Deliberate fail

There is really no reason LockAlert should not work flawlessly, but it fails in the most basic way. I set up my account on the Equifax website and froze my credit. Then I downloaded LockAlert so I could unfreeze on the go. LockAlert does not recognize my user name and password that I set up 10 minutes ago. And three incorrect attempts lock me out of my account. I’m sure the developer will respond to this with “hey buddy, give us a call so we can fix this.” Why should I devote my time to fixing your screwed up app? Look at every review for the last year. They all say this problem is persistent. Clearly Equifax doesn’t want people freezing their credit or having any control over their information because it messes with their business model. They should have been put out of business when they allowed the sensitive personal credit information of half the country(!) to be hacked. So forget LockAlert. I’m leaving my credit frozen and if any company uses Equifax I simply won’t give them my business until they switch credit information suppliers.

Update: of course Equifax has separate login credentials for its app and website, that’s the most needlessly complicated possible approach so that’s naturally what Equifax went with. Why in the world would you want your Equifax account time be universally accepted across all platforms? Ease of use? Convenience?

Cannot unlock after locking

User beware. I locked my credit with all three bureaus to help secure myself for identity and credit theft. Now that I want to apply for a new credit card I’m trying to unlock and cannot do so. I called support and the person was less than helpful. Initially he didn’t understand my request and sent me a password reset link. I can log in and don’t need to reset. Then he tells me he’s escalating to the backend team. I asked for an estimated time to resolution and he didn’t know. I asked are we talking hours, days or weeks and he didn’t know what I should expect. Having the ability to lock my account is great. It’s not great that I cannot unlock and cannot apply for credit when I want/need to do so.

Unusable

Equifax is a complete disaster, both on their website and iOS app. I’ve been trying for weeks to freeze my credit, and the experience has been beyond frustrating. On the website, I couldn’t even complete the signup process—it constantly failed after entering all my personal information. I finally gave up on the website and decided to download the iOS app, thinking maybe it would be better. Nope. Same issue. After inputting all my information, LockAlert just does nothing.

It’s shocking that a company like Equifax, especially given their history with data breaches, can’t even get the basics right. Being unable to freeze my credit when it’s supposed to be one of their critical services is unacceptable. This company should be ashamed of itself. Equifax, do better. This is a complete failure, and people deserve better security and functionality when it comes to their sensitive financial data.

It just doesn't work

I can log in on the website, but it won't log in on LockAlert . So I tried to sign up instead thinking maybe the all has a different log in. But it keeps giving a Recaptcha error. My phone iOS is up to date. I rebooted and tried again. I logged in on my computer to be sure someone hadn't hacked and locked me out of my own account. It's LockAlert . I'll just log in through my browser. It’s too volatile right now to add more stress to actually trying to keep my identity safe. It is important to know what is going on ASAP.

With the recent leak exposing everyone’s ssn & other info, everyone’s credit should be automatically frozen as the default, and security codes sent to only temporarily lift it for approved credit inquiries.

Nope

Decided to set up monitoring with all 3 companies as my data had been exposed. Registered for all online and then found they all had apps. Thought it would be handy for quick freeze and unfreeze needs. The other 2 majors companies were a cake walk to log in on their apps using my log in that I had created on their websites. This one was different.
Came on and read reviews (how do the developers not see the need to fix this thing) and found out I had to re-register like a new account on LockAlert . No big deal… tried that. Get to the first page and enter my info then check the captcha box and click the big red button and nothing. No note, nothing missing. Just nothing. So I scroll back to the bottom to click the big red button again and then I get the error message that I have to do the captcha. But the captcha box is already checked and there’s nothing else to do. Closed LockAlert . Did this several times over and over and I’m still no closer to creating an account on LockAlert than I was when I started 4 hours ago. What a waste of time.
Guess I’ll delete this one and use the web page on this company and use the more convenient app for the other two.

Different account needed?

I've used Equifax and those other 2 credit bureaus to freeze access to my credit report for over ten years. There's an app? Great, I'll use it!

Wait.. I can't login with my Equifax account. What's the problem? I can log into the website but not LockAlert . Ah, according to the reviews it turns out LockAlert for some reason requires a different Equifax from my website login account. To use LockAlert , I'd have 2 accounts, one for the website, and one for LockAlert .

