Poor controller support

Would love to rate this higher because the library is pretty impressive. I’m just upset that I can’t play anything with the Backbone one and retro games with touch controls just feel so unsatisfying

The definitive way to play retro games

Antstream allows you to not only play retro games legally and comfortably but it also adds fresh takes to these old games by adding extra content like challenges, online leaderboards and more. A must for every retro game fan

Love this

Best thing to come around. Don’t know why people are complaining games run smooth and whoever said you can’t use the backbone controller is a liar because I use mine all the time and no issue. Keep up the great work devs

brings back memories

Honestly for five bucks a month it’s a great deal definitely worth it

By

No way to sample

Seriously? I can’t play a single game until I jump thru all your registration hoops and subscribe? NOT A SINGLE GAME‽ thanks for wasting my time. Now go away.

By

Requires monthly subscription

Why make the game free if there’s going to be a monthly subscription?

By

Wack

I already paid for these games once in my life now I can pay to play them again….super cool.
Trash.

By

Not worth it

Don’t waste your money it’s too laggy the games freeze a lot

By

Requires a subscription

Disappointed

basically useless

AntstreamArcade is useless unless you have money, i just wanted to play some retro games and i have to pay i don’t know, $10 to play pac-man
and pong, which are games that are about 40+ years old and it’s not only for globally known arcade games, you also have to pay for trashy games that you would see on those cheap arcade gameboy looking things on amazon. waste of cash, waste of time, and a stupid way to play retro videogames

Doesn't seem to work with game controllers

I've tried two different types of game controllers and both failed after five to ten seconds of play.

UPDATE to first review: After a couple of weeks of frustration, I discovered that the problem is connected to the use of a VPN service. When my iPad Pro is connected to a VPN service, regardless of the vpn server's location, game controllers work fine in Antstream's menu system but fail within five to ten second of game play. When the VPN service is shut off, the controllers works as expected. I've revised my rating from 1-star to 4-stars.

Excellent app, works perfectly with Backbone game controller!!

Excellent app, and fantastic application support! At this point, I’ve only played one of its included games (Space Invaders), and it’s been a joy (Space Invaders is just how I remember it, with authentic game sounds). AntstreamArcade works perfectly with the Backbone game controller (no issues whatsoever). It’s so nice to be able to play so many included games from my youth, and I look forward to exploring AntstreamArcade ’s vast assortment of games! A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ app in my opinion!

Beware - Subscription Service Only & Seems Scammy

So while AntstreamArcade is free, you can’t play a thing unless you cough up at least $5 for a subscription. Without so much as having trials games (because if you have access to 1,300 licensed arcade games, how do you not offer a demo?) so you don’t even know how they play, this seems like a scam.

Even if it isn’t, y’all don’t just waltz up and ask for money out the gate without giving us a chance to try your product. Hard pass.

Too good to be true

The games are twice as hard than the old games without the old bgm. Just because you put 6 of the same games doesn’t mean that it’s 6 different games, come on guys 🤨.

Launch only shows sign in screen

No way of previewing AntstreamArcade or any games.
Pointless.
Immediately deleted.

It’s not worth it

AntstreamArcade won’t let you play anything unless they get paid

By

Duh, it’s a streaming service.

That’s why it costs money, geniuses.

Not Worth The Price

Major Con: can’t play anything or try out the features of AntstreamArcade unless you pay for a subscription. What’s the point of giving people free coins to participate? Kinda dumb.

Fairly decent selection of games that will keep you entertained if you enjoy retro game genre. Nothing you haven’t seen before and can’t play on your retro consoles, modern handheld consoles and even phone today.

Only reason to get AntstreamArcade is for the challenges, which, in most cases are rigged in a way that your level of play time in any single game is quite limited. A good spin, but misses the mark, in my opinion.

As a gamer, I personally don’t mind the price paid, but, in its current state, definitely wish I could get a refund.

Hope it improves though over time.

Unplayable Without Subscription

It’s wild that you can’t play a single thing without paying a monthly subscription fee.
I downloaded the Delta emulator and have been able to play any retro game I want for free. Just gotta download the roms.

By

Why isn’t there a trial

I want to try this but don’t want to pay anything unless I know it’ll run well. It’s 2024. Where’s the trial?

By

Really

And BattleToads and BattleToads Double Dragon. I’d subscribe but there’s a lot of missing titles. Good missing titles.

I really wanted to like this.

The list of games is endless and amazing, but that means nothing if you can’t play them. The touch controls are totally useless and sometimes they don’t even work. A controller is definitely needed to play any of the games. Also I kept noticing in the middle of game play my screen freezes for a second then comes back, and it did that on every game I played. Has a lot of the games I used to play which bums me out because I really wanted to like this.

Bad privacy policy

This privacy policy is gross. Identifiable location data is collected and sold, no thought at all paid to user safety if there’s a data breach. Why would Apple approve this madness?

By

Great start, lots to improve though

I’m enjoying the wide selection of games and historical curiosities, like being able to compare multiple versions of a particular game. There are some lag issues occasionally but performance is generally ok. Recommendations: Add a “Tate” mode for vertical shooters and other games that used a vertical display, such as dig dug. This should be a no brainer on portable devices that can easily be turned vertically to support these games in their optimal aspect ratio. Add an Apple TV version. Apple TV supports wired connections which will help lag issues immensely, not to mention being able to play these classics on the big screen. Yes, there’s mirror play but it was a choppy unplayable mess for whatever reason, a native app will fix this issue. Add a rewind function! Save states are nice but the lack of a quick load function makes it a pain to use for tricky sections of games. Speaking of which Add a quick load function!
