Does not work

Doesn't work. Wasted $. And wasted my time.

Crashes when I open Panels

Love the idea of this! Please fix.
It crashes upon opening a Windows panel (haven’t tried the Mac panels yet).

Good, Except Stability

I would love ActionPad, if I could ever get to using it. Trying to make any changes to my panels is the longest, most frustrating process I’ve ever had with an app. There are bugs that will randomly change the text in buttons that you’re not editing, icons disappear randomly, multiple buttons will randomly be created and won’t go away until you quit ActionPad . There seems to be no function to undo, which means each time a bug happens (every 10 seconds), you have to quit ActionPad and go back in to do anything. If you use a pre-made panel, then ActionPad is awesome! If you are like me and want to customize your shortcuts, have fun...

Major bugs

I spent hours setting up a custom panel for an editing package. Multiple crashes during the creation. Once done the panel scaled and I lost part of it off the screen.

I will have to completely redo this again which is a major disappointment and a waste of time. At this point I am regretting the purchase.

If This Would send MIDI Messages Too, A Huge Market Would Be Captured

Very promising! I’ve lowered my score a bit, because the version loses connection when this app is arranged in the background. Have to reconnect every time I move it back to the foreground. Makes it very tedious to use, as I need to move apps ‘fore and back’ quite a bit.
Also, if you create a layout with many pads, and then decide to increase or decrease the columns in the layout, the pads are not properly redistributed, and many pads can be instantly lost. There is also no duplicate, copy/paste function for pad settings, or ability to edit multiple pads. Strange oversight that I hop is added. If these issues are addressed, I will certainly revise my review )

Also, If This Would send MIDI Messages Too, A Huge Market Would Be Captured. It would be massive for use with DAW’s Pretty Please!

Works, but can’t delete old panels?

Works great, but how do you delete a panel? 5 stars if I could get rid of old panels.

I was a Quadro app user...

Thanks for this. From the bottom of my heart. Seriously. Don’t abandoned this development please. Keep going

Great potential, needs some fixes/tweaks

I just installed ActionPad a little bit ago today and, so far, I've found a couple of issues, but it's manageable.

First, installing the desktop client wasn't as smooth/easy as it should have been. The shortcut is to not trust the link on the website or ActionPad launcher for getting to the Java Developer Kit (JDK) - just search for it and download it on your own. Do that and ActionPad should work fine. The JDK is different from the standard Java Runtime Environment (JRE) that most people will have installed already. ActionPad currently needs JDK.

Next, for whatever reason, on my iPhone, I can't change the background of the panel I'm currently working on. I adjust the color sliders or select a default or choose an image and then go through the steps to apply and save it and it goes back to the default blue, a shade I don't much care for.

I'm not sure what's going on, but neither my iPad nor my iPhone would automatically connect to the server app on my Mac on my home network. I had to manually enter the info. And, that's a pain because I like to go to coffee shops or the library to work and I want a solution that will automatically adapt and not require me to manually adjust the connection at every location or even at home if my laptop is assigned a new address on the network.

It would be nice if there were a copy/paste option for buttons or some other way, such as being able to manually enter the size by digits rather than dragging sides or corners, to maintain consistency in button sizes. If they're a little off it still functions just fine, but I like such things to be uniform and not sloppy looking at all. Right now, it's a tad sloppy as it's hard for me to get the small buttons I'm making to be uniform using the touchscreen.

That being said, I was looking at buying an X-Keys programmable hardware keypad for up to about $250 and, really, this might save me from needing it - and it's mega cheap at 99¢. I love physical buttons, but I also love being able to multipurpose devices and otherwise slim down a bit on what I need to travel with. An assignment out of town means a ton of camera gear, laptop, external hard disks, USB hub, Wacom tablet, iPad, iPhone, cables, chargers, batteries, lighting gear, etc. A specialty hardware keypad would be great, including for being able to use it without having to look at it as much, but it doesn't travel nearly so well as ActionPad version.