Life is already complicated enough. I'll just keep using the website to manage my credit freezes. Hope someone at Equifax fixes the product eventually. *app deleted*

Equifax App

This application is a total failure. I login once and it stated I made to many attempts. Then I had to contact Equifax directly and the re had me on the phone for (2) hours didn’t know what he was doing at all. They get paid on how long they have you being on the phone and unlocking my credit report he didn’t what he was doing. Had to report this to consumer credit bureau. And yet I still can’t login and my credit report wasn’t lock for like (2) months. This company need to be deleted and start over with new management and staff cuz they don’t CARE. As of today I still can’t get into my credit report and it a violation of my right plain and simple.

At login it just spins and says loading

I downloaded LockAlert thinking it has something to do with my MyEquifax and it is a completely different login access. Who would have thought. So, I logged into my desktop to get set up and use a completely different password to get set up. Now I go back to log into LockAlert with the new password and all I get is something spinning saying “loading”. Pretty worthless app. Unfortunately I will have to go through a web browser to turn on and off a credit lock. Not a big deal if LockAlert was not available. For such an important part of what Equifax offers I would be amazed except I have worked at many large companies so it hardly phases me anymore.

Epic Fail

If I could give this 0 stars I would. Account set up for Equifax. Can’t use Id and password. Now you find out it’s a separate Id and password you set up and enter all your information again. Who designed this? It should be consistent with the seton from the website. Instead the customer has to figure out after you enter your Id and password a couple of times (and it fails) it won’t work that technically your app and website are separate logins. Developers- I suggest you go back to the drawing board and fix that because I have never seen an app work this way. Very Disappointed and extremely frustrated. No wonder not many users have downloaded LockAlert.

Worthless

Can’t log in, website says call 7 days a week until midnight. Phone says the close 9 M-F, 6 on Saturdays. Got the settlement, supposed to have free ability to lock and a whole identity theft package. Can’t log in anywhere. Had to unlock on phone. Then, a week later tried to log in to lock it again at 1030, offices closed. Had to freeze (not as good, free option, not what i settled for when you let hackers get my private data!!!!!!) Fix the account, open your offices or change your false office Joe’s, and then, please go out of business and then have a few people responsible for all of this, please go to jail.

Edit: To developer reply, we’ll don’t tell me update your app and website! Lol duh

Broken log-in function

I’ll echo what others have written. The log-in function on LockAlert is a mess. I created an account on-line after having issues creating through LockAlert . Was able to navigate on my desk top. Tried to use the mobile app, and could not log on after receiving an error message that my password doesn’t match my user email. No issues logging in on desk top.

It’s negligent (if not grossly negligent) to have this dysfunctional of an app from a company responsible for the credit scores of millions. It’s even more of an issue because it keeps users from being able to freeze credit reports easily. If the past is any measure, the only response will be the same auto-response on other reviews with no real change. I hope I’m wrong.

Total Crap

Your online Equifax ID/password combo is DIFFERENT than what you must create to use LockAlert! So two different sets of credentials to access the same company and information. It’s no surprise Equifax suffered one of the biggest data breaches in history (164 MILLION private records exposed in 2017)! They don’t know what they are doing!

Signing up for an account is also flawed as the web page it loads within LockAlert to go through that process has a big alert at the top of the page that my browser is not supported! My iPhone is only about a month old! Either Equifax isn’t keeping up with the latest versions and patches or their app programmers aren’t updating LockAlert sufficiently.

Equifax remains as nothing more than a necessary evil. Deleting LockAlert and asking any potential future creditors to check my worth using either Transunion or Experian.

Impossible to register, Worst app ever!

I’ve been trying to register for one day now as I’m worried about identity theft and would like to lock or freeze my credit report.

Every time I try to register either here or on the desktop it tells me there have been an error and that I should call a number with a customer care team. I try to call that number during the operation hours listed but it is impossible to reach anyone. They try to put the fault on the COVID and there is no email for customer support. I personally had never seen anything that bad specially since this company is supposed to protect our data carefully.

Anyway I was able to lock and freeze TransUnion and Experian with email confirmation from them. so equifax is the last one I need to lock so If I do get identity theft because of your unavailability, your really bad app, system and website. I will make sure you will be held accountable for this!

