The original grainfather app for brewing was such a pleasure to use, just enter the steps hit go and follow along. This new version? I have spent nearly an hour just trying to enter the recipe this is unbelievably convoluted - maybe all this scientific mumbojumbo is useful for brewing scientists and anal retentives - I just want to brew some beer.

After some more poking around in GrainfatherCommunity I found that you can manually control the HW via bluetooth - and some of the built in calculators are handy. Really wish you guy would make a simplified version or area in GrainfatherCommunity where i can enter in the steps without having to go into minute detail of every step - but maybe that is in there. I’ll keep digging around while I’m waiting for my strike water to come up to temp...

Can’t agree more with the community in this. GrainfatherCommunity is not worth using. Made a critical mistake and updated to the new version of GrainfatherCommunity. Now GrainfatherCommunity crashes every time. Not working at all. Frustrated and disappointed.

Primarily the biggest problem with GrainfatherCommunity is how poorly it handles the simple task of starting a brew session and accurately logging brew sessions! GrainfatherCommunity is a kludge of really great looking tools which I am able to use and like individually. But GrainfatherCommunity falls short in the area of recipe selection when starting a new brew session. It is difficult to select your recipe! It is difficult start the actual brew session! Brew session versions get mysteriously generated and stored out! In general GrainfatherCommunity has been put together piecemeal and has lost obvious intuitive control of sessions causing you to restart the session. Then you end up with stored versions of the same recipe saved without a clue as to why!
You need to really clean up the session control aspect of GrainfatherCommunity ! This is killing your product!

Like almost everyone on here, I am sadly giving this terrible app my one star rating. It’s painfully obvious that the company cares more about its social media features than it does about brewing beer. My issue is that when I create a new recipe and spend a bunch of time tweaking it, it disappears!!! I have lost three recipes out of the blue and other recipes will show up with 10 duplicates.

Nobody cares about the flashy graphics and the photos of hipsters! Nobody cares about your “tips for tasting” or your other cheesy content. We just want a simple app that actually works to control our brew day. Listen to your customers and redevelop GrainfatherCommunity !!!!!

I am seriously considering selling this thing and buying an Anvil or Clawhammer. Very disappointed!!

I loved my two Grainfather and use to tell everyone how much I loved the device but GrainfatherCommunity simple put is “useless” to be polite. I expect to do everything manually as this apps simply doesn’t work at all. What a waste of time and money. GrainfatherCommunity looks pretty but simply doesn’t work. I imported my recipes online but could never get my recipes to sync to GrainfatherCommunity . I was able to get the software to connect to one of the two Grainfathers but every time I tried to start a recipe it failed. Why??? Grainfather competition is growing quickly and you could be the #1 choice but sadly you look like you are simply trying to put yourself out of business. Why???? I will miss such a great product that sadly shot itself in the foot when it could have kept the lead and grown to be the product that all brewers wished they owned.

Decent app but broken on the new update, it crashes on launch.

App opens and then crashes less than 5seconds later. Happens on both apple software 17.2 and 17.3

The new UI is not friendly and we the community don't like it! Please bring back the old UI. Works so much better!

When you open GrainfatherCommunity on IPad, it shows a photo of people drinking beer. Unfortunately there is no field to enter registration info and get started. A tiny sliver at the bottom is impossible to navigate and enter info. Hopefully can be fixed...otherwise the Grainfather without GrainfatherCommunity . ???!

Recipe editing is not intuitive and very clunky. Also, importing metric recipe measures and converting to Us doesn’t happen.

Operating the controller via Bluetooth is very nice.

It’s great to brew with but it is terrible to create with. Lags bounces around and sensitive all at the same time. Don’t forget to change you efficiency every time. I just got screwed on my last brew.

I have a G40 to simplify my brew day. The last time I used GrainfatherCommunity about 2 months ago it was okay, now I can’t even figure out how to start a brew session.

Same as last update it crashes soon after loading. I don’t remember how I might’ve got it to work or if I did but hopefully it works on my iPad. Don’t know if I remember how to brew manually 😁

Been using for a few years. I like it when it works but lately it won't even stay open for more than a few seconds. App and phone are up to date. Unusable as it currently is, please fix.

Shenanigans! No way I will update GrainfatherCommunity until actual reviews come out. Got burned the last time a major update came out. They took a perfectly working app and destroyed it with social nonsense and broke key functionality. This is a test to see if this review gets posted. Your move Apple / Grainfather.

Chose GrainfatherCommunity for brewing because it did what I needed it to do better than the other options. Unfortunately, when I was trying to brew today, it kept shutting down. GrainfatherCommunity is up-to-date, the phone is updated, I restarted my phone, I repeatedly started GrainfatherCommunity , nothing I did seemed to work. GrainfatherCommunity makes some of the brew planning a little easier, but if it is not going to work, it turns out to be a complete waste of time. Now I don’t know if I’m going to get my notes from my previous brews back.

I love GrainfatherCommunity . Using Grainfather Gcast to connect my Tilts made all the difference in app use ability. The only downside is GrainfatherCommunity displays current gravity, but does not track gravity with temperature. This can be found when looking at the tilt, but it would be very nice to see it overlay in graph when selecting the conical fermenter.

I used to have a bad experience with GrainfatherCommunity, but have done a few brews recently and it’s getting better. I think the recipe calculator still needs work but they’ve fixed a lot of the connectivity issues and step functionality which is critical if you’re trying to use during brew day. I like GrainfatherCommunity overall.

I love using GrainfatherCommunity to run my brew day on The Grainfather. I’m able to monitor my brew day from anywhere in my house, and I can control my mash temperature with a touch of a button. It’s awesome!

I figured it’s about time to do a review since I bought my Grainfather G30 in 2015. I have upgraded it to match the version 3 currently on the market and I believe it is the best product on the market and at a great price point for what it does. Yes you can get cheaper systems out there for about half the price but I don’t believe any of those cheaper systems can do what my Grainfather does. And now that I can connect to GrainfatherCommunity with my recipe programmed , well I’m just all smiles when I’m brewing. Sometimes I’ll brew a 5.5 gallon batch of all grain and sometimes I’ll do a 15 gallon batch by using LME with specialty grains. This G30 is awesome, to do the 15 gallons I’ll have 7.5 gallons in the Grainfather that I transfer to my fermenters then top them off for a total of 15 gallons and the beer comes out fantastic. When I wear this one out I’ll definitely be buying another Grainfather, maybe a G40 but I’m very happy with my G30.
