Not user friendly, clunky, confusing

Stocksapp has one good feature that the apple stocks app doesn’t have - you can add your cost basis and number of shares. However, they make it so clunky and difficult to actually add that info that I’m actually debating with myself whether it’s easier to just pull out a calculator and figure it myself. If you have a static portfolio that you will never change, it’s probably worth spending the 30+ tedious minutes it will take you to get the info into Stocksapp , but if you’re trading regularly, forget about it. While it does link to my Fidelity account and pull my holdings automatically, it doesn’t pull all of the info, so I have to enter everything manually anyway. There are so many confusing screens and options that it looks cluttered, and the icons and options are not very clear, which means I end up wasting lots of time clicking into screens that I’m not looking for. The Apple stocks app is so easy to use, why can’t someone just copy that and add a couple of features and call it a day?

New privacy policy makes it spyware

This used to be a very good and useful app with great functionality. Maple Media purchased it and has changed the privacy policy as of May 2021 when you update it. “With your permission, we access information from your device, such as your general location, contact lists, photo library, and calendar. If you choose to give us access, you may also link your use of the Services with your cloud storage accounts.” Excuse me…for a stock app?! It also says they can share your information and profile you for marketing… after you enter all your investment information and some clues about your net worth. Stocksapp went from great to absolutely sinister spyware in one little update. I’m deleting it permanently. Maple Media wrote me a response saying: “If you read this page, you will see that none of the data that you mention in your review is collected or stored by us.” What I wrote in quotes above was copied and pasted from Maple Media’s privacy policy itself.

Nosedive

Been with Stocksapp for many years, from pre-app store I think when it came out of Germany. I like the clean, utilitarian format and ability to track performance of my own stocks. Made it worth wading through news stories that are about ⅓ computer-generated or never display, and the slow load times. However today I’m suddenly inundated by ads in the news feed and obnoxious banner ads taking up large areas of the screen plus much-increased “an error has occurred” messages when I try to open a news story. They’re trying to annoy me out of $20/yr. I’m undecided yet if I’ll fork over the cash or be stubborn and finally just sub out anther app, but the ads are invasive enough that it’ll probably be one or another. I don’t think I want to spend $20/yr (every year!) for something this buggy.

Best of Bad Options.

Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a decent, straightforward, portfolio tracker app. This one does an okay job:

- Can handle multiple portfolios
- Accurately imports data if you take the time to enter it
- Has a documented import format to streamline the process

Where it’s woefully deficient is in the UX:

- Font sizes in Stocksapp can’t be customized. They are laughably large on an iPad Pro, for instance...they should be tailor able.
- The multicolumn view on iPad can’t be customized - you get a three-pane view that is pretty basic and doesn’t allow any meaningful customization.
- There’s no way to look at the consolidated set of portfolios. It’s a presumably basic feature...but missing.
- For advanced users - especially one that’s asking $80 for a lifetime license - there’s zero for you beyond the basics. For instance:
- No Shortcuts support.
- No widgets support.
- No export support.
- No Apple Watch support (arguably not an advanced feature).

TL;DR: Stocksapp works, and works well for very basic things. It’s incredibly clunky to use. It needs a serious UX overhaul. It needs to seriously invest in advanced UX/iOS/iPadOS capabilities to be great.

It’s ALMOST a great app. Keep at it...

Great app... few tweaks could make it even better

Great app that works well and is very simple to use. The instant alert feature is awesome! I think a few simple changes would make Stocksapp even better - for instance, on the main stock tracker screen, it would be great if the user had the ability to add customized columns (e.g. 52 week high/low, div yield, etc.). Seeing this on one page, without having to click into each stock to see the details, would be great. Nonetheless, really good app for tracking a broad list of stocks.

Emerging

The big, better, and the way that you have it where people like me can go into a particular stock, and a lay person like myself to understand what is going on with the product itself' is amazing. I am not a broker, and I would not presume to tell someone what to do with his or her finances. I have leaned 3 important lesson, #1 do not attempt to tell anyone how they should be spending their hard earn money. I worked in the banking industry, #2 questions about their #2 questions about their policies, and last but not least #3 never bring up the family of any kind.......unless something in a good way, that you won’t cut off your nose, to spite your face. Thanks for your time!

Pretty Good

Stocksapp is pretty good, it could use a few more features to become a great app. It would be great if you could view a graph by entire portfolio for a period of time (day, week, month, quarter, YTD, Year) and it would also be good for a bit more dividend information (ex-date, and payment date) - other than those couple of things I think this is one on the best apps out there, and hopefully these additional features will come soon, and I can give them a 5 star instead of the 4 star.

The customer service is really amazing - I have needed their help and they respond quickly, I have sent ideas for improvement and they respond quickly.

One of the best out there

I’m down to Apples stock app and this one. Probably my favorite feature here is the “comparison” overlay. I use it this way; I pick my various sector funds and stock symbols, along with the (sector) IDX. This allows me a quick performance comparison. You can compare several symbols at once. Open your chart in horizontal mode and add symbols. Each symbol will be given its own color line. Another feature I appreciate in Stocksapp is, of course, Dark Mode. I do not need nor want the news feed but it’s here for those that do. Good job on Stocksapp!

