Sunbasket Meal Delivery Reviews

We love Sun Basket! We've been ordering 3-4 meals a week for almost a year now and couldn't be happier with this service. We chose Sun Basket because they offer organic ingredients, and none of the other services we explored do. But we've also been thrilled with the huge variety of really creative, delicious meals inspired from cuisine all over the globe, the easy to follow instructions, the convenience of the phone app, and the bonus content and recipes in each week's booklet. We've learned a lot about cooking, have tried things we never otherwise would have, and have enjoyed cooking together regularly. It's also been a huge time saver -- no more deciding what to cook, making shopping lists, and having to grocery shop during our busy work week -- or getting stuck with too much of something that just ends up going bad. There are only two of us, so the portions are perfect. And we're getting a great balance of nutrients & veggies in every meal. We're big meat eaters but have also been trying a lot of the vegetarian options and loving them. There have been a handful of occasions when an ingredient was either missing or past its prime, but they've always been responsive and fast to issue us a generous credit to cover its replacement and make up for the inconvenience. Highly recommend.

We tried all the different services with the different promotions and came back to Sunbasket and have been using for more than two years. They have only gotten better. We love the quality of the ingredients and the proteins fresh from the butcher. We love that they are healthy and low in carb, bad fats and sugars. The meals are delicious and easy to prepare- and I feel healthier with more energy and a clearer mind than I did before. We both work long hours and it’s just my husband and I so before we might have grabbed a pizza or Chinese- not good! The proteins are so good- I cannot even buy from our local grocery- we live in a rural area and have no Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s so this has been great- especially with the new social distancing requirements. My fave was that they added the market place and we can buy the proteins and other stuff separate from the meals. I use the sous-vide eggs and the breakfast rounds along with their cold pressed juices for healthy breakfasts. Any time we have had any issue with items damaged in shipping- or food not up to the normal standard they have quickly made it right! I hate too sound dramatic but Sunbasket boxes have changed our lifestyle!

On my third week of SunBasket meals and I have to honestly say I have really liked them all. All the food was easy to prepare and the meals looked like the pictures in the “cook booklet”. I’m an experienced and good cook so it’s easy for me, but I talked my novice of a cook husband into preparing one of the meals and he did a great job! I am getting some really interesting ideas on how to enhance my own cooking. Mostly I am choosing the Paleo option and it’s making it easier to keep on track. I wish I could afford to get a basket every week but they do make it easy to skip a week or change your meal options. I love that all their packing is recyclable too. Also enjoying not having to shop or decide what we’re eating for a few nights. Ok - the downside: the first two meals included arugula and baby kale which I despise so I had to sub spinach for the greens. One box had a meal with green beans and one with tomatoes and they were not of the best quality - I would never have chosen them for my family. I emailed one of their customer service representatives- Tianni, and she refunded $10 off that basket. She has been really nice and helpful- something I sincerely appreciate. Definitely recommend!

First the like, lower sodium than others, a menu booklet of all the weeks foods. But they are changing that to cards.
What I don’t like.. I tried one delivery and skipped the following week. I skipped delivery on time and I have proof of the email. I was shocked to see as soon as I cancelled ( seconds) they automatically took money out of my account and sent a delivery I did not pick, I skipped it! I skipped for a few reasons..so I knew I skipped on on their time table before charges are made. I wanted to see how the first delivery was and the next food selection did not look appetizing at all. So I had to make the next one dinners ( they sent and picked) my way because it was awful, and make sure you know how to add spices!! My first week we paid a lot for a scallop dish and it tasted delicious but it was so small it was disappointing. Just scallops and rice for 20. 00 dollars per person. And following week you have to pay for shipping for a meal that were cancelled. I tried talking to various people but they hide behind texts and emails to say, “I’m sorry our records show you did not cancel at the time given.” They literally steal money! Do not use this service! They will take money when you cancel instantly! And they don’t look into records or they don’t keep them. Food is not that good for the money you pay either. Based on reviews I am not the only one they have done this to! Taking this to BBB. This has to stop!

