What I like about Sunbasket.. and don’t

First the like, lower sodium than others, a menu booklet of all the weeks foods. But they are changing that to cards.
What I don’t like.. I tried one delivery and skipped the following week. I skipped delivery on time and I have proof of the email. I was shocked to see as soon as I cancelled ( seconds) they automatically took money out of my account and sent a delivery I did not pick, I skipped it! I skipped for a few reasons..so I knew I skipped on on their time table before charges are made. I wanted to see how the first delivery was and the next food selection did not look appetizing at all. So I had to make the next one dinners ( they sent and picked) my way because it was awful, and make sure you know how to add spices!! My first week we paid a lot for a scallop dish and it tasted delicious but it was so small it was disappointing. Just scallops and rice for 20. 00 dollars per person. And following week you have to pay for shipping for a meal that were cancelled. I tried talking to various people but they hide behind texts and emails to say, “I’m sorry our records show you did not cancel at the time given.” They literally steal money! Do not use this service! They will take money when you cancel instantly! And they don’t look into records or they don’t keep them. Food is not that good for the money you pay either. Based on reviews I am not the only one they have done this to! Taking this to BBB. This has to stop!

Terrible Meat Quality, Horrible Customer Service

My husband and I had been receiving Sunbasket for a few months after our baby was born to make life a little easier on us during the pandemic. We liked it back then. We moved at the end of the year and paused our service for a few months, and just started it up again. Big mistake. We upgraded our meals to organic meat, as we always did, but when we ate it we realized it was far from organic. We aren’t sure what it was, really. The ground turkey had so many mystery hard chunks and pieces of gristle that it was inedible. My toddler (who has never gotten sick or vomited before) vomited after his third bite because it was just that disgusting. My husband was nauseous for hours afterward. Needless to say, we threw out our meal that night and I had to whip up something else for my son to eat. We also threw out the other meals we had for the rest of the week because the chicken breasts leaked juice all over the refrigerator and we no longer trust their meat. A week later and I am still getting canned responses from customer service about getting a refund - but they managed to cancel my service. Honestly, we used to get Green Chef and never had issues with the food quality so we will probably start their service back up again.

I just received my first order from Sun Basket. They substituted nonorganic cauliflower without prior notice. I would have ordered a different meal had I known. The cauliflower was also old with a pink haze on it. Sun Basket is one of the more expensive meal kits and to receive rotten food is unacceptable. I wrote to Sun Basket and after 2 days I get a response “Hi I am Aniki. I will pass your concerns along”. I then get another email to rate how helpful Aniki was. All Aniki did was kick the can down the road. There wasn’t even an apology that I was unhappy with rotten food. There was no other response despite multiple emails to complain about rotting food.

The other meal was just ok (shrimp and orzo) Luckily, I can cook. The sauce was not balanced and I needed to fix it. This is not a meal kit if you are a novice. They also don’t send written instructions like other meal kit companies do. You have to use the app. If my phone goes to sleep I have to reopen the app and find the recipe again. It was annoying for my husband who doesn’t cook and needed to follow the directions.

It is too bad this is such poor quality food. It sounds good and the meals look interesting. Sun Basket needs work. It is just a waste of money as it is currently.