DO NOT BELIEVE EQUIFAX RUN FROM THIS APP

The issue is still the same you can’t login with LockAlert and it will lock your account and they will make you verify over phone once you call them your met with the most unprofessional team that make you go to ridiculous lengths to verify your identity and even then they’ll hang up on you or make up an excuse LockAlert WILL cause your account to be frozen and you wont be able to log back in this has been like this for a long time now everything was fine before I downloaded LockAlert they also say they are not the same company as equifax as they will say its handled by another company and are working on it being fixed but that’s false but they security breached many users info If i can save one person the hassle with equifax then it was worth it DO NOT TRUST THEM OR LockAlert THEY WILL CONTINUOUSLY CAUSE TROUBLE FOR YOU DONT BELIEVE ME READ THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS ALL THE POSITIVE ONES I’M SURE ARE PAID FOR BECAUSE NOTHING WORKS “FLAWLESSLY”

I Agree With The Others

Sadly, I have to agree with the other disappointed reviewers. I prefer to use apps vs websites but I decided to register on the website and once confirmed I signed in and looked for a Download Our App or Open in App button but there wasn’t one on the website. I downloaded LockAlert anyway and attempted to sign in but got the same error message three times: the email address and/or password didn’t match, which is impossible seeing how I had literally just opened my account not five (5) minutes earlier. The majority of reviews here are NOT good at all and having experienced the same, I understand their frustration. This is a bad look Equifax but I believe in giving second chances so I’m going wait for a bit, at least through the trial period, and hope the Developers are working diligently to fix the log-in issue and any others that exist. Hopefully these bugs will be squashed soon!!!

The very worst app

DO NOT GET THIS CRAP. I had been using LockAlert for years and it worked GREAT! Recently I ATTEMPTED to open LockAlert in order to unlock my credit report, but LockAlert decided to log me out. I entered my CORRECT log in credentials at least 5x, until LockAlert completely locked me out. The next day I called Equifax customer service in an attempt to get the matter resolved. But, after spending 5 minutes with their stupid automated system which asked me all sorts of questions other that the nuclear launch codes in order to verify me, it finally transferred me to an agent that was dumber than sand who did absolutely nothing, who finally transferred me to someone who was supposed to help me. I don’t know if that person is any better than the original idiot because after waiting for 5 minutes listening to their recorded music, no one answered the phone so I hung up. BOTTOM LINE: Don’t download this crap and get another app that can work. Equifax is not going to give me back the 30 minutes of my life that they took while they absolute nothing.

The worst app…

I normally don’t write any review but LockAlert is useless. I had the same issue with others about unable to use the same login as Equifax website. I read the review and thought it’s ok I can just sign up and have another account so I can lock and unlock my credit report. After signing up and allowing Face ID, LockAlert still wanted me to verify that I am not a bot.. this doesn’t make sense because normally the Face ID logs user right in. So it got a little error because I didn’t click to verify that I was not a bot. I had to make sure I quickly clicked to verify that I was not a bot. The worst part after that is there is nowhere I LockAlert I could lock or unlock… it only shows I freeze my credit report. Useless app. Not sure it is just a temporary things while they are trying to fix the issues or it is just built to show the status… wasting my time signing up for it.

I saw the developer response and it seems they didn’t understand the issue. There was no option to lock or unlock in LockAlert . That is why LockAlert is useless.

Nothing new to say …

Thanks to Dalton Ames and others for saving me the trouble of writing a review. As Dalton Ames points out, any of us who has wrestled with the Lock and Alert app only to find ourselves forced to call Equifax where we encountered a labyrinth of voice options that don’t apply and repeated assertions of “unusually heavy call volume” (Hint, folks, check the definition of “unusually”; it’s not unusual when it happens all the time.), we’ve already spent more of our time than this is worth.

As others have noted, LockAlert often fails to recognize established and valid passwords from log in to log in — I’m certain of this because I, like many of us, keep my passwords in a password safe; the problem is not on my end. Tonight, I managed to log in three times; each time, I selected the option to enable face recognition. That option has yet to register.

That the developers monitor these reviews and often respond is sweet, but it doesn’t fix LockAlert . All in all, LockAlert is part of a larger pattern of customer service from Equifax that reflects a “Let them eat cake” attitude toward we who are putative customers, but are really without much choice in the matter.

Sign up annoying but I hope it will function properly

I just downloaded and signed up for all three of the credit reporting services’ apps and this is the only one that does not recognize and allow you to use an already existing login on the credit service’s website. Yes, you can create your app specific login with the same user name and password but why make a user enter all their personal info to create a login when they already have an Equifax login? I appreciate that apparent simplify of LockAlert and I hope it will work the next time I need to unfreeze my credit report. But the login should be much simpler if you are already an existing Equifax user.

