WNEP The News Station Reviews

The new app is difficult and confusing. It’s been developed for advertisers and not news, content, weather or the end user. Plus the splash screen is truly annoying. I already know what app I’ve opened and I know if it’s morning, afternoon, or night. When I open an app, especially a news app, I want the data I’m looking for as quickly as possible. Just removing the splash screen animation and having WNEPTheNewsStation open straight to the news would improve WNEPTheNewsStation to three stars for me.

For now I’ve gone back a decade and just put a bookmark to the webpage on my phone instead of using WNEPTheNewsStation . The WTSP app from 10 news out of Tampa was another unfortunate casualty of this design. The old WNEP app was very good, albeit outdated, it functioned well and did the job of presenting the user with data phenomenally.

Plus why are you only allowed five saved locations for weather? I used the old WNEP app all over the country and if traveling I could store locations I travel to frequently. But the new app is limited to only five. It doesn’t even make logical sense. Why would you want someone to use another app that meets their needs and purposely cost yourselves ad revenue? I mean based on the barrage of ads on the new app you make it obvious that they are a major part of WNEP’s future.

I didn’t like WNEPTheNewsStation at first, but, with using it more I am finding more options particularly with the weather section. I am still getting used to WNEPTheNewsStation and liking it the more I use it. I like the one app verses two apps. However, I have an issue with my location button, it doesn’t let me display my location marker. I get a pop up banner that says turn on location services, which I have turned on. I don’t like that the Moosic location can not be deleted. Also, I get notifications other than the weather even though I just have the weather switch turn on. I’d give WNEPTheNewsStation a 5 if these issues were resolved.

Thank you for delivering consistent, up to date news and happenings around your coverage area! I enjoy the various news casters and special teams who have been true to their craft for many years. I’m saddened by the career changes of those who have moved on, however, I’m aware every person needs to do what is best for their families and circumstances. The weather team does an exceptional job during weather events as well as daily reporting. Overall, Newswatch 16 is my go to for all content.

We are on Blue Ridge cable and as of April 1 we no longer receive WNEP through our cable. We are greatly disappointed with their decision because we were faithfulwatchers and especially loved the morning show. We loved this channel also because all the commentators (news, weather, sports, etc) seem so down to earth unlike the main channels like abc, cnn, etc. Blue Ridge has told us because WNEP is out of market and they said your increase of 60% was too much to pass on to customers. I just have a hard time believing that your station would have that much of an increase and the main channel would not. I don’t know much about the FCC and their rules, but if I could, I would exchange 50 channels that I don’t watch for WNEP. I am watching your station now on my iPad and will continue to do so.

I love watching You & I have for a long time. I will continue to. I think it’s ignorant that the people who criticize you don’t have a clue what your jobs are like. They really should get a life of their own. Most the time the news & weather are right on. I’ve watched Your news because You reported on important events local & worldwide. You also put a little sunshine in our lives. I wouldn’t watch any other stations. Thank You for being who You are…

Terrible app. I switched over from the original app like I was supposed to, and now I’ve uninstalled it all completely. It’s difficult to navigate as the general set up is very poor, ads everywhere-EVERYWHERE-and if you want to just read a story but not watch it, you can’t get the video not to autoplay when you click on the story link, even though the no autoplay option is selected. If you do choose to watch a story, you have to sit and watch an ad BEFORE EVERY SINGLE STORY before you’re allowed to see it. This was the same on the old app, but I’m tired of it either way. Get the PA Homepage app. It’s much more comfortable to navigate, great information, you’re not forced to play the videos, and you don’t have to watch ads every time you click on something.

I look forward every morning to watch the Morning crew! I love Joe’s shenanigans, it makes my day! I love Mindy Tom and the whole gang too! Using WNEPTheNewsStation is the only way I get to watch WNEP so I am so thankful for it.
I love WNEPTheNewsStation for any news in my area if I miss your show at any point of the day. I don’t watch the news on my TV anymore, I use this wonderful App.
Please keep WNEPTheNewsStation going so the whole team, morning noon or night, to keep my day happy and keep all of us who can’t see you on TV going.

