Wow. Two steps back

As someone that used the previous flashcard app from Chegg, I can confirm what other reviewers have stated. CheggPrep is horrible and the other was a great learning tool. If they simply put the old app back it would be a marked improvement. Note that I’ve never written a review of an app before, so take this as constructive criticism. I don’t know if the founders family member designed CheggPrep and management was forced to deploy it. But this is a fail from a management position to not allow people a choice to keep the old app. It’s also a fail from a developer position as it lacks the rudimentary basics to be helpful. You can’t search well. You can’t rate these decks so people can not waste their time with all the decks with errors. Keep in mind these are student decks and mistakes are all over. Further when you review a deck it automatically is attached to your Home Screen and you have no ability to delete it from there. I could go on and on. The UI — facepalm... care about your potential customers and your brand and do what’s right to fix this. I think the previous app was licensed to Chegg and they didn’t renew. Well, you're really harming people’s ability to study by servering the partnership in such a fashion. Own up to it and recover from this disaster.

Just bring Chegg Flashcards back!

Like many users, I also had to forcibly switch to this from Chegg Flashcards. I haven’t had any problems with decks or cards being deleted and the multiple choice quiz mode is a nice addition, hence the two stars. However...

Not being able to sort decks into categories is a big problem. I don’t understand why they would remove this feature. It’s very inconvenient for those not studying in the US, because you can only sort your decks into courses from American universities. I messaged the developers about missing features and they only responded to my suggestion about having the option to disable saving cropped pictures. I’m getting the impression that the current developer team doesn’t have the necessary skills or resources to implement very basic features that are being demanded by so many users. They seem to be pretty slow at solving bugs too... In any case, I will probably switch to another app.

You will LOSE your flash cards!!!

Like others have said, I was using the older version and without any notification or warning was made to download this version and lost a recent deck I just made.

Decided to download this version anyway and spent hours doing a new set of flash cards only to have it all ERASED when I went to other apps and came back to it later because of normal use (answering phone, checking text messages, etc...). The developers should feel ashamed that so many have reported this but have not fixed this problem. People have depended on this to help them learn things to pass tests or better themselves only to have all of that wasted.

Seriously the developers should feel ashamed. If not, then I guess you are just soulless creatures who don’t care and this review doesn’t matter to you. But to everyone else, beware and maybe try another app unless you enjoy your hard work destroyed and taken away from you.

Horrible App An Embarrassment for a serious company

I spent many years using the original app which was called Flashcards+. The old App did so much more and was elegant. Chegg forced everybody to switch to their version which more than likely they had to wait from scratch. It is a watered down version of the original Five Star App. I’ve been waiting for it to improve and give it a chance. They have been working on it for over year and a half and still can’t get it right (‘pretty embarrassing for a text book company promoting education). Does not support landscape, and it’s riddled with bugs. Today I decided to try their multiple choice feature and it doesn’t work on an iPad Pro with the latest iOS. You click the answer and nothing happens, can’t even advance to the next question. If I didn’t have a bunch of decks already, I would have switched to anything other than Chegg Prep

Better then I thought

I've never been a fan of flash cards, but this site has changed my mind! My wife and I each have three tests coming up. All of which will be needed, to be taken at the same time. My wife set up the cards for all three tests and we're learning the info. Since we're both taking the test and are 58 years old, having to learn and memorize all the information is a challenge. I highly recommend CHEGG Prep!!😊

Hours of work lost

I previously had 100s of Flashcards on Chegg’s Flashcards app. After installing an update CheggPrep will not allow me access to my Flashcards, said it was no longer supported and I needed to use this Chegg prep app. I downloaded CheggPrep and signed in and only a small portion of my Flashcards are there. Dozens and dozens of hours are gone. I’m sure there’s some explanation that I had somehow signed out of the flashcard app at somepoint but this is maddening. I cannot even access the old app anymore. I don’t care if you’ve stopped supporting it, you should let me access it and get my data. I have no use for all these fancy features. All I wanted was a simple flashcard app.
I shouldn’t have to login in the first place. Just let me save things locally and give me control over the work I create. I will be looking for a different app.

