Unusable

I first downloaded MovementAthlete back in December of last year. At that point it was really glitchy: MovementAthlete would do things like freeze up, not let me go back to the previous step, and unexpectedly quit on me. So I asked for a refund, and resolved to wait until a new version was available. Nine months later there is a new version out, and nothing much seems to have changed. I got midway through my first workout, with most of the same problems. Then MovementAthlete froze and eventually booted me out. When I reopened MovementAthlete , all of the work from the first half of my workout was gone. It shouldn’t be this difficult to get this right, guys…

Buggy as hell, and incomplete.

I want to like MovementAthlete. I think its intentions are good. But it needs SERIOUS WORK in order to function properly, much less compete against other workout apps. There are entire moves that have no description or video on how to perform them. If I didn't have a basic gymnastics background from CrossFit (I was/am hoping MovementAthlete could supplement that training), I would be utterly lost on some of the moves. As it is, from time to time I just have to make my best guess.

MovementAthlete needs:
*To have its bugs squashed (it crashes regularly)
*To have its database updated (no data or instructions for moves it asks you to perform)
*To be able to move BACKWARDS in a workout (if you accidentally mark a move as being done, you can’t go back and correct or look at it, and at times I’ve had to restart entire workouts and almost just quit in frustration).

I think that if these issues can be corrected, this could be a really good app. Without some much needed TLC, though, I will be cancelling my 60 day trial and getting my money back.

Needs Some Work

Honestly, MovementAthlete is an amazing idea and I would stick to it 100% if it worked well for me. Unfortunately it is glitchy. Firstly, the video would freeze when I tried to watch a tutorial for one of the exercises, which I didn’t mind because it wasn’t a big deal — most of the other tutorial videos worked.

THEN, I tried to start a workout, and I got to the first strength exercise. After the timer finished counting for the first set, MovementAthlete froze on DONE. It didn’t count the rest time and didn’t let me move on to the next set or the next exercise, which was frustrating. The only option I had was to exit the workout and save progress or discard it. I can’t progress if MovementAthlete doesn’t work properly in completing exercises. I just did the workout on my own without pressing start workout.

I don’t know if it is because I have an iPhone 6s and not a later version, but I REALLY hope you guys can fix this and get the success you deserve from it. I really thought MovementAthlete was the one for me and I was very hyped for it, but it just doesn’t work.

Not my style, free trial didn’t work

Forced me into buying a subscription and the free 7 day trial didn’t work. After seeing the workout structure I don’t really want to continue with it because I can already see the volume is too high and the rest between sets is suboptimal. I also much prefer full body workouts as opposed to just training a specific body part or skill every day and there doesn’t seem to be a way to change that.

This was supposed to be “MovementAthlete to get” for calisthenics but tbh it looks like a lot of unnecessary junk volume with low rest to make you feel like you’re working hard. Seriously, you can progress using about half as many reps and sets with more rest. Hopefully they refund me for the $35 I got charged but if not then whatever.

Great workouts but glitchy

Love the workouts and the progressions. If you can’t do a certain amount of reps just do a couple less and if it’s too easy then do a couple more. Starting the workout through MovementAthlete is glitchy though so I recommend just looking it over while you workout, then start the workout afterwards so you can click through the questions without it glitching. I’m a lifetime subscriber so I really hope you guys make improvements. Also would be nice to go back and look at the workouts that we complete.

Fantastic calisthenics app!

I’ve been using movement athlete for a bit over a year now. I keep coming back to it. It’s dynamic workouts keep me interested and pushing myself. I would have given it 5 stars but I think they are working on it.. their on demand workouts are a little lacking.. but the generated workouts are great!

One last thing is their time estimates could use a little work or the ability to learn.. a 40 minute workout takes me about 55 minutes including breaks which are timed but once you have that down it’s just second nature

Comprehensive and Engaging

I was searching for an app to help me stay focused on bodyweight exercises that could improve my mobility and functional strength, ideally reduce my risk of injury in other forms of exercising I do (trail running largely), but work with my uneven schedule (and motivation) - I think this is MovementAthlete for me.

I’ve been pleased with how thorough MovementAthlete is, how engaged I’ve been, the diversity of ways to build on my progress (stretching, one-off focused or continuing the program they’ve laid out) and ability to get up to speed on the workouts I’m not familiar with.

If that resonates with you I’d encourage you to give it a try. I’ve also been impressed with their customer service when I hit a hurdle or had a question about the program. Hoping to keep this going for months (or even years) to come.

What an amazing app!

I have to admit that I don’t use MovementAthlete as often as I should ;) but it is soooo good. I love the progression and how the AI seems to know EXACTLY when to unlock the next progression. Even on the days I’m sure I’m not ready I just do it anyhow and Wouldn’t you know it - that AI knows me better than I do. 🤓

The folks that made MovementAthlete are amazing too. Great customer service. They are quick to respond to my questions via in app chat too.

Sooo stoked!

Like having a personal trainer

I have had MovementAthlete for about a week now and I am extremely impressed with how well it customizes workouts to my current skill level. I’m always able to give feedback to MovementAthlete that either increases difficulty of movements or decreases them as needed. This would definitely be my top recommendation for a calisthenics type workout app.

Literally a perfect app

I’m a complete beginner to calisthenics, and so far I am LOVING MovementAthlete! Super easy to use and very good at giving me workouts that are not too easy, but not too difficult either. Love the adaptive training. I’m seeing myself get stronger every day! Most importantly, it’s just super fun to use. I love seeing my progress go up on different moves. I’m definitely going to use MovementAthlete for a long time. Well worth the membership.

