Nice, thorough app, with a couple minor annoyances

PodcastApp does a great job of enablng me to find new content, and of course listening to it. I definitely like it better than Apple's Podcasts app.

I do have a couple minor gripes, though. Clicking on anything seems to take a few attempts before it works for me. I use a Wacom tablet for input, and that might have something to do with it, but this issue doesn't happen in any other app I use. So I'm blaming Podurama and the way it handles input for this one.

Another little thing is that when viewing a scrollable list of podcasts, I can't use the page up and page down keys on my keyboard to scroll. I have to click and drag the scrollbar (once it appears--which is another thing that bugs me, not exclusive to Podurama). Just enable page up and page down support, please. Much quicker and easier!

Other than those nit-picky things, this is an excellent app!

Multi platform

It's easy to create playlists on the Mac which then sync to iOS for playing.

My Stitcher Replacement

I was a Stitcher user for over a decade. After trying at least 10 other apps, Podurama is where I’ve landed. It still has some improvements to match some of my favorite Stitcher features, but surpasses others. The key thing it has is sorting new episodes by my top podcast. They have a default of 20 episodes, but if I set it to 1, it keeps me on the newest! The UX of auto play could use some work, as I still have to fumble around to find the play button, but it still works! I love that you can put multiple tags on Podcasts and group them, that you can share groups with others, there is an ability to see recently played and the ability to rate episodes! Looking forward to spending the next 10+ years on Podurama.

CarPlay Issues Every Update

Running version 4.1.2.
Podurama has so much potential. All of the features most people are looking for are included in PodcastApp. The only issue is that CarPlay never works properly. I have been trying to enjoy PodcastApp for many months, but CarPlay is always a problem. Every update seems to bring CarPlay “fixes” (including 4.1.2), but this is never the case. Podurama does not open in CarPlay. It either is a blank screen or the vehicle screen reads “unable to connect to Podurama”. The Podurama app recomends opening Podurama on your phone and “checking CarPlay now”. I have tried opening the Podurama app before connecting to CarPlay and while being connected to CarPlay. This works maybe 40% of the time (on the occasions that it does work, it takes a good 10 to 20 seconds for PodcastApp to load onto the screen). It is not a fix and is also quite dangerous if you need to turn on your phone and open Podurama while driving. This defeats the safety and purpose of CarPlay. I am driving a 2023 Kia Sportage. I have also replicated this issue in three other vehicle makes and models. It is not an issue for Apple Podcasts or for Overcast which gives me hope that this issue can be fixed for Podurama.

Hands down the best podcast app out there!!

I’ve tried MANY but none had all the features I wanted — many of which honestly weren’t so far-fetched or fancy — but PodcastApp, quite unexpectedly, had them and more. One of the key things I needed in an app was to allow me to create playlists quickly and easily for all the different categories of stuff I listen to. PodcastApp allows you to do so AND lets you tag things, which I ca. See coming in handy.

It’s got a ton of features which makes it the most intuitive app out there. I don’t often leave reviews but I wanna thank you guys and recommend that others sign up ASAP for the free sync (because it works phenomenally).

App cost me $14; cannot recommend at all

I submitted this feedback to the developers as well, but received no response. I pay for cellular data by the gig, so the first thing I did after downloading PodcastApp was use PodcastApp 's settings to turn cellular data off for downloads and streaming. Still (with those settings off), PodcastApp used 1.4gb of data overnight downloading podcasts. As someone who is meticulous about data consumption, this was an unacceptable surprise.
Separately, I experienced other buggy issues. When another podcast automatically starts after one has concluded, the audio was always silent. I had to pause and unpause in order to hear the podcast. Also, while I could unpause podcasts using my Bluetooth controls, I could not pause podcasts using the controls. This is something I only experienced in PodcastApp, and it never occurs when using another audio app.
Given the bugs and the unacceptable behavior of PodcastApp 's settings, this is a 1 star app that I can't recommend to anyone. Deleted.

One of the best

I’ve tried seemingly every single podcast playing app on PodcastApp Store. So many have certain features but not other ones. Or are focused on social sharing. Or clunky looking. Or crowded with ugly UI.

But I saw Podurama and gave it a shot, it has all the features that other apps hide behind a paywall, specifically sorting and customizable playback options I always use. An easy to use and edit queue system is something that so many apps don’t have that is such a relief to have here.

Anyways, I’m grateful for this podcast player and hope the best for the developers as they continue to improve PodcastApp .

Feature-rich podcast app with some bugs and sharp edges

First off, I’ve tried manyy podcast apps from the AppStore, and none really had all the desired features and control but PodcastApp does. I like PodcastApp overall but it’s difficult to make it my sole podcast app for these main reasons:

- CarPlay issues; usually when opening the carplay app it doesnt even start up. Sometimes it works by launching PodcastApp on the phone, but even then if PodcastApp is closed it stops working. Also, I am not able to see all episodes for all the podcasts, it only shows 20 episodes and they are the first 20 episodes of each podcast.

- “Skip silences in audio” doesnt seem to work nearly as well as other apps. Its also hard to tell if it does anything at all, as there is no indication of the speed changing during silent parts.

- Playlists are limited to 25 episodes per podcast - why? Its not clear if upgrading to premium removes or raises this limit.

- The image of the podcast for the current playing podcast is low resolution. On other podcast apps the images are much high resolution.