This isn’t an upgrade

Chegg must have lost the rights to the previous program. This replacement is so inferior and basic compared to Chegg Flashcards+ that they must be just starting out from scratch. They probably do have the rights to our previous cards. So they can import (some of ) them into the new program. There are other more mature products out there that are a much better choice than CheggPrep. None of them are as good as Chegg flashcards+. I would not waste my time begging Chegg to bring back the old app. There was a reason they killed it, and I am convinced that they were forced to by whoever owns the rights to that program. Otherwise, they would never have put out CheggPrep, especially being as basic an nonfunctional as it is.

New update still doesn’t speak and isn’t compatible with landscape mode for iPad. I think I will stick with Quizlet

Hours of work got deleted 🥲

I chose this because of the free addition of the pictures, but after several hours of making my batch of cards, it disappeared because it apparently refreshed in the background and didn’t save what I was still working on. Mind you, I needed to go back and forth between CheggPrep and others like safari for information and pictures and such, so this is a major problem. It also has less organization options than other services. All in all I think if you fix these major bugs it could be a really good app, but as of now I want to cry because school = anxiety, and hours of lost work = anxiety, so basically I’m just gonna cry 🥲

Ruined a great tool

I’ve been using study blue throughout nursing school and now the hundreds of hours I spent making notecards is gone. I lost most of my sets and none of them are organized in my classes anymore. I tried to organize the decks into classes but according to CheggPrep my school has no classes and we can’t even create a class anymore. I’m in my last semester of nursing school and I was suppose to be able to use all the decks I made over the year to study for the NCLEX but now I can’t. It is disappointing that you can’t even choose which cards you want to study anymore. CheggPrep is very lagging while studying so I decided to try the online website and it is even worse. You ruined an amazing tool that has helped me for many years.

Not as good as study blue

Hello developers, I hope you get this review. I am okay with you guys switching from study blue to this but if you are going to do that, please make it so when I study my flash cards, I can study the ones I did wrong and can track my progress the same way as study blue did. Also when I try to log in on the Chegg prep app with my google account that I used for study blue, I get an error message saying “something went wrong”. Please fix this as I don’t want to remake all my flash cards again. Other than that, I see Chegg prep being a success as long as you guys listen to the users. Thank you for reading.

Lost Flashcards

I was forced to switch from the Flashcards app to Prep and lost most of my custom cards. I had a deck entitled “Words,” which contained around 330 definitions of interesting words I’d come across over the years. Any time I read or heard a new word, I’d look it up and manually add it to the list. These words were awesome and have contributed to increasing my vocabulary greatly. When I moved to Chegg Prep, only 98 words remained.

I tried to chat on the Chegg website with a Chegg Support agent and it was absolutely worthless. I had to keep repeating myself and they didn’t seem to understand the problem. This is a big disappointment, as I spent years collecting those words and would quiz myself on them regularly.

Used to be good

Was using the old program and put in about 30 cards manually. Then the next day I open CheggPrep up and it’s like “LOL, you can’t use CheggPrep any more. Get the new one”. So I get the new one and it goes “LOL, I lost 29 of your 30 new cards”. I figure it’s a problem with the transition so I do another hour of work creating another 30 cards or so and the next day guess what, “LOL, I dumped all of your new cards but one again”. Well, it was nice using CheggPrep before but I’m done with the new version. Maybe I’ll still look at some of my old decks, or just delete CheggPrep since I can’t seem to get anything new to stick. Bummer.

By

Much better, but

This is an update that is very important to me. It was really bad that you have to study the whole deck whenever you stop studying. Now being able to review the ones you got the ones you missed and not reviewed yet is very good. But still nothing at all like check Flashcards was. Such a shame that you took that program away from us but at least now I can study and not have to redo the whole deck. Thank You 😊

This app is a waste of time.

