!! :) I own multiple plex lifetime passes and will continue to financially support this project however I can. Thanks !

Steadily cultivating... Keeps improving by the little tweaks

Would be a 4.5 or 5/5, but I believe PlexDash can be refined even further... I'm eager to see how it is after additional tweaks and updates. For observing your Plex Media Server, it's a MUST have. A few additional capabilities from Dash could make it nearly a perfect Plex iOS app. So far, I am satisfied with Plex Dash’s abilities and it's one of the main applications I utilize daily. Top 5 without thinking, maybe top 3. Tremendous job! Continue its cultivation. Thanks.

Outstanding, needs a feature

Love this. Plex writes real quality apps and is always innovating. Their suite is fantastic. For those of us who are into digital media storage and want to get our nerd on a bit, this is pretty great. Data, trending...pretty cool.

My one ask for PlexDash would be a way to manage playback. I can see who is streaming what in the “Now Playing” section, but I’d like the option to stop their session should the need arise. As is I have to log onto the PC.

Keep up the good work!

Amazing!

Finally, an official PLEX-made Server Activity App.
Works great. Love it. I will definitely be using this everyday. Very competitive with Tautulli and Varys. However, I did find one bug;

I launched PlexAmp and played any song/album, as soon as playback stops I thought it would disappear from Plex Dash, but it doesn’t. I tried it with the regular Plex app and it works great, shows up and disappears like usual. I am not too sure if this is a PlexAmp issue or Plex Dash, just thought I should let you know.

One feature I would like to see included on the expanded view of now playing is Bandwidth currently used.

For example; Let’s say a movie is 48mbps, with PGS Subtitles on it would then be using around 80-90mbps. It shows on Tautulli and Varys but not on Plex Dash. I would like to see this implemented. I can already view the bitrate of each film so you are already halfway there.

Thank you

Adequate

Well PlexDash displays server information adequately it’s still needs a lot of improvement. The best example is the library‘s view. When you open one of the libraries in this you have only two options a big picture of a single video or a little picture of a single video at a time. If it were displayed more like in the Plex app used for viewing the videos then it wouldn’t take so long to scroll through and edit information if needed. It just feels clunky and not as easy to use as the original Plex app and should match that as much as possible.

A Great Start, Needs More Admin Functions

I LOVE that we’re getting this and it all just worked on sign in, but I immediately missed the ability to set custom artwork via url and upload, grid view when viewing libraries, and most other admin functions like emptying trash, renaming and deleting media, selecting database sources, etc.

So I think it’s a great start, but has a way to go yet before I can consider parting ways with server management via the web UI, which is ultimately what I’m hoping for (5 star rating reserved for that). Either way, thanks Plex for being awesome and for taking these first steps!

By

Tentative 5 stars

I have loved having my plex setup and the company has been updating and optimizing for years. They also have been taking peoples feedback and don’t just stick it to the end user. My only complaint about the dash app is monitoring is not great it doesn’t show much time or let you go back and save logs or see further back what was your server doing so it gets 4 stars for now but if they fix that issue I’m going to 5

By

Not there yet...

An app for admins should have ALL Server admin functions available in PlexDash . Seems like a waste not to be able to manage all server settings from PlexDash . User Management, Remote Access, Library Agents, Database optimization, bundle cleaning, trash emptying etc., seem like no brainer functions for a power user. PlexDash doesn’t seem like it offers that much more than the Plex app in its current state. Plex team, please deliver a true power user set of features tuned for admins. If one has to go to a web browser to complete an admin function, PlexDash’s purpose stands in question.

By

Helpful App

Very good app, something I’ve definitely been waiting for; though I can’t deny I wish the full server settings were available through PlexDash easily.
Edit: needs more features for sure, but I look forward to them! Specifically, I want to be able to see device history or all devices- whether or not they are actively playing content. In addition, the interface that lists movies is incredibly slow to go through.

