So inferior to others… not even adequate…

The Volkswagen engineers are considered some of the smartest people on earth. Engineering that has amazed me. They build some of the finest machines on the face of the earth. And then they publish (or farm out to another company) this woefully inferior car integration app. Hyundai Blue Link and others are far superior. And when I say superior I cannot stress it enough. The developers of myVW should be ashamed and would be if they ever used another one. I have never seen a commercial product be so glitchy. I just tried to use it to lock the doors of our Atlas and it told me I have no cars in my garage. Later I’ checked it again and voilà the car is there.
Hopefully some manager somewhere is reading the reviews. And making changes somehow. I say that and then see reviews that mention it hasn’t changed in five years. I regret not waiting for the Hyundai Palisade to be available. You might think I am being a little bit overboard on selecting a vehicle based on their app. To some degree I am. But there are other things about the Atlas that are disappointing. Engineered very well but the value for what you get dollar for dollar is not even close to other manufacturers. One more thing the subscription is expensive compared to other companies.I’m glad we leased this time. It probably will be our first and last Volkswagen.

I really want to love this app...

Car-Net is a feature I would deem essential on my late-model VW but myVW needs quite a bit of work. Although it is aesthetically pleasing and offers many features I have found three main shortcomings: the first is sign-on because I need to sign in or FaceID in to myVW every time I use it which is a huge annoyance because if I’m in my phone then I’ve already signed in so I don’t want to continue to sign in for every app; the second issue I have is with latency or the time it takes between when I command my car to do something and when that command is actually carried out — this needs to be instantaneous; the third issue is with Siri integration — Car-Net has good integration with Siri but it literally never works, I always get an error when I try to use Siri Shortcuts. If VW USA fixes up myVW because I know it can (I’m a software engineer so I know what it’s going to take) then that many more people will subscribe and pay the $200 cost to use these features. Almost every one on Reddit complaining about CarNet say they decided not to subscribe because of myVW. Please, VW, just fix it.

ID.4 Shoppers beware!

If my e-Golf experience is any indication, ID.4 buyers will NOT have an app experience worthy even of cursory comparison to Tesla or other EV manufacturers. myVW and the online services backing it are among the biggest pieces of trash I’ve seen in a two decade technology career. Simple things like checking your battery charge level require half a dozen steps, including signing-in across three separate web page loads, EVEN WHEN USING Toch ID or Face ID. Yes. You can use your fingerprint (or face), but you still have to do it three times! Then, you have to swipe down to force myVW to refresh your car’s data... and even then, it won’t show it on the freaking screen until you go to another page in myVW and then go back! Oh, and all that’s IF the back end servers are even working when you try. As crappy as myVW is, the servers it connects to are even worse. I wouldn’t be able to get a job at all if the IT systems I manage had such terrible uptime and reliability. The brain damaged chimps who coded this junk seem to have jobs for life though. Don’t be fooled if a VW dealer or support rep tells you it will be fixed. It’s only gotten worse over the past couple of years.

HOW is the average rating 4.4?

myVW is garbage and I normally wouldn’t care to write a review but I paid VW actual money for the Car-Net service because there are features that I would like to use with my e-Golf through myVW , such as setting a charge limit to help battery longevity and preconditioning the car while plugged in to conserve electricity. Refreshing the charge/vehicle status is hit or miss, remote commands take at least five minutes to work, and lately I’ve been getting an error that says there was a problem with my request when I attempt to do anything. The mobile website works better than myVW .

Also, there’s a way to unlock the doors but no way to lock the doors. I feel like that’s a strange omission, but I could accept that missing feature if myVW would just do what it promises to do.

This is scary considering VW’s supposed commitment to electric vehicles and more software oriented vehicles. It is very telling that GM can get myVW for my Volt right but VW can barely get theirs to perform the bare minimum functions well. I’m afraid of how their newer car models that are supposed to be full of digital gimmicks will work.

Could do so much more.

I got my 2021 Atlas Cross Sport a little over a week ago and was kind of blown away when I first used myVW. But after my curiosity started kicking in I realized how limited it is. The Drive Score is pretty neat if you’re an insurance agent looking to raise peoples’ premiums. The remote often tells me I can’t start or stop my car. It doesn’t integrate the remote start and stop with Siri which would be helpful because you have to unlock myVW then put in a pin to do literally anything. Getting around that would be nice. Why not let me set the temperature or turn on the heated seats? That would come in handy come winter time. I’d like to be able to control the windows and moonroof too. If myVW recognizes they’re open while I’m away from the car, let me close them and vice versa.