The Morning Crew during the Week are truly amazing!! They are so full of ENERGY, plus Ryan’s stories are the best he does so much research into each story and cover it from A thru Z. Then you have Mindy, Tom and Joe, they compliment each other so much. Finally Joe, where do I start, he is so super intelligent and takes his forecast and explains it so we can all understand!! One tip to WNEP keep this crew together, they brighten up every morning for so many people in NEPA !! Great Job Morning Crew!!

Great way to stay in touch with the area while I’m away! I can look at the weather and read what’s doing on in my hometown! I thoroughly enjoy watching News Watch 16 and WNEPTheNewsStation keeps me informed while I’m out of the area ! It’s definitely a win win for me! My only suggestion is I miss the old separate weather app with active radar! It would be nice to either get it back or add it on to this current app! Great Job!

Just a FYI to all that make our day with your hard work and day to day work loads. I very much enjoy WNEP and all the folks that put that effort to let us know about our local and daily news as we sit safely at home and your all working and getting us the information of our surrounding. WNEPTheNewsStation is great and the folks at WNEP are the best. Keep up the good job everyone.

I love WNEP however I wish you would go back to your old appearance of what your app was it was easy to look at and find on the phone and so many things are blue and white and it is hard to pick it out on my phone however the other thing I can’t stand is when I’m watching it on the news on my television the way it’s distracting the lines and everything move around I don’t like it but that’s OK cause we’re getting rid of our cable anyway so I will only have my app and I’ll check it every now and then

I find WNEPTheNewsStation difficult if not impossible to use. When I click on a news story to watch, ads pop up and then freeze. I rarely get a news story to watch and end up reading it in the text below instead. I also miss the feature of being able to watch a full newscast at any time of day. Now you have to be logged on during a live cast to see a full half hour of news. With the original app, I could log on at 2pm and see the entire recorded news from the noon newscast. That option is gone with this new app.

Your news and weather teams are extraordinarily warm and friendly. Few pretentious at WNEP. I appreciate that. Thank you. Wish WNEPTheNewsStation would open faster. Seems to be a much too long pause between accessing WNEPTheNewsStation and getting to the news, the weather, etc. Also would appreciate fuller Covid updates, not as thorough as The NY Times, but more currant local info on WNEPTheNewsStation . Thanks all for your service to the community.

WNEPTheNewsStation is slow to load. It’s very difficult to get around and find things. There doesn’t seem to be a main menu or search function. Did testers try to watch videos like Does it really work? The videos keep reloading and starting over. Even when they run they’re jerky.
Ask someone who is seeing WNEPTheNewsStation for the first time to go to the Does it really work videos. Watch what they have to do to find the videos, if they can find them. It seems like the developers were concentrating on presenting ads more than on usability. Pay more attention to the end user.

I watch WNEP via WNEPTheNewsStation every morning. I think WNEPTheNewsStation could be more user friendly in the way I access live content. The system Is very sensitive to access advertisements. Those are the first things that appear when I log in, rather than actually watching the live channel. If I touch the phone gently, I seem to stop the news and start an ad. Sometimes I have to hit Watch several times to get sound. I have an iPhone 13, so it isn’t the technology.

By time you’re Able to click on the live broadcast it’s already a few minutes into it there’s a delay before it actually lets you click on it to watch it I think you need an update on this it’s been going on for a little bit now please let me know I appreciate it thank you I really like using WNEPTheNewsStation

Generally I like the new app and find it easy to navigate (and the live stream works so much better on our smart TV). However, the school closings section needs work. Many were listed as “early dismissal,” but no specific times given. I also liked the alternating grey and white backgrounds behind the school names - made it much easier to read.
I like the weather feature as it’s included in the new app. Very easy to set up location.