Sun Basket is by far the best meal plan available. I love how the company takes my feedback into consideration and I can see the changes from my feedback a couple weeks later on SunbasketMealDelivery . SunbasketMealDelivery is extremely user friendly and they make it readily available for you to cancel or skip a week, because they are very confident in their retention rate from week to week. The prices are highly reasonable for organically sourced food. I have been with Sun Basket for over a month and I have not noticed any duplication in the recipes from week to week—that being said, they offer 18 different recipes every week. I have not seen any competitor offer such top quality food, with variety, and seamless organization. Everything about the service of this company exudes excellence.

Sunbasket also works quite well on the grocery budget because it has encouraged and taught me to cook. I do not have to over-buy food that I end up throwing away, and by cooking everything stored in my fridge—my family eats out less, reduce food waste, and enjoy family time together. I have already shaved 25% off my food budget.

I have tried several of the delivery meal services. What I like about Sun basket- the ability to choose the type of food ie- Mediterranean, paleo, vegan, vegetarian etc. SunbasketMealDelivery is easy to use. The food was fresh and like all others they use recyclable packing and food was fresh. What I don’t like: they charge for delivery; you can’t pick your day; the inability to cancel within SunbasketMealDelivery . They state they will email you back within 48 hours- that was wrong. I canceled after the first delivery. The policy is you must cancel before 12 PST on Wednesday the week before. I sent emails days before the cut off requesting cancelation with no retuned conformation email. I was then forced to call to ensure my credit card wasn’t charged. First the call taker tried to say I didn’t cancel in time. This was wrong. I emailed them twice canceling the service. Then she stated I called after the cut off time and would be charged and receive delivery. Then it was I won’t charge you, but you may still get the delivery. Then she
was able to pull the emails. Before she cancelled the service she tried to get me to “skip” weeks. I told her I wasn’t interested and to cancel the service all I got were excuses as to why I should keep the service. If you want a hassle then give em a try.

I placed my first order because I had COVID-19 and a coupon for a sweet discount from my employer’s employee health initiative popped into my inbox. My expectations weren’t high. I had tried a different highly rated meal service previously and every meal brought soylent green to mind. So, I didn’t think I would continue past recovery. My first Sunbasket meal stunned me.

The food that Sunbasket provides is delicious and nicely garnished. I look forward to and have enjoyed every meal. The value, even without the discount is there. I’m not spending any more than I would at the grocery store, there is no waste, no leftovers. I don’t have to spend time meal planning, inventorying the fridge and pantry, creating a grocery list, shopping and the time spent prepping, cooking and cleaning up is minimal.

I’m sticking with Sunbasket for as long as the quality and value remain.

My husband and I had been receiving Sunbasket for a few months after our baby was born to make life a little easier on us during the pandemic. We liked it back then. We moved at the end of the year and paused our service for a few months, and just started it up again. Big mistake. We upgraded our meals to organic meat, as we always did, but when we ate it we realized it was far from organic. We aren’t sure what it was, really. The ground turkey had so many mystery hard chunks and pieces of gristle that it was inedible. My toddler (who has never gotten sick or vomited before) vomited after his third bite because it was just that disgusting. My husband was nauseous for hours afterward. Needless to say, we threw out our meal that night and I had to whip up something else for my son to eat. We also threw out the other meals we had for the rest of the week because the chicken breasts leaked juice all over the refrigerator and we no longer trust their meat. A week later and I am still getting canned responses from customer service about getting a refund - but they managed to cancel my service. Honestly, we used to get Green Chef and never had issues with the food quality so we will probably start their service back up again.

I just received my first order from Sun Basket. They substituted nonorganic cauliflower without prior notice. I would have ordered a different meal had I known. The cauliflower was also old with a pink haze on it. Sun Basket is one of the more expensive meal kits and to receive rotten food is unacceptable. I wrote to Sun Basket and after 2 days I get a response “Hi I am Aniki. I will pass your concerns along”. I then get another email to rate how helpful Aniki was. All Aniki did was kick the can down the road. There wasn’t even an apology that I was unhappy with rotten food. There was no other response despite multiple emails to complain about rotting food.

