Not ready for city biking

There is promise with this device. With future firmware upgrades, functionality is likely to be added that will make this device usable for the common city rider. Today I would not recommend it to other than early adopters. I have used it for about 150 miles of biking in central London. City streets are far too complex to rely on navigation from this device. I am continually riding past my turns. I don’t know if that due to a slow processor, poor GPS signal in city canyons, missing cues on the interface, or a combination of those. You have to keep going back and relying on a map app on your phone, which negates having the device in the first place. If I have to keep relying on my phone, there is no real use for the device. I look forward to trying it on country roads where there is less complexity, and the device should be able to cope.

I am also hoping for better ability to map quiet routes in cities and routes that avoid crowded walkways like canal tow paths in London. BeelineBikeNavigation takes me on routes that are a little scary at times. Perhaps a teaming with CycleStreets would help.

Love the new look and feel

I have loved using the unit since I got it, but this update makes planning a trip much better. Just the ETA and route time make a HUGE difference for me. I am always planning motorbike rides and was having to leave BeelineBikeNavigation and go to Apple Maps to see an approx total time before. Doing it in BeelineBikeNavigation is so much easier.

Nifty Gadget, Lacking Features

The device is great, but nearly all interaction with BeelineBikeNavigation needs to happen through the phone to the point that you may as well mount your phone to your handlebars. You can’t even select a destination (or change destinations) through the Beeline device.
BeelineBikeNavigation and device also completely lack a “record ride” feature - something myself and many others would use.
It’s a shame such an expensive device can’t function more on its own.

Black numbered map markers

Amending my comment. Discovered a bug where the distance markers are being added incorrectly. Cofounder reaches out to me to let me know they are fixing it in the next version. Great app and really love the moto device.

Wish had more predone route selection

Great app used it today without the GPS unit to try and see how I liked it before I ordered the beeline. I wish that BeelineBikeNavigation had some functionality other than “cycling, walking, driving” and had something like avoid highways or curvier routes. other than that BeelineBikeNavigation is sharp and probably going to order a beeline unit.

Performance Issues

Great app. Great concept. Works seamlessly with Strava and I love the simplicity for route planning. The issue lies in how the all performs. It’s constantly stuttering and slow on even the most simple functions. This is with a newer model phone so it seems it just has problems. Otherwise great app, not unusable.

App is lacking with GPX Integration

I’ve been using apps for GPX file sharing after route planning and this one seems to be very weak in that arena. Importing a GPX file shows every single via point as well as waypoint. Causes routes to not be able to switch to route mode for navigation due to exceeding the 25 waypoint limit. This will need to be fixed for any real GPX integration capabilities.

Good app, needs a freestyle mode

I like BeelineBikeNavigation a lot, and the Beeline device is AWESOME! That said, I think it could do with tracking your distance covered in a freestyle mode (if this is a thing, I'm totally unaware of it). Definitely a useful app for cyclists!

Beautiful and functional app

Well designed and fun app. Paired with Beeline’s smart compass, it works wonderfully as a way to navigate through urban areas on a bike. Uses current google maps data.

Great app and product

I am a Kickstarter backer for the beeline and am pretty happy with it and the companion app. Would be better if BeelineBikeNavigation fed biking data to the Apple Health App for central data visualization.

Decent industrial design; nav is useless

BeelineBikeNavigation is okay. Just looks like window dressing on Google Maps. For Beeline Moto users it needs more options than ‘Avoid freeways’. We need the fastest route to the twisties, then go the fun way. The Beeline Moto device itself is useless. As others have mentioned, the display frequently flips upside and points behind you.

Missed the Mark

The good: Creating a custom route is easy and intuitive. BeelineBikeNavigation has a clean and polished appearance. It’s incredibly easy to import and export GPX files. The bad: No option to landscape the map view. No voice guidance.

Great device, great app

Just got my beeline and it is perfect! Love it!

Need voice assist

Without voice commands, I need to run another map app on a motorcycle. Directions from device are confusing without it.

More App functionality needed.

I ride a motorcycle a lot in bicycle mode because I don’t want to ride highways but it takes me down bicycle trails and dead ends. I love the hardware though!

Broken

Wanted to try this out before I go further and whenever I click on Route Mode it gives me an unexpected error. Tried everything I could think of but seems to be broken.

By

Nifty

Nifty piece of tech though there’s some kinks with Mac from time to time. Rerouting tends to b the issue

Glitchy and unclear

My beeline moto constantly flips upside-down and it is very unclear where you are actually supposed to turn.

Looks good, but missing crucial features

BeelineBikeNavigation looks good on the surface. The UI is well designed and easy to navigate. However, there are two features missing from BeelineBikeNavigation that absolutely need to be included before Beeline can be useful:

1) New destination: Once I begin a ride and reach my destination, I usually want to input a new destination and continue my ride. To my dismay, Beeline doesn’t permit the modification of my route in any way once I’ve begun the ride. Want to add a new via point? Nope, can’t do that. Want to change your destination? Nope, can’t do that either. Want to add a new destination? Nooope, you’ll have to completely end your current ride and begins new ride. This situation means I cannot use Beeline to navigate to a destination and then back home while sharing a single finished ride recording. Rather, Beeline forces me to save at least two different rides, one for each destination. If I change my destination at any point durning the ride, suddenly I have more than two ride recordings. This makes sharing my rides on services like Rever or Strava impossible. This missing feature alone is reason for me to never use Beeline again.

2) No exporting rides: Want to export your ride as a GPX file? Sorry, you can’t do that. Beeline doesn’t support the exporting of ride files. If you’re creative, you can link Beeline to Strava, upload your rides to Strava, and then us Strava’s GPX file export option, but that’s a super obtuse way to obtain GPX files. Beeline really needs to let its users control their own data. Keeping my rides locked up and unusable is mega lame.

The last item I’ll note is that I hate not being able to see the speed limit when I ride. Both the Scenic app and Waze show me the speed limit while using their apps. Beeline does not. This missing piece of information makes a big difference to my confidence on the road.

Latest version crashing on startup as of Jan 1 2021

Happy new year, first ride of the year and beeline won’t load. I see my rides, then it dies. Going to delete and reinstall

Other than this glitch, I like BeelineBikeNavigation and the beeline device, but this glitch revealed that the support for BeelineBikeNavigation appears to have gone away...no more zendesk. So 4/5

Update to add that the crashing happens consistently when paired with my beeline device. When unpaired or when Bluetooth off, BeelineBikeNavigation does not crash.
