Backups Have a “Quota” your work will be gone and you can’t do a thing about it.

Their “backups” when saving your work, have a pretty small “quota”. I was going to the end of my third chapter with around 3900 words and suddenly when I went to another chapter change an issue before coming back.....700 of those words I’d just written were gone. Just gone. When I went to the main backup page I noticed a little red bar off to the left that said “Quota”. That’s all.
Apparently, you have to remember to delete old backups or else no new backups will work. No warning system. Nothing telling you “ hey, you are close to your quota of backups, better start deleting some!”. Nope. Nothing.

I can’t believe a writing app has this much of a glaring issue. It was pretty devastating to lose an ending to a chapter that i can never get back and have to start over again. Writing isn’t something you just “remember”. When it flows and the muse is hitting? You can’t lose a bunch of it and go “ oh it’s ok, i’’ll just go rewind on my brain and recover it”. Never using MyStorytoday again. Do yourself a favor and find an app that has the best interests of a writer in mind. This one certainly does NOT.

Could Be Great

Hey guys! I really hope the developers read this- if you do, plz reply! Anyways, this could be an awesome app, honestly, if it weren’t for the messy setup. I find it claustrophobic and messy. When I first go in I suppose it’s fine? A little unwelcoming but I don’t really mind. Then when I tried to create a chapter, it wouldn’t let me type a title. I didn’t really have one in mind anyway, so I let it slide, you know? Then I went to type the actual story and it wouldn’t even let me type, not to mention everything crowding around the typing space so I could hardly see.
I feel like this has a lot of potential, but it’s been a little messily designed. Anyway, I’ll give it another go in a couple weeks and I’ll update if my experience turned out better.
Thanks so much for reading and please have an awesome day!!

Great to start off, but lacking in flexibility

MyStorytoday is great so far after using it for around a month to finally collect my thoughts, but I feel like it's a bit rigid for one type of thinking or concept, MyStorytoday is very vanilla.

A few suggestions would be to add more tabs other than [places] and [people] to help organize thoughts. Either add more tables like [entitites] [arcs] [magic] [technology] [govornments] [act1/2/3] etc... Or just an generic [add tab] next to people and places so users can simply create their own to organize their thoughts better.

Another idea would be allowing users to post imagery in the tabs to help users with the character or locale dossiers (for the more visual thinkers).

Really good but...

MyStorytoday is really useful and easy to use. I love it and definitely prefer it over all the other writing apps. However, I’ve had problems with it not saving my stories after not visiting for a while. I’m also not sure whether this is a problem with MyStorytoday or my phone but MyStorytoday won’t save my password. It will show up as something completely different. I’m certain this isn’t a problem because of me (at least because I don’t remember) as this has happened multiple times and I have checked it after inputting a new password. They aren’t even close to the same length. All in all, a really good app, but I suggest you keep a backup document just in case.

Navigation Issues

Ok so I am the first to admit that I am not great with all things technical. However, I have been trying to locate a tutorial or some guidelines on using MyStorytoday to no avail. I love the existence of this application, and the concept is not rocket science, but as soon as I finished the introduction to my book, it closed, and now I am unable to add chapters. I can edit the introduction, but MyStorytoday has
deemed the book finalized, and now I can't go back to write the rest of my story! The only option the application offers is to delete the entire “book” and start over from scratch. I have to admit that I can't specifically blame MyStorytoday for this, but a tutorial or support portal would be nice.

Great App… Minor Fixes

Let me say: I don’t even have premium and I love it. (Although it’s probably better with premium) It’s very organized, which I like because I can have all my characters and places to refer to. I love that I can put all ideas down before writing. However, I do have a few suggestions. First, I could personally do without the scenes in the chapters. They’re just a little too much to handle. Second, I wish the bar with the bold and spell check and stuff wasn’t so big. I can only see a little bit of my writing at a time. And third, I wish spell check was automatic and you didn’t have to go all the way to the bar to spell check. Overall, good app, just needs to fix some things.

I love it but.. hurts my eyes

Severely light sensitive eyes; optic druses and photophobia. I wish there could be a dark mode setting, but I’ve yet to find one. Please correct me if I’m wrong and if it is just hidden well.

The U.I. is fantastic, the cork board is quite helpful, the overall flow of MyStorytoday is very intuitive. I really enjoy it, I just can’t use it often. I have never been much for writing as I lacked the ability to organize my thoughts, but this gave me a platform to do exactly that in a simple and elegant way. It has sparked a newfound love for writing I haven’t felt in some ~15 years. So thank you for that.

I only hope a dark mode setting and even some accessible options regarding contrast or color blindness would be a rather easy implementation and added improvement. I’m not colorblind but the blueish green of the title bars is a rather harsh color for my eyes, I am sorry. And with the blank white of the typing sections, I cannot use MyStorytoday frequently or for long durations. My settings are always at the lowest brightness, but it still hurts.

Thank you, however, for helping me find writing enjoyable and sparking my imagination for story ideas.

