Good app, but condescending tone and shallow dives take a star away

I’ll start by saying that FitMind is very good to start out with. I really enjoyed the foundational content and that so many different things were introduced. My only gripes were that in some of the lessons, there was a “we are better than those other apps” tone to some of the lessons which made this feel like the Cobra Kai of meditational apps. Also, there were so many different things introduced but I never felt like there was clear direction as to where to go next to learn more about a topic - or if something was introduced in one lesson, then it was not brought up again. I think there can be clearer directions as to how to follow up on certain topics after introducing them.

For close to 40 years, I have been trying to meditate and in the last 10 days, with this app, I have made great strides than I have in the last 40 years. One of the first things I heard about mediations, years ago was, just sit there with your eyes closed and try to internally see your 3rd eye. I had no idea what they were talking about? Over the years, I would try to ask so called “seasoned meditators” question and basically what I was told was, “Stick with it kid, you’ll get it!” Ahhh yea, I don’t know anything about guns either, and applying that same advice could easily get me shot in the head! I stumbled onto FitMind, or it found me at last and THANK GOD! This Liam guy, in 10 days, has answered more questions, and has 10 me things which I never knew. I honestly am starting to feel more peace in my life. I am looking at my angry out burst differently and over all, I am becoming gentler with myself and those around me. I am using FitMind twice a day, once as soon as I get up, and once in the evening. Listen to the lesson first, and then go into the practice. I am so pleased with FitMind and my progress and I hope it continues. I’ve used other meditation Apps before, but this is the first one to discuss the scientific data behind the importance of meditation and mindfulness, which has my attention. FitMind separates itself by not just training users to meditate, but to employ mindfulness 24/7 so that it becomes a lifestyle. I never knew mindfulness can be, and should be, a constant state of mind. Really life changing I’m also finding the Lessons invaluable in explaining how critical meditation is for our minds, just as whole foods are for our bodies. All my life I’ve been “feeding” my mind the junk food that I refuse to give my body. Every person should not only be taught meditation practices, but every day mindfulness. In my many years as a product manager in tech, I can’t recall feeling compelled enough to write an app review. this app, though, is quite literally changing my life.
I’ve practiced mindfulness/meditation on and off for years. I even took an in-person mindfulness class to help with lifelong tendencies toward depression and anxiety.
Happening upon this app on Product Hunt, though, made me realize that I’d never really gotten the basics down before trying more advanced techniques. Unlike other meditation apps, this app’s gradual training eases you into core meditation techniques at your own pace. Plus, I love listening to the lessons on the Training tab to understand why I’m doing what I’m doing.
With this app, I’m starting to understand my mind and environments in ways that I never knew possible. I’m already becoming less dependent on external validations (job promotions, etc.), less reactive and more positive with EVERYONE I encounter.
I wholeheartedly recommend this app whenever the opportunity arises!
As a beginner to the practice of meditation, I find that FitMind is superior to other mediation apps in that it supplements each practice with a technical overview of the mediation and mental skills in-play. A better understanding of the mediation skills involved in each session allows me to apply what I’ve learned in one session to future sessions with noticeable progress in just a few days of practice.
The pace of training is also well-suited to beginners and Liam makes it easy for new meditators to commit to daily practice with 5-10 minutes guided sessions in the fundamentals training.
No McMindfulness or “Stress-Busting Tips” Here

At work we all have a co-worker who has been doing yoga for 500 years, or recently has come back from a mindfulness retreat in space, or has promised a secret visualization could make you lose so much weight you would exist only in the astral plane and sparkle.
Liam McClintock and his team have created the most exciting science-based app for meditation I’ve ever seen. FitMind puts meditation in the context of “training your mind” in a similar way as “training your body.” There is programming around breathing basics, awareness, endurance—this space is too small to go into detail. Tracking your progress is motivating. There are reading recommendations, daily challenges, and my favorite: podcasts with neuroscientists and psychologists.
*More than anything, these people care about others.* When I cancelled my subscription because of financial difficulties, they reached out to me. Without going into details, they gave me an incredibly open-hearted gift. That motivated me to write this review. I am grateful for these human beings.
If you like hard things, if you like getting out of your comfort zone, if you like learning about focus, pain and placebos, the way your mind structures your experience—try this kind of training. (It is totally compatible with astronomical and astral adventures too.)

