Why do you need a Reddit account to use this app?

So I was told about Dystopia through an iPhone users for the blind group list. I was going to get it. Or should I say I did get it. But the problem now is that trying to access the information I signed up for. I used my Apple ID and signed in. But I still have to have a write account? Why? Also, why am I not able to get the notifications for things I signed up for to be notified about? I’m giving this one star because this needs some serious accessibility issues worked on. Why do I need to have the official Reddit application on my phone?

Doesn’t let me sign in.

I log in to Reddit via browser and accept the permissions, but it doesn’t return to app and log me in via this app properly. Restarted app, revoked perms and retried several times, still didn’t work properly.

Great app, but abandoned

This is a great, simplistic, and accessible implementation of Reddit, but it’s slowly falling apart. It seems to have been abandoned. It currently lacks support for the new version of Reddit links, as well as being unable to open Imgur images, which means that quite often you’ll find yourself reaching dead-ends while browsing. It’s still worth using, but it seems to be fated to break completely eventually

Issues clicking links

Links to reddit in comments and posts that are reddit links fail to open, throwing 404. Other times, reddit links will open in safari. Rather annoying.

Missing key features

No popular, no multireddit, no favorite subs

Really good start

Firstly I hope we get some updates soon. The things that would be great are have the alphabet on the right side like Apollo did so you can quickly get to where you want to go. Other big thing is to have it show what subreddit it’s from when scrolling through the front page in a different location cause it kinda just blends in and is hard to read

404 errors

Nice, lightweight client with no ads/in app purchases. Only issue is when there’s a link to Reddit content within a comment I can’t open it because it just gives a 404 error. Would be nice if there was at least a way to copy the link so I could open it in my browser.

Excellent

Good app

Minimal is beautiful

Great job.

Great app

This is a wonderful application. it's very accessible with voiceover, for the blind. I am totally blind, and it's wonderful to finally be a part of reddit. I heard all third party apps for this site have disappeared due to reddit's updates and fees? I truly hope Dystopia stays active. All the other apps have disappeared from Dystopia store. And the other app I tried downloading spits out a "fatal error." I really hope this can always stay.

Fantastic app

I swapped to this app when Reddit started to kill third-party apps. This doesn’t have all of the features of the official app, or the pre-IPO unofficial apps, but it runs about ten times faster and is incredibly simple to use. There is so much potential for Dystopia. So much. I really want to see Dystopia flourish and supersede the poor experience the Reddit IPO gives to mobile users. Please make it happen.

Great app for visual impairment.

Dystopia is great for people with a visual impairment. Thank you Dev for making this. I guess some people are upset that it isn’t a 1:1 clone of whatever app they used to use, but for people who were basically ignored by prior app devs and Reddit, this is a great way to make Reddit less frustrating.

Basic but delightfully usable bridge until Reddit’s replacement arrives

So Reddit decided the best way to save itself was to kill itself. A corporate behavior that seems to be spreading. Surprise is a core part of their strategy, forcing people onto their bloated and flashy excuse for an app. So current alternatives are limited, both in terms of apps and platforms.

But reddit can’t sell visual ads to people with vision difficulties, so making their own app accessible would just waste resources. And they will get sued if they dont. What to do, what to do… ah yes, be friendly with the few apps that don’t monetise and are already accessible!

Enter this app: 1) install Dystopia to maintain a clean lightweight experience with your important Reddit communities, 2) wait for r/redditalternatives to develop and mature (including good apps), 3) migrate over and help those communities to grow then 4) leave reddit alone to think about their choices.

This is good

Simple, light Reddit app that isn't the trash official app. Love this.

could have more features

since apollo is done i will use this now

Voice over support is great

Voice over support works right out of the box. App does exactly what it says it does.

Refugees

We’re all refugees, now – – forced to give up our favorite apps because of Reddit’s greed. But this is a perfectly fine substitute: this app is streamlined, minimal, and most of all GOOD.

Straightforward and accessible Reddit app

What’s not to like about this streamlined and clean interface? The accessibility features are top notch and Dystopia runs beautifully.

10/10 - Many thanks to the creators - so glad this exists!

Great lightweight Reddit client

Dystopia was pushed out of beta to fill the void of Apollo and other third-party apps being killed off by Reddit. Some of the readability is rough, especially on profiles. Definitely an excellent app though. Will be using this instead of the hot garbage official app.

Great alternative to the official app

Obviously the main purpose is accessibility so it won’t have all the bells and whistles of the more polished legacy third party apps. It works for my purposes and anything that gets me away from the awful official Reddit app is a win

Salvation

Seemingly the only alternative to Reddit’s official ad, I mean app… For that alone it is worth 5 stars and more