The other meal was just ok (shrimp and orzo) Luckily, I can cook. The sauce was not balanced and I needed to fix it. This is not a meal kit if you are a novice. They also don’t send written instructions like other meal kit companies do. You have to use SunbasketMealDelivery . If my phone goes to sleep I have to reopen SunbasketMealDelivery and find the recipe again. It was annoying for my husband who doesn’t cook and needed to follow the directions.

It is too bad this is such poor quality food. It sounds good and the meals look interesting. Sun Basket needs work. It is just a waste of money as it is currently.

Started and used sun basket and was happy with the service. We canceled 6 months ago and all was well. 6 months later we are traveling in Italy and we get email that our account was shipping product. I went into SunbasketMealDelivery and put skip on all the deliveries until I could deal with it. I then called a day later and spoke to representative and asked them to cancel the account. Week and half later we have a delivery at our door. We called Sunbasket and their representative kept saying you were on SunbasketMealDelivery and that reactivated the service. I don’t know how the application was activated but beware that the service reactivates evidently if it’s turned on. The company won’t admit to or help you they will just say we were on the application, which we were to try and stop shipments and cancel. We called a representative and deactivated through SunbasketMealDelivery . Still we were charged and the company would not help us. I have owned multiple business and managed 100 plus customer service employees. I know what good companies with good customer service WILL do and this company does not have good customer service policies. Buyer you are informed.

This has to be the worst experience of my life I was excited when I first saw the three meals i ordered And plan on cooking one of them has a late dinner at 10 o’clock I had to go to bed and I heard a knock on the door at 11:30 the driver dropped it and ran the packaging was horrible the tape was undone on the top the lettuce or endive on the top was not refrigerated. And there was a note that said I was in a hot heat zone or someone showed for water bottles up here to Have been partially frozen one time. To top it off I was on a new subscription and it was supposed to be 40% off and they charged me $72 and did not take the coupon away. When I click to call the service that they use for delivery called OnTrac they couldn’t find my package and the driver was nonresponsive. I’m filing dispute with PayPal. If I was there I spent $72 for three meals I could’ve done better in a restaurant the produce was very small. The shallots for one recipe were mushy and sprouted I wouldn’t recommend this company to anybody and I wait for a response back to see what they say I took pictures but I don’t see a place to upload them here don’t spend your money here it’s not worth it go to the store

We recently discovered Sun Basket and have now gotten 3 weekly shipments of mainly Fresh & Ready meals, but also several Meal Kits too, and we have enjoyed all of the meals. Our schedules are very hectic so cooking at home is very difficult but the Meal Kits (speedy in our case), have given my wife and I the ability to prepare some fresh meals together for dinner. The Fresh & Ready meals have all been delicious and the use/freeze by dates on the meals are very useful too.

My only hope is that Sun Basket will incorporate a search filter to automatically select the lowest sodium meal options in the Fresh & Ready offerings, listed in lowest to highest order, in the future so we do not have to look through every meal’s nutritional content. Or, it would be awesome if an entire low sodium (< 600mg per meal) Fresh & Ready category becomes available sometime.

We’ve been getting Sunbasket for a few weeks now and love the healthy food. The highest Consumer Reports rating (latest edition) on Sunbasket was one of the tipping points that got me to join and place my first order. The organic produce and hormone & antibiotic free meats and selected sea food is outstanding. Consuming residual growth hormones in meat just can’t be good for you!

The choice of meal plans is plentiful from Vegan to Mediterranean diet which is the plan we selected. The flavor & taste of the Sunbasket meals we prepare (you can also receive ready to go meals) is equally to the best restaurants around. We have yet to get a meal we didn’t absolutely love. We also found it’s fun to cook together without having to go to the store for a few key ingredients required in recipes. The best gift you can have is good health & Sunbasket helps get you there. We were loyal customers of Plated for almost 5 years until they suspended their mail order business in November...my whole family was so disappointed! We took the recommendation from the Plated website to try Sun Basket (after investigating multiple other disappointing options)...I did not expect to like it near as much as Plated, but after 3 shipments we are BLOWN away and had no idea what we were missing. The ‘extras’ are soooo much more...the snacks, breakfast granola offerings, even soup cups are phenomenal...my husband and I crave the burnt almond brittle! My 10 yr old son loves the miso broth cups...I had no idea Sun Basket offered so very much, even beef & poultry options beyond our weekly recipes. And everything is packaged expertly yet simply, down to individual eggs. I see our family being loyal customers for many years to come.