Does what it needs, with caveats…

LockAlert allows the user to lock and unlock your Equifax report, but does not allow you to place a freeze. While the actions are similar, it should be a simple process to allow a choice of the type of restriction you choose to use, especially since there are free options to freeze or lock from the desktop sites, but apparently only both if you have a paid account.

The signup process in LockAlert is buggy as well. The captcha doesn’t work right on mobile, and I had to sign up at their website, and then log into LockAlert . LockAlert just feels very underbaked.

Try before you complain

I downloaded LockAlert yesterday and was having multiple server issues like “server unable to connect” messages after i try to login but after a few more try with some time between each try it finally worked and is much better than the website where you cant freeze it unless you call a rep. Better to have it locked than nothing at all. Dont let the bad reviews discourage you from keeping yourself safe. I am giving it a 4 star due to server problems but overall is better than nothing.

I didn’t have any issues

I thought for sure I would have issues based off these reviews lol. To be fair, because of the reviews, I signed up on equifax site first. Then I came to LockAlert and logged in, and got in fine. Zero issues the whole process. I hope equifax comes out with an app similar to Experian and TransUnion. That has way more features like fraud monitoring, dark web monitoring, etc. None of the ads though lol.

I didn’t want to write a review. But since LockAlert is doing so bad in reviews and I didn’t have any problems, I felt like I had to do it lol.

No problems here!

Sooo this is my first ever app review. I downloaded LockAlert so many years ago (between 5-8+years??) when I had identity theft. I locked my credit and haven’t touched LockAlert ever since. Now that I want to apply for a new credit card, I first updated LockAlert, then had to reset my password (since it’s been years) and enabled FaceID. Worked like a charm, no glitches, no delays. After reading about how horrible LockAlert was, I was ready for major frustration and thinking I’d never get to unfreeze my credit. But LockAlert gods must be watching because I was able to unlock and then quickly lock it again after applying for a credit card online. I also received an email and a text message each time I unlocked/locked it stating that my Equifax credit report is unlocked/locked. So I guess I’ll try it a few more times in the near future to see if maybe I was just lucky this time considering the majority of the reviews are so horrible.

Simply Perfect!

I don’t get why the application has so many bad reviews. In my opinion it works flawlessly and it provided me with the best user experience one can expect. The sign up process was straight forward and locking and unlocking your credit is incredibly simple. Moreover, this is the only company as far as I can tell that provides me the option to LOCK my credit for free. Experian and TransUnion only allows you to FREEZE your credit and only using their websites.

I prefer the simplicity of an application that is installed on my phone. I can set a complex password and use my face ID feature to authenticate locally.

To me this is well worth it and I can only say KUDOS to the team that created it. I see the top negative review as of today claims this company wants to make it difficult for people to lock and unlock their credit. Based on my experience I think they went above and beyond to make it as simple as possible. I still don’t know how to lock my credit on TransUnion or Experian. In my eyes, they are the only one that made me effortlessly for me to lock/unlock credit and see the current state.

Fully recommended app!

App works unlike web site

I have to give LockAlert a good rating. It actually works, unlike the web site, where the link to Lock and Alert gives the good old “Safari can’t find the server” message. I was about to despair my chances of relocking my report until I logged into LockAlert and it took all of 5 seconds — it took a lot longer for me to pull up my password. What can be very confusing is that L&A is a different account/password than any previous Eqfx password you may have used. Several months ago LockAlert actually also saved me from a possible problem with my mortgage closing. I had been able to unfreeze my other reports, but could not make it happen on Eqfx website. LockAlert made it work. Is “locked” a watered down version of “frozen”? Probably, but I’ll take it if it’s the best I can get. It seems to be functionally equivalent as far as I can tell.

Works great for me

I love LockAlert. It has always worked properly for me. I know it works when I tried to make a purchase with my credit. When the dealership tried to run my credit, they came out with a piece of paper to fill out because my credit was locked. I got on LockAlert through my phone and unlocked my credit. I then looked at the finance department and said “try it again “. They just looked at me and said “how did you do that “? I laughed and showed them. They then also downloaded LockAlert .. True story. Thank you Equifax.
