Advice for expats/people who live/moving overseas, do yourselves a favor...close your account, and jump ship to CitiBank...HSBC HK app, website, banking is straight up garbage when compared to other banks/banking app.
First is the log-in process, which always require you to answer your question, fine. Then on to your password...what is the 4th/6th, and last letter of your password? Or 1st/5th/second to the last...it’s like pulling hair just to access your own money.
Second thing is the the process to reactivate a dormant account. HSBC in Hong Kong requires little calculator looking device to sign-in...I understand you can switch it to a mobile device security, BUT you need the physical device to switch over to the mobile phone security device. Once your account is dormant, you can’t even update your phone number/email without that calculator...okay, only you can snail mail a form from overseas...it’s been over a month since I mailed my form, and still haven’t heard anything back yet.
Yeah, do yourself a favor go to a different bank. Last time I was in HK, I wasted 3 hours in the Yuen Long branch just to reactivate account/get cash out.

So one fine day the app suddenly told me that I was entering an incorrect password and I know I wasn’t. The helpline guys suggested I try going the forgot password route. Long process ensued (the helpline guys were most helpful), which involved changing of passwords and a trip to the branch. When we were ready to restart, helpline asked me to delete the app and download again. Except this reload let me use my old password! No more messages of incorrect password! Some glitch in the app lead to all the fuss 🤯. Still waiting for HSBC to get back to me about why this was happening. Hoping this will catch their attention.

Every time I try to login by entering the Mobile Security Key password, it keeps telling me that my mobile banking session has expired, even though I have JUST updated it. I can’t even contact HSBC either to fix this because I am overseas. Your hotlines are down, the Live Chat feature on your website isn’t working, and I don’t see an email address I can contact. How the hell am I supposed to fix this?! Such a useless, unnecessarily complicated app. I use the HSBC US app all the time with ease- this one is absolute garbage in comparison.