Great For Notifications of Stock Price Changes

It’s a solid app for obtaining market prices, where it shines is the news provided regarding specific stocks & notifications that can be customized to fit your needs.

Would you like to buy a stock but prefer to wait on a specific price before pulling the trigger? One option is to setup a limit trade with your broker, a better option for some is the price notifications you can setup in Stock Tracker.

Simple, Practical and Effective for My Needs

Stocksapp is practical for what I need. It is a simple interface that provides, among other features, an easy way to setup and track portfolios. The charts are flexible and detailed enough for my needs, and, the news feed for tickers has been useful for me. There are other features in Stocksapp, but I have not needed them yet.

A recent app update caused major app usability issues for a couple of days, but seems to have been completely resolved now (otherwise would be 5 stars).

Unreliable, at best

***Update***
Developers, thanks for the response. I cannot offer a second chance for another “...we have been experiencing overload on our servers due to extremely high activity of our users because of market volatility and financial crisis” response. This statement simply translates to me that: “we are and have been unprepared for prime-time!” Sadly, it appears that the blame is being placed on the end-users/ Covid-19, and “...this is out of our control unfortunately.” After all, this is real money...not paper-trading people! Get it together!

***Original Post***
Don’t waste your time with Stocksapp. News is hit or miss, frequent SSL connection errors, and extremely unreliable brokerage integration. Subscription cancelled! App long-pressed....and permanently deleted. Good luck...

Stock Tracker App Is A Good One

This is a well formatted app packed with assorted basic useful information, news articles often not found on some popular stock related websites, and session specific settings and customizations. Dark mode is a nice extra.
Someone there is very responsive to questions so the support seems very good.
It has a fair pricing structure if you don’t like the ads. But, they’re not particularly bad if you choose to keep them.
I’d like Stocksapp to be a one stop shopping solution. To that end, it would be nice to have the same finger tip access to additional details like earnings, ex-div, record, and div payout dates associated with many stocks, but they may be working on that.
Thanks.

Short update - everything else already reviewed still hold, but just a little caution and skepticism on the news feeds would be prudent.
Also, support has been consistently responsive, polite, and professional.

Worst customer service

I used to like Stocksapp. I even bought free ads for life. But when I updated my iOS operating system Stocksapp totally glitched and my lengthy and painstakingly accurate portfolio disappeared. I could understand and be patient if there was a real problem and they successfully communicated. But it’s been three weeks I’ve been begging for help and asking for a phone call. Instead they’d send me a text showing me how to take a screen shot. I’ve never been more frustrated trying to get help from an app. It takes 5 or more days for a reply, and after I supply them with all the proof they ask for, they admit I’ve done everything right. But they don’t offer to help me. Looking for a new app😔

Does it’s function well; great customer service

I’ve been a paid user for 2+ years and I love Stocksapp.

In short: it just works. It does what it’s supposed to do, and does it well.

I am able to track many distinct price alerts easily from my phone, including daily / instant notification settings. The support team is also highly responsive, and has always accommodated my requests. Do recommend!

Great stock tracker

Love Stocksapp!
The ability to set up portfolios helps me to track different types of stocks (CEFs, Mutual Funds, Equities,MMS etc) and as well as investments.
Wish List and Sold let me track past and future.
I like to track just one stock vs actual holdings for quick comparisons. You can see daily and total changes, percentages change and volume
They are very helpful with problems and setting up stocks not already up.

Unintuitive news feed

It would be great if there was a way to see the most recent news for an entire portfolio (kind of like a scrolling feed). Currently, the only way to view news is to individually select a stock symbol, then click the next symbol, then click the next symbol, etc. The only way to know if there’s any new news is to click a stock symbol. That’s a very unintuitive and slow process. Again, if you had a way to see all recent news headlines for an entire portfolio, it would be so much nicer.

Great app options, ruined by overuse of ads

I loaded Stocksapp to monitor stock and bond performance, and to send alerts when certain points were reached. In that, it would earn 4, possibly 5, stars. But every page is positively packed with ads everywhere there isn’t data, and it is extremely distracting. Try to close something and you get the ransom note: no ads for $9.99! I would have paid half that up front, but now I feel like I’m feeding a tapeworm instead of investing in an app. Disappointing because it could be great with some level of “one ad per page” restraint. 3 stars.

Just okay

I can say that Stocksapp has some features that the Apple Stocks app doesn’t. Notably, however, it’s missing the ability to roll up portfolios hierarchically or to import portfolios from common brokerages. It’s not possible to graph even a single portfolio’s value over time, either. I agree with other reviewers that entering positions manually is clunky and time-consuming. I’ve also noticed some inaccurate price quotes for certain funds. Customer support is okay if you are okay with nothing ever actually getting fixed.

Nice app

Nice app. Really appreciate it. One suggestion for me is that in the news feed, so many of the sources are (to use a trendy term) fake newspapers. Okay you can get an algo to download numeric stats of any stock and spin it out into 3 pages of verbiage. The same general verbiage every time with the numbers filled in. It's an overflowing wave of junk.

