What happened?

2023-12-02

This used to work well. Then you made a firmware update and an update to version 2.12.1
When I search for a recipe all that I see is six blank squares that attempt to load images.
The whole idea of purchasing my this app over another brand of pressure cooker was the assistance to prepare the meals. My unit worked well when I bought it … then you started making “software improvements”.
Don’t you test your software before general availability?
Okay - what you did well: you did a great job of screwing up a really nice appliance that I enjoyed using. Thanks a lot!

A lot of nonsense

2024-01-03

It forces you to make an account just to use the temperature probe. In order to make the account it forces an email verification. Of course it “cannot do that at this time”… Alright fine! I’ll just try to skip that and “add device” temperature probe so at least I can use that? Nope! Must send that email verification first…. I’m sure they will have no issue sending unwanted ads to my email and selling it off to others…

There are better not built in China

2024-05-05

The temperatures it reads are amazing. Very accurate and easy to use. However, the weight of different meats and the time calculation is a bit undesirable. Also the cook history is complete trash. Just let it save on the device since it never saves the actual history or deletes it after a certain time. The custom settings are decent and fix many of the issues with weight but it can’t calculate cooking time either way. Again, I want to see my cooking history for me, not for anyone else to see. Update: company isn’t very good at returning emails. Still no fix for wanting cooking history. Also realized they have China making this product. I would suggest not purchasing when there are other options available for better quality.

Trying to connect to the unit to my new iPhone 12 but failed

2024-03-05

Ok! I was so happy my dad just brought me a brand new iPhone 12 for Christmas, but when I transferred all my data to my new iPhone 12 when I downloaded my ichef app for that unit but I tried numerous of times for it connecting to my unit but didn’t come with nothing at all it was so frustrating I tried different things like connecting Bluetooth and WiFi but still it didn’t came of the success everything I tried had failed because my new iPhone didn’t picking the unit up I wouldn’t not recommend to anyone if I continue having issues with this experience with this unit please fix it explaining to me what I do wrong for it not connecting to this unit thank you!

Two major flaws

2024-04-06

I purchased to replace my instant pot but discovered It is basically useless because it doesn’t adjust the cooking times for high altitude. My instant pot did. Everything is under cooked. It also doesn’t calculate the correct liquid amount for anything less than typically 1cup. So if you are trying to make just one serving, less than 1cup, and using the scale to weigh, it tells you to add the same amount of liquid that you would for a full cup. Response to developer: I had already contacted your company before I wrote this review. They confirmed that both those things are true and didn’t know if your company was going to fix them or not.

Not getting Verification

2024-05-04

I down load we d and created an account through CHEFiQ just not getting the verification to me email, I have checked to make sure the email was enter correctly it was. Went to the website to log in with the same log information I created and got a verify message sent to my that was. Went back to CHEFiQ log out delete CHEFiQ and reinstall it log in again and still getting to verify message, click to send the link to email and still got nothing.

I will update my review when this part of CHEFiQ is fixed. Until then I can not use the products I bought from Chef iQ.

Waste of money

2024-06-08

Claims to be "smart" but I see no use of AI. The recipes are all super specific and there's not that many of them. Can't connect to wifi no matter how many times I try. Made of very cheap plastic it seems. Realized afterwards that this is a potentially hazardous IoT device. IoT devices are easily hacked, so someone could hypotherically turn it into a bomb. I emailed customer support asking for reassurance on their security and got no response. Don't bother buying this piece of junk. Oh yeah and CHEFiQ resets every time I exit for even 30 seconds

Terrible app…

2024-06-15

I recently purchased the CHEF iQ Thermostat from Costco, and while the device itself has an appealing design and seemed promising, my experience was ultimately disappointing due to CHEFiQ .

**Device Design and Features:**
The thermostat itself looks good and has a sleek, modern design. It promises a range of smart features that should make managing home temperatures convenient and efficient.

**App Experience:**
Unfortunately, the accompanying app is a significant letdown. It's not user-friendly at all. The interface is confusing, making it difficult to navigate and utilize the thermostat's features effectively. Basic functions that should be straightforward are overly complicated, and CHEFiQ frequently crashes or lags.