I don’t care how over the top this is, but I love Sun Basket. It has completely changed my life. I don’t have to go to the grocery store as much, I don’t have to worry about whether somethings fits with my diet restrictions, and I don’t have to wonder what am I going to have for dinner! My husband and I actually make it together, allowing us to decompress together without just jumping in front of the TV. They’re easy to make, the directions are simple to follow, AND out of the month of I’ve been ordering (3x a week), there’s only been 1 thing I haven’t cared for! My family loves it and are trying foods they normally wouldn’t, simply because It Is SO good! I don’t have the time nor the energy to make the meals we’ve been getting, and I sure couldn’t afford what the grocery store would charge me for all of it. Every good thing that could be said about Sun Basket, I’m saying! LOVE!

I started subscribing to Sun Basket after I saw them listed on the Williams Sonoma site. I had tried a couple of meal subscription services before but was disappointed in the not so fresh condition (and no organic options) that arrived.

I babysit my Grandchildren and take them on field trips all over L.A. and Orange Counties. When I get home I’m able to fix my hard working husband a nice clean meal (the pre-prepped are great when you’re tired).

Now with COVID19 I’m really thankful for Sun Basket. My husband and I are both high risk seniors, so not having to go out grocery shopping is really a blessing. There are many other items Sun Basket sells besides the meals. You can buy good quality meat, produce, soups, juices, breakfast items and more.

I’ve decided after Easter to start on Dr. Sara Gottfried’s IF-KETO PROTOCOL so I’ve just switched from the CLEAN AND LEAN to the PALEO meal plan. It looks like it will work well with Dr. Sara’s Cyclic Keto protocol.

I just had my most recent shipment go missing after Sun Basket shipped it. I just followed the links for customer service and they got right back with me. Agent Jorge investigated the shipment and then promptly issued a credit.

I switched to Sunbasket after repeated late or missing meal deliveries from Freshly and I am very pleased with the service. More of the meals are winners than losers, there seems to be more variety and most importantly, they arrive on the day promised and are delivered before I get home from work at 5pm whereas Freshly wouldn’t show up until after 10pm. My only wish is that it would be easier to reorder the same meal from a previous delivery. The system is set up to completely change all your meals each delivery (which in a way helped me try new things that I usually hesitate to) but when I find something I really like, I wish I could “keep” it in my queue with less effort. As it is currently, the apps design around building each delivery feels tedious. Other than that, I’m a very happy customer.

We receive a basket (or two) each week. With the basics already stocked up in our house, we haven’t had to grocery shop much at all during shelter-in-place. We share a meal between three of us, and while sometimes it’s a smaller portion (intended for two), we are able to have a fresh cooked meal with lots of variety with fresh vegetables and organic meats. I often freeze the meats and pull them out the day before. We eat the meals with beans first because they won’t last (they can also be put in the freezer). We even moved house in the middle of all of this, and SunBasket was delivered to our new home without missing a week. What I enjoy most is being able to work from home and still have a home-cooked meal each night (and often a lunch or two!)

First order (and last order). Everything tracking fine until nearly 7:00pm. Notified we won’t get our delivery, and should by end of next day. In tracking package, saw it was out for delivery and “in transit” at 8:03am this morning from a location less than 10 miles from our house. I sent a note via SunbasketMealDelivery wondering about the “freshness” since the package was in a truck all day, will be in a truck or warehouse all evening, and then on a truck for much of the day tomorrow. Received a BOT reply in seconds saying my Support Case was “Closed” and referring me to the “enhanced service center” which would allow me to look at self-service, ask an expert or chat. The chat was fully automated. Said it was sorry I didn’t receive my delivery, they’ll give me “free delivery” on my next order and let them know if I don’t get it tomorrow.
No need... I don’t trust chicken being left that long. There are too many other options. This one doesn’t need to be on our list anymore.