An Apple Watch app would be helpful. Quick controls without having to use Face ID and passcode. I’ve read other reviews that state comparable apps do more. So… DO MORE!!

I wish it was worth it.

This is a review of myVW and the car-net service. Both are virtually useless. I have an ID.4. I have to re-authentic to myVW nearly ever time I open it, but every single time. After I authenticate with myVW , I have to use a pin to access my car. But there is very little reason to do that. I can see my current state of charge (sometimes). In theory I could start the AC system. But that has only worked for me once in the 5 months I’ve had the car (with at least 30 attempts), at this point I don’t bother except to just see if it is gonna work this time. I can not see the state of the door locks or windows from myVW . I can in theory create a service appointment, except that just dumps me out to a non-mobile friendly website. If I try to refresh the status of the car while in myVW , it try’s then errors out.

It is a big disappointment for this service/app to perform so poorly. I want to like it or even love it. But it just isn’t very well done.

Worst car app ever

Like others have said in their reviews my carnet app stopped responding or doing anything on 12/21…couldn’t remote start, couldn’t lock or unlock the doors, couldn’t refresh. I tried calling carnet and their suggestion to me which is now a lie is that I should take my car to the dealership to have them reset something because my car wasn’t sending signals, I wasn’t doing that just for the carnet app, so the lady said she could put a ticket in but IT wasn’t responding because they were working on a big update to fix myVW . She said the update would be out on 1/7/22…we’re now at 1/9 and no update, however in the beginning of the week I noticed I could now lock and unlock my car from myVW . I will never rely on myVW to lock or unlock my car smh. It’s freezing where I live and I’m at least glad I got the fob to remote start, but I just leased this car in may and I wasn’t expecting all these issues for a car I pay so much for every month. Get it together Volkswagen!! I will never lease or buy a Volkswagen again

Keep Getting Alerts my car doors are unlocked! and my car doors are open ot

Why is myVW sending me alerts that are false, I’m sitting in the Nailery and I know I locked my doors, it had me jumping up twice while getting my nails done! and looking at my car, then a few mins later it’s doing it again, it’s very disturbing! Then it happens 1 o’clock in the morning 5 alerts that my car doors is open and unlocked! And the car is locked I’m about to delete myVW because it has me worrying thinking someone is in my car or trying to steal it! I don’t need the aggravation...... trying to locate tech
I support can’t find it don’t see a number to reach them

A lot of room for improvement

myVW response is very slow. I understand the command has to go to the server then to the car then to the server and back to the phone but I hope it can be made faster. myVW will not respond at times when car is in my garage. The car is connected to my wi-fi which is fast. I have a multichannel, 6000 ax WiFi 6 router that is blazing fast and I hope, since it’s a trusted connection, the car can connect directly to my phone which will definitely make is a lot reliable and faster. I am not using myVW for charging schedule purposes because the car wouldn’t charge waiting for communication and my command times out a lot of times. I use my smart EVSE app instead which is very reliable and instantly reply to my request. I do know though that it will improve overtime just like Tesla.

Almost great

I like the functionality and concept of myVW but I have two problems with it:

1) The login process is a bit cumbersome (authorizing twice even though I only have one car, website login feels sloppy/lazy from a developer standpoint) and myVW will often forget my Touch ID sign in requiring me to enter username/password and PIN. Not a huge deal, but annoying. I don’t use myVW that often so despite having the Touch ID feature, it functionally does not exist.

2) Though the Speed and Boundary Alert items exist in the Guardian section of myVW , they are not functional for me. All I can do is set Valet and Curfew Alerts. That’s nice, but I’d like to know if a shop takes my car for a joy ride above a certain speed. I haven’t been able to find any resources online to help troubleshoot this issue. Seems like a bug.

Apple Watch

****Update: Since things have been updated some time ago, Apple Watches still have not been added back to myVW . It is so helpful to be able to glance at my watch and see if my doors are unlocked and be able to lock them right from my watch. Are you going to add the watch feature back to myVW ? I wrote the last review back in November or December, and nothing has been done. Having it available on my watch is far more valuable to me than having it accessible to me on my iPad.****

What happened to being able to lock cars from the Apple Watch App? It has handy when I forgot to lock my car, and I was alerted before I got inside my apt. It stinks living in an apartment on the 3rd floor with health issues. It also kept my car safe, because I live in the city. Please consider bringing it back

Horrible customer service

myVW is not the smartest. I got VW id4 and tried to connect myVW with my husband, but once both of us get connected to the car, both of us get disconnected for an unknown reason. After taking unnecessarily many steps to get connected to the car, this disconnection happens, which is such a waste of time. So we called the customer service and the only answer we got was “it could be many things”. That was it. The reps didn’t give us any solid advise on what to do. So we had to do digging online and figured it out ourselves. The reason was the car-net module in the car was never turned on, which isn’t car-net’s fault but it’s happened to many people in the past several months so it should be easy for them to figure it out. Anyway. It needs to be simplified at the sign-up stage, and they need to strengthen the customer service.

