Too Predictable

Ive enjoyed Chet and it is definitely helpful and easy to use. However, i ran into a rather disappointing bug in the game. In the “intervals” games there are typically 2 options (minor, major). I’ve noticed that the answers are a predictable pattern in which the answer just alternates between major and minor every turn. If the answer to question 1 is major then 2 will be minor, 3 is major, 4 is minor and so on. It can be possible to ignore this fact but sometimes it’s just too obvious and takes away from the challenge and learning process of the game. I can imagine this should be able to be fixed.

It’s okay

I’m a professional piano teacher and I can say that I’ll keep Chet around in case I ever need to give a student something to do in a lesson while I fill out their assignment sheet or something. Chet basically has one activity: you listen to a short melody and you play it back on the virtual piano. Although there are many other facets of ear training I think they have done a good job with the functionality of Chet and by scaling the difficulty.

Piano teacher recommends, but fix melodic minor please!

I’m a classically trained piano teacher, I love using Chet to improve my own ear and I plan to recommend it to students. I especially appreciate the algorithm which picks up on your weaker points, and gives you opportunities for dialed-in practice where it can tell you’re struggling with a specific concept.

Would give five stars if not for an error in how Chet handles melodic minor scales. It plays the descending scale identically to the ascending and it expects you to do the same. ...The correct way to play a descending melodic minor scale is to flatten the 6th and 7th so you’re just playing a natural minor, but Chet will ding your score if you actually play it properly - it wants to train you to play the sharp 6 and 7 on the way down as well as up, which is incorrect!

Devs, please let me know if you see this and fix the issue in your otherwise incredible/fun/useful app, and I will add the 5th star posthaste :)

Amazing Resource for Musicians

Chet is wonderful. I don't normally leave ratings, let alone reviews. I'm a jazz pianist about to begin my bachelor's degree in performance, and since I began playing jazz, I've wanted to have really great ears, so I can understand everything on recordings and be more involved when playing with other musicians. I downloaded Chet a little over a year ago, and it's been an immensely helpful supplement in my development. I've been trying to get all three stars and be one of the top users on the leader board on as many of the challenges as possible, and trying to do that has really forced me to build new ways to think about music in my mind. It absolutely blows my mind that I didn't have to pay for Chet.

Quality training to pickup notes by ear

Chet takes you through all the challenges to practice as often as you’d like to improve your ability to notice the change of notes and the tone & pitch of notes. Ya I’d recommend any musician to atleast try it out

Great app

Ive used a LOT of ear training apps (both paid and free) and this one is really a standout. Simple to use and really effective and fun to practice with. Well thought out and the actual musical examples set it apart from others. Should be getting a lot more reviews and love than it has. It's really, really good.

Best Ear Training App

This is by far the best ear training app that I’ve used. I’ve tried many and none come close to this one. It gives you many practical uses. The exercises are fun to do. Also it does a great job keeping track of your progress. If you’re looking to train your ears then Chet is what you’re looking for

The best ear training method out there.

I gotta say, this is an incredible app. I’m surprised there aren’t that many users, but it’s super stable, and I’m enjoying it so much. I have already achieved all the stars in the beginner section and I’m now half-way done with the chords section.

I use Chet every morning and every evening, on my commute to work and I have definitely noticed my ears getting so much better.

And THANK YOU for no ads. I hope it stays this way.

I would love it if there was a plain piano feature. I have a separate piano app, but I would definitely get rid of it if a piano section with no objectives would be included.

I will definitely share Chet with my musical friends.

The best app for Any Musician!

I am a self taught musician, and I truly appreciate that this amazing tool is free for anyone to use! I have only used it for a few hours and I have already improved so much in my ear training for scales and much more. This is a musician must have for any level!

Thank you so much for making Chet free again, i really appreciate it :)

Read If installing!!!

At first, I reeealy wanted to learn piano, but all the apps about it were making me watch ads or, to continue, buy a pass! Its was so annoying, I was even trying duolingo music! But when I found this app, I loved it better than simply piano!(I did not buy a membership to it) So, developer, if you are reading, YOU DID GREAT!!!

