I installed HomeyAbettersmarthome and signed up to try it out. It’s only useful if you buy the hardware. Now I can’t delete my account. All the information about deleting my account doesn’t work and inaccurate. I definitely would not recommend it.
For a device that costs around 400 euros, the support is poorly managed. HomeyAbettersmarthome itself is even worse when you consider the timeline: four years on and you still can't hide devices, and the new features can be counted on one hand. Now, there's also a new section in the middle of the screen asking me to leave a review... well, here it is.
I love the interface, creating automations through the flow app is amazing, the layout is super easy to follow. BUT, I have over 15 devices that I used for so many years with another z-wave controller with no issues and now don’t work and need to replace them, not nice. Constantly lose connection to Kasa lights and have to keep re-authenticating. Some of of the older plugs keep turning off which I never had issues with. Distance coverage for zwave devices is horrible, I never had issues with that before with my old controller. I bought a thread device but not able to use it because thread without matter is not supported. Basically a great concept and vision but very poor execution. They should not claim the most advanced and the most supported devices because totally not true. If there is no app the developer created for homey the it is useless. Homey should be creating these apps not the develop.
Homey Pro is a great concept. But it needs a lot of polishing.
For one thing, navigation through HomeyAbettersmarthome is not all that intuitive (to my mind). For another, some very basic stuff seems to be missing from HomeyAbettersmarthome : namely, the ability to grip lights or devices (like blinds) together so you can turn on/off (or open/close) all of them in the group with one click.
Also, the quality of apps is average at best. And many stop responding in HomeyAbettersmarthome , which is a pain.
Finally, support is kind of awful. I have tried several times to get help with issues with my app, and it feels like the emails go straight to the trash.
Such a shame. Homey had a lot of potential, but it is hampered by a lot of issues, great and small.
Is this some kind of a joke? I bought a 400EUR device and now I need to pay additional 1EUR per month to fully use it? This is outrageous and unfair.
HomeyAbettersmarthome needs a serous update. Let’s start with the basics, like the Dark Mode.
Basic functionality but very poor connectivity to devices. Things that worked with a 5 year old smartthings hub don’t connect and even if there is an app it is poor. Also does not render full screen on iPad Pro.
Based on reviews I expected much more. Used SmartThings before. And have to say that it was unfortunately more stable than what I have experienced with honey so far. Even officially supported devices from aqara and Namron do not really work reliably. The namron thermostats actually stop working constantly after ca one day. The same is true for the aqara motion detectors. Incredible disappointing
The Homey Pro presents itself as a promising smarthome product, but its current state in the US market suggests it's not quite ready for prime time. Homey Pro I would have classified more as a BETA offering, it falls short as a replacement for established platforms like Home Assistant, Apple HomeKit, or SmartThings. The application exhibits some polish, yet device support, especially for older Z-Wave devices, remains limited. The community-driven nature of applications might not align with users seeking a more curated experience.
Flows resemble those of Node-RED which seem can be powerful for only the devices with good integrations.
The prime benefit would only be support for specific radios (z wave, zigbee, etc) as long as you don’t have older devices.
Unfortunately, the rattling issue, indicative of quality construction, raises concerns about the device's build quality.
I wish I would have waited and asked questions regarding the application integrations before spending my hard earned money at this point.
Setting up Homey Pro is a little frustrating.I have done this 3 different times and I will probably be doing another restart and setup a few more times. I think that the User Interface (UI) is lacking. Scrolling is poor at best. Deleting Zones need to be improved. The use of Shift Keys and other optional keys is poor.I am actually considering sending the device back and wait for inprovements.
The homey app itself isn’t bad - it’s update regularly with good new features too. The homey pro platform and device is one of the most capable in the market. Since they recently expanded to the US, integrations might be missing but the community and open system make it easy to fill those gaps.
Professional product. Graphical flows are easy to understand. Supports a wide variety of protocols. To be a top competitor in the market with a pricey hub I expect support to be responsive. Three or four weeks for a response is poor service. A great product has all the above and great service. If one invests the time and money for a smart home it is important to have responsive service when your controller fails. If Athom/LG can fix this they will have a top tier, competitive product.
HomeyAbettersmarthome runs smoothly, responds quickly, but is missing two main features.
1. Why can’t I rearrange the order of my devices and floors (zones)?
2. Why can’t I make advanced flows on my iPad? I understand that this would be difficult to do on a small screen size like an iPhone, but I do not understand why an iPad is incapable of this. At the very least, make the website compatible with editing and creating advanced flows from the iPad.
Even if you have to replace some smart devices.
Love the ease of use of honey to automate. Flows are a lot easier for me to set up then building them in script like other smart home platforms. Homey works well with most devices I own
Thank you for giving detailed release notes! That is invaluable.
Great product, impressed with the Flow feature. Straightforward set up.
There’s a slight learning curve to figuring out how to pair your devices, especially if there’s not a brand specific app available. With that said, I’ve been a Smarthings user for approximately 10 years, and I absolutely love how the Homey Pro functions, not to mention, the visualization of the advanced flows is amazing. It did take me awhile, and some research to figure out how to connect my first Aqara P2 presence sensor sense it’s not included in the Aqara app just yet. Over all, I highly recommend it. If I can do it, so can you.