**Overall Impression:**
Despite the attractive design of the thermostat, the poor app experience makes it almost unusable. Given these issues, I decided to return the unit the next day. I cannot recommend the CHEF iQ Thermostat until there are substantial improvements to CHEFiQ .

I hope this review captures your experience accurately! Let me know if you’d like any changes.

Terrible battery life

2024-01-18

Fully charged battery on the hub just died 13 hours into a brisket cook while both probes still had plenty of power left… Not happy at all. Also.. setting a target temp kills the cook once it reaches that target temp and I have to start a new cook and it makes new graph to keep the cook going. This is unacceptable. I want alarms for certain temp thresholds, not for it to finish my cook with no option for me to restart it. This is bad bad bad.. Not happy. Poor execution from this company

Cannot connect the smart cooker to my home WiFi

2024-05-25

I tried numerous times to connect my smart cooker with my home WiFi. The only error I receive is error:NO_AP_FOUND. Not sure if anyone else run in this issue. I have tried all the different iterations including forgetting my home 5 G network and connecting my cellphone with 2.4 g network.

My iPhone is iPhone 8. Latest iOS installed.

Good product. Horrible firmware update

2024-06-26

I like the mutual cooker, but the latest update (summer 2022) is horrible. The black background + inconsistent menu scrolling speed + some weird tune played before the steam release makes this product look and feel much cheaper than before. Please roll back these changes.

Won't connect to wifi

2024-01-07

It connected during set up. Disconnected and never connected again. 👎🏽

Firmware update is not working

2024-02-08

I just bought a new pot, but the firm update does not finish/it sends an error. Are there any issues associated with the latest version released 1 day ago?

Disconnects from wifi it seems every time I use it

2024-09-24

I need to troubleshoot this device when I use it, because more times than not it does not pair. I need to disconnect it and re pair. This last time the probe said it was hot and displayed a temperature, but it was not working. I was required to forget the Bluetooth device, re pair it, then it told me the probe needed to be connected. This is all happening in the middle of a cook with the probe in the meat. So I remove the very hot probe, re pair, and it works.

I have had to go through some version of this procedure many many times. I cannot trust it to be paired and just work when I use it.

Additionally it seems the ui designers are trying to hide the basic functions of the device in order for you to see the fancy new features they added. I just want to put in the probe, open CHEFiQ , click on my meat and desired done ness. But I have trouble finding the most basic function of the probe every time. Want a chart displaying the cook temperature plotted over time? It’s right there! I don’t care.

When it works it’s great, but getting there is a huge pain.

*Apple IPhone 13 fully updated app and device

Firmware won’t update, basically useless!

2024-04-10

It’s just a over glorified paperweight at this point since the firmware won’t update at all. No matter what phone we tried so we can’t even use it. It’s worthless.

Ehh

2024-05-12

I can’t even register my device or verify my email because CHEFiQ is having trouble even sending the account verification email. It’s frustrating.

Problems with iPhone 14 Pro

2024-06-12

Navigational menus are broken with new iPhone 14 Pro. The buttons for the navigation are unresponsive to touch commands. I can go forward through recipes, but can’t back out. Have to close CHEFiQ , reopen and start over.

TRASH!!

2024-07-14

This thing is such a piece of trash! CHEFiQ NEVER WORKS. Constantly disconnects and loses the device and the freaking dial just spins so you can’t even use it manually. STAY AWAY I HATE THIS THING!!

Not impressed

2024-01-10

This was a gift and I’m sad to admit that I dont like it. The RF signal is too weak so it constantly loses connection with the hub from inside the oven (hub is literally inches from the oven and probe is fully charged). I’ve used it twice now and had the same issue both times. I wanted to like that it recalculates cook time for you but that has its own issues (you can’t plan around what it says because it’s always updating and the time remaining can change drastically). I’ve only used it for turkey so maybe that’s just too much for it. My parents have one and love it for BBQ (I can’t see myself having better luck with this device in a BBQ pit than with my oven). I’ve never served undercooked meat before without this device so I may just go back to using my instincts.