And to whoever said there's no fundamentals/ accounting data--not true. It's there. The third thing, with news and charts.

Is it a bug?

Is it just me? I am using iPhone 11 Pro Max . I have Stocksapp showing in the widget section. When I click the ticker in the widget. It will open Stocksapp and show me the ticker stock( sometimes it just open Stocksapp with showing the specific ticker). The price is not immediately updated. It will show “NYSE last updated xx:xx EST”. The time is often hours ago. I have to wait till it update. Can you make it show the real time price right away. Thanks!

The lastest update ruined the app!!!

The latest update is HORRIBLE! It ruined Stocksapp widget! Instead of being able to see up to 32 stocks in your watch list and click through the current price, the $ change, market cap, and % change, all you get is the % change for only 20 stocks. Less info on less stocks. And only the % change in stock price. Far less important than the actual price and $ change! So instead of getting all the info you need at a glance you have to open Stocksapp and scroll through all the stocks you have and are watching. Thanks but I can do that in the Apple stock app without ads!!! Seems like a way to get users to see more ads. And I bought the ad free subscription and I see ads. Fix the widget issue. It was the best thing about Stocksapp .

Previous Review:
Instant Alerts are now working again with the fix! Thank you. They had stopped working with a previous update. But now they’re back.

Love being able to see up to 32 stocks from my watchlist in their widget and click through their $change, current price, % change and see all 32 stocks at the same time. Much better than having to scroll through a maximum of 11 (down from 20) with the Apple Stock widget. Also like the info in Stocksapp that shows the % that’s institutional owned. And the option for a black theme.

Charts and alerts- simple & perfect

I love your app and it is not the first one I’ve tried. It is easy to set up holdings and gives me quick charts. My main reason for using Stocksapp is the alerts (when below a certain price) and it has worked well for that. Also love the dark theme. When I upgraded to ‘ad free’ the ads instantly went away. Keep it simple and keep up the good work!

No way to sync info on multiple devices.

I loved Stocksapp when I first downloaded it, so much so that I am a paid customer. But I was severely disappointed to learn that there was no way to sync my portfolio on all my devices, I had to and continue to manually make additions and changes on each device, it might seem like a small detail but lack of syncing obviously means that If you forget or make any mistakes you end up with inconsistencies, and that’s not good when it come to your finances. Please fix that.

Last update

Really slowed down with the last update. Bummer.
Update. Developer got back to me on it and suggested I close open apps. I really appreciate that follow up but unfortunately the new update remains slow. Typically, when apps do this (and it may not be the case here) they are capturing more data from their users. So, my question is, does the update capture more user data?

Stock Tracker

Great app. Great customer service. Occasionally as with all software a bug develops and they are very responsive when customers bring problems to their attention.

App is very helpful in keeping informed of stock and etf prices, data and news.

Very helpful to anyone that owns stock, funds, etfs, etc, which includes most of us in this day of 401K’s and IRA’s.

No moving banners !!!

When I download Stocksapp it did not have banners now it has banners if the banners were not moving around I would have rated Stocksapp as 3 stars, but the banners are moving and just to look at Stocksapp now hurts the eyes. I not plan on paying for a fix that removes the banners at all weather it is yearly or for live time. I think I will be removing Stocksapp from my iPad. Moving banners is not the way to get customers to get other apps it just sends the customers in the other d direction in search of a app that has no banners at all or apps that have solid banners that do not move at all.

Stocks Pro is all that I need!

The days of micro-following my investments are well behind me. Stocks Pro and on-line access to my brokerage, are all that I need going forward. By following my withdrawal regimen and occasional conversations with my advisor, I only choose to macro-follow the equities markets from time to time as a matter of interest. The GUI makes Stocks Pro the perfect app for me.

Indispensable

This is the first thing I look st in the morning. I like the colored gain-loss tabulations, the news that explains why a stock has going up or down, and the colored charts that can even compare several companies I am tracking. There is also tabular data that provides what you need to know.

Unstable after linking account

Stocksapp works great on its own. It seemed that it had the functionality that I was looking for, so I paid to get rid of the ads.

I decided to link my Robinhood account. Now Stocksapp crashes constantly and is unusable. The developer wants users to use the in-app contact function for help, but I can’t get that far into Stocksapp before it crashes.

I suppose I will try it again at a later date now that I am out a couple bucks for removing the ads.

My go to app

I have about 10 stock tracking apps and this is my favorite. Well organized, bug free and easy to use. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Update: still my favorite stock tracking and stock/market news source. Makes my life as an investor that much easier. Good work, thank you. MM

iCloud problems

All my entries in My Holdings page on my iPad have disappeared and erased the data on the iPhone. When I re-entered the data on iPhone, the empty iPad prevailed and deleted the newly entered data right in front of my eyes! Had to re-enter AGAIN but on iPad. And disabled the iCloud Sync. Frustrating!

App is not connecting to TSX, prices are several days old as of June 8, 2021. I have removed and reinstalled the app several times. Otherwise this has been a great daily app! Hope you can fix the issues.