I love to cook. Sun basket gives me an opportunity to try out foods I’ve never had before. It also shows me different ways to cook foods. I especially like that I can order meats separate from the meals. I also like that I can order more meals when I have visitors. I initially used it to help me when I was working 50+ hours a week. Since I retired I have continued to use it to try out new foods. I love that everything comes bagged together. It takes a lot of the hassle out of prepping. I also like to grab a bag, put in the meat, and take it with me when I am going somewhere for the weekend. I no longer have to pack all of my ingredients. What a time saver. I noticed that my parents received the ready made meals when my mother was recovering from a serious injury. What a clever idea!!

Great concept overall; easy step-by-step meal prep and delicious meals to choose from. But there needs to be more delivery options provided, whether delivery offered in evening hours and/or with weekend delivery options!

Giving an overall 3 star rating...while I love all the recipes I’ve had since starting in May 2018 and choices offered with options to upgrade protein selection per meal, there needs to be more delivery options overall!! The first few weeks I started with SunBasket I encountered issues with the delivery: order was never delivered though charged (but credited); then the following order was delivered late, arriving on wrong day. And still ongoing issues, around the time of day the food order is delivered.

Despite the ice and installation that comes in the box to keep the food cool...that’s all it does. It’s delivered mid-morning (1030am-1130am) and then just sits outside baking in the summer heat until I arrive home from work, which is anywhere around 530pm to 630pm.

Yesterday, for example, by the time I got home from work and brought in the food package, the one ice bag included inside had already melted (not solid) and was just a little bit above room temperature...which left my upgraded protein Alaskan Halibut fish (along w other meats & produce) were also at room temperature and no longer frozen; thusly spoiled....

I was offered a 60% discount for my first order. It was “accidentally” not applied to order. Was offered the same discount to stay on for a second order. That was also done incorrectly. I haven’t even had one box delivered yet and have been billed for two orders at incorrect prices. Already asked to cancel subscription. Regardless of how good the food may be, they can’t even get their billing straight. I’m scared to see what awaits me.

7/26 update...So they still haven’t fixed the billing issue, but I did make my first meal yesterday. Everything was packed nicely. The instructions were clear. And the food (at least the first dish) was fantastic. With all the veggies, I thought my 5yo wouldn’t eat it but she proudly ate every single bite. Hopefully they can sort out their billing issues because their meals seem to be rather pleasant and healthy.

This is more a review of the service, not SunbasketMealDelivery itself. Truth be told, I mostly used the website, which is perfectly fine. The selection of meals looks really good on paper, especially for various dietary needs. However, they were hit or miss, and none of them were amazing. The misses were bland and felt like they could easily be replicated with a jar of sauce and some produce/meat. I would definitely say it is not worth the sticker price. The delivery experience is where it really falls apart. They promise Monday deliveries, but we only received 1 of our 4 deliveries on Monday. 1 was on a Tuesday, 1 on Wednesday, and 1 on Thursday. This was very frustrating and made it impossible to plan fresh meals for the week. Customer service was not apologetic at all for the late deliveries, except the Thursday one. At first they offered free shipping on my next order, and then refunded the whole order. But I immediately cancelled. It’s just too inconsistent to count on.

Yesterday was the delivery date of my first order. When I signed up for this meal service, they had me choose three preferred days for the food to arrive. I selected Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and then placed my order.

When I checked on my order a couple days later, Monday was listed as my delivery date. I tried to change this, but apparently Monday was the only day available. Why ask for my preference then?

The delivery window was 8AM-9PM. I live in an apartment complex and specifically requested for my food to be left at my front door because I have a newborn and it’s virtually impossible for me to carry a 20 lb box with a baby back from the leasing offices.
I waited at home ALL DAY LONG. After no package at 5PM, I started monitoring the OnTrac shipping estimate.
6PM: in transit.
7PM: in transit.
8PM: in transit.
9PM: in transit.
10PM: in transit.
11PM: in transit.

How can it still be in transit two hours past the end of the delivery window?

Needless to say, my package of food never arrived. I gave up and went to bed. When I woke up this morning, I checked the status again. Lo and behold—“delivered at 6PM” to my front door! So someone updated the status at least 5 hours after this supposed delivery took place? Doesn’t that seem a bit odd?

I will not try them again, as there are plenty of other meal services that will actually provide me with the food I have ordered!!! I feel like I was scammed.