I was using CheggPrep to learn a scheme for my job. I made a set of cards all well and good. The next day I added more cards. Then CheggPrep developed a problem and it said it’s not you it’s us and to come back later. When I came back later it had deleted all the new things I added. An hour’s worth of work. So I spent another hour typing in the things that got deleted and i came back today after not using CheggPrep for three days and again it deleted everything I added to the original deck. I’ve had it with CheggPrep. I’m going to try one by a different developer. I’m not stupid enough to waste my time trying a third time.

Can’t study missed flash cards only

I like CheggPrep but two things that really bother me- whenever I take a break from studying the flash cards, it doesn’t let me resume where I left off. 2- there are no other options but “study all flash cards” from each set. I’d like to have the option to study a small number of flashcards from ear set at a time, or at least let me study the ones that I didn’t get right. I make hundreds of flashcards at a time it makes it really hard to study them with CheggPrep. Please update, I have a major exam coming up soon and I was forced to leave study blue for CheggPrep.

Lost Card - Wasted Effort

I had originally planned on using the Flashcards app locally. Hence, I didn’t really pay attention to the account creation process. Fast forward to 2020 and CheggPrep is no longer supported (with no warning, whatsoever) and Chegg has the audacity to tell me that I need to login again on a whole new app to recover years’ worth of effort.

When I opened CheggPrep, I was appalled to find that it wasn’t optimised for the iPad at all and, on the whole, was rather rough around the edges. So, not only did the geniuses at Chegg lay out hurdles to transitioning between apps, they made the final app as barebones as they possibly could get away with.

I hope whichever brainlet that greenlit this endeavour is happy with themselves.

Quite possibly the best flashcard app

This is quite possibly the best flashcard app out there and one of the easiest to use.
Chegg has pretty much addressed and fixed all of the bugs and now this is a SOLID AND RELIABLE app that is a joy to use because of its simplicity and ease of use
Five stars all the way and thank you for listening to our concerns

Lost almost all my flashcards

Without any warning I was forced off the Slides+ app, and although I logged in with the same account, NONE of my recent slides are here on the new app. Some are here, but not all of them by a mile, and not organized by any of the decks/courses I had created in the previous app. I just effectively wasted hours and hours of my life creating flashcards yesterday, and today I log in and they are all gone. I’m literally crying at the prospect of starting my entire test prep process over. what a horrible thing to do to students. I’ll be trying to find alternate flashcard apps, I cannot trust Chegg.

By

Pretty good app, wouldn’t mind a few more features

I like that you can add pictures, randomize the deck, and flip the whole deck at once. I think allowing decks to be shuffled as default would be a nice feature. Also, giving us the option to study a random deck would stop me from avoiding those “easy” decks. Maybe a progress tracking system, like a graph, would be helpful. Thanks for a nice app overall.

By

Best choice to download

If you are trying to study for any test this is the best app to use, you can make as much decks without getting a message that you need premium. Honestly I wish I found CheggPrep earlier because it has helped me to study a lot faster and more efficiently than I used to.

By

Good app

I really like CheggPrep it’s super simple to use and works great on my phone so I have my flash cards any where. I also like that it allows you to check off whether you knew the card or not. My only complaint is there isn’t a way to go back and review only the cards you marked as didn’t know. If they added that it’d be perfect

Best app to study!

CheggPrep is amazing! You can create your own flashcards and organize information. Before the exam, you just have to study them very quickly!

Where is Landscape View???

Chegg took a great app (Flashcards) and ruined it. The new app has way fewer functions than the old Flashcard app. Just one example: it only allows portrait view - no landscape mode. As others have mentioned, they locked me out of the old app without warning and forced me to move to the new app. Rule of thumb: If they have to force you to make the switch, then they know it isn’t really a better product. I’m now exploring new options for flashcards apps. I can no longer in good conscience recommend the Chegg app.