Those apps you hear advertised are what got me to try meditation and start to build a habit. It felt good while I was doing it, but I didn’t feel like it was benefiting me throughout the day. It’s because they build habits, not a practice.
this app is in a league of its own. Absolute beginners are guided along a progressive course of fundamental basics to longer, more challenging mental workouts. As you progress, and for the more advanced folks, they offer deep dives into different techniques, revisit fundamentals, and help you build your practice, strengthen your mind, and be more present.
It’s been a lifesaver.

I have tried an array of meditation apps, playlists, audio tracks, etcetera. This is the first one that has kept my attention helped me to better understand the process as well as the purpose and also really helps me feel more calm and less scattered. I struggle with anxiety, depression, and major issues with concentration. FitMind has genuinely helped me immensely and I can't say enough good about I. Thank you so much for making something so truly helpful. Absolutely worth the membership too but if you don't believe me try it out with the free trial that's available.

this app is a great resource for both novices and those with some experience in meditation. I grew up with some familiarity with meditation, and had practiced for a few months before finding FitMind. I found its curriculum to be a very structured, approachable way of breaking down and understanding the science behind meditation techniques. I always had an issue staying on a constant meditation routine and when I used other apps that also guided my meditation, I always felt as if I was meditating incorrectly. FitMind, however, is the answer to my problems. Think about it, $80 on an investment for yourself will always worth it. Sensei Liam teaches you the path of meditation methodically. Backed up with empirical evidence, sensei encourages you to follow this path of knowledge of this powerful and ancient technique. I am an Emergency Physician who has been practicing medicine for 40 years, and meditation off and on for most of my life. Stress relief and mindfulness are an important part of my mental health safety check list. I have been using Fit Mind regularly for the past 2 months. It has been the most enlightening and useful self help program that I have ever worked with. The Covid19 Pandemic has been an especially stressful time and FitMind has been instrumental in keeping me centered and calm. The insight I have gained has been epic. I’ve been meditating daily for about 15 years, with a few brief periods when I stepped away from a daily practice. I’ve also taught meditation, mindfulness, and yoga for almost as long. And I’ve studied and practiced with many masterful teachers, some well-known, some not. FitMind, with its intro course on meditation, is by far one of the best meditation-learning experiences I’ve had. While there is no substitute for sitting with a teacher and receiving the teaching as a both a practical and energetic transmission, this is not always an option (nor is the value of that mode of learning really understood in Western culture). So in some ways, FitMind might actually reach people who would not otherwise see the value or want what is on offer in the mind-body-spirit paths. The instruction is clear, precise, and accessible to the novice, while providing a valuable refresher for more experienced meditators that will likely reinvigorate a practice. I’ve sent this to my kids and my parents, as I think they will all get something out of it.

I was in a bad place mentally and tried other apps out which didn’t help much, but then I came across the this app app. FitMind uses a practical, science based approach which is properly structured to help you literally strengthen your mind by building your focus, awareness, sorting out difficult emotions and more. Every training has a lesson to go with it so I know why I’m doing it which is absolute gold. I’ve been able to declutter my mind and find solutions to the problems I didn’t think I had solutions for before I started FitMind. FitMind is truly a diamond in the rough. Everybody I’ve recommended FitMind to has experienced how amazing it is. God Bless Liam and his team.
I practice TM and also love Sam Harris’ Waking Up app. This this app program takes a different approach than both of those and is helping me get to the next level of meditation. Supplementing the training with lessons helps you to understand why you are doing what you’re doing, how exactly to do it, where your struggles may be, and how to get back on track when you lose focus. I was planning on just using the free trial period, (for financial reasons), but believe FitMind is well worth the money so am going to continue. If you have tried mediation and struggle with it or don’t care for the ‘mystical’ or spiritual type aspects of meditation and want a more structured approach to a healthy mind exercise, this is it! Give it a try!
This one’s for you. The learning based, factual data, and scientific explanations are engaging to my ADD brain. The information given is intriguing and absolutely vital for me to meditate. I need interesting, or my brain will be wondering to something more interesting. The sessions are short (again, ADD brain) and I get more from 6 minutes than I do with 20 minutes with other apps. The lessons get longer as you progress, but the idea is to build a foundation and build from there. And Liam’s voice and tone are spot on. Yes, I use FitMind for real, and No, I haven’t been paid to write this review. However, I am more than happy to accept a free subscription, if Liam wants to be generous. Just a little bird in your ear, Liam.