I am using version 4.5.8, and have submitted feedback for some of these issues.

Two features to five stars

Everything rocks about PodcastApp except for two small filtering issues. 1) It would be nice if filters could be applied to user made playlists. 2) “Filter by production date” and “Filter by production date and series” would improve batch downloading option. Certain podcasts need to be listened to in production order. But the current “Filter by download date” option will mix up the order when used with the batch download option. If episode 23 happens to finish downloading before episode 15, 23 will appear first when filtering by date.

If these features can be implanted, I’ll instantly update my review because this is the best podcast app I’ve used.

Love

I spent an ungodly amount of time searching for a podcast app that would have the feature I needed (the ability to categorize podcasts into folders) and I had all but given up until I found Podurama. It had that feature as well as so many other great customizable features. It is clean and easy to navigate. The developers are also so responsive to feedback and quickly fix issues that come up. I truly love PodcastApp and recommend it to all. And I also never write reviews for apps but felt compelled to share my love for this one!

Far and away my favorite podcast app

It is apparently difficult to make a podcast app with a feed that shows the most recent episodes from all of my subsribed podcasts, along with the first couple of sentences from the show notes. This lets me know if I want to download an episode.

Podurama has that, and you can see even more of the notes if you rotate your phone. Very handy when you want to see what you should download each morning. If anything, I’d love an option to show even more of the notes in the preview.

Finally a complete podcast app!

I’ve been through so many podcasts apps in the last 2 years, I’ve lost count. Each app had small issues that made them difficult to stick with. I needed an app with playlist, folders (tags), and a web version. PodcastApp has them all, and they work (and sync) flawlessly. Player FM was the closest I’ve found with everything I need, but it would lose place when you switched to CarPlay or AirPods. Podurama is always synced to the last played location no matter where you listen.

Keep at it! I think you’re going places.

This may not have all the features you want (yet), but this platform appears to be taking all the right steps and thoughtfully building a great app. I know these are reviews for the iPhone app, but I feel compelled to mention their web app, which may already be the best. (Admittedly, it probably wasn’t hard since the competition doesn’t seem to care about web users at all.) A word of encouragement to the dev team: Keep at it! I think you’re going places.

Great app with one glaring fault

This is a great app to use. It's clear that a lot of thought and attention went into the design. The Mac app is equally well designed and easy to use.

I went ahead and bought a lifetime subscription because I was hoping to make this my main podcast app. There was one main reason for that — the ability to add bookmarks during a podcast. This is a much needed feature for me since I listen to numerous 2-3 hour long lectures.

However, I was stunned to discover something that bookmarks are NOT able to do in PodcastApp… you can add bookmarks anywhere during the podcast, and it shows a handy bookmark icon for each location, but there's no way to "JUMP TO" any of your bookmarks. This seems pointless. Feels like a huge missed opportunity by the developers.

Regretting making this purchase now. I just assumed if you could add bookmarks, there would be a way to easily get back to them. I assumed wrong.

Back to my favorite podcast app

When I first starting using it earlier in the year it was the best out of the podcast apps available on iPhones. After an update a couple of months ago, there were serious issues. Emailed customer support and after i gave them some info about the problem and a little bit of time they were able to fix it. PodcastApp went back to work normally, and is once again the best podcast app for iPhone.

Wow!

I’m super picky but PodcastApp is seriously awesome! I’ve always was looking for e-books, , subscriptions or video courses and things like that for years now, but I never really was satisfied until I came across PodcastApp. It has so many things from self-help, news to business to religion and I just super love it! There is even content to listen to to help you sleep at night! I would seriously suggest PodcastApp and I hope it’s around for many many more years!

Great non-subscription player

I needed a new podcast player as Stitcher is going out of business. I was looking for similar customizability without a high subscription cost. I love that this is a one-time purchase. It has most of the features I need, and when I realize there’s a feature I’d prefer to see, I send them a message of my wish list. Here’s to hoping PodcastApp will keep getting better as I’m happy to give my money to solid quality.

Large oversights here.

This thing is riddled with holes that should have never made it to 1.0.0:

- When selecting things, "select all / select none" options are part of basic UI. None here.

- Filters aren't sufficient--want to select OUT episodes that you've downloaded so that you can, you know, select-all (missing) and downlaod everything that you've not downloaded? Yeah, not with PodcastApp.

- UI has lots of issues and conveys insufficient information to users--when "something happens" to a bunch of downloads, the right way to try to recover is NOT to just barf up a modal with the text, "download failure." That's inexusably-bad.

- Certainly for what it is, it's MILES too expensive. I paid $60 for this steaming heap? Yikes. Don't be like me, don't do that until these bugs are fixed.

Disappointed

Although it seems PodcastApp does what others do, only better. (Specifically find, download, play podcasts)
I'm desperate to find an app that does something ELSE):An App that will you to do the same with LOCALLY STORED podcasts (as Apple did in the past).
Perhaps it's not fair to criticize an app for not doing what it doesn't claim to be, so consider this a plea.

Only Missing One Thing

Wow, I love that this works on everying. I love that it syncs so it can pick up where I left off. I love the smart playlists, bookmarks. I do wish it was easier to have every new episode download when I add it to a playlist (not a que guy at all) and it needs value for value enabled with boosting for podcasting 2.0. But its a great experieince and a solid replacement for those coming from Google Podcasts. Add V4V!