Almost always, I rely on WNEP for the most complete and accurate news. Especially with COVID 19 briefings. My only suggestion would be to please place some kind of notice on the screen of time for PA briefing. I can’t count how many times I’ve tuned in at 2pm and no briefing! Either I missed it or it will be later but nowhere can I find any information on the schedule.

Please please don’t leave us Blueridge customers behind I’ve watched WNEP 16 for 14 years and only switched from my satellite to cable bc I was unable to get WiFi in these current days of Covid-19 how can anyone live without satellite how can I home school my grand babies ? Woke up one morning without channel 16. No news or weather. In the northern end of Wayne county weather is important. Am extremely disappointed with the owner. They are doing a real disservice to their customers. The other news stations don’t cover this area. Love channel 16 news and weather and have been loyal viewers for years but shame on Tegna

I prefer the old app, there was nothing wrong with it. But considering that I cannot live stream the news anymore from WNEP with WNEPTheNewsStation, I will have to switch to watching WBRE or FOX 56 while at work, I can stream the news with their apps. Not to mention that the notification system isn’t as comparable to the previous one with school closings, traffic, etc. once these basic functions are restored, I will continue watching WNEP once again.

I get that no one really likes change ! However WNEPTheNewsStation really makes no sense . Waiting for it to say good morning or good evening till I can actually navigate through WNEPTheNewsStation is the first stupid feature to this new and improved app . The old app for weather was far better as well . Everything was right there when you opened WNEPTheNewsStation .

Apparently some people shouldn’t have a smartphone if they aren’t smart. You can easily stream by just touching the “watch” button in the bottom right corner. Anyway nice refreshing new look.

Old app was much easier to find things. Also a big step back with the weather functions. Cannot delete the original default location, and there is no option to use current location for weather info. Radar maps are not interactive at all. Looks like I’m switching back to another app until this gets fixed

The old App was far better! There seems to be no organization , only pieces of stories come with a photo. When you attempt to play the video an ad comes up (like normal) but won’t play through or start playing until learn more is clicked. The other app had a nice easy scroll interface. Why fix what wasn’t broken?

The old app had a nice menu to sort news stories or do county but county, this just has a few featured stories mashed together into one screen and then a ton of ads.

The layout should be more segmented and organized so I can see stuff that’s relevant to me and my location with maybe a few other things mixed in for variety.

I downloaded, then deleted WNEPTheNewsStation after reading the privacy statement. Essentially, your personal information cannot be protected with WNEPTheNewsStation. I tried to see how I could prevent the collection AND sharing of personal data, but I could not. If you want to keep your information private, DO NOT DOWNLOAD WNEPTheNewsStation!! Good bye WNEP news. I’ll find another source!!

I liked the other one better for the weather report all you had to do was click on it and the weather was there . Know you have to click on the bottom and scroll down to find the weather map

The old app worked just fine why did you have to change it. Got school closing and delays better on the old one.

I had to “upgrade” to this as the old one no longer worked. Looked at it once and really didn’t like the new app. Tried to look at it this morning and it says no network, but here I type on the same network. Deleted it, junk app.

The new app is absolutely terrible, as well as the website. There was nothing wrong with the old one. Now the video streaming is all messed up, and is basically unusable.

I also liked having a separate app for news and weather. Guess that’s gone too....You guys can do much better!

New app is very confusing. I don’t understand what was wrong with the old app. It had everything you need. I liked when I just tapped WNEPTheNewsStation and the radar map would come right up. Now I have to go searching for it. I’ll be looking for another weather app.

This new app is crap. No weather warnings or alerts. Old app I had three other locations that would show if there was a winter storm warning or watch with a ! In red. This is missing on the new app. Also when clicking on map it just freezes. AccuWeather app here I come.

Don’t think the layout of WNEPTheNewsStation is easy to follow. Seems like they just threw it together. Prefer the old app. As with everything the more you use it, it may make more sense......