Works well but the app is a mess

2024-07-28

Mechanically, the probes work well and it’s accurate. However, CHEFiQ is filled with so much stuff it’s very hard to navigate. I saved a manual cook session (boneless chicken breast) as a favorite, after 10 minutes I still cannot find where my favorites were saved too. I’m a computer person UI/UX that is mechanically inclined. I can figure out how things are logically connected. It’s so hard to find what you need in CHEFiQ unless you’re following a recipe that’s presented to you. Something as simple as your thermometer DESERVES an equally simple app to use.

Can’t find the simple things to cook

2024-03-24

So once upon a time, the software allowed you to easily find and choose to cook/pressure cook an avocado or corn on the cob without creating a meal. It was simple; choose vegetable and which item you wished to do. With the past few updates, the software has now gone downhill, and I’m unable to find how to do this simple task. Now I do have a favorites for corn but it lacks tell me how much water I need to add. I am so ready to get an Instapot and throw this CHEF iQ away.

Great device, poor app design

2024-07-30

Love the thermometer probe. Our burgers, steaks and pork tenderloins all cook without worrying about timing the cook. That part I really like. I also like the Apple watch integration. Not having to be near my food constantly as it cooks is great. It lets me know when things need to be done (flip, for instance) and when the food needs to come off the heat.

Now, CHEFiQ . For some reason, it wont quit notifying me that my cook is done. Days later, I am getting notifications. I dismiss CHEFiQ . Still get notifications. I would think that after I tell CHEFiQ my cook is finished, and turn OFF the hub, it would stop. But it just keep pestering me. Today is Sat. I just got a notification to remove my food for the burgers I cooked on Wed. They need to fix this. Annoying.

The other issue: I want to bulk delete the notifications. No option for that. For an app that is notifcation-happy, I should be able to easily get rid of the large number I have in my system.

Continuously having connection problems

2024-07-25

iPhone user, I’ve probably done a dozen cooks so far, I spend half my time having to reset everything multiple times Bluetooth disconnects then the Wi-Fi disconnects and everything disconnects if I dare to try and use another app it disconnects.
If I dare to leave the house, it disconnects.
I have delete CHEFiQ multiple times and still disconnects continuously.
I thinking I just have a faulty unit.
Also, when you have multiple probes in, you can’t just have a quick glance you have to go into each pro to see what the ambient temperature is. Why can’t you just put it on the main screen like all the other probes.

Nice product…annoying app

2024-10-02

CHEFiQ was bad, after the last design changes is even worse.

We don’t want to see a temperature chart when it’s done. Nobody wants to share that. It doesn’t make any sense. It would make more sense the option to take a photo of the steak and share it. Specially when you close CHEFiQ , and open it again in the next day, instead of let you do what you want, you have this extra step to click on finish and then start all over again.

When the food is ready it should clean up the notifications for that probe. I have hundreds of notifications, what’s the point of seeing I had to flip the steak a month ago.

The process of choosing food, cut, temperature, could be more user friendly, showing the instructions in the end it’s helpful for the first time, but I could be optional later.

After starting cooking, you can’t change your mind, changing the temperature is annoying.

The notification the probe is not properly inserted comes, but then it fixes by itself. It should wait a little more before saying it was disconnected. It’s just a false alarm.

Crucial Features Missing

2024-10-02

1st: Creating a duplicate cook setting with the same name doesn’t delete the original, or even warn that there’s another with an identical name. It’s frustrating. Also, when creating a cook setting, occasionally all of the settings will vanish when you click save, causing it to save as a 0 minute cook with all the wrong settings.

2nd: This is crucial: there’s no timer that displays how long your food has been releasing pressure, for those recipes involving natural release. Should I be busy while food is cooking, I should be able to set x amount of time as Natural release (5 minutes for example) and switch to quick release after automatically.

3rd: The notifications don’t work. I have all of my iPhone settings correctly set to receive notifications from Chef IQ, but I never get any when food is done cooking.

There needs to be one or the other, preferably both! I’m keeping the pressure cooker and working around these flaws, but it’s very frustrating.

