This works well for Broadway shows. But it is surprisingly undeveloped for regional theater, even for major regional theater cities like Washington DC; and it also lacks some very basic interface features.
For DC, MezzanineTheaterDiary ’s database doesn’t have even recent productions of major plays by popular regional theatres. It doesn’t even prepopulate the “theater” entry field for major regional theatres like Studio Theater or Arena Stage. So those theatre names and productions have to be manually entered.
Even worse, manual entries don’t appear to be saved. So each time I have to again manually type in the name of the theater.
MezzanineTheaterDiary doesn’t even appear to have a pull-down list of cities to select. Those too have to be typed in manually over and over again.
The lack of stored cities and regional theaters—and the failure to save even manual entries—not only makes using MezzanineTheaterDiary more cumbersome, but also introduces needless inconsistency and errors (if, for instance, I spell it “Washington, DC” one time and “Washington, D.C.” another time).
I think right now MezzanineTheaterDiary is best advertised as a way for New York theater fans to track what they’ve seen. It doesn’t seem to be minimally useful for productions outside of NY; it lacks even remedial features for regional theater, even though most theater happens outside of NY.

There is a bug that causes the title of a list to appear over a show when the full list is opened. Other than that it’s an excellent app.

i’ve been looking for an app like this (“letterboxd or goodreads but for theater”) for a few months and this one is really promising! anything not on broadway (smaller off-broadway or regional shows) should be developed more, but you’re currently allowed in add your own shows so your diary can stay accurate. i’d love a friends/following feature and a homepage for shows to see what other people say about them, but i love this so far!

Okay, so I thought that the only way to keep track of my Broadway shows was the Notes app on my phone or my Playbill collection. Until I discovered MezzanineTheaterDiary and now my life has changed! I’m loving to go through my Playbill collection and adding all my shows to the grid! HOW COME I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THIS BEFORE??? Thank you for your awesome job ❤️

I track books on Goodreads, movies on Letterboxd, and sporting events on Sports Passport. I was missing one other hobby: Broadway shows. Mezzanine has the diary tracking feature I was looking for; it isn’t perfect, missing a place to add photos from the event and I couldn’t get the program thing to work, but there’s space for ratings, reviews, and even ticketing. Gotta see if there’s a friend feature; if not, that would be a must. But I am an instant fan—I’d even be willing to support the project financially. Great work!

Really great app! I heard about it in the Musicals with Cheese podcast years ago (definitely recommend that too) and have been using it ever since. I love all of the little features such as reviews, statistics of how many theatres you've been to and shows per year, and even more.
One small suggestion I'd make is that now since profiles are public, maybe user bios could be a thing? Probably in development but still should be said. Keep up the great work!

I LOVE MezzanineTheaterDiary! I however wish that a few features were to be added.
1) A better search bar, and a better way to find your friends.
2) The option to add shows from Community and School theatre. If you’re like me, a broke high schooler, and you can’t go see a lot of professional theatre, you watch community theatre. I would love to see a section in the discover page dedicated to non-professional theatre.
3) This may be going beyond what MezzanineTheaterDiary was designed for, but a way to log your own roles for shows you’ve performed.
These are just things I’d love to see. That being said, it’s an amazing app, and I can’t wait to keep using it!

I’ve been looking for an app like this for a long time and then along came Ben with Mezzanine. This is a fantastic app to easily track all the performances you’ve seen and keep a digital record of where you sat and what you liked or didn’t about the venue and performance all in one place. Ben is also extremely responsive to feedback. I can’t recommend MezzanineTheaterDiary enough!

I've been looking for an app like this. This allows you to keep track of all shows that you have seen, where you saw, where you sat, add notes, and rate shows. This is the perfect app for all theatre lovers! Even allows you to add notes under each production. Thanks so much for creating an app for us theatre lovers!

Honestly, I’m surprised no one made anything like this sooner. I’ve been a beta tester since the beginning and MezzanineTheaterDiary is such a great way to keep track of shows I see. The developer is also extremely responsive when it comes to adding new shows, new artwork, and responding to suggestions from the community!

I really enjoy the premise of MezzanineTheaterDiary and I’m excited to watch it grow!
Tonight I’m going to go through and add in every show I have seen since high school. 🤪

I’d been looking for an app like this for years - if I had any programming know-how, I would have made one myself.... but it would have been nowhere near as great as Mezzanine. I’ve been a beta tester for months, and absolutely love it. The developer has done a spectacular job already, I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

Mezzanine has been my favorite app since Broadway has reopened. Great and Simple UI and new how’s are updates so quickly! Definitely recommend even for the casual theater-goer!

For years I’ve wanted a better way to track shows I’ve seen than staring at a big stack of programs. So glad MezzanineTheaterDiary is here. Keeps getting better, too!

I love MezzanineTheaterDiary, it fills a niche for theater lovers and is simple and easy to use. I especially appreciate the ability to organize shows into lists, which I use to keep track of my wish list.

I've been using MezzanineTheaterDiary since its beta stages and love to see how much MezzanineTheaterDiary continues to grow and develops new features. It's one of those apps that will never be 100% complete and I'm excited to see what new features will come with time.

When I moved away from home a few years ago, I made the mistake of throwing out playbills and ticket stubs (in an attempt to declutter) and it’s something I’ve regretted since!! Then I found mezzanine and I have had some fun filling in my diary with shows, reviews and even pictures of shows that I’ve seen. I’ve searched through photos and past calendars to make sure I’m putting in everything ha. I look forward to seeing what more MezzanineTheaterDiary will do. I like that it doesn’t feel identical to Fb, instagram or other social media apps, I hope it stays that way. This feels different!