Terribly glitchy, and inconveniently slow

myVW is honestly pitiful. myVW has given me nothing but irritation since downloading it. Sometimes it will glitch and log you out, which is annoying because it happens very often. When trying to lock, unlock or use the horn and such, myVW takes way too long in my opinion. That function glitches often as well. Says that there was and error and the process couldn’t be completed. Which completely defeats one of the main reasons I downloaded myVW !!!!! Or if it does work it’s slower than molasses on a cold day. The pull down to refresh action on the home page is garbage. It won’t ever actually “update” if you refresh it yourself. It will when it wants too. With all that being said and not having a second option, I’ll have to live with it. However just know if you get myVW you WILL most definitely be disappointed.

Barely worth the effort

Ok the updates always trashes local I for so each update means entering you credentials. Annoying. The interface is too subtle and it is hard to determine if you turning something on or off. Most annoying is you can only do one feature at a time. Each action take 15-30 seconds to respond. It’s be nice if it was possible to submit more than one request at a time so that myVW doesn’t lock you out while it confirms your action.

Each update seems to make it less effective. I just realized it’s similar to the control panel on my ID 4. I’m 10 miles down the road before I can control my climate. Also if you use myVW to turn on the climate in preparation of a trip, why doesn’t the control center turn on? I mean it takes up to a 2 minutes to be fully functional. Why not use analytics to predict a drive and boot it up? It’s as if VW is new to this tech.

Crashes Immediately

Latest update causes myVW to crash immediately upon opening. Before that, myVW went through good times and bad. Most recently, I found myself having to go through a multi-step login process every time, despite having enabled FaceID. I’ve also found the unlocking feature to be slow and at times unreliable. Gave me a scare once when I went for a run and intentionally locked my keys in the car so I wouldn’t have to carry them. (Bad idea.) Ended up waiting in a panic for fifteen minutes for the thing to unlock.

I’ve been paying for Car-Net for nearly three years now. The functionality is great. VW went through the trouble to install the hardware in the car, they have a staff working 24/7 for concierge and assistance services, and the subscription isn’t exactly cheap. How, then, can myVW still be so 100% terrible? Seems like that should be the easy part.

By

Unusable

With the last update of myVW it has
gone downhill and not even usable. I was able to access my car functions for 3 months, and now heading into the coldest part of the year I can’t start my car from my app and I have to be 5 ft from the car to use the key fob so myVW would have been nice. I have to send the car in for more than a day just so that the poor VW tech people can try to trouble shoot this horrible app. It has interfered with the Bluetooth functions of the car- not helpful living in a state with a hands free law! Either this company needs to figure it out, or VW needs to part with the 3rd party junk.

Need to update

Was working great and suddenly it keeps telling me my doors are unlocked. I was in target and left all my shopping to trek several floors down and across the whole parking structure to find my car locked! This morning I woke up to alerts all night that my car was unlocked and doors were opened. Totally stressed out that I needed to file a police report, while staying home after feeling horrible- I go home to find my car is fine. Now I can’t even get myVW to talk to my car. So annoying

It’s Back

Welllll.... I’m glad that myVW is “fixed” and finally available to update- Seems to be working okay... Log In and set up was fairly easy.. All my info was still there and the only thing I had to do was add security questions. I did have to shut off the notifications about my doors being unlocked... I don’t need to be notified about that every few moments especially since it’s sitting in my garage.. Only issue I have with this new version of myVW would be the fuel ⛽️ calculation and miles to empty... myVW has it wrong... I just filled my tank up and it says I can only go 99 miles.. Perhaps it will update again... Otherwise it doesn’t seem like they really changed anything on myVW so not sure why an update was even necessary...?! Overall, I have no complaints

All this technology and nothing to do!

Maybe I’ve just gotten spoiled, but with all the technology that they pack into an electric car these days, you’d think that the could develop an application that can do more than just start or stop the charging of the battery or set the temperature of the ac. The saddest part is that what few things it does, it does poorly. It takes up to two minutes to ‘communicate’ changes to the car when you make a change. During that time myVW is locked in a wait screen.

I’d love an application that can do a bit more than this one can. Of course, I’d also love an app that doesn’t forget who I am everyday when I log in.