Hardware good, app is meh

2024-09-16

I recently got the thermometer. Paired easily and is working great.
CHEFiQ is pretty disappointing. All I want is to see the food and air temperature of both probes on 1 screen, but instead the Home Screen will only show you the food temp and target of 1 probe (no air temp), and you have to swipe for 2nd or click to see air. The cook control screen doesn’t show you any temperatures and you have to click on the probes to see any temperatures.
Honestly this was pretty shocking to me, the whole point of the product is to read the temperature and instead the screen is focused on pushing you recipes.

Missing some key features, so close to great

2024-06-19

Really loving the thermometer, but it’s missing some features that competitors have that would make it 5 stars.

1) Doesn’t seem to have the ability to see/hear temp without app. Would be nice to be able to push the button on the base and hear a readout. Another option would be the ability to set readout points for a cook. For instance with long cooks many people like to wrap the meat at around 165. If I set my target temp to 165, then I have to start a whole new cook to 205 after wrapping. Why not let me put a target of 205 and an alert at 165?
2) Lack of ambient alerts are a huge miss. Grills/smokes can malfunction, having ambient alerts if the temp drops below a food safe level or goes above a safe level (usually meaning grease fire) is a huge safety thing that other apps have.
3) Widget and/or Apple Watch app would be great. I would love to not have to fully open CHEFiQ to see the current temps.

The hardware so far seems great. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this other stuff could be done in software and firmware update. There is a ton of promise to this and it if improves, I’ll be buying more probes and recommending this system to friends.

Great so far

2026-01-08

So far so good. Please allow Landscape mode for iPad, it would be very helpful to a lot of your customers. Also please consider adding a larger range of individual food recipes with cooking guidance that’s not included in meals. CHEFiQ has a lot of potential.

Doesn’t always connect

2026-03-05

I love CHEFiQ and the cooker but the cooker doesn’t always connect and I have to factory reset it. It is especially frustrating when I can’t get it to reconnect and when it disconnects in the middle of a recipe.

Lack of recipes is worrying

2026-02-14

I purchased this off Kickstarter and was browsing the recipes. I’m shocked at how many of their own categories have zero results. Hopefully the developers will fill CHEFiQ with recipes before launch.

Needs to support dynamic type

2025-08-26

App is not usable when using larger font size.

Bug in Ambient Temperature

2026-08-02

I love the this app but the ambient temperature doesn’t seem to be converting from C to F. By that I mean it’s showing a Celsius value in Fahrenheit when I have my I app set to Fahrenheit. The probe temperature is correct but ambient isn’t.

I thought this was an issue with my Traeger (it’s cold here and I figured this app was more accurate or there were cold spots in the cooking area). Anyway, I tried it in my oven today. The oven is set to 450F and the this app is reading an ambient of 240F. Now - few degrees or even ten is fine. 200+ F degrees is not. That said it dawned on me that 240C is about 460F.

I hope it’s a bug otherwise the ambient temperature lags massively from the air temperature. 🤔

Good App with a few suggestions

2026-09-03

We are loving cooking with our new this app and CHEFiQ allows you to follow the cooking directions very easily. I would highly suggest enabling Landscape mode for iPad especially with the apple magic keyboard it makes it a pain to remove from the case and attempt to stand vertically. I also am hoping they add many more recipes but that said the ones that currently exist are fantastic.

Nice, but…

2024-06-23

The probe and hub work perfectly fine. No issues so far. I would just like CHEFiQ to have a temp/time scale. For long smokes on my Big Green Egg, I need to see how long the temp has stalled so I can wrap the meat in foil. Yea I could just keep up with the time and temp myself, but the time waiting for a 10-12 cook, there’s other things I need to do. Can’t just sit by my grill looking at CHEFiQ and my watch. It would be an awesome feature to go along with the probe and hub.