Haven't tried it on my iPad yet for expanded options with the larger screen, but my iPhone is better for one of the tasks I'm doing anyway. I'm using an application called Photo Mechanic to clean up my photo catalog and needed a fast, easy, and comfortable method for assigning color tags, ratings, going forward and back, selecting multiple images, etc., and, so far, this looks like it could be great for that. The comfort is a huge factor as I'm working through 150,000 images and, in the future, will want to be able to quickly flip through a few thousand images at a time from something like a wedding shoot. On my iPad I hope to set up shortcuts for editing in Capture One Pro 10, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Keyboard shortcuts are great, but they still aren't always ideal. Having dedicated buttons for functions is so much better, and I'm used to that functionality a bit with my Wacom tablet already. And, this lets me free up functions on the Wacom to be more specific to things like localized adjustments, which is what the Wacom just blazes through.

I also tried to set up a community account, but it didn't work. It just sort of kept trying without getting anywhere, so I canceled the attempt and tried again. Rebooted ActionPad and tried again. No go.

I'm hoping the developer will do some updates on ActionPad and extended community soon to make it work a little more smoothly and be a bit more refined overall. In the meantime, I'm thankful for what it is and look forward to incorporating it into my workflow. And, I'm certainly going to tell some other people about it. All the other similar sort of apps I found I didn't even bother installing because the most recent updates were way too long ago. I want an app that, hopefully, will remain current and not get abandoned by the developer.

My life just got better

There are lots of reasons why you might want an external keypad with programmable controls for your Mac. In my case it is all about streamlining workflow. There are nice hardware options out there, but they don't come cheap.

Instead, for two bucks and a free OSX server download my iPad and iPhone are now more convenient and powerful external control units than a spiffy piece of hardware. Fortunately I ran across ActivePad before hitting send on the $250 purchase I almost made.

Why four stars instead of 5? Simple. Everything about this has to be customized, and as far as I can tell there is no documentation. If you don't have some computer savvy, or know someone who does, you might find the experience frustrating.

It took a lot of persistence on my part to figure out how to make it work with the application I most needed to control. I came close to throwing in the towel. I'm glad I didn't.

Very handy app

I use this in everything gaming, Sony camera control, photo editing, car road tuning…etc. Just a fantastic app! I would like some more advanced functionality though! Such as more button feedback options and perhaps ways to animate. Even simple things like a countdown timer would be awesome.

Suprised they updated after so long

ActionPad has a lot of potential, I personally use it as an alternative to Wacom ExpressKey remote for Photoshop. Keep us updated.

It was hard to setup but so cool when it worked

Got this because I got tired of typing chat commands in games. Also I set it up to do dice rolls only in my specific discord channel for rpg games. The photoshop tools are also perfect. It was worth every penny for this graphic designer and nerd.

Essential to my workflow

I use Action Pad with my recording DAWs, and I can’t imagine working without it. I have massive screens with dozens of buttons to work on my iPad Pro, or simplified versions to run on my iPhone. Excellent app!

Having the crashing problem? Here’s the fix.

The only panel that crashes upon opening is the most recent panel. If you create another panel that panel won’t crash upon startup.

Great app, with great support

I have used many launchpad and remote app for mac and by far it’s the most customizable app. I wish i can determine the size of buttons by percentage instead of fixed pixels to make it compatible for both my iPad and iPhone. But it’s my go to shortcut app for my adobe products and Anki.
Also the support team of app is amazing and i have got reply within hours.

Great app with great support

I wanted to write a somewhat complex macro for Final Cut Pro X. Initially, this app Server (the Mac component) didn’t perform as expected. I dropped the developer an email. He was back to me in 15 minutes with fix already uploaded on his website. A download, a reinstall and a reboot after granting this app Server access to Accessibility ... it all worked perfectly. Hey, bugs happen. But customer service like this is hard to beat! And for $1.99, it’s a steal!

Must Have for Win/Mac Power Users ❤️

ActionPad works as intended is incredibly easy to set up and is reliable. The set up is very straightforward so it’s easy for new customers and it has enough powerful tools set up within that it is still functional and attractive for power users as a video editor, I have it launching applications and going straight to folders via window shortcuts, but the ability to choose a file to run means if you have any capability in scripting ActionPad can essentially do anything on your device. 6/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Perfect for creating a remote panel for OBS

I really like this product. In about two hours I created a really sweet control pad for one of the shows we produce using Open Broadcast Studio. It’s very straightforward and the ability to create complex keystrings with timing is invaluable.
