Nothing more than some unguided vocal exercises

If you’re looking for some vocal exercises that you can run through in your car or on the go, then this is all this is. This will not help you sing better in anyway. There are no videos or instructions really or feedback that you are doing anything correctly other than “hitting” the individual notes. In fact this could further worsen your singing because it could reinforce bad habits that can be disguised as the only goal is to be on pitch. I had emailed them in the past with ideas but they have not changed or improved Vanido in any way to really make it what it could be. I will not renew my subscription when it runs out. Vanido should cost no more than a few bucks paid once. If you want someone to pay anything more than a few bucks then make an app that’s worth it. I have guitar apps that use much more advanced technology and algorithms that are cheaper and 1000x times better than this. They will reply something along the lines that they have exciting stuff in the works. Just look at their website - it’s empty. Truly quality apps are more well throughout when they are put out or more rapidly developed.

A pretty good app!!!

So I got Vanido because I love to sing but I am not a good singer. So I thought that Vanido was going to help me learn to sing better and it did!! I practiced with Vanido almost every day but when I practiced with my hear buds I could hear my self sing and it seems like Vanido changes your voice when you sing with ear buds. I mean I definitely love Vanido I just sometimes wish there was more stuff to it. I am not sure what the creator could add to Vanido but it just needs more stuff to it! Vanido has helped me with my singing that is for sure!!! I love that Vanido has a different lesson every day for you!!! I think the creator needs to add a lesson where it teaches you to sing strongly!! What I said earlier about I am not sure what the creator needs to add well I guess it turns out I do know what he or she needs to add!! So in conclusion I love Vanido it just needs a little more!!! Creator hope you read this and all the other reviews and that all of are wishes come true!!!

App Just Doesn't Hear Correctly

My biggest problem with Vanido is that Vanido hears its self. I first noticed it when I was doing the training and my voice choked and I stopped singing, when I looked back at my phone I ended up getting 3 stars. So I tried again and didn't even open my mouth and I got 3 starts yet again. I thought it was just my volume being to high which was part of it, but just the same on the lower volume it still picked up on the low volume. I wish that the screen would have a rotation mode where I could put the phone upside down so the volume would flow somewhere else or something to solve this problem. I love the training and I feel like it would help me so much if it actually judged my voice instead of the piano. I gave this review four stars because I can always just use head phones or turn off the volume completely, so there are solutions but I just like singing and hearing myself not just the apps piano.

WAS SOOOOO GOOD- now it’s always crashing?!

I’m so upset! This was go-to app a couple months ago! I used it almost everyday and was noticing a marked improvement in my head voice and overall range. I took a break though because life got busy. Came back to pick it up again and now it’s won’t let me sign in?! Like it’ll take my login details but then when I press the button to verify my login- it brings me back to the start page. And then when I try and sign in through Facebook it says it won’t connect to this app because they haven’t updated their security settings and warn that it’s not safe?? And then I tried to start over and make a new account but when I go through all the set up pages and try and use my email it says it won’t let me because it’s already in use- but it won’t let me sign in with that same email?! SO FRUSTRATING. I’ve uninstalled and re-downloaded it a bagillion times trying to get it work and nothing helps. Honestly the BEST app if it would actually let me use it.

Hasn’t worked in months

It was never the most useful app for practicing singing and there is at least one that is much better. There’s no real feedback other than listening to a recording of your voice. There’s no real way to measure progress. Of course, you must wear headphones if you do want to take advantage of the scant feedback it does give, that should really go without saying, but since so many seem to complain about it, I’ll say it. The sing-along option is a bizarre joke, I think; I’ve never found a use for it. I mainly just used it to clear the frogs out of my throat in the morning and it was certainly enjoyable enough for that. But now it just simply doesn’t load. I have a new iPad Pro so it’s not a matter of updating Vanido . It says Vanido was updated 2 was ago, so I guess Vanido makers haven’t abandoned it. But since it doesn’t load at all, the whole exercise is pointless. The one thing that still works? The stupid daily reminder. Time to dump this one.

New Update Is Terrible

I enjoyed using Vanido several months ago, but the updates have made me want to use Vanido less, and eventually I deleted it. The practice with a song seems pointless and just made me frustrated. The most recent update has piercing and distracting noises even when you’re not doing anything, as if a transformer was about to pop out of your phone. Now they require that you make an account to use Vanido . My attempt to make an account through my email failed and I couldn’t immediately login after creating an account. When I tried using Facebook to create an account, Facebook notified me that this app’s security settings were not compatible with the platform. With new updates and fixes, I’m unsure if I will reinstall Vanido. They’ve done a lot of work to improve the visuals, but it seems like they’ve lost the focus around the basic functionality of Vanido .

Some suggestions

I want to give Vanido 5 stars but I can't for a few reasons
- option to save song recordings
- option to sing instrumental versions of songs
- option to revisit sections of a song we are currently on once we have passed the section. Vanido froze and I hit the button twice and then it accidentally sent me to the next section when I needed a redo. Very frustrating when you spend 10 minutes working on a song and then it gets ruined.

Edit: I want to make another suggestion. How come when you're singing along with the song the snippets cut off at akward parts? Please fix the snippets so they cut off at appropriate parts of the song. A lot of times the last word or two of a phrase gets cut off and isn't included and it either gets lost in an instrumental part or it messes up the beginning of a new snippet. Please fix this because otherwise this feature is basically broken and useless.