Alerts Inconsistent

2024-04-14

Recently purchased the Chef IQ Smart Cooker 640. Easy to install and connect. ‘Talks’ to the device just fine. Review loses one star for two reasons. (so far) My first test worked beautifully, however, on the second attempt, (as I eventually figured out) CHEFiQ could not communicate with ‘the cloud’ Tried various methods to reconnect. Wound up deleting and reinstalling CHEFiQ . The other is that the alerts are not consistent. Been ‘playing’ with the sous-vide functionality, which starts with a pre-heat before actually adding the food. There is no alert when the preheat is complete, after multiple tests. (IMHO, there should be) That being said, I do get an alert when the cooking is complete. (Both sous vide and pressure cooking) and the best thing is that the alerts that are actually sent, are mirrored on the Apple Watch. On that note, a watch app would be awesome, that, in addition to the alerts, could show the remaining cook time. But that’s probably too much to ask. (Also a ‘Clear All’ option for all alerts). Other than that, great job.

Needs always on function

2026-12-03

Would give 5 stars if this had an always on function

Love this app!

2024-08-18

I have been using CHEFiQ as a new to pressure cooking cook. Having the recipes connect to the cooker and basically do all the work for me it amazing! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the user doesn’t have the ability to change the serving quantity on the recipes. I have a family of 4, but 2 are growing teenagers. Most of the recipes are for 4 people. I usually tweak the recipes/cook times to get more servings. If CHEFiQ would have an update with this option, I would definitely give it 5 stars.

Meat thermometer

2027-03-09

I like the meat thermometer but I would like to see a change, I would like to adjust the temperature I’m cooking at. I use my Treager a lot so I’m cooking at a lower temperature than what is in the options. But at least it still tells me when the cook reaches the correct temperature.

IQ Chef is the kitchen gadget I didn’t know I needed!

2024-10-02

Got it for a gift to go with my new BGE. Thought it was kinda silly but used it anyway. Wow, was I glad I did. Easy to use and actually rather helpful with its tips and advice. Made it really nice to not have to walk out to check what ever I am cooking constantly. I just pull up CHEFiQ and it tells me everything I need to know. No need to constantly open the lid and reduce my heat. Great little gift I will, and have, continued to use for all my cooks from brisket to salmon.

Amazing pressure cooker

2024-06-19

My wife and I are not good chefs. I know how to cook steaks, burgers, and hotdogs. This pressure cooker makes it so easy to find a recipe and guide you through cooking steps. It even lets you create a shopping list which can be offloaded to Instacart. They have thought of everything. You follow step-by-step instructions from your phone and the phone controls your pressure cooker. I have cooked recipes that I never even thought of trying and enjoy home-cooked meals nightly. what an amazing invention!!!

I wish calories were included with recipes

2026-07-06

I love how CHEFiQ makes cooking with this pressure cooker so easy, even guiding the cooker itself for proper temps and times!

I just wish that the calorie count for the recipes was included, for those of us trying to watch that. 😕

Best Thing I’ve Purchased in a While

2027-02-21

This thing is sooooooo helpful when it comes to cooking meals. Never in a million years did I think I’d follow instructions that connect via wifi. It makes cooking so easy and lots of fun. I’ve made 3 dishes so far from their explore page and I love it. I follow each step by step instructions. I’m beyond mindblown how easy it is to make literally- ANYTHING. I made Sheppards Pie as a last minute meal last night and never in a million years did I think I would make something like this. BUY THIS NOW. Not only will it save you headache but also time.

Best of class. Good connectivity

2024-06-19

I’ve tried a couple different brands in this has the best connectivity. The Hub connects to Wi-Fi then the probe Bluetooths in to the hub. Then you can see your cook from anywhere remotely. I have a commercial Kitchen, so I have four or five guys signed in to the same account and we have four or five pairs of approves registered to that account.

Great Product and Excellent Customer Service

2027-06-17

Recentl purchased but so far excellent product. Some minor issues that were quickly resolved with firmware updates. Very responsive customer service. CHEFiQ is great!

Best cooker ever!!

2024-09-25

If you are a bachelor like me. You need to get this pressure cooker along with a ninja foodi grill XL. You can literally have homemade perfect mash potatoes done in 28 minutes and then use the ninja foodi grill to cook your steak in 10 minutes to perfection. I wish Chef IQ would make an inside grill that could tell you when your meats done via the phone app. Come on! With all the tech out there Chef IQ, we can cook a 5 course meal in minutes! But I had this cooker since 2019 and so far no problems at all. Only issue was trying to update the firmware but that got resolved by calling them. If anyone is reading this, buy the product. It cooks literally everything perfectly!!