Awesome Ear Training App

I’ve been using this app for the last year and it has significantly improved the way I hear music. I love that it puts ear training in a real music context and also has all the normal ear training exercises you find in applications, like MacGamut. But the progressive learning path and spaced repetition really gives you a methodical way to train while reinforcing what you’ve learned. 5 stars.

I don’t usually make reviews but…

Holy crap Chet is amazing! It’s so fleshed out, have a really good aesthetic, is training my ear so fast and is like the only app that uses ACTUAL music for training. I want to suggest this to any musician.

At this point I wish I could somehow support this because Chet is better than any paid music app I’ve ever had…and it’s free?

My new one-stop shop for ear training!

I teach private music lessons to a diverse client base, and this is going to be my new #1 ear training app recommendation. I just love how it breaks down different options and makes targeted drills easy to find for each learner. I’m sure I will be able to help many different people solve their ear training problems to advance toward their goals with this awesome app. And it works elegantly and looks great. Don’t change a thing!

Powerful Tools

This is by far the most innovative and effective application for ear training I found thus far. Context is critical for developing the ear for practical purposes in music. Instead of isolated intervals this application uses familiar popular melodies with full accompaniment. This keeps you engaged and makes learning fun. There are also a variety of modes to allow users to tailor their own learning to strengthen different skills.

Please remove inappropriate lyrics

Dear this app Team,

I absolutely LOVE your APP and will happily give it a 5 Star rating when please please please you take care of this one oversight? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Some of the song lyrics for matching melodies are inappropriate for children. Themes about drinking, partying, and promiscuity will not be appreciated by most parents of the potentially millions of young piano students who will benefit greatly from your brilliant work on this app.

I beg of you to please replace those songs or alter the lyrics to be more appropriate for young children.🙏🏻 I’m hoping this will be done quickly please as I have already started using the Intervals training with my students!
(I made this discovery after having my entire studio install it.)

THANK YOU!!!!🙏🏻🎹💞

Music Teacher Approved

As someone who has been teaching music for almost 20 years, I’m always on the hunt for good ear-training apps to use with my students (and for my own development). This is the best one I’ve found by a long shot. I’m really impressed with the amount of thought and effort that went into making Chet. I can’t remember if or what they charge, but Chet is Well worth whatever the cost.

Attention Teachers: This is the One

I use this literally EVERY lesson for my piano and guitar students. I do about 5 minutes per lesson which is close to 40 minutes totally per day. The amount of exercises is mind blowing.

My kids love Major or Minor and the beginning ear training playing notes of songs. But there’s plenty of other great chord drills, scale tests, interval training, etc. I haven’t even checked everything out yet.

Do not hesitate to download this and try this out if you’re a music teacher

Very nice

Chet does a good job presenting standard ear training like intervals, chords, etc. But what I really like most is that this is one of the only apps I know of that has so many melodic exercises using actual examples from songs and pieces, not just randomly generated patterns from various scales. This really helps the ear learn sounds and patterns in typical contexts and has helped me a lot with my transcribing even unrelated tunes. I particularly like all of the Bach and the Charlie Parker tunes. Something like this would be a great way to learn jazz (esp. bebop) licks and internalize bebop language. I hope more of these can continue to be added.

Amazing!!! Best ear trainer ever 👏🏽

Ive used so many ear training apps over the 10 years of my musical journey, and this is by far the most interesting, and fun experience ever!! The fact that you figure out REAL MELODIES and a ton of amazing and useful musical concepts on a guitars fingerboard transforms what was previously thought of as ear training, into something thats actually applicable right off the bat. Thank you devs! I am looking forward to the apps expansion, and could only hope that one day you can create a community on that platform so we can make our own challenges with your ui. But even if you dont, this reigns supreme!

Terrific educational music app for any level

The fact that this is free astounds me. There is so much content to get you to an advanced level. I’d pay if there was a donation option, because Chet is amazing. it has brought me to a ear training level i couldn’t do before