So far so great!

This is probably the first I have ever come to review an app without being asked to.

So far I am loving MovementAthlete! It’s a real workout but something about it is so fun that I actually wake up excited at 5am to see what’s in store for the day, and that’s BEFORE caffeine.

Frankly, that alone is enough for me to rate it 5 stars. I really want to be strong and flexible and master my body so I’m not falling all the time and in little to no pain when I’m older. But regular strength training, while fun at times, wasn’t fun enough for me to stay consistent. This is.

But besides that, I love the flexibility of MovementAthlete . If I wake up at 4:45, I can add time to the workout. If I want a longer workout, it’s a couple of clicks away! It’s also customized to my skill level so each workout is challenging but never makes me worried that I’m injuring myself.

I definitely recommend at least giving it a try (that means a few workouts, not just downloading MovementAthlete and forgetting about it like I did at first). It’s great!

Better than I expected

I bought the lifetime membership with high hopes but knowing I could use the 3 month money back guarantee if I didn’t like it. Turns out I enjoy it way more than I anticipated. I look forward to my workout more than ever and I am learning new movements on a weekly basis. I agree with one reviewer about the timers for warm ups skill work and cool downs. It would be nice if the strength work timers had noise, but small details in comparison to the vast value of this program. Buy the lifetime membership, if you don’t like it you have lost nothing!

Love this app

I’m 12 and I’m pretty active. I play hockey, lacrosse, cross country running. During quarantine I’ve been have a lot of trouble staying strong as my family doesn’t have any gym equipment . I bought MovementAthlete and I LOVE it. I’ve been doing it everyday along with going for runs and I have gotten so much stronger and well as learned some cool things such as a handstand. I’m also seeing a six pack start to form! I love MovementAthlete because I can choose how long the workout is, depending on what I have time for. The think thing I would add is a button that says “can’t do that” or “not strong enough yet”.

Amazing body weight workout and skill training

I’ve been for most of my life. Started lifting and running in my late teens and am 47 now. Always admired the calisthenics movements. Handstands, bar work, rings, etc. Being at home, without the gym made me rethink my training. Find new and interesting workouts. Found the Bodyweight sub on Reddit and then MovementAthlete and site. Amazing. Learning the skills involved in those movements, finding weaknesses where I didn’t know I had muscles. Also increasing balance, stability, stamina and flexibility. I feel like I’m getting better workouts than I have in years. And I’m enjoying it.

52 Year Old - going strong

I’ve been active my entire life. I’ve lifted weights but after extended periods I would be sidelined due to severe joint pain. I ran consistently for 14 years but sadly had to stop because of arch issues. The Movement Athlete seemed to good to be true but it has delivered on its promises. My knee and elbow joints are healthier than they have ever been. My arch problems are slowly improving—-the older you get the slower your body recovers. What used to take days now takes months. The Movement Athlete has allowed me to be consistent in my workouts but be challenged. I’m seeing gains that I never thought possible, especially at 52 years of age. I recommend it to anyone.

Changing the way we see fitness!

When I started working out, I was doing solely weight lifting and running. Then, I discovered calisthenics, and it immensely changed the way I approached working out and general fitness! However, I didn't really know where to start or where to go with my training—until I discovered TMA!
MovementAthlete , especially with the newest feature of customizing your workouts to focus on any muscle group, skill move or mobility technique, is everything you need!
There are, unfortunately, occasional bugs within MovementAthlete , but I still give it a 5-star review because the TMA team, small as it is, is extremely responsive and reacts quickly to fix any bug that is reported.

Gamechanger!

MovementAthlete motivates me to workout every morning by turning calisthenics into a game where you can level up and unlock new skills. It creates a training plan tailored to your fitness level and goals, then guides you through interactive workouts that adjust based on your feedback. After using it for 2-3 weeks, someone even commented on how lean and muscular I looked.

The only downside is I often get sore and stiff and don't see much flexibility or mobility work like yoga, but I haven't explored all the videos yet.

I highly recommend MovementAthlete for anyone who’s interested in calisthenics but doesn’t know where to start, feels overwhelmed, or needs motivation.

Amazing app

I was skeptical at first because I’ve tried most calisthenics apps with mixed results. Some are OK but none really lets you progress as you should. This one is completely different and a true calisthenics app. First you take a comprehensive assessment to determine at what level you are for a variety of exercises and moves, and then it tailors a routine for you. But that’s just the beginning. The routines monitor your progress and you start progressing to more complex moves in a steady fashion. You can adjust the length of the workout and some other variables (like using bands) to tailor it to your needs. And there’s a lot more. I’m very happy with MovementAthlete and the movement concept. I feel for the first time I’m doing true calisthenics. I wish I could give it 10 stars.

Life Changing

I have never been able to stick to any exercise that involved machines or schedules or large chunks of time and planning. I have always been one who moves when the moment strikes and because it feels right, but I could never quite figure out how to be consistent at that because it’s easy to put off or inspiration never comes. But this is exactly precisely that option. I am a homeschooling mother of five so when the opportunity presents itself, I open MovementAthlete , start the workout and I can unload the dishwasher or meet the needs of my kids between sets. I don’t have to change my clothes, I don’t have to go anywhere, I’m just moving in my house and in my life. I am getting so much stronger! I love seeing the progress from where I started to where I am. And I love the movement manifesto!!

Tried multiple calisthenics apps, this the best

I’ve been using MovementAthlete for over a month and have seen great progress. The feedback after each set really pushes your limits on each exercise. I’ve already seen good progress in my different skills. It also keeps each workout fresh and fun. No complaints.