It really is that good

2024-06-19

Update: this app team I’m experiencing a bug where when in guided cooking, and pulling up the ingredient list while in a step, the ingridient list is blank. Please fix if not an issue on my end.

This device had been hugely beneficial for my family. I finally feel like I can cook! I use this thing twice a day and I can’t recommend it enough. I’ve even got my kids interested in cooking. I really used to despise making dinner or would get anxious about it turning out terrible - now I look forward to it.

Love it

2024-06-19

I’ve cooked chicken thighs, pork Ribeyes and a corn beef brisket on my smoker. Oh and a filet mignon. Only problem I have with the probes is that when I wrapped the brisket it lost connection to the probes. But the meat was perfect! I used them in my air fryer for the chicken thighs and they were so juicy and perfect! The ribeye pork was also unbelievable and juicier than me trying to guess. The filet was perfect medium rare for my husband I like mine rare! I am considering buying two more!

Remarkable

2027-10-22

I love the this app so much. Thai thing has helped me learn new recipes in such a minimalist kind of style! There are so many recipes and such a variety with a grocery list, step by step instructions, AND VIDEOS!

It feels intimidating at first but the recipes are soooo user friendly and they even tell you what level of difficulty they are and the amount of time that they take!

I want this thing for the rest of my life haha. Oh yea, they update CHEFiQ and the recipes as they connect with the Chef IQ aswell!

Cook Control is cool!

2027-09-25

Cook control helps me figure out the right time and temperature in seconds! Love using the thermometer.

Chef iQ for the win!

2027-10-27

What an amazing addition to the grilling arsenal!
Ease of use, feature packed, accuracy, and tracking progress while at the store for last minute shopping!!!
Kudos AND bravo to the Chef iQ team!

Amazing product and great app

2027-11-27

Really awesome product and CHEFiQ is equally good. Guided cooking has helped a person like me to cook delicious meal. And I have never cooked before.

Game changer

2024-06-19

I received this a a gift from my best friend for Christmas because she has one. It has put the fun back into cooking for me. I really like that it is easy to use and not scary. Pressure cookers seemed scary before his one. I enjoyed sharing the joy of cooking with this cooker with my 11 year old daughter. We have been inspired to create meals together. Fun Fun Fun

So far, so delicious!

2028-02-06

I mainly bought this probe for briskets since my other wired ones kept dying - hopefully the sealed probe will make the difference in longevity.
I’ve used CHEFiQ on briskets and steaks and they’ve turned out exactly how I wanted. Freed me up to do other things while cooking and alerted me when action was needed.

Great app just needs one thing

2028-04-27

Home Screen / Lock Screen widget integration would be a game changer!!!

Fantastic! 🥩🔥

2024-09-25

I can’t believe I didn’t purchase this set earlier. Makes smoking meats and grilling so much more consistent! The probes seem to report consistent temps between the 3 of them. Protein cook programs take the guesswork out of the whole experience. I can just throw meat into the smoker at low heat and cook my sides, then when I’m ready crank the heat a bit and finish up at my own pace. The ceramic probes are just super cool and honestly are a technology wonder 🤓

Love it!

2027-10-21

Love CHEFiQ and smart cooker, works well and makes delicious garlic chicken

Love this unit—effortless to perfection

2024-07-05

I’ve used this thermometer twice now cooking tri tip. The fist time my meat was a bit under cooked, not the units fault just not knowing what temperature I like. The next time, tonight, I cooked the tri tip longer and it cooked to my perfection.

I set the thermometer in the nest and placed it on the hot lump, flipping once and finishing. I let it rest then cut it up. I must say this unit works great I can monitor the meat from my couch.

Versatile, complete tool for cooking

2028-07-18

Easy setup, complete iPhone App, understandable directions for cooking, great results!!

Live Activities

2028-12-10

Great app! I would love to see the addition of a Live Activities feature while cooking so the status is visible on Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island. 🌡️

Meds a Watch app

2029-01-11

Great tool, love the thermometer.
But it needs to have a Watch App so I can check the status of my food by glancing at my wrist instead of pulling out the phone.