Convenient that it Exists

Is it the most feature for app for managing your server? Not at all. Is it super convenient to have a dashboard of your server activity at your fingertips at all times? Absolutely. There are many worlds where I could imagine Plex not even taking the time to make PlexDash and I am super glad they did. It only does a few things, but it does them super well.

By

Nice spinning icon on blank screen

It should be noted that this caused if you do not allow outside access to your Plex server via the web. Not sure why I can not monitor internally only. I abhor open ports in firewalls.
Plex seems to be listening and did adjust this issue. I closed the external access and it is working.
It does seem that the play history doesn’t work without outside access. Kinda a nice feature I thought.

By

Great to check out my music stats

I like using PlexDash to checkout my music stats of what I’ve listened to the most etc. I’d like the ability to have a pull to refresh in the top charts section instead of having to force close PlexDash to refresh this section. And I’d also like the ability to show more than 10 artists in the top charts.

By

More features needed!

I use this almost everyday to refresh my library. I prefer using this over the web to trigger the scan. However, it would be nice to also have the ability to edit an item’s tag rather than just being able to edit the cover.

Plex

We love. If you’re looking at PlexDash then you already know about it and the people that complain especially since there is a free version should consider paying so you can get the beta version Epix is a lot of the problems that you’re having in the free invest in what you’re using

Good not Great

Good bit of features available that makes accessing PlexDash better than the web app via mobile. Could do with ability to refresh metadata and update tags/info. Free app, good quality, no complaints at the end of the day.

Best tool for monitoring your Media Server

PlexDash is a vital tool used in my arsenal for managing and controlling my media server on the go. A majority of the time I use it just to ensure my media server is up & running.

I can still perform basic functions and controls, as if I were on desktop.

By

It “just worked”

After installation and sign in, it immediately showed data from my 3 servers. Right now I would normally switch between 3 instances of Tautulli to get the same data.

That was not a dig at tautulli either.

App not working with my iPhone

I installed PlexDash and it had me login and then just sits and clocks.
I have the most recent iOS version (13.4.1) and I even attempted to uninstall and reinstall PlexDash .
I’m not upset that it’s not working since it is in the testing phase. I just thought that I would provide this rating to help the troubleshooting process.

The plex app we needed since the beginning

It’s finally here! Native app based server monitoring! What took you so long? Wish it could handle all notifications though, but for now the OG app is handling notifications well.

By

Cool idea, looking forward to more

Nice basic idea for folks on the go. Looking forward to seeing it evolve. As currently implemented seems a better fit for the main app.

By

Great Start

Pasting an image URL for posters and being able to manage tags would be my big two requests. Along with even more graphs. All the graphs!

By

Loaded after multiple attempts

Reinstalled PlexDash and had to be on LTE to log in.

By

Yeeessssssss!!!

Just what I like to see. Surprise! Here’s an awesome app to monitor the activity of your server.

By

Some improvement needed

After launch app prompts for login credentials. After login app presents a black screen which never goes away and the interface never appears. IPhone X running iOS 13.4.1

By

Black screen too

Same as others. I put in credentials, then get a black screen which never goes away. Reopening app does nothing. iPhone 7 running iOS 13.4.1

By

Black screen

My Plex app works fine but dash asked for credentials and that was it, spinning. Closed app and reopened then just black screen. Not working.

By

Blank, Pointless

The issues getting this to even —work— aside; leave it to Plex to create something truly useless.

Open-source stuff like Tautulli already exist, give better information, and don’t require literally the slowest app I’ve ever used.

Did you guys somehow shim all of electron into PlexDash but twice? Why is it so terrible?

By

Stuck after login

Same as others have reported, get a spinning wheel after login. iOS 13.4.1 on iPhone XS Max.

Don’t know if this is related, but PlexDash Store “Get” button does not change to the “Download” cloud icon when I try to reinstall PlexDash after deleting, and I have to re-authenticate with Face ID to re-download, like the first time. Other deleted apps can be re-downloaded simply by clicking the cloud, no re-authentication required.
