Channels for HDHomeRun! Reviews

(Update: my firmware was more than 10 years old, and their support was able to instruct me on how to upgrade it. I was able to scan for, and find this app. Some came in as “SD” even though they’re all HD, but I made them all favorites and just use the favorites section now.)

I’ve been trying to use this app for months now, with no success. I have a HD HomeRun Dual connected to my WiFi router and can watch shows using a program on my Mac laptop throughout the house. this app could never find my HDHomeRun, and now Channels doesn’t even load. I open it and only get a blank screen. I deleted Channels and reinstalled it and got a splash screen of new features, but when I closed that I got the same blank screen. I’d love to watch live TV on my phone thought the house, but haven’t for a long while.

I bought the iOS and Apple TV versions and it works great but I am disappointed in the closed captioning. Initially I thought it was supported when muted only. My wife being deaf needs CC and I being hearing enjoy the audio. I finally figured out swipe down and then right to switch sap or CC. It would be nice to make this a more prominent feature or add an always on setting. Or simply follow the defaults on the device itself.

I had some problems with the settings it will not let me get to the live TV so I need you to make that easier for me it won’t let me go anywhere else and then that keeps on saying front load speaker left and it’s getting kind annoying so I would like you to help me and make it easier for me because it’s very hard and it might be hard for other people I know I gave you five stars but they might give you four or three or something else but all I’m saying is just make it easier so everyone else can enjoy it thank you

So I have had HDHomerun for a few years now and recently the ipad version stopped working, I would get sound and no video. I tried contacting them several times and haven’t heard back from them. For what ever reason I did a search and this program came up. I downloaded it and instantly it worked. It’s laid out better than the HDHomerun software and so far hasn’t had any issues. I am now back to my cable cutting ways. Take that direct tv!

Compared to the native HDHOMERUN app this is miles ahead. Having a choice between the show thumbnails and a traditional grid guide is awesome. Though DRM this app apparently have problems it’s not that big a deal to me as I can access those this app using their own app. Connecting to my really old HDPrime has been flawless and the picture quality is perfect. Being able to browse the channel guide and change the channel via the iPad app is just icing on the cake!

With two HD Home Runs and this app I’m getting more than ever out of my Verizon subscription. I have the equivalent of four set top boxes plus access on all of our phones and iPads for a fraction of the cost of what it would be through Verizon. The lack of DRM support is worth noting, but it only effects Fox this app and the Big Ten Network for me and there are dedicated apps that can supply those as well. No hesitations and no going back for me.

This is a great app and I haven’t had any real problems with it, but it occasionally feels awkward to use because it doesn’t follow certain iOS idioms. For instance, swiping down on a video should return me to the guide; instead I have to tap the video and hit “done”. Not a huge deal, but Channels would be perfect if small things like this were addressed.

Works great on IOS 11 on iPad Pro 9.7. I use it when I’m out of my home via OpenVPN back to my home network. I’m amazed on how well it works when away from home. My home internet is 75Mbps down and 10Mbps up. I use low deinterlace when off network and it still gives me good quality. Guide works well too. Just great. Better than InstaTV in my opinion.

so nice to dump the dish and cut the cord. I wish there was a way to store the recordings in the cloud, rather than on my PC. Sometimes the PC has to update and we booth, when it does the this app application does not automatically turn on. it is very usable with voiceover, the screen reader in Reader for apple products.

Love using Channels with an HDHomerun Prime, so I don’t have a million boxes under my TV. I just have an Apple TV, and it’s awesome. Channels is easy to navigate and add favorites! It’s been problem free for me. An upgrade that would allow me to ask Siri to change to MSNBC, Altitude, etc. would be nice, but that gives me something to look forward to! Buy it! :)

this app app is an excellent way to bring over the air programming from your HDHomerun device to your Apple TV box.

this app automatically finds an HDHomerun device you’ve set up and is ready to go as soon as you launch it.

Interface is clean and easy to use. this app’ Guide populates the channel listing on a timeline showing what’s on for each channel. Clean and easy to read.

Exploring the help screen (from the Settings menu) gives you quick access to all its capabilities on the Apple TV remote.

To get this clean, easy to use interface for watching your over the air this app makes it well worth the cost!

Channels is great and exceeds all expectations. PiP has been missing since I started with the iOS 15 beta and continues with the release of 15.1. I’ve tried restarting & toggling the show PiP button setting a lot. Hope it’s a quick easy fix. thanks! Great app!

1. Allow for downloads of episodes.
2. Allow for background playback - pip is close to that but not it.
2a allow for audio playback. Some shows I only just want to listen to them, not watch.

Using your HDHOMERUN a TV antenna and AppleTV or iPad or iPhone you can watch over the air television. Their apps “just work”. Does that mean no new features? No way! The developers are actively adding features and they are very responsive if you need anything. I can not recommend this product enough!!

I’ve tested every cord cutting software for 10 years, and this is my go to solution and the one where my wife and kids can use it. It works well on other platforms also, but I think it is best on Apple.

Loved Apple TV version so much, had to get the iOS version as well. I’ve had zero issues using it with my HDHomerun Connect Quatro tuner. Works better than Plex and interface is so much better than the HDHomerun app. I hope someday Channels is available for XB1 as well.

Works with HDHomeRun. You must use the “experimental” audio setting if you want audio to go to a HomePod on Apple TV which was the reason I spent $25 for Channels. As long as that doesn’t change, I’m happy.

Update: First off, the iOS version on an iPad Pro works pretty well. It seems not to be possible to send the audio to other sources, for example, HomePod, but otherwise I’m pretty happy.

The Apple TV version on the other hand is a disaster. Specifically, routing audio to HomePod drops in and out and sometimes switches back to its original source randomly. Very annoying.

In summary, the developer hasn’t spent the effort to get all versions of Channels to work the same and for $25, I expect more.

I thought by downloading this I can see live tv right away. Instead was prompted with scan for available networks, did scan and got nothing. Compared to others this is the worst, nothing found, full 200mbps and nothing, downloaded other app and works. Channels is a no good waste of time App as a new first time user, the bad experience was quick at startup, it goes to setting automaticaly, premium visual set to on automaticaly, sad sad sad no live tv as advertised.

Channels is stable and great! Just wish I could bring it into a small video window like over video apps and keep using my phone. That would be 5 stars!

Everything works great as advertised. Very cool to use. Only drawback is that for Apple devices they charge you a one time fee. For all other platforms Channels is free. Not a big deal in the end. Well worth it. Works great on newer iPad and iPhone XR as well.

I think Channels has a slightly better picture than the HomeRun app. It has a far better interface with the grid view. It would be great if they added a mute button and a brightness slider.

Have this running on my Apple TV and it’s working like a champ. Had a question during the configuration so I emailed tech support and they got back to me within 15 minutes...on a Sunday! Very impressed with the software and the company.
