Metascan - 3D Scanner Reviews

Having tried almost all of the LiDAR scanning apps, this one is the best so far. The price is reasonable for hobbyist use, it exports models directly, and is very user friendly. Additionally, the free trial is useful as it allows you to try all of the features before you drop the cash on it.
Huge fan of Metascan!!

Incredibly, Metascan only functions in portrait, making it infuriating to use with an iPad that has been attached to a keyboard.

I've got the 8GB of RAM M1 iPad and it couldn't handle scanning an entire house without crashing and losing the entire scan. Also produced a bunch of floating glitches from one part of the house to another. Doesn't seem to be able to capture fine enough resolution to not put holes in a 2x4 wall with drywall because it thinks it's too thin.

An absolute joy to use compared to the other apps. I have no problem giving them my money.

Would love to see an implementation of loop closure to eliminate drift, but I’m also supposing Apple might introduce that and all downstream apps like Forge may get it as a part of ARKit. Here’s hoping, anyway.

I needed something fast and easy to use and this performed better than my test of matterport’s scanning app. Other apps just haven’t seemed to figure out the speed like Forge has.

this app is an excellent way to capture and create 3d on the iPhone. Many app to choose from, but if you have to choose only one; this would be an excellent choice.

Lidar mode is excellent and some new option for increasing the scan volume (big scans!).

Meshing is excellent, semi sane topography and photogrammetry images based scans are excellent.

Texturing is also very good on both lidar and photo scans

Awesome app, I’ve tested a couple of them and this app is the most consistent, delivering high quality texture and processed images. Also Lidar is great for large scenes.

I’ve tried all the apps and this app has the best UI, is the fastest, and produces the highest quality scans - both for room size captures and small objects. Recommend.

Metascan does what it promises. Feedback to developers is well received and responsive. I purchased the yearly membership and have no regrets. Worth it.

This is the best scanner app, but it won’t upload when you attempt to share it… So it’s pretty pointless, regardless of how good the scan is, unless you prefer your scans to be trapped on your phone.

Exact steps:
After making the scan, click share > copy link > wait to process… it hits “100%” > then it pops up with “upload failed. Unknown error.”

Using iPhone 13 Pro, everything is updated.

Very unhappy about this I would caution others about using the trial as well.

Truthfully, I got an iPhone 12 handed down to me. I was the next in line for an upgrade, expecting not much to change. Other then a switch from android to IOS… I was so. Wrong. Cameras are sweet, and the best thing? Apps like this. Taking advantage of LiDAR is amazing. I have been using Metascan to work on a project. Making my entire house for vr. I have successfully done it. And it’s amazing.

Wow! It took me seconds to scan a landscape, send it to myself, and get it into Unity.