Overall, there is just so much more that could be done, it makes me wonder why they didn’t.

Warning, Remote Hack if Your New Car

VW like other car manufacturers have put telemetric & wireless capabilities in your new car, now they can track and record all aspects of your car movements, location and remote access from afar whether you agree or disagree. They sell your cars performance info to insurance companies declaring it is anonymous. This is same VW that lied about Diesel emission standards.

myVW is a sad option with limited functionality and value. After 5 days of trying to see value, I am deleting app and my account. Going to a 3rd party app and OBD2/4G device like Vyncs where I get what I pay for and no remote control of my car without my permission.

Sadly, your and my new VW is one hack away of a ransomeware attack preventing us access to our car from starting or someone hacking and gaing remote entry. It is not if, but when.

New update ruined this app

Instead of just logging in with my touch like I used to... now it opens up a browser within myVW then asks for your email... then password... then goes back to myVW .. makes you select your vehicle... then you have to force it to update. Then it sits there trying to update status. You have to close myVW and reopen it and it will show the latest update. Sending commands and receiving alerts doesn’t work like it should. Very poor service and very bad overall user experience. I’m on an iPhone 7 Plus. For something that requires a monthly subscription... none of these issues should be here. Nothing is more frustrating then trying to check on your vehicle in the middle of the night only to have to open up a 15 step process just to do it. This review will change once this is fixed.

Bugging but functional

The upgrade to this version took 2 week’s of service interruption, which is beyond unacceptable if I were to pay for the service.

Ignoring that failure myVW seems to work, looks cleaner and has all the features you would expect (minus the vehicle health report as email they used to offer).

Only 4 starts because it shows max range and zero charge when the car is actually fully charged. Plus it is annoying that you have to manually refresh to see the latest stats.

By

It simply does not work

As a user of GM OnStar on several vehicles, and their associated app (which works just fine) I was blown away at just how ridiculous the VW app is.
I spent a week trying to figure out why it would not read info from the car, speaking to both people at Car Net and then VW customer care, with each group telling me to talk to the other. Finally, I told VW customer care I wanted an escalation as I signed up and was paying for something that did not work. That prompted the “admission” that there is an ongoing and known issue and that while they’re working on it there is no ETA to have a fix. So, I asked again about a refund or credit since they’re advertising something that they know that they can’t provide. I was told that if any refund was provided it would be done after the issue is resolved.

I smell a class action lawsuit coming...

It is astonishing how bad this app is

I can't believe VW wants money for the car net service while the required companion app is so bad. It is a surprise when it remains logged in between sessions, you are CONSTANTLY forced to re-enter your credentials. If I get a notification that my car is unlocked I want to lock it now, not spend minutes signing in for the third time today! The UI is full of embarrassing bugs, for example it routinely reports that my cabin temperature is set to -4 degrees. Another big annoyance is that if you only have one connected car you still have to pick the only option from the list and enter a PIN every time. Just take me directly to the only place I could possibly go! And why are there settings that I can only change from the website??

Slow and buggy

Issues that still plague my user experience
- logged out daily or multiple times a day
- Siri Shortcuts always fail
- App is extremely slow to do virtually anything.
1st updated review below:
- I am constantly logged out, despite turning on “keep me logged in” (thought this was fixed, still happens constantly)
- (this is slightly better, but fail rate is still over 50% for me. I told my wife that she should expect 2 or 3 tries before a Siri command will work successfully) Siri Shortcuts don’t work. I presume because it needs you to be logged in (seems like a poor way to implement this feature if it’s going to log you out after some time)
- load times are still quite long
- a new issue for me is the remaining range is incorrect. Sometimes the mileage is correct, but the little gauge shows almost empty. If this is the case a shortcut that would have worked says I don’t have enough battery to remote heat the car. If I simply update the car it will work, but now I’ve spent way more time than if I just said “heat the car” to Siri and been done with it.

By

It works!

After plenty of frustration with the service I was finally able to log in. It offers the same functionality as the previous app and as long as it’s up and running it does what I need it to do most: monitor whether the car is locked or not (I have the bad habit of forgetting to lock it). I can also lock the car remotely if/when I forget to do it.

By

Not a great app at all

Considering I have to login EVERY TIME I open myVW I should give it one star. I check keep me logged in, but it means nothing. I definitely won’t be paying for this service since you can’t even remote start from myVW . myVW doesn’t refresh very well either when you are using it. When I do get logged in, the interface is okay, not great. Vehicle data is not reliable, estimated mileage left in the tank has gone all the way up to 99,999 and has yet to be accurate. Can’t remote start the vehicle using, not real sure what good myVW is other than to lock/unlock the car instead of handing off keys.