I've had a regular meditation practice for roughly 5 years now & have made more progress with this app in the last 3 months than I have with other apps / on my own in the last 2 years. Liam is an excellent guide & him and his team have curated the perfect comprehensive step by step guide to begin to master the basics of various meditative practices, drawing upon ancient practices as well as modern psychology & neuroscience to do so (side note - I appreciate Liam's acknowledgment of & respect for the cultures from which these practices originated - something I feel is lacking from most other meditation apps). New content is added on a regular basis for those looking to dive deeper after finishing the first 30 days & I HIGHLY recommend listening to the podcast as well.

I’ve tried every meditation app under the sun and have always ended up bored or put off. I’m realizing now that it’s because I was being given nearly the same content every day and expected to stay motivated. this app is different in that the program is straightforward yet buildable so it feels like I’m working toward something. It’s a 0 pressure environment, and I think because of this, 10 minute mediations fly by. I read a good bit of criticism in the reviews for the narrator, but I personally find him so relatable and realistic that it feels like I’m just sitting with a friend. This doesn’t feel like meditation in the spiritual sense, it feels like a very grounded, strategic method to gain control of your mind. The lessons that follow the trainings are also great and entertaining. I don’t know if it’s obvious yet, but I think FitMind is great! 10/10

After listening to just a few of the lessons offered on FitMind I am blown away at how simple yet intelligent the information is communicated so that anyone at any level of mindfulness & meditation practice can gain new access. It might be because of my background in fitness as a personal trainer, fitness competitor, group fitness instructor or it might be because I’m a single mother working full time and raising my son full time that these short segments are so appealing. I rarely take time to write a review because I am so busy. But this is a must review for yourself. this app offers the free trial so why not just give it a try and then it’s only $4.99 monthly. That’s the price of a Starbucks coffee! this app is a way better way to get that pick me up you are searching for. Awesome work this app!

I am currently teaching a mindfulness based course with youth at risk, and I’m always looking for new mindfulness/breathing apps to share with them. I’m a male in my mid 20’s, and at times with a rigid template of habits, but not somebody who would have pursued meditation on my own. FitMind makes it not only readily accomplishable, but robs those “strong minded” of the excuse to keep avoiding it. FitMind introduces you to a plethora of meditation techniques, some will serve better than others depending on who you are. I love the explanation aspects it has because it gives you a better understanding of meditation and the human mind. My only critique about FitMind is that i don,t see other language options. This is an app that i can see greatly benefitting people i know but because of the language barrier, i can’t recommend it yet. I hope the team sees this review so they can expand upon their audience and help more people.

This program has something for everyone no matter how far along you are in meditation progression. I’ve been meditating for years and have learned techniques from the insight tradition of Theravada Buddhism, to the mantra repetition of Transcendental Meditation. Also the mental state training of NLP. FitMind has a perfect progression of blended techniques to help bring one from the monkey mind to a poised Fit Mind. The blended progression is perfect for people just learning and getting exposed to techniques, or someone who’s been working on a practice for years. Highly recommend!
The this app app is an excellent resource for those experienced with or just beginning the practice of meditation. I’ve been using Sam Harris’s Waking Up app for the past year and found that this app is an excellent compliment to the practices and theory discussed by Sam. Liam’s extensive experience and understanding of meditation has allowed me to strengthen and deepen my own daily practice. FitMind has helped me to completely change my perspective. In today’s environment, everyone is expected to do everything in our “go go go” society. By living at full speed, we often forget to step back and be mindful. this app has helped me to change my perspective and slow down. I’m so used to meditation apps using the hype of science, and oh it helped this celebrity etc, I’m always let down when it ends up not holding a candle to insight timer.
This may be the first thing I’ve come across that gives insight timer a run for its money, and in so many ways is actually a more thought out, more engaging way to work the muscle of your mind.
Color me surprised, but I’ve actually started to include the possibility of pauses and awareness into my day. It seems to be working. Woah