Edit#2: now I found a glitch where when I'm trying to listen to my recording it leaves the microphone on and it creates this really terrible cracking sound coming from the phone speaker. Why is the microphone on when I'm just listening and not recording? Silly.

Great! But...

The exercises on Vanido are great. It's tailored to your vocal range so you don't need to worry about hurting your voice. I feel comfortable singing the exercises and not like I'm straining. Pushing yes, but not straining. After using Vanido for only a month or so I have seen a slight increase in my range. Which is wonderful!

The problem I have with Vanido though is that it doesn't teach you how to sing. Sure it can help your pitch and range, but there is no information on what chest voice or head voice even is. There's no guidance on how to best perform the exercises. And there's no feedback. I seem to always get 3 stars no matter how badly I mess up. It would be nice if just by analyzing the waveform of your voice if Vanido could say something like "At C3 your voice was off pitch. Try dropping your jaw and relaxing your vocal chords next time." And then if you wanted you could click a learn more to get extra guidance on how to successfully do what it suggests.

Also it would be really nice if experience actually rewarded you.

TL;DR Great app! I will continue to use it. Some extra information about singing would improve the experience.

My thoughts

If you want to learn to sing this is not Vanido for you. Strictly because it doesn’t explain how to sing or give feedback its just about the notes. But if your like me and you an sing but your pretty bad at notes and pitch then this is Vanido for you. My vocal coach taught friend said she saw a vast improvement in my matching notes and pitches after just two sessions, granted I didn’t just do the sessions then walk away I did every session probably 15 times each until I got 3 stars. Which for some took a while, after three sessions I have spent 1.2 hours on Vanido and I do believe it has paid off. I do wish they had different kinds of exercises instead of just warm up stuff but for me Vanido is all I could ask for.

Good, but not a Replacement Vocal Coach

Overall, I’m really satisfied with Vanido. The interface is nice, and if you use headphones the actual app works correctly. I’ve heard my pitch and agility improve within the past few months, and I was able to classify myself as a mezzo-soprano with the built in vocal range tester.
This is great and all, but it’s not a replacement for a vocal coach. Now obviously to have a virtual-voice trainer downloaded on your phone is a little far fetched, but Vanido markets itself as one. And that’s my problem, it’s not.
Yes, your voice will improve, but Vanido can only take you so far. The way it’s designed is like a vocal warm-up app. I would recommend this app, but don’t expect perfection. Especially since Vanido is free.

Suggestions

Fun app with good live feedback on your pitch on exercises and overlay of your voice with the song. A few suggestions: let the user adjust the levels of their recorded playback and the snippet of the actual song independently, let the user scrub back to replay an earlier recorded section, let the user stop performing the song early if they choose, add a save button to previous recordings. The buttons for the iPhone X could be larger or otherwise more responsive. I'm also having some trouble with my mic disconnecting or coming in and out, and I don't think it's a hardware issue since I can pull up another app and record fine when I encounter the issue mid performance. More song choice would also be welcome.

Suggestions

I love Vanido. I think it has really improved my voice. My only suggestions are two things. First, maybe bring in some vocal coaches to give feedback after a practice session. You can program to give a certain type of feedback based on what a person scored on a certain exercise or something like that. Secondly, don’t lock exercises. Maybe make it to where people unlock an exercise after reaching a certain level. I know the exercises that work best for me but I can’t do them if Vanido locks them. Whatever you do Vanido is amazing. I will recommend it whenever I can.

Couldn’t Get In (edit: i’m stupid)

I couldn’t get in. I could go onto Vanido , perform the task given to find my vocal range by singing “ah” as high and low as I can. Then it asks me to sign up, i choose to use my email to sign up. Then, it brings me back to beginning. I check my mailbox and I have no request to confirm my email. So, I press the login button on Vanido to try to log into my account. I put in the correct info and it just brings me back to finding my vocal range and the cycle keeps continuing. I tried deleting and reinstalling, restarting my phone, nothing.

Edit: It was just me being stupid. I used gmail so I had to press the google sign in rather than email sign in. I always assume the google sign in means Google+ (which i don’t have)

UPDATED: They fixed it!

As of Jan 2020, the pitch detection is FIXED and this app is back to being awesome! Thanks dev team!

My original review:
1 star “Nov update broke Vanido ! Please fix it!”

I used to LOVE Vanido. I used it every day for months, and it really did make a big improvement in my vocal range and agility. UNTIL.... The update in November 2019, when a new bug was introduced causing the **note tracking to be a half step off***. It’s extremely consistent. It just always interprets your singing as being a half step lower than it actually is, thus making it impossible to complete an exercise, and making the entire app totally useless. It’s such a shame because it’s such a simple bug and IF ANYONE ON THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM WAS PAYING ATTENTION to the user activity, the complaints, or the reviews, they could easily fix it!! Wake up, y’all! You have paying customers. Fix your app.

I’ll happily change my review to 5 stars if the bug gets fixed!

5 out of 5

Functionality is the best. I've been using Vanido. For a year now and I've physically seen immense improvements in my voice. I can hit notes in songs like "perfect" and thank you next" and Demi Lovato's songs that I could not hit before. It works. Do the three practices every day, it alerts you with a reminder daily, has a tracking progression. But make sure to use headphones so it doesn't record the sound off Vanido !
Also, the added bonus is it's so colorful lol👌👌