Great so far!

November 27, 2020

I got MyStorytoday yesterday, and I’m loving it!! I also use Inkitt( I recommend it) and it’s working out. A lot of people might think,”she’s only 11. What does she know about writing in apps?”. I would reply,” I know A LOT because I am always looking for good apps to help me write books”, and since I haven’t had MyStorytoday for to long, I will add to my review once in a while to give updates.
And, If people say,” your WAY to young to be writing novels. Picture books are more your speed”, I would say,” I am to old enough! I love writing and being an author is my dream. I am an artist, but writing long books makes me happy. Maybe I’ll write a book as good as JK Rowling one day!”.
Thank you for being such a great app so far! I give this first review, 5 stars!!!!

Love the app but not the problem..

I absolutely love MyStorytoday but it’s giving me fits lately. I’ll be logged in and it will work fine while I’m using it, but after I close it for a while and get back on it again, it won’t load my stuff. I’ve logged out and tried logging back in. It’s worked once but I ended up having the delete it the next time it happened. After reinstalling, I logged in and it worked fine again, until I closed it and got back on it later.. That time, again, wouldn’t load my stuff so I logged out to try again like before, but it wouldn’t let me log back in. On the login screen I entered my email address but it took me to the create account screen even though I already have an account with that email address. Please fix this, I really love MyStorytoday and I really don’t want to lose my progress!
Btw, I have an iPhone X with the latest version of iOS if you need to know that...

Ahhh

MyStorytoday was exactly what I’m looking for! It saves all your work, it save every time you take like a pause in writing! What I really like is that for people who can’t sign into things and like put their email (me) you can use MyStorytoday as a guest and just start your book or whatever your writing. Warning, when you read the thing that says when you log out it doesn’t save and deletes your data, it’s talking about when you delete MyStorytoday . I was like, uhm…whattt??? I thought that when you exited MyStorytoday completely it wouldn’t save but it does. It just means if you delete MyStorytoday it doesn’t save because youu don’t have an account. MyStorytoday is amazing and I love it very much, I’m already started a book and I’m excited to continue it! 10/10. Beautifully done.

Love it but room for improvement

I love it! Definitely the best writing app I’ve come across so far. The organizational system is so helpful! It even includes the option to view your work as a story board. The only things it’s missing are 1. Better compatibility with the iPad keyboard cases. As of right now the up/down and left/right arrows do not work in MyStorytoday removing one of the easiest ways to edit on the ipad. 2. A formate where you can view all the chapters and scenes together as if you were viewing/writing them in a word Document or any document that lets you read and write page by page and 3. A more customisable section where you can add, store, and organize characters. It would be nice if you can add your own custom panels to the characters section and write in them like you can with the chapter scenes. At the moment there are only 2: “short summary” and “main description.” For example, making a new panel/scene and naming it “relationships” or “character flaws” then writing more detail in that section. 4. The ability to copy/duplicate scenes and chapters in case you like the formate of the panels of one and want to use the same set up again or just want to keep a copy of an older version your rewriting. 5. The ability to add pictures. Still, I think this is the best writing app I’ve used since the days of A Novel Idea.

I love this app but recent glitch

I love MyStorytoday, it’s very helpful for me in terms of creating a writing goal and keeping my stories organized. The only problem I’m facing is that my chapter menu options are glitching. The icon isn’t popping up for some reason so I’m stuck on any given chapter I was looking at unless I use the pinboard. There’s also a glitch where my screen will go blank and then pop back up, it could be MyStorytoday saving my progress but sometimes it’ll do it even when I haven’t typed something and I’m just scrolling to re read what I wrote. Despite those recent issues I still love MyStorytoday and I will continue to use it along with the web browser.

Amazing! Just a little confused about the printing.

I write quite a bit, and this is my go to app. I am working on a musical, a couple of stories, and a play and this works amazingly for all of it. The new update that lets you insert characters is so helpful when writing scripts, typing out the same name over and over is exhausting and this gets around it. I can't believe it's free and I'm greatly considering going premium just to support the developers. The new update is so much better and improves a lot of the bad things about MyStorytoday . So far my one of my only complaints is (and maybe this is just my printer) when I print out something I've written, it leaves about 4 inches of blank space at the bottom, and no space on the top. Maybe this could be changed? It makes the pages look very odd. I also wish I didn't have to be on WiFi to use it. I understand that's how it backs up, but having an offline mode would be very helpful while traveling.
Other than that, it's such an amazing app and I've recommended it to all my writing friends!

Amazing for Writers!

As someone who loves to write stories, MyStorytoday makes my life so much easier! For starters, it has lots of tools to use to make your story even better! For example, you can use the italics tool to make your story look even better! MyStorytoday also allows you to use a storyboard so you know what you’re writing! I usually enjoy writing short horror stories, but MyStorytoday is great to use to write ANY type! MyStorytoday even shows beginners what to do! I love how they update frequently, and make sure MyStorytoday is working well. I suggest MyStorytoday to anyone of any age who has interests in writing. In short, it’s an easy-to-use app for anyone! Keep up the great work, devs!