The “update” destroyed the app

I’ve spent years building thousands of Cantonese study cards on the Chegg app. In addition to study, I used the search function to find groupings of terms and to search a word if I needed it. The new “upgraded” app doesn’t have a search function within that deck of cards (a reason I got the original app to begin with). Now if I want to find a card I have to scroll through 4000+ cards.

Each card had an English translation, the phoneticized Cantonese, and the Chines character. I had vocab, phrases, conversations, martial art terms, movie stuff, everything. It took my forever to make these. Wasted time now.

Worse yet there is no capability to download the cards so I can put them in my own database. Chegg has literally stolen my six+ years of work and research in a puff of smoke.

USE ANY OTHER FLASHCARD APP.

Missing features that Flash Cards had

I liked flash cards, it’s format was easy to use. One great feature it had was the voice option. This was great for finding the right pronunciation of words when learning a foreign language. I asked a professor if the pronunciation in CheggPrep was close to being right, she said it was good. With more learning from home, this would be a great feature to add to CheggPrep because it was very helpful. Till it is added, I can only say CheggPrep is not a good upgrade.

By

Lost decks

I’ve lost over a hundred flashcards since they forced the update. They’re just gone. Whatever attempted interest from Chegg at retrieving the lost cards has since passed.

I, along with most other folks that used the previous version of Flashcards/prep, could make an extensive list of how the previous iteration was vastly superior. Instead of doing that, I’ll reduce it to one super confusing issue: no search feature? I enter a deck with 100+ cards and I can’t search within it. How and why?

By

Shadow of it’s former self

CheggPrep had wasted my time, so I will in turn use some time to warn others. Unfortunately CheggPrep no longer delivers anything near the previous app. It is counter intuitive and convoluted. R.I.P. Flashcards+. CheggPrep also has a lot of bugs you can read about in the comments. But DO NOT FRET MY FRIENDS! Go download the Quizlet app, and in 20 minutes after a short learning curve, you will be so happy that you have switched to a much much better app for flash cards.

Switching to the newer app deletes your decks

I sat down and created 9 decks of Korean vocabulary that I’ve been learning and when I was forced to switch to the newer app, it deleted 8 of my decks and I can’t find them. I tried to check on the website and my decks are still missing. I even tried signing in and out. I’m so angry and disappointed. I’ll find an app that can perform better because this is ridiculous. If it doesn’t appear by tomorrow, I’m deleting my account and CheggPrep .

By

Suggestions

Great beginning version, Chegg! Like how our cards’ content from old app transferred automatically to this new app.
Requests:
• Please eliminate the “see more” button when cards have lengthy content. Think simplicity. The fewer the buttons to push the better.
• Need ability to paste images onto an individual flash card.

By

Don’t waste your time

Chegg, you guys have out done yourselves at really destroying something good. By far the worst app I have tried, and I grew up with the orig. IPhones. How can I study anything when the search results are flooded with nonsense that has nothing to do with what I’m looking for.
It’s generic, it’s sloppy, and I think you guys need to pull CheggPrep and do some serious work on it before the already limited time of students is further wasted by trying to navigate this mess.

Crappy app

CheggPrep is a good app when your saved cards aren’t getting lost to the multiple bugs they have. I lost like 700 flash cards that I spent a lot of time on to this stupid update so im done using it. Big waste of time making Flashcards with CheggPrep dont waste your time using it. You may lose your flash cards one day when day when you want to reuse your flash cards dont be surprised when there gone.

Five and a half years of language study vocabulary lost when Chegg deactivated the old app without prior warning, unbelievable.

Brittney Zavala   3 years ago

I suppose I should have done my research before continuing with this flash card application. I just spent hours of valuable time to study for finals and the new additions to my deck did not save. The autosave feature is deceitful because it seems like it is saving your work. I am very angry and will not be utilizing this resource again.
