Good musicians and great concept

I using EarForge for a while and it’s help me a lot, I can’t stop using it and it’s fun with lessons and training mode! I think it’s great for musicians to develop their pitch with simple notes and octaves with piano, guitar and bass sounds. I hope you updates new feature soon.

Good but clear bugs

It’s a good start and I’m enjoying EarForge but there are several very obvious bugs, such as the replay button in chord training not working properly, and the letter buttons before taking a chord quiz making no sense. Hope the developer goes through and plays with everything before releasing an update.

The start-up is kinda laggy and there’s no way to permanently bypass the welcome bear.

There are obvious ways one would want to extend the features and it’s hard to imagine why the developer wouldn’t just put in a tiny more effort to include them. Why stop at a 4 notes/chords limit? Why not allow for chords in different octaves, or on different instruments?

Bait and switch

I bought EarForge - with no ads - only to have ads added back in and be informed that I must subscribe for my purchase to work. I bought EarForge less than a year ago. I’m all for the move to subscription services, but this is a dishonest way to do so. Edit: actually, this is a violation of App Store guidelines, under 3.1.2(a): “If you are changing your existing app to a subscription-based business model, you should not take away the primary functionality existing users have already paid for. For example, let customers who have already purchased a “full game unlock” continue to access the full game after you introduce a subscription model for new customers.”

Too many ads!

This is my second review. First one was a 5 star cause I love EarForge and recommended it to so many people. However, recently there has been too many ads in between of the quizzes that makes focusing very hard! I understand the company needs to make some money but I’d rather pay for EarForge instead of watching those annoying ads and use EarForge for free! Please fix this or offer a payable version without advertisements!

Good idea, poor implementation

Exercises in EarForge are designed to improve your absolute pitch if you already have one. For rest of the world it’s useless. On day 3 it asks you to replay series of 4 nodes by ear - it’s impossible without previous musical education or being very gifted. On day 6 it asks you to differentiate between 3 octaves - be realistic, it’s not going to happen. EarForge is not based on any research how pitch recognition can be improved. Provided exercises have uneven difficulty progression and pointless to anybody without already decent pitch recognition. Waste of time and money. It has nice and childish user interface - that’s why all these 5 star reviews.

Payment structure changes constantly.

Paid for EarForge originally for no adds. Then even with paid app the developers added back in adds. Now they are looking for a “pro” subscription to give back the features that were originally in the paid app. Very disappointed. Even if they wanted to do a version 2.0 but let me keep the original app I would have been happy and maybe even bought the new app. Other apps have done this for transparency. But this removed features just to change more.

Too many ads!!!!

EarForge is fine it just plays waaay too many ads. It really messes up my ability to concentrate on sounds when an ad with disco music pops up playing louder than the sounds from EarForge itself. Plus sometimes the ads don't give a way to close them and you have to restart EarForge . In first 5 minutes of using EarForge I had 4 ads pop up and had to restart EarForge twice. Very disappointing.

Wonderful concept

Not sure about value for money as I’m still using the free app. But it doesn’t seem too expensive for a year’s worth of musical training.

Great app, one missing feature would be great!

EarForge is great I love being able to practice my ear, but as a pro user I would love to have a casual mode. You can just choose what keys to practice and you can play that mode forever without worrying about losing three stars.

Simple But...

Effective. When I finish all the courses I’ll definitely update this.

The Quiz keys don’t even work

I just tried to play the first quiz and sometime it registers the wrong key, even if the right key is highlighted!! What a frustrating experience. I would not recommend getting Pro as the quality of EarForge is not worth the money at this point.

Great for anyone

It doesn’t waste time in teaching you new things or blocking the minimal things to learn

Great app of ear training

EarForge has a simplest design, lessons and easy to learn. I really enjoy learning this app!

Encrusted with lengthy ads

Be prepared to wait and be bored. You will spend as much time watching distracting videos as you are practicing. Just isn’t useful. Lasted less than 5 minutes on my phone.

I hate this app...

....because it reveals just how bad i am at this. But i like that feeling of defeat. Not in the moment mind you, but it offers a unique opportunity to open a locked door of potential. I’ve practiced daily for about two weeks now, pulling out my hair and screaming in pain and agony, and i haven’t even completed my first test yet. Bottom line: get EarForge if this is something you want to accomplish. Deep down I want to be able to identify notes by hear, and while i despise every second of it now, the rewards will be bountiful and worthwhile. Will update this review soon. 01/29/19

This app has potential!

This is a really good app for people who have perfect pitch to practice developing it. Also, it is good for people who want to develop very good relative pitch. HOWEVER: There is no way to turn off the note names under the piano keys, which I find HUGELY ANNOYING. It’s cheating to have them there. For those of us with perfect pitch, we do not need those note names there. It isn’t necessary. So, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a way for us to turn them off if we don’t want them there. I know it is possible to do that! And, it would be helpful also to those with relative pitch to have the option of turning them off to challenge themselves and test themselves. In a college or music conservatory ear training class, we are NEVER given any note names in melodic dictation. All the class gets is a key signature(which is not necessary for people with perfect pitch). Then, the teacher plays the melody while the students write down what they hear. There is advanced dictation called harmonic dictation and that starts out with just the melody and bass parts played and students write that down. By the end of of the year, students are taking 4 part harmonic dictation in both major and minor keys, and writing the chord progressions in proper Roman numeral, etc form.

Also, please create an option to change to Roman numerals and proper inversion symbols and other advanced chord symbols such as the N6(Neapolitan 6th) chord that classical musicians use for the chord dictation. Music theory majors in classical studies use those. Jazzers and other non-classical musicians use the other type that you have used.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my requests! I hope to see them added! Great start to EarForge! It has a lot of potential! I will give it 5 stars if the things I mentioned are added. Thank you!

Ads every few seconds. Shame on you.

Downloaded during “free” discount. Only to find incredibly ad ridden app. Lame.

Great app concept, but no option for no facebook? lame.

I don’t use facebook anymore, and even deleted my profile at the end of last year. Why is there no alternate option for keeping track of my progress? Not the best decision to make for you users, especially in light of all the data manipulation facebook has done. It makes me inherently suspicious of EarForge developer.

I like what EarForge wants to do, but i might not continue to use it if this is how things are gonna be.

Good app but could be great

Hey guys! This is a great app and helps with ear training a lot! I unfortunately can’t stop myself at one lesson a day lol! Only issue I have is having a playback button on quizzes! My brain may know the notes but can’t always remember the sequence they come in! Sometimes it takes me more than once to hear it! Especially between octaves!

Otherwise it’s a good app! Thanks for creating this!