Great for a free app - until it deletes your book

UPDATE: First off, it states that your account will be deleted after a few months of inactivity. That's fair, except they are vague one how long that is. It's not a few months, it's ONE month. And while you can export your main story content...you lose ALL of the support content such as characters, locations, etc. Having used Scrivener on a laptop I come to my writing software with the standard of excellence which Scrivener provides. MyStorytoday has many similar benefits, but could use some improvements. It has a place for both characters and location - a handy tool when trying to keep things separate. I also love the chapter feature, as it makes editing things so much easier!
Features that are in need of improvement:
Aside from characters and locations there is no other way to separate out story information. So if you want your outline, synopsis, and miscellaneous information separated from one another you must file them under characters, locations, or general story information. Not a crisis, but an inconvenience when trying to quickly browse your files.

I have a suggestion

everything is great, and i love the way it’s formatted! I do have a suggestion, though-the ability to import photos.

this will help the user experience tremendously by having picture references, but also staying organized in one app. a sketch of a character could be imported into MyStorytoday to use as a reference that’s quick and easy to pull up and use.

if there’s rankings in the story, like fighting levels, there could be an option to add it like a food pyramid. in the story i want to write, there are different ranks and it would be very helpful if we could keep it in one app, as many people need to be organized.

Perfect!

This is a great app. I love the chapter and character organization. My only complaint is that I wish I didn’t have to scroll all the way up to italicize my words. But other than that, thank you for MyStorytoday, I recommend it for authors, even kid authors like me, to use for ideas. Of course, if you really want to get a book published, contact an editor and use things like word documents. That’s what I use, anyways. I did manage to make a book called, “The Star Rider,” about a girl who goes to summer camp, meets a horse, and realizes that she and the horse have a bigger connection than what she realizes, and that she and her horse have magic and that their world is being threatened. She and her friends, Alex and River, set out to save their friends, Katie and Luna, and destroy an evil, extraterrestrial monster that has lived underneath their world in a separate dimension since the beginning of time. Guess where I made this book? On MyStorytoday! I transferred it to Word for the revision process, and I’m currently on chapter 7 out of 18 chapters. After that I will print it out and contact my agent and my editor most likely. On that note, please be on the lookout for that book especially if you like horses and a bit of magic! Thank you for MyStorytoday, again, it is my #1 idea source for books/book series’s.

Organizing writing clearly

Mystory has been what my heart has been calling for in the longest time. Being a novice writer, It is important to organize ourself so that we are not scattered amongst thoughts pushing toward another closet paper stuck getting dust in a box somewhere. Suffering from tangled thoughts, how can our story breath?

A good writer is faced with issues when building a story. Having a lot of thoughts, chapters, sections, so om a new idea comes and there is a chance for a messy arrangement. Giving a good layout, is for sure the best idea anybody could think of and can shift oneself to a good understanding of what you can put on the workings. It is surely better than watching each paragraph, words, letters as a mountain of floating debris.

Mystory gives us a higher point of view when writing. It gives us the know-how of learning the language of ourselves. Making good use of our time, we can concentrate better on our writing. It has clear fundamentals on storytelling, this is when we can write to our needs overcoming distractions. We can keep up on our writing!

Thank you Mystory.

PERFECT APP

This is a great app for writers, it has a whole lot of features, this has been my favorite writing app for four years, I’m currently at 26 books. There’s nothing wrong with MyStorytoday , but I have a few update suggestions. 1.) It would be wonderful to have collapsible folders for if you make a whole series. It will make your library much cleaner and organized. 2.) It would be nice to have a personal dictionary instead of writing out self-created words, and then having to ignore them in the auto correct up unless you turn it over to a Word document for final edits.
Thank you for reading,
Ginger Wolf 💜

Almost perfect.

I’m currently writing a book using MyStorytoday. And it is doing a amazing job of keeping tack of all my information. Being able to jump over to character summaries and back to writing chapters is nice. The chapters are organized, and when I email myself the manuscript to back it up and edit my latest chapter, everything is organized and laid out almost like a book. It is so much easier to write a book on MyStorytoday lounging around having it auto fill words, auto correct words. All this while not having to maintain a composed posture behind a keyboard. I have a full time job, and am a full time dad. And yet I’ve been able to write over 18,000 words in the last 10 days!
I do have 2 complaints. The first one, I have seen other bring this up too. Having to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to turn on/off italics or change font or whatever when you’re 2000 words deep into a chapter is a huge time waster. So I’ve taken to just writing plainly and then editing after I send the chapter to my computer.
The other complaint is that if MyStorytoday crashes, or even just has a hiccup, I loose everything I was just writing in that chapter. I try to save things periodically. But when the creative juices are flowing eh? A couple times this has happened and I can’t remember exactly what i wrote. This is how you make people go crazy.
And that’s it. A solid app. Needs very little change to be the best.