Horrible

I have a 2015 e-Golf. Car-net was horribly buggy back then and has stayed the same for almost 5 years. The latest version always shows the car as unplugged and never allows it to start charging. The web site works better, but still has all the old bugs: most commands need to be retried at least once. The departure times still change magically on their own. Even when it works it takes minutes to accept a command. The worst part is, for the 2015 egolf the ONLY way to charge the car to, for instance, 80%, is by paying for car-net. This is an essential function for an electric car and we shouldn’t have to pay forever for just owning the car.

By

Barely functional

If you have a 2019 car, don’t think this will allow for remote start - for that you need a 2020. Even though with a 2019 you need to PAY FOR THE SERVICE and 2020 gets it free. That’s insane.

Additionally, myVW always says my car is ‘unsecure’ (as in ‘unlocked’) no matter what. If I lock it with myVW , the car locks, but myVW says it was unlocked. Again, that is just wrong.

myVW is not user friendly and the service is not where it needs to be. VW should be embarrassed that nearly every other car connected service - even those from cars that are much less expensive - have apps that work and offer remote start. Seriously VW, what are you even doing?

By

Incredibly difficult to access

While the functionality is fine, accessing myVW is way too difficult. Each time you want to access myVW , you will be prompted with an email prompt, followed on a separate screen by a password prompt, then once you select your car, a Pin prompt finally gets you to the car details. This is even after being asked if I wanted to enable Face ID (which I did). Seriously? I would expect the Face ID verification is all that should be needed - that’s what my BMW access app requires.

This NEEDS to be fixed ASAP.

Outdated App Shows VW doesn’t care

The new app (even after the update on 19 Dec 2019) is no different from the update on Oct 24 and does not show if my car’s lights are left On like it previously did. I don’t see why I cannot know if my car is still running. Also, too many steps in myVW to reach the car controls. Why will I have to go through garage and select my car everytime? You can let consumers choose if they have they multiple cars that are on CarNet and provide the garage option only to those who need it. Inconsistent error alerts on health updates on roof which magically goes away and comes back while the sunroof works perfectly fine.

By

Some features not working

Overall myVW is good. But some features are not working properly. I have all time the information that the car is unlocked and it is wrong. When I send a destination to the navigation I have the information that it’s sent but when I arrive to my car and try to find this destination there is nothing. It will be great if you can fix those features. Thanks

Barely functional - big disappointment

myVW is barely functional. The previous version had plenty of bugs. This one might be worse. Big bummer because some functionality that other EVs have built in require myVW on the VW EGolf. If myVW doesn’t work, well then do I really have that functionality?

They ‘updated’ it which really meant myVW was non functional for about 3 weeks - full outage, huge privacy problems where people could see other people’s car locations in real time, etc.

Now myVW won’t let me stay logged in (somehow this problem got worse in the updated version), has a less intuitive UI, and is more buggy than before (e.g. says car is charging, 50% battery, 0 minutes until full battery 🤔)

To add insult to injury, nobody at VW knows when myVW will get fixed (or if it will at all) and carnet keeps sending me emails to extend my subscription. If this isn’t fixed, it could be a deal breaker on VW electric vehicles for me in the future.

An update broke this app

Used to log in to myVW , the receive notifications and be able to send commands. Now it regularly logs you out, needing some sort of in app browser to log you back in. The effect: *absolutely no updates* about your car (left unlocked, sunroof open, needs service...). The update killed myVW . Pls return to the original method of logging in! This *does not work*.

Bob   1 year ago

It is not working for me. Doesn’t show current information, doesn’t update often enough (hours) to be useful. Doesn’t accept changes that I try to make in settings.

Sandy   2 years ago

Car net remote start is not available in the app like the dealer told me it would be! I have a 2022 Passat. Very disappointing!

dan dumbauld   2 years ago

This has not worked since I purchased this car. Been with online support, IT and the dealer. They says they will get back to me for an update within 48 hours. Been 5 months and never heard from them. Call again to hear same story. My first VW and CarNet, assuming CarNet is owned by VW? No support No service have to wait 2 more years to get rid of both.

Glenna Ring   2 years ago

I received a health report stated car needed service for engine, transmission or drive train. Two days later the app states no problems found. Will low gas warning light or improper closure of gas cap cause this service message?

martin dean   3 years ago

Constantly getting message that “car is unlocked” and/or “trunk is open”—when car is actually locked, and it even says so if I open Car-Net. I had 12 such messages piled up overnight. How do I fix this?
